Another strong start to Judgment Remastered. Going into these type of genres like mystery, murder, crime and other shits going on. The progression is still on steady progress at the moment. I know 'Aw shit, here we go again' applies to a different Grand Theft Auto game, but that was the thought I had when I saw the Trophy list for the Definitive Edition of Vice City. Take the bloody Cannoli is back.

 

 

For those in the know, this Trophy was first introduced in the PS2 Classics version of Vice City - a cheap port of the PS2 version that was pulled from the PSN store ahead of the Defintive Edition being released - and it was a complete pain in the neck. Just read up on the Trophy description in the original port's Trophy Guide. - you know your Trophy's badly thought out when players have to invoke multiple glitches/exploits AND rubber-band their controllers for hour on end.

 

Well, the Trophy returns for the Defintive Edition, of which both cross-gen versions (without cross-progression) are free to play on Playstation Plus Extra until February 2023. Despite having only Platted the PS2 version as recently as March of this year, that countdown timer was enough to trick me back to 1986, back to doing the Cone Crazy challenge again and again.... and again.

 

 

Take the Cannoli is no longer a Gold but rather a Silver, which was a disappointment but perhaps fair given that its requirements have been decreased tenfold; only 10,000 reputation points are needed this time, rather than 100,000. In my experience, playing Cone Crazy and performing its money exploit 19 times is enough to get there, and I did it twice today to unlock these awful Trophies right at the start of the playthroughs and just get them out of the way.

 

Since this version of Vice City only had the bare minimum amount of work done to slap a full price sticker on the box, this exploit from the PS2 still works; finish the challenge - pass through five markers without destroying any traffic cones within the time limit - with zero seconds remaining on the timer seven times, then finish it nine times with one added second per run left on the clock. So the first of those nine runs, finish with one sec, the second finish with two sec, the third with three, and so on. This tricks the game into constantly doubling your payout to the point where you get millions and millions of Dollars - and since your reputation points go up alongside your wealth, you can save yourself the trouble of having to do the ridiculous accuracy glitch which was mandatory on the PS2 version and forced you to shoot at a yacht for about six hours (I'm not making this up).

 

Thanks for nothing, Rockstar. The minimal coat of paint and marginal quality of life improvements added to Vice City do not do this monumental achievement in gaming history the justice it deserves; a seminal open world title, a landmark much like GTA III and San Andreas which also were left starved of a proper new version. I really only dove into the Definitive Edition to make sure I can Plat the stacks before they leave the service, thus making sure I never get tempted to actually buy the games. Because let's be real, even with how poor it looks when viewed in 2022, the original Vice City never lost its appeal, and will remain my go-to version over what Rockstar themselves consider Defintive (until we get a similarly shoddy attempt at a port five to ten years from now).

 

 

And here's the kicker; three Take the Cannoli Trophies, yet I've never had cannoli IRL. About time to try, I guess.
