Popular Post Bya-Kuchiki
Because similar to the PlayStation Vita, Sony treats those Systems as legacy products. Remember they wanted to pull the plug last year. I'm also afraid of Sony touching the Store ever again?
maxfighter23___
okay its sad though because they are good consoles also its not because that there is a ps5 that they trow away the older consoles that is how i see it because i have been playing on ps3 for a while ago but stil regret to not playing on it i like old consoles its just a shame though because those games that are on ps3 are great aswell i dont know about vita since i dont have one
Popular Post ResiGamer_28
Sony don't give a fuck about legacy consoles despite their claims. This is unlike Microsoft who still heavily support xbox 360 with regular sales and patch updates. Sony banned updates on ps3/vita and banned sales on ps3/vita content. All Sony care about is getting people to subscribe to their Ps Plus Premium scam, under the lie of legacy content, which they are not even updating now.
Popular Post Aferaos
Sony only care about how make money or more money, as result we will receive more and more remakes like Tlou 1. If this exclusives or remaster fails, they will search another way for make money. They dont want support older consoles, but at same time they refuse to community adopt these. Probaly next year they will try close the stores again.
Popular Post Lonemankane
It is easy. Sony just wants people to get a Piss station 5 and sign up for the ps plus bs pre take my wallet and soul deal because in their eyes. Why would you want to play something as old as God of war ascension or Killzone 2 or even little big planet 1 or 2 when you can play the new shitty games and a crappy emulated ones of classic ps1 games or ps2 games. To me Sony has dropped the ball and it started just after they had gotten the big dick ego bs that happen during the first 2 or so years of ps4s life
Popular Post DrBloodmoney
The title says "PS4" but seems like you mean "PS3"? The answer is: the only people buying game on those systems are a small hardcore, and they will buy the games, whether they are full price or not... so why bother discounting them? Sales are there to drive people to the store, and to make sales they otherwise wouldn't. Sony doesn't WANT people using those stores - they wanted to shut them down. They only reason they are still there at all, is to avoid the backlash the store closure announcement drew. It's a pity, but it is what it is - sales will always be there to drive volumetric business, and there isn't the traffic on those systems to make that worth while. In their view, I'd imagine it's a case of... "Okay, we'll keep those stores up there in some capacity, so y'all crazy folks shut the hell up... but if you're gonna to buy something on there, we're gonna make you work for it by making the process as awkward as humanly possible... and you're sure as fuck gonna be paying the full whack for 'em!" ?
Dreamer5xH
I think you meant to type ps3 in the title. Anyway these days are long forgotten by sony. So the only thing you need to expect from older gens is more news about shutdowns delisting or removal
Alayaes
Any game you want for it you can probably get on eBay for about $5 anyway if you're looking for a deal. Sony isn't about to be competitive in their pricing with a classic console. The same will eventually happen with the PS4.

Popular Post crowizard
It doesnt bother me much since I buy ps3 games from online local sites in Croatia. The only thing that bothers is that I complete every game to 100% and not all games have special or GOTY editions so i have to buy DLC for full price. That was the thing with Metal Gear Rising a month ago. They had pretty expensive DLC for that short stories and I could not find disc with all additional content in my country.

RoastedPeanut
I went overboard with purchases from multiple region store fronts when they first announced they we're shutting down the store. In the end it turns out I jumped the gun, but no regrets. As much as I'd like sales for the PS3 and Vita, those are two systems I love so I don't mind paying full price.

Komrade_Dusty
Sony wants the PS3 to ride off into the sunset. They were going to close the store entirely but there was backlash. So many games have been removed from the store that at this point I just buy physical copies of games for the PS3.
The Alchemist
A few reasons I imagine, the main one being that the amount of people using the PS3 store in 2022 is probably miniscule, so it isn't in Sony's interest to keep it up to date or to host new sales on it because financially there isn't anything in it for them. After all, they tried to kill the PS3 store entirely, so we're lucky we have a PS3 store at all. Besides, you can pick up physical PS3 games for next to nothing these days so that's a viable option. While it would be nice if old platforms, store fronts and servers could exist in perpetuity, it isn't realistic for a multitude of reasons.
Lordguwa
i would much rather pay full price to keep the store alive. i spent close to 300$ saving game titles when the shutdown almost happened. have about 3 more platinum games to buy . then it's picking out indie titles that have no plat or making europe account to get games from that. I don’t like the PS3 Store at all. Sony is never going to fix it at this point. Horrendously slow interface. Store chugs along and often times out. That’s not to mention they quit accepting credit and debit cards, so you have to pay with PSN credit from PSN gift cards. Probably better for me to play some of these old PSN games on Steam.
Popular Post janzor88
Thread full of anger and misinformation. As a former Sony employee said long ago, the lacking support for the Vita and PS3 is primarily because of security reasons. Both consoles are compromised from jailbreaks, and the legacy stores have too many attack vectors. Credit card companies have to comply with EU law and use 3-D Secure V2 protocol, and many other parts of the world have applied it as well. It just doesn't make sense wasting resources to rebuild everything on such legacy systems, when the potential income would be minimal. Economically and technology-wise it just makes more sense for them to devote their time on PS4 and PS5, as both run on x86 architecture and benefit from many of the same improvements made.

This, non-developers will never understand how tricky it is to keep legacy code working and safe. When I point that, people always say "but they can rebuild/fix the old stuff". No, it is not profitable anymore, why would Sony completely revamp the legacy systems when 99% of the PSN wouldn't give a damn about it? Developer time is expensive and precious, it's always better to focus on newer generations and products. Everything has a cycle (and trust me, I'd love to still have full PS3 support and sales, I probably care more for PS3 than to PS5) and we must understand PS3 cycle is done years ago. PS3 started bad from its conception, it's a heavily ultra-specific and parallelized machine, where the 360 was more straightforward to work with. The result is that, peak PS3 is better than peak 360 in terms of performance, but the PS3 architecture is a mess and I doubt we'll ever have a backwards compatibility as good as the 360 one on newer generations (where 70% of the console runs and the rest of the 30% are basically dead games with problems with licensing mostly, like old sports games).
