Popular Post Viper
#264 Shenmue HD Full Cabinet Never played this back on the Dreamcast, and it definitely feels like a game that belongs in that time. I mean it was okay, a pioneer of of the genre and for things that have been expanded on and perfected today, apparently this is the game that popularized QTE's. But by today's standards there isn't much here. I ended up using a Walkthrough to get through it at a more organized pace, which I'm glad because there's thing that happen that I know I'd miss if it wasn't for trophies making it so that I needed that organization. A lot of this game was sitting here for 15-20 minutes doing nothing while you wait for the clock to hit a certain time, which was pretty boring. The combat in the might be better if there was some kind of encouragement to actually learn and practice your moves...but the game never really tells you to do that, so I was like half way through before I even found the move list...before that I was just spamming the buttons in hopes that'd I win. Overall, I didn't have much trouble with anything...even the trophies people everywhere were having trouble with, like the forklift race...I got it in 3 tries. The first try was just learning how it controls, the second I got rammed hard into a wall and couldn't catch up, then the third I dominated, and didn't have any trouble winning the days after that. The 70 Man battle was simple except for the last guy, but I got it in one try, and Chai at the end was a minor pain, but I also beat him in 3 tries. I might play the second game right away, just to get these over with.

Severed [Vita] ⏳ 8 hours 37 minutes ? 4 years, 9 months ? ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛??? 7/10 Nice quick and fun platinum. Like Gravity Rush, this was a game I started when I first got a Vita, but never finished before selling it. Spent about 8 hours playing this and enjoyed every minute. Seemed to click for me this second playthrough. Straightforward enough to do in one playthrough without needing a guide. Gameplay was rewarding and sometimes challenging. Definitely a hidden gem. Popular Post HansPatat050
#56 Call of Duty: Vanguard Fun: 7/10 Difficulty: 4/10 ~ 30 hours The campaing mode was nice and fun, most of the trophies come naturally in the first playtrough on veteran difficulty, except for a few which are super hard, if not impossible. Reaching multiplayer level 55 and all the zombie related trophies was a bit of a grind but not too bad.

Popular Post DrunkenEngineer
Platinum #29 + DLC 100% - Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor (December 28, 2021) Join our hero Talion, a grief-striken Gondorian Ranger, as he teams up with betrayed ghost-elf Celembrimbor to torment hapless Orcs. A mashup of Batman Arkham (combat), Assassin's Creed (open-world, collectibles), and Pokémon (gotta catch 'em all!), Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is vastly greater than the sum of its parts. It certainly took most folks, myself included, by surprise in the Fall of 2014. The Good The Nemesis System....so good it had to be patented! Trophies patched by the developer to still work after online service shutdowns Crunchy combat with photo-finish combos Did I mention how awesome the Nemesis system is? The Bad Why are we still holding "X" to run in a game with analog sticks? Story is ultimately forgettable 100% Impressions The winter holidays is always The Lord of the Rings season. The films released in December of the early 2000s and so when it's that time of year, it's always a good opportunity to revisit one of my favorite franchises. I've S-ranked this game now on both PC (Steam) and PS4, and objectively I don't really know why. It's a licensed game, not terribly original story, lots of tropes. It lifts heavy influences from a lot of popular 3rd person games. But the IP, and one gameplay innovation, carries it to greatness. The Nemesis system shines, with each orc exhibiting lots of randomly generated personality. At one point you'll come across a particularly thorny captain who just becomes your bane, and it's completely random per save file. I had one that I had murdered in so many different ways he showed up with a burlap bag over his head to mask his horrendously burned face. He wasn't happy about this, and loved to taunt me when he'd get an opportunistic kill in. The trophy list is a bog standard affair. Collect all the collectibles (manageable, nothing overkill like Assassin's Creed or Far Cry), engage in some light background challenges, and explore the Nemesis system. Nothing missable, all can be achieved at any time, though there are advantageous situations in story missions to knock out a handful of trophies. The real memorable experience is in the DLCs, namely the Test of the Ring and, notoriously, the Test of the Wild. Both offer a randomized scenario with challenging objectives. Complete them all, get a trophy. Test of the Ring was reasonable and easy (had one attempt I flubbed up and went slightly over time), and a large part why I did the DLCs out of order. Narratively I felt like ending the game with Talion (first DLC) rather than Celembribor felt better. Test of the Wild has some truly sadistic requirements, but the big one is doing it all in under 40 minutes. Both of my successful runs on Steam and PS4 were completed with seconds to spare. For one we are talking 5 seconds, and I was riding a Graug and trying to eat the last captain required for a beast kill, and willed him to not bother chewing his food! There is a very specific strategy shared in most guides, but you'll still be subject to the RNG gods. Run into a Warchief's bodyguard immune to combat moves, stealth finishers, and arrows? Hope there is a Graug bait nearby! I've read that the sequel was controversial at launch because of the microtransactions. It seemed like the publisher found a sleeper hit with Shadow of Mordor, and mined its sequel unnecessarily. Maybe I'll get around to playing Shadow of War, but for now the first game will sit forever in my collection of memorable game experiences.

RedRodriguez87
#368: Collect All Trophies Another day, another plat, another decent movie tie-in. As you might expected with owls, flying is the aim of the game, and this part works almost perfectly. Everything you do, you do in the air, and it all works great. The speeding up, slowing down, gathering and chucking projectiles, attacking, divebombing, throwing, doing the Izuna Drop (yes, really), it's all fun. Well, excepting the gad-awful aiming. No option to toggle between holding and just pressing, no way to switch targets while remaining locked, and the game's tendency to target the most inconvenient object. It didn't ruin the game for me, but it did taint the experience a bit. I'm ashamed to admit, but I nearly did that myself. My first run was to gather the majority of the trophies, and the whole time I was just trying to barrel through it, to miserable results. Anyone looking to try this one, do yourself a favor and acquaint yourself with your every move and not get into the mindset of button-mashing. Thankfully, I wised up during my second playthrough, so it and the last 2 went smoothly.
Popular Post Redgrave
#238: True Phantom Thief - Persona 5 Strikers I held off on getting this for a while since I was unsure about it but luckily it wound up going free on PS+. I thought it was a pretty good continuation of Persona 5's story and despite it being similar to a Musuo style game it felt original and complimented the Persona setting without it being too similar to the Warriors type games where you mow down thousands of enemies on each map to complete certain objectives. In a way it's a Warriors game but with a Persona twist to it where you get to use different Personas to fight the enemies and you get to exploit their weaknesses like in the mainline games. The story is shorter compared to P5 and P5R and is basically a road trip kind of story where you visit different cities. The story was enjoyable like the aforementioned games and the new characters were well written and likeable. The gameplay is sort of different since there's no time constraint involved so you're free to mess around in the cities until you're actually ready to leave them and even then you're free to re-visit the dungeons again for Requests and grinding. The only downside is that there are less Personas to use although it's not like a major downgrade and the ones you do get are fun to use. For the trophies they are pretty straightforward and the one that's a big grind is the one for getting the Bond level to 99 but I managed to do it by farming a unique enemy on the Merciless difficulty in NG+ so the only obstacle there is getting to it which isn't so bad as long as you have Yoshitsune (immunity to lightning, strong against fire), Metatron (mainly for his ability that lets him revive all allies and remove status ailments), Alice (for Spellmaster and the Die For Me! ability), and Thor or whichever strong lightning element Persona to use. Once you make Lucifer and give him all the best ice abilities the difficulty just comes down to bosses being really tanky.
Popular Post AK-1138
Platinum #692: Ratchet & Clank - Into the Nexus Difficulty: 3/10 Playtime: 15-20 hours(?) Lllllllllllladies and gentlemen, llllllllllet's get rrrrreeady to gooooo... Into the Nexus, hoping against hope not to be buried at SummerSlam by the wo--aww shit, I just remembered I used this bit already. Whelp, then I ain't got a dyspeptic wallaby's urethra worth of anything new for y'all today. Fitting, as part of this was written amongst the thunderous doldrums of the most predictable, and likely worst, Royal Rumble of all time. Oh well. Okay, so after two enjoyable, if flawed, experiments with the Ratshit & Crank formula it's back to basics for our favourite bullet-dispensing duo with an honest-to-vague-metaphysical-forces classic shooty shooty platformer, the way it was intended to be. And it's... enjoyable, if flawed. But ya gotta know... having now caught up with all series' entries save one, I am forced to concede that may well be the story of its life. Notwithstanding the fact that it'll likely never be a top tier series anyway, Insomniac can never quite seem to create the "perfect" R&C game. Which, of course, is my roundabout way of saying the PS4 game is still my measuring stick. But I digress. Now, in terms of pure gameplay, Nexus resides amongst the prime exemplars of the series' strong points. It's got a varied and balanced arsenal, with weapons befitting any manner of enemy configurations, and a fun little skill tree mechanic to top things off. The Winterizer/Blizz-O-Matic is one of the greatest things in the series, weaponizing the irresistible power of C̶h̶r̶i̶s̶t̶m̶a̶s̶ Life Day to turn enemies into gently nightmarish snowmen akin to something Calvin (he of the ambiguously imaginary toy tiger, and not the 14th century religious reformer) might cook up. Dispatching cannon fodder alongside not only my beloved boastful bullet boy Mr. Zurkon, but his equally bellicose nuclear-powered family, was a sheer delight. Zurkon Jr. sounds almost exactly like a Duck nephew from the OG DuckTales series; you know, the one set in Duckburg, and not Suckturd? Insomniac, guys, I know you're busy being SIE's right hand these days and all, but you've got the makings of the greatest sitcom since Horsin' Around just lying about, here! Money on the table, guys! Money on the table! Eh, ambition is wasted on the wrong people... The slick fluidity of its kinetic dynamism is only ever rarely challenged by some bad design choice or other, and it is thusly one of the most enjoyable R&C games to actually play... for as long as it lasts. Because, you see, it represents much more than just a bit of a step back from the scale of A Crack in Time. Boasting a pitiful rookerful of four worlds (and the prerequisite Generic Tournament Planet), it really can't help but feel somewhat like an upscaled Vita game. Ironic, considering its planned Vita port died a dog's death... or maybe not so ironic, since its intended multiplatform state must have inevitably factored into its... minimalistic approach. This results in a game that doesn't take all that much longer to complete than watching the aforementioned Shittiest Royal Rumble, if only in terms of actual time and not how long the experience actually feels... hoo boy, but the relativity of time is a mindfuck. And then there's the fact that it comes across as a bit of an uninspired "greatest hits" nostalgia trip with little new to offer. In a more sprawling offering, this approach could well have come across as a soothing foundation of familiarity amongst all the newness... but such as it is, it comes across a more like a crutch for Old Man Lazy McLazyBones. The Generic Tournament Planet quip probably tipped you off already, yeah? The old "Gather X Amount of Troll Sphincters" side quest similarly rears its somewhat unsavoury head, with nary a change made from before or after. The anti-gravity mechanic (with nary a mention of its inventor, Prof. Kriplespac, even!) feels sorely underused. And, while not as taxing as the Crack in Time Clank puzzles, the Limbo-esque platforming sections wear out their welcome righto quick, and that's before they slow the final boss fight down to a crawl! They're also a huge reason as to why I doubt I'll bother with the skill points, because those things are bad enough without time trials or movement limiters. An occasionally frustratingly uneven mix of the old and the new, all told. The Hunt was a pleasant, if rote, experience. Contrary to the advice of guide writers everywhere, I cranked up the difficulty to Legend during the first playthrough to spicen things up. Early goings were a little rough, but much like a skittish Arabian horse, I managed to break it soon enough. The EXP ratio is one of the fairest in the series, and only a select few weapons ever constitute grinds worthy of note. The fact that every level gained tangibly increases weapon performance instantly makes it a much more rewarding experience than usual. Nothing super inspired here, just thankful that none were tied to the aforementioned skill points. Into the Nexus is a fun yet incosequential ratchety and clanky time, and if, unlikely as it seems, you do end up writing home about it, you won't be doing it on triple-layered virgin redwood-sourced paper. It's been a heck of a largely enjoyable journey shooting my way through the universe, and I'm eagerly anticipating to see what A Rift Apart has to offer. Oh, and I'm also doing the Vita stacks of the OG Trilogy down the line, because that's the kind of stuff the Year of the Backlog was made for. To infinity, and even further, I guess. Final Score: 7.5/10 Edited January 30, 2022 by AK-1138 Lack of formatting ruined one of my bits.
Popular Post Bahraini_carguy
38th Platinum: Yakuza Kiwami (PS4) Game info: Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the very first Yakuza title from 2005. Based on Yakuza Zero's engine, Kiwami supposedly boasts better gameplay, modern graphics and expanded storytelling compared to the original. The 4 fighting styles from Y0 returns but with some mechanical tweaks. Much of the minigames from the previous title like karaoke and pocket racers returns as well. The story is actually largely the same as the original but with some additional flashback cutscenes to flesh it out a bit. Chronologically, it's the second game in Kiryu's saga.Story (Chapter 1 & 2 spoiler alert): Spoiler Story Brief: The story begins in 1995, 7 years after the event of Y0. Kiryu Kazuma, an up-and-coming lieutenant of the Dojima family, finds himself in an incident that will change his life forever as he takes the fall for a murder he never committed in order to save his loved ones. 10 years later, Kiryu gets released from prison only to find himself in a foreign world that he no longer recognize. His sworn brother is now a changed man and the Tojo Clan is on the brink of a civil war. =================Opinion: Storywise, Kiwami does have it's fair share of moments that hits but since the story is nearly identical to the PS2's version, the story slightly pales in contrast to much later games in the franchise. Heavily altering the story would be nearly impossible without potentially ruining the entire lore. It's not a bad story overall, especially if you played it after Y0 since that game does bring a proper backstory to the majority of the characters in this game minus Yumi for whatever reason. Trophy: Difficulty: Can be difficult at times but it's mostly a smooth sailing otherwise. Like in most other Yakuza games, you will have to work for 100% progression which includes everything from eating every meal at a restaurant to playing mahjong. It will take a while to reach that point. You'll also have to beat the game twice, including a playthrough with Legend difficulty. The latter of which can actually be done in NG+ unlike in Y:Zero. Finally, there's the dreaded Climax Battles which's surpisingly easier than the one in Y0, still hard as heck tho. Overall, it's a good game but i still prefer Zero. Hopefully Kiwami 2 would be better. Edited January 30, 2022 by Bahraini_carguy

Popular Post Moridin83
#194 Chasm An indie retro metroidvania. If that totally puts you off, it did the same to me at first. I don't remember when or why I bought this, but I was looking for something to play that would require minimum guide involvement to do efficiently, and this fit the bill. When I got into it, I found myself liking it a lot more than I was expecting. The retro graphics are well done, and not just super pixelated to give it that "old-school" feel. Hard mode hurts a little. Most regular enemies can kill you in 4 or 5 hits, but it's not bad once you recognize attack patterns. Mortal can be done on easy in a couple hours, without the tension that would come with trying to stack that and Hard. If I had one negative for this game, it's that I don't think it benefits at all from the semi procedurally generated world. It's a long enough game, and enough things will always be in the same spots that it doesn't feel helpful or useful to have some things mildly displaced. Other than that, a solid title I had a lot of fun with. Nothing groundbreaking, but a good time was had.
