Popular Post Mendant909
Game 1: Guacamelee! Day 1 So far the game is leaving a good impression on me. It's a MetroidVania game with more emphasis on Metroid as upgrades are from Choozo statues and there are some places that need backtracking after getting fighting-style upgrades like headbutting or uppercutting. The story is a mixed bag for me as I like the origin and motivation for the main villain, but Juan, the main character, just seems to want to stop him since the villain kidnapped his childhood love, el presidente's daughter, who I forgot what her name was so I'll call her Ashley until the story brings up her name again. My main gripe with the game is the humor as it's more internet-fueled with memes and video-game references rather than Hispanic culture. Gameplay wise the game gave me several beatings, namely the first boss who either did an arena change that made it impossible for me to touch the floor yet was mandatory to trigger the next phase, or turning herself into three copies who swiftly attacked, had different weaknesses and only one being the true target. Platforming is a bit complicated as you need to fall down a platform but perform a swift uppercut while switching to the parallel world. Hopefully the game keeps up this momentum and this could end up in the top three of the games from this list.
Popular Post crimsonidol38
Game #1:Midnight Club: Los Angeles () What did I know about the series? Similar to the NfS: Underground-games it focuses on street races and tuning/customizing with an open world to explore. I only knew this series from a few multiplayer sessions back in the old PS2-days. So I was eager to try the series out when I bought this game in a PSN sale back in 2013. 3 years later I'm forced I decided to try out this game finally and what's the first thing I can say about it? The game has a cliché story about an East Coast dude wanting to build up his reputation in LA by competing against the locales just for fun (I guess?). I don't know if there's more behind it but I guess it stays this way. The first thing I actually had to do was to customize the controls and the awful camera settings. I don't like it at all when a camera moves a little bit to the left and right while driving through corners to make it more action-oriented. I just want my plain old static camera behind the car. Sadly there's no option to change the speedometer to km/h instead of mph but as I can barely read it at all it's ok. The open world is at first rather impressive but soon I realized that it's hard for me to distinguish all the streets one from another, especially at night. Everything looks to similar IMO and that makes it less fun to explore than the imaginary cities Paradise City (Burnout Paradise) or Fairhaven (Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2012). The races itself are ok but I can't really judge them so far as I still have my beginner car (Nissan 240SX) with only some little tunings so far. The same applies for the controls. They feel a bit clunky but this may also be a result of the fact that I barely played any racing games in the last 6 months. My overall impression after the first hours:For me personally it's a below-average racing game so far. So far I even had more fun with Ridge Racer for the Vita. And now I want to play Burnout Paradise again. Edited July 2, 2016 by Crimson Idol
Popular Post Oobedoob S Benubi
Game #1: Tropico 5 Second day Total playtime: about three and a half hours (of which about an hour and a half in tutorial) Today I stared on the story portion of the game, completing the first mission (declare independence) in about two hours. After becoming independent though, I was immediately forced into the second mission and onto a new island so I could have completed the first mission in much less time - you can declare independence as soon as you have at least a 51% approval rating, which I had for a while but I kept busy developing stuff and making sure I had an army because I didn't want to have to pay to become independent. I did not know that I would immediately lose my island once completing the mission. I think this is perhaps the most important thing I have to say about the game today: I like it so much that I really want to get into sandbox mode and just build stuff. Even if only half the games this month are this much fun, I'll consider it a success. For today/tomorrow, I will probably not get into sandbox mode but I'll keep on playing the story to see what variations it will give. For the record, I've put all playing options (economical difficulty, political difficulty, disasters) to easy (or "very low, very low, none" respectively). I usually don't play these types of games and I just want to enjoy myself. To my joy, the game is still not insanely easy on this low difficulty, it seems like this is exactly the right kind of difficulty I need/want at this point. On to the actual gameplay: the game makes it really cool to see your own little island develop over time. It has lots of options, even if many options are still closed in colonial times. I'm very glad I played the tutorial first because it prepared me very well for what is needed for at least the first story mission. The two hours I played on the first story mission made me really invested in my little island and I wanted to keep on playing with it and developing it into an amazing country, I was already planning ahead with the special power of my first heir, a great development team and so on. Popular Post effdeegee
July 1-3 Child of Eden I wake up today, stretch out and say, "Hello, everyone. I hope you're all enjoying this lovely Sunday." to which someone promptly replies, "but it's not Sunday. It's Saturday."Oh. I guess I'll just turn off the ol' alarm here, seeing as how I don't have work tomorrow, and pretend this whole thing never happened. I'm sipping on my morning coffee, the game store doesn't open for a couple of hours; I guess I'll play some more Child of Eden.I turn it on and calibrate, notice I'm on level 4 of 5, the "Passion" Archive, and proceed to get my ass handed to me twice in a row; once, 5 minutes into the level, and once during the final moments of the boss fight. Did the game just introduce a difficulty spike, or am I just Poopy McSuckerton after I wake up? The amount of projectiles was ten times the amount of the previous three levels combined and the amount of screen movement was greater, as well. Combine those with the facts that there were far less health drops and I had just woken up, and you've got a recipe for WTFitis. I quickly turned off the game before I managed to put myself into a position where I no longer owned a functioning PS Move. I'll try again later, after I'm more "uppy and walky aroundy."
Popular Post MarkusT1992
Wolfenstein: The New Order I'm enjoying this game more and more. When I starte this game I expected a generic shooter like Battlefield or COD but this game is no generic shooter. Someone here mentioned a part in a train and I think I now know what this person meant. It's at the end of chapter 3, which I finished, and there you have to choose between two cards but you can also pick up the weapon on the table. So I did this and got killed. I could finish everything much faster but I have to search for the collectibles even though they are on the map. I had to backtrack in chapter 3 to find a health upgrade which I overlooked the first time I was there and so on. Some are hidden well some are lying somewhere you can't really miss them. It's also nice to get a trophy for every perk you unlock. There are 4 "skilltrees" with 8 perks each. That's 32 of 51 trophies only for unlocking perks. The "skilltrees" are: stealth, tactical, assault and demolition from which stealth and tactical are the most important for me. I'm trying to kill everyone whithout being seen. I sometimes even reload the last checkpoint when I get detected.
Popular Post MStalker58
Helldivers Day 2 14/31 Trophies The community finally won the war! For a while, I thought a trophy related to the final invasion glitched on me. After seeing a recap of the stats from the war and the end of game credits, no trophy popped. Went back to my ship and was introduced to the new war. Opened up the galactic map and explored some of the new planets, still no trophy. After freaking out for a minute, I learned that apparently some people have to visit the Armory, where you customize your Helldiver and upgrade weapons, before the trophy will pop. Why do you have to go there? Beats me. Other than that, I don't have any crazy or dramatic stories to share. Teamed up with Hemiak again last night. Along with a couple of randoms, we cleared a few planets, unlocked some new stratagems/power-ups to play around with, and got our asses kicked by some huge and annoying bugs. The usual. I like how you unlock new stratagems by clearing planets instead of having them tied to ranking up. I'm not a fan of MP games where the whole point seems to be just ranking up to unlock stuff. This method of unlocking items along with the fact that all of your missions add influence to the community war effort, really gives the online a sense of purpose. This is something that I find lacking in most online games where everyone is just trying to level up for their own purposes. Took another look at the trophy list this morning and I doubt that I'll be getting many more trophies the next couple of days. Most of the rest appear to be grinds or specific actions that are way above my skill level at the moment.
Popular Post Maddawgmax
Progress: 12/12 Well I finally finished this piece of garbage. When I started and had trouble with two of the first three levels on hard I'm thinking how is this a 4-6 hour game I'm only on chapter 4 and I've almost reached that time of playing. Well turns out once you beat those levels it's pretty much a cakewalk. The graphics were garbage, the story was crap it was basically John Connor wanting to save 3 dudes from a Skynet building and I found myself agreeing with everyone else (who conveniently died) that they should forget about those 3 dudes, no point risking countless others trying to save 3 dudes that somehow managed to survive what seemed like days. The gameplay was also absolute garbage cover system was bare bones though I thank God that the shotgun had no range limitations. And the voice acting omg it was horrendous. Even Common sounded like a complete acting amateur. I wouldn't advise this garbage to anyone even for the easy platinum its more frustrating than fun. Oh yeah and the game crashed on me again, but fortunately it was right after the platinum popped. I don't think I could have played this a second time. Oobedoob S Benubi
Well, thanks to someone else not feeling well, my plans for tomorrow fell through which means I have much more time for gaming :-) I might spend it partially on DOOM on Transformers or Leo though. I've got enough time in Tropico anyways and it might be nice playing some of those big AAA games alongside this monthly activity (and I'll continue playing LEGO with the missus anyway). Also, me starting more new games will give me an even bigger percentage loss :-)
Popular Post effdeegee
July 1-3 Child of Eden First off, congrats to Maddawgmax on his new platinum trophy and for achieving the first and only completed game in this event so far. The review was a tad harsh, but the internet and differing opinions are like my belly button and lint; it's very rare to check it and not find some. After turning off my game earlier this morning, I decided to head to the game store, grab a coffee for my buddy and I, and chillax at the store for a while. In my recent state of PS Move euphoria (pardon the Child of Eden pun, btw), I thought it would be a good idea to pick up Kung Fu Rider, still sealed, for $4.95. I checked out the controls and plot and was horrified. It's about doing Kung Fu while riding through Tokyo on an office chair and pulling off rail grinds. Yeah. It's either gonna be unique and cool, or terribly bad. I have a feeling already, but I'll reserve judgement until I play it. I came home and decided I had been "out and about/up and at 'em" enough to get the ol' bones warmed up, so I fired up Child of Eden, in order to show level 4 who was really the boss of me. I kicked the crap out of that level and the next (and final) one, too. Stupid game thinks it can tell me what for... pfft. The game was so shocked by my new found badassery, that it started hemorrhaging trophies. Completed this level, all collectibles in the level, completed that level, certain percentage of all collectibles in the game, and on and on. Yeah. That's right. I beat the game and got the final cutscene and credits. Now, all that's left is the bonus level called the "Hope Archive." Not sure what to expect, but it'll be played before my final review of the game, tomorrow.

You should at least try to run some of the levels on hard. Extra enemy spawns, about 50% more projectiles, enemies take more damage, and each hit does double damage to you. What's not to love? About hope. Let's just say that I had gold starred every single level in the game on normal and hard, and hope still took me about 5 tries. DO Not worry about score on Hope, the entire goal is to reach the end. Edited July 2, 2016 by Hemiak
effdeegee
have fun with Hope... That is all. Judging by the incredible drop in trophy rarity, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the Archive's name "Hope" stems from people always hoping that they could at least survive to the end of the level. Popular Post MesopithecusUK
Game #1. Rainbow Moon - Day 2 Current Play Time: 5 Hours Trophies: 6/53 I kind of feel like an element of tedium has struck - spent a lot of time grinding rainbow pearls to allow me to level my characters up a bit so that I could defeat a boss. I normally don't mind a grind on an RPG but given I want to see more of the story, I've ended up frustrated. To soothe that frustration I took a break in between leveling to make pizza dough for tea later Kneading the dough did the trick, as I came back to the game and beat the boss...wooo! I still like the battle system, but can see it getting kind of annoying as I find more characters for my team. There is another boss that I need to face next to progress the story but need to wait until midnight game time so I can fight it. I keep forgetting to eat in the game, it's a mechanic I'm not really used to. I've focused mainly on leveling up Baldren (the main character) but I have a new character that I really need to give some leveling TLC to. I'm loving the music In areas it's kind of soothing and almost lulls me off to sleep More tomorrow though...I'm kind of tired and cranky after putting up with 'splosions all night from the knuckle draggers nearby who think it's cool to let off mortar type fireworks at all times of day and night

If you go for the Plat you will eventually need to get all 6 peeps to level 99. The game requires two runs anyways and people usually max out on the 2nd run, so I'd save them either way. Then you can fully experience your first run. If it's 30 levels at any point I'd wait until you hit mid 60s and then use it. Popular Post voodoo_eyes
Firstly happy belated birthday to HCG Clawz Secondly, sorry for the late update. I thought it wouldn't take too long to finish off the level I was on, which was about an hour ago when I started it, so I thought I'd make it in time (before midnight) as the missions aren't all that long in this game. But this mission decided to give me the finger. I guess it serves me right for being unfaithful to it, and dedicating some solid time on the Star Trek co-op stuff, but I digress... Far Cry Classic - Day 2 update Hours played: 6 Trophies earned: 12/22 Missions Completed: 11 So apparently game freezes are a thing now, and always happened when loading up a checkpoint. Had two today, fun times Anyway... more pewpew, more glitches, more monsters. Yup, there's monsters or mutants. Supposedly mutated monkeys to be specific and also some that resemble versions of the Super Mutants from Fallout 3. Now you may be wondering why are there monsters in a Far Cry game, well because... hang on, I ain't got a clue, and I bet neither do the developers. All I know is, that I was suddenly reminded of Half-Life... a game I'd much rather be playing right about now.
Popular Post Mendant909
Guacamelee! Day 2 Not much to add from my last post. Faced two bosses, one who had pawns distract me while another was a simple boss fight that tested whether I actually mastered the abilities I've acquired. One piece of dialogue that stuck out to me was how the villain said he was going to use Ashley as a "sacrificial virgin" yet she was snickering at that statement. Maybe this will play into the ending but if it doesn't it's a joke that actually made me laugh; better that a perverted goat-man that wants to do my mom or a reference to Star Wars. I accidentally managed to find a location with a secret orb and it was reminiscent of Super Meat Boy's level design, but it actually used the game mechanics to make full use of the platform section. Maybe the other secrets will have shout-outs to other games mechanically rather than just as background design.

I'm not sure anymore if there are things that carry over in a NG+ without any further needs but there's a so-called Grade Shop, which allows to have some special bonuses when playing a new game (e.g. 5x EXP). Grades are earned by acquiring the titles of the characters. Oh and also a happy belated B-Day from me. Popular Post effdeegee
July 1-3 Child of Eden Trophies: +15/50 (7,484 - 7,499) Here we are at the end of the first of ten games. Not a bad start, ol' Hemmy boy. Look at them views and replies, eh? You've hit the big times. I replayed a few more levels, both last night and this morning, and found that I was unable to score 100% purification, or get 100% of the bonus items, in any of the levels. I still had fun, but didn't feel like reaching the point of stressing myself out over a video game, so I decided that was my limit. I've never been a fan of games that demand perfection because I'm not perfect and neither is the hardware, and if you miss one shot, you screw both trophies, so it would just be hours of me banging my head against a digital wall, for no physical reward. Before I decided that I'd had my fill of the three-day trial, I tried the level "Hope" once. I made it to level 6 (of however many) and was overwhelmed by the sights and sounds. As the levels progress, the music and obstacles speed up to point where you have less than a second to react and your ears are being raped by ten 'drummers,' simultaneously playing different songs. I failed and said, "Well, now I know why that's a 1% trophy." A plus for me was finding out you could use the trigger to launch your Octo-locks. That made keeping/increasing my multiplier much easier than flicking the wand with my wrist. A minus for me was the fact that I never attempted the game while using the Dualshock 3.With all of that being said, Child of Eden was still a fantastic game. It is simple, colourful, entertaining, and most of all, fun. If you own a PS Move, this game is a genuine reason to blow the dust of that wand and use it. If you don't own a PS Move and ever thought about buying one, this title should be one of the first games you experience. If you liked games like Flower, Journey, and flOw, you'll also enjoy this one. Lastly, I realized that, if my completion only goes down by 0.30% per game, 3.0% over the course of the event isn't so much "killing" my completion, as it is giving it a little slap on the bum.
