Popular Post FilmFanatic
I advanced GTA 3 a bit more today as well as getting a couple of miscellaneous trophies out of the way. I'm really hating the camera, a third person game really ought to allow you a 360 degree view without having to move the character but then it is a PS2 game. Combat was a bit of a pain in the ass as locking onto an enemy was hard although this may be down to not facing the enemy which comes back to the camera problem again. For a game all about being a criminal getting busted by the cops is far too easy. All they have to do is open your car door and you're done. I also had to do a mission today where you need to drop 4 hookers off at a policemans ball and despite having a 5 seater car I had to drop them off one at a time which made no sense (maybe having more than one in a car would start a catfight or something ). All I can say is I do hope I start to enjoy this game more than I currently am and I will definitely continue cheating my way through the game as cheats don't disable trophies.
Popular Post Mendant909
Game #9 Beyond Good & Evil is a cult classic from the sixth generation and received a poor HD version on the seventh generation of consoles. It seems that Ubisoft games that received an HD port, like the Prince of Persia trilogy, retained any technical problem the originals had while only doing a half-assed job at giving the games shiny HD textures. This game has items that are either jagged polygons or pixelated textures that received no attention to improving. The camera controls seem to be poor as the y-axis is reversed but the camera easily shakes from movement. The controls themselves are odd as most actions, like talking or pushing a button, are done with the square button, the circle button is to use an item, the left and right d-pad rotate items, and the down d-pad lets you access your e-mail and collectibles. Now that I got my gripes with the game out of the way, I'll talk about the gameplay and as much of the story as I've accessed. The story revolves around our hero Jade and her pig uncle Pey'j who live in a planet that's constantly attacked by the alien force DomZ. To gain some money Jade photographs the wildlife in the planet, and aside from earning money and a picture or two for assignments the camera isn't used that much. Storywise the money is needed to protect the orphanage but mechanically money is used to buy upgrades or repair items for either yourself or your hovercraft. The main collectible in the game are pearls which are used to upgrade your hovercraft and thus gain access to a new section. Jade eventually gets involved with the revolutionary force called IRIS and learns the truth about the government, Alpha Sections. While Jade was looking for the scoop, Pey'j got abducted and now Jade has to try to rescue him as well. The story seems alright as there are clear goals for what Jade needs to do and who the main antagonist forces are, which is a step up from the original Jak & Daxter. Another improvement the game has over that series is the health system, the locales, and traveling system. For one Jade can increase her heart level, meaning that she can take more than three hits before dying. If Jade dies she respawns with half of her health and close to where she was, not having to restart from the beginning of a dungeon. The town is small enough to know where the shops are and easily locate important places, while having dungeons like the Factory and Slaughterhouse trackable by a compass. Getting there is done by your hovercraft which rarely has someone trying to shoot you down unless it's your first time trying to get to the enemy base. There's a running option and the ability to sneak by enemies so it knows how to use those mechanics to aid in platforming. Basically Beyond Good & Evil is what the Jak & Daxter series failed in being yet it's a shame that the latter became successful while the former became a bust. The HD port didn't do much to make it look better or improve some of the problems it might have had with the original, making me wonder what was the point of porting it without giving it some polish. I'll see if I can play more of the game in the next few days but more likely Mass Effect would take the final spot in the top five. Beyond Good & Evil may have an interesting story about aliens and the shadiness of the government but there's been game narratives that have raised the bar since 2003. Fortunately for this game there are still games that have stories that are just garbage (Dante's Inferno, Shinovi Versus, Ultra Despair Girls) so I could see why BG&E retains it's status as a cult classic. Game #10: Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (Day 1) This game seems to be much shorter than The New Order which isn't necessarly a bad thing. I'm still in chapter 1 of 8 and so far it feels just like an addon for The New Order. I think this game was meant to be a standalone addon like Saints Row Gat out of Hell, but I could be wrong. I don't know whether this game is set before or after The New Order. You play again as William J. Blazkowicz who is invading Castle Wolfenstein undercover. The castle is a base of the Nazis and you want to defeat them. Your cover gets eventually blown and you land in a prison cell and now must escape. That's all of the plot I know so far as I'm still in the castle. You're correct about The Old Order being a standalone expansion pack of The New Order. I've read that it was a prequel and if BJ is invading Castle Wolfenstein that might have been before the space Nazis put him in a coma.
Popular Post crimsonidol38
Game 10, Day 1: FEZ (PS Vita) Before I bought the PSN-version of FEZ back in 2014 I barely knew anything about this game. I knew that this was one of the highlights of the XBLA and an acclaimed indie puzzle platformer. Oh and I knew that many consider the main developer of the game to be a big asshole due to some provoking tweets. But that's all. The game itself is more or less a 2D puzzle platformer with an 8Bit pixel look. You take control of some stylised creature called Gomez and you are told to meet up with a Hexahedron. The hexahedron falls apart and your goal is to rebuild it by finding all smaller parts of the haxawhateverdron. To achieve this goal you receive a magical fez (some orientalic hat) which gives you the ability to rotate the world around the vertical axis by pressing or . Once you press the one of the buttons, the world will rotate by 90 degress either clock- or counterclock-wise, giving you the possibility to see and interact with the objects that weren't visible before. It's a simple play with the perspective as some may know it from games like echochrome or Monument Valley, with the only difference that those are more top-down and FEZ has a side view. To get all the small parts of the hexawhateverdron you have to use this ability combined with the typical platformer-elements like jumping, activating switches or open up new pathways by using bombs. While you are on your way through the world you are also able to find some keys to open up locked doors or find some cryptic treasure maps. The world itself is split up into several cuboids that are connected by doors. Whether the current sub-sections is any of any significance or if it's just a passage way to another section can be seen on the map which is activated by pressing . If there any objects to collect (or some secrets to be revealed) the map tells you so by placing small icons right beside the cuboid. If you have found everything, the cuboid is turned golden. So far I have collected enough smaller parts to create at least 8 cube shards which would give me the possibilty to traverse to the next area but somehow I totally lost orientation in this world. For me it's not that easy to find the proper door to return to the "main" hallway. There are some warp gates which will bring you to one of the main areas but I still feel lost. And the world map doesn't help me either. This game really shows that my spatial visualization ability ain't the best. The platforming itself is easy to handle so far but that might change soon. Oh, and I won't comment on the puzzles yet as I first want to find out what they are all about. ETA: This century... voodoo_eyes
I know that it's more a matter of the ideology but non of the people living nowaday have anything to do with the things which happened in the past. I don't say that it is good what happend in the past but it's part of history, and you cann't deny history. In my opinion it is part of a game set during that time and as such should be visible, but I can understand that it is forbidden by law. I agree that the gameplay isn't affected by all this and the atmosphere is the same with or without the swastikas. I prefere the German dub over English. It's just easier to listen to your native language than a foreign one no matter how good you understand it. And I don't like reading subtitles all the time as I cann't concentrate on the picture and read at the same time. So I'm glad when games get synchronized in German. The thing is in a lot of games that have Nazis as enemies, are not even set in a historic setting (Wolfenstein has a fictional adaptation of that era, hence the dinosaur like robots ). They're often chosen as enemies for the sake of it, because originality isn't a thing devs seem to have anymore these days. The most recent example... COD infinite Warfare is about Nazis in space, that concept alone is as dumb as can be. The restrictions regarding propaganda in Germany may be overprotective, but history has a tendency to repeat itself (as cliché as this may sound), and it's shown in recent events across the globe. Also I don't mind the games being dubbed to German, what annoys me is them wiping the English language option out entirely. The German version of Dishonored/Skyrim let's me choose between 5 different languages, but English ain't one of them.

The German version of Dishonored/Skyrim let's me choose between 5 different languages, but English ain't one of them. I think this kind of "no swastika" mindset in German media has an unfortunate implication: not showing them, and not having Nazi enemies but more general villains, seems like the Nazis can't be depicted as villains (because none of the high profile media in question paints the Nazis as the heroes). Personally I get very annoyed by games dubbed in Dutch. I want the original dub, regardless of what it is. Having English subtitles is enough for me. Then again Germany just dubs movies anyway so you all are more accustomed to this practice, in Holland the movies are in their original dub (except for kid's movies, which are shown in both OST and in Dutch dub). Edunstar84
Anyone else thinking about adding a few statistics or a final tally to their final reviews? Or maybe a day or two after? Oobedoob S Benubi
Anyone else thinking about adding a few statistics or a final tally to their final reviews? Or maybe a day or two after? Something along the lines of: How many plats earned Story finished, but not platted Highest/Lowest number of trophies earned Which games were more enjoyable, ranked from highest to lowest And of course, starting and final percentages. There's probably a few more I can add. This is what I did last time, and I think I'll do it exactly the same this time around: Complete overview Starting stats: Completion percentage: 52,79% Trophies won: 4.835 Unearned trophies: 3.796 Games played: 244 Ending stats: Completion percentage: 50,95% decrease of 1,84% Trophies won: 4.969 increase of 164 Unearned trophies: 4.087 increase of 291 Games played: 255 increase of 11 Updates missed: 2 missed one day of Grid and one day of Mousecraft, did not game at all on those two days. I only have gone up 11 games even though I started 13 games this month, 14 if we count games with no trophies earned. I guess that games without trophies count for this stat and I must've deleted some empty ones from my card. Stats per game: #1: Tropico. Playtime: 7.5 hours plus additional time during MarkusT1992's run for the co-op trophies Trophies won: 13/71 (only 51 base game trophies, 5 trophies were obtained aduring co-op) for a weighted completion percentage of 15% ( rank B ) #2: Flame Over. Playtime: 8 hours Trophies won: 25/36 for a weighted completion percentage of 51% ( rank A ) #3: Yakuza 4. Playtime: 3.5 hours Trophies won: 1/49 for a weighted completion percentage of 15% ( rank E ) #4: ZOMBI. Playtime: 2.5 hours Trophies won: 8/21 for a weighted completion percentage of 23% ( rank C ) #5: Chariot. Playtime: 3.5 hours plus some additional time later on when trying co-op with the missus Trophies won: 7/37 (1 was obtained during co-op) for a weighted completion percentage of 10% ( rank A ) #6: Bionic Commando Rearmed 2. Playtime: 2.5 hours Trophies won: 2/12 for a weighted completion percentage of 9% ( rank C ) #7: SSX. Playtime: 3 hours Trophies won: 9/37 for a weighted completion percentage of 17% ( rank C ) #8: Grid Autosport. Playtime: 1 hour Trophies won: 3/61 (only 51 are base game trophies) for a weighted completion percentage of 3% ( rank E ) #9: MouseCraft. Playtime: 2 hours Trophies won: 4/12 for a weighted completion percentage of 20% ( rank C ) #10: Nova-111. Playtime: 3 hours Trophies won: 6/12 for a weighted completion percentage of 35% ( rank A ) Additional games started: Leo's Fortune. No trophies earned so it doesn't affect the stats. DOOM. 8/34 for a weighted completion percentage of 12% Transformers Devastation. 5/31 for a weighted completion percentage of 13% LEGO Marvel's Avengers. 2/71 for a weighted completion percentage of 2% Additional games played: LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens. 51/55 (new DLC trophies are online, the level with which to get them not yet) for a weighted completion percentage of 94% 10 trophies of this game were obtained before starting this event. The platinum was obtained during the event. Verdicts looking back: #1: Tropico (on PS4). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in May 2016. I usually don't play construction games that much but this is definitely a game I want to go back to. Nice music, many options and difficult but rewarding. #2: Flame Over (on PS4). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in March 2016. It didn't appeal to me at first but I'm glad I kept on going. On of the games I enjoyed most in the end, and the only one which I finished during the event. Will play the Vita version at some point. #3: Yakuza 4 (on PS3). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in February 2015. It showed promise but what a drag this game became. I dubbed it "Adult Entertainment Industry Manager" and I stand by that. A game called "Yakuza" should try to lure me in with intrigue (like Sleeping Dogs did), not make me choose a woman's clothing she can wear while she chats up dudes. #4: ZOMBI (on PS4). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in April 2016. The only game I put on the 'abandoned' pile in my backlog which still manages to get a bronze. I enjoyed a lot of this game but there's too much about the gameplay that puts me off. A stupid death system and being a stealth game that gets loads of zerg rushes are the two biggest flaws. #5: Chariot (on PS3). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in October 2015. Fun little puzzle game which I will definitely continue on some day. The only downside is that the game is stylised for two players while only a rare few will play in co-op because you both need to be good at platforming to be able to enjoy this. The game is still very enjoyable on your own. #6: Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 (on PS3). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in May 2016. During my final review I said "This is a game I'll use as an argument for years when talking about mediocre games with some potential being killed by laggy, when not outright broken, controls" and taking the time to figure out what to say more feels like a waste. #7: SSX (on PS3). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in December 2015. Not a snowboarding game but a Tony Hawk game in disguise. Combining bad level design with moronic excuses for story and characters, I just couldn't bring myself to care for it. #8: Grid Autosport (on PS3). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in February 2016. I would have liked to give this game more time and another chance. Based on the fun the co-op was, I'm willing to give this game the benefit of the doubt for now even though my bad first experience with the career. #9: MouseCraft (on PS4). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in July 2015. This game has some nice ideas but just falls short for me. In the end it just is not compelling in any way. Such a shame since it started out feeling like a lot of fun. #10: Nova-111 (on PS4). Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in February 2016. A lot of fun can be had with this game. If you liked PixelJunk Shooter (Ultimate was on PS+ for PS4 in June 2014) and are not bothered by turn-based elements or if you just like puzzle exploration, you have no reason not to try this. Final thoughts on the event: Yeah this was a lot of fun. My completion percentage wasn't crushed nearly as much as I thought it would be, but that's when you get when you just start ten games and keep playing in them for hours instead of getting one trophy and moving on to the next until you have no unplayed game in your backlog left. I prefer this approach. I really enjoyed the last month, even though I've played some horrible games which are now on my card forever, because I also got to know a lot of fun games (Tropico 5, Flame Over and Nova-111 being the top three) all of which I wouldn't have played for months or ever if I hadn't signed up for this event. Count me in for the next one. I also kept posting updates whenever I finished another game. Aftermath Games left to do: Games done: Finished Mousecraft today. The second game after the event I finish, third total (Flame Over was finished during the event). These were my thoughts on its final day, and below my recap at the end of the event: This game has some nice ideas but just falls short for me. In the end it just is not compelling in any way. Such a shame since it started out feeling like a lot of fun. I still think that's true. At the start it seemed like such a fun game but it got boring very quickly. It has too few original ideas on its own as a puzzle game, and what little originality is there, doesn't work. In the end, I just wanted this game done with and used a guide to get through the last quarter of the game quickly so I could focus on games I actually want to play. Something along the lines of: How many plats earned Story finished, but not platted Highest/Lowest number of trophies earned Which games were more enjoyable, ranked from highest to lowest And of course, starting and final percentages. There's probably a few more I can add. I can certainly add another post with this stuff, but I'll admit now when I rank games in order it can at times be arbitrary. I'll try and do it either while it's slow at work or when I get off. Though I'm thinking I'm the only one who didn't earn any plats from games played for this event. I did earn three plats, but one was a new short game and two were for the fall backlog challenge, not this. Only one of my games was really short and it has some very frustrating trophies and is best played in short bursts.

Popular Post DamagingRob
Game 10, Day 1- Mad Max Trophies earned: 8/50 for 11% Time played: 9 hours 9 hours, already? It's Just Cause 2 all over again.. We've reached the final game. Mad Max has you playing as... Mad Max, in a post apocalyptic world. He is joined by a dog he saves from being lunch for a weird-looking guy, with a hunched back. This guy's name is Chumbucket, and he reminds me of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. I don't trust him. He named the dog Dinki-Di, after what seems to be a popular food item in the wasteland: cans of dog food. Yum. There's a lot you can do in this game. And I mean a lot. Those 9 hours have been spent entirely in about what looks like a 4th of the total map, and I haven't even done every side thing in that 4th. :/ But it's an open-world game, and less of a shooter than I was expecting. You really only have a few bullets on you, at any given time. So, often times, you are fighting enemies hand-to-hand, with a fighting system that's a lot like that featured in the Arkham games. You punch, counter, dodge strong attacks, and can pick up melee weapons that break after a number of uses. Getting so many hits in without getting hit yourself too much, will activate Fury Mode. And you're attacks will be stronger for a time, or until you get knocked out of it. There's a lot of driving involved, as this the only means of transportation(besides running). And you can drive a number of vehicles. But your main ones, are the only ones your companions will come along in. Dinki-Di in the Buggy, and Chumbucket in the Magnum Opus. Both have their uses. The dog can sniff out landmines, and diffusing them will lower the threat level in the region. Meanwhile, Chumbucket will shout out warnings when danger is close, and fix the car when it's not moving. There are a plethora of side activities, which will probably get a bit repetitive.. A lot of them will reduce the threat level in the region. But there are base camps, where you'll have to infiltrate and kill everyone inside to liberate. Scarecrows that can be destroyed by ramming them, or using your car's grappling hook to pull them down. Enemy cars that can be destroyed for scrap(used to buy upgrades for Max or cars), new hood ornaments, or kill challenges(there are many different challenges in the game, that you can do. And will do, if you want the Plat, as there's a trophy for doing all of them). Minefields to disarm, races to race, side missions, scavenging locations to scavenge and find collectibles, and hot air balloons you can ride up to get a lay of the land. You have safe havens, which you can upgrade. Either by doing certain side missions, or by finding the required parts for each upgrade. Now, when I visit, my health is fully restored, ammo replenished, water canteen filled(which you can drink to heal on the fly), gas in my car is filled, scrap is collected while I'm offline and automatically from cars I destroy, and I get more scrap for every cycle my base collects it while playing. Pretty addicting so far, though. Looking forward to playing it some more over the next 2 days and probably beyond.
Popular Post lednatius
Game #9Time played: ~3.5 hoursTrophies: 10/50 (15%) This game is meh. It might be the worst game I've picked for this event, but it's still not terrible. I've only started the main campaign mode and haven't done much else. Basically you get a boat/ship and travel around something like an RPG overworld to different locations advancing the story and getting into fights. It's an arena fighter like powerstone, or pokken tournament. The fights are very repetitive and easy though. I don't feel like i wasted $$ getting this though. I got it on sale for maybe $12, and I'm familiar with like 95% of the characters and some of the humor and dialogue is good/ fun. Also, it seems like it'll be an easy+ not overly long platinum, so theres some enjoyment there kinda. I could go into more detail about some of the fighting mechanics i guess, but its all pretty basic and repetitive. You fight mostly on teams of 2 + an assist character. I think it might change to 3 v 3 though it doesn't change much. The first team to get 3 KOs wins. If you die you respawn so technically you can KO 1 character 3 times. I'm using Luffy, and every battle so far has been easily won with repeating 1 combo and doing the ultimate attack (which you just have to press R3 for). Battles get you points to spend unlocking new characters and stuff. Other things to buy include items to boost your stats or repair your ship, or coins to put in a lottery thing to get cards of the characters. You can activate these cards to give you things like more defense, or reducing your hp a bit in exchange for charging the ultimate attack meter faster.Don't get this game unless its < $10 on sale and you love + know almost every character.I continued Star Ocean a bit and started Natural Doctrine. Natural Doctrine really is unique/weird, but not bad so far.
Popular Post voodoo_eyes
Game #10 - Day #2 Total Time played: about 2h 30m Total Trophies earned: 8/30 Progress: Played for another hour cleared Time Attack mode, unlocked 2 more "extra" modes. I'm still not sure what's up with vs mode being locked... Anyway went back to Weapon Master mode, am currently in chapter 3 and sub chapter 1. The latter is sort of a survival mode (1 round and health regenerates a bit, if you win the fight) with a dungeon layout. You move from area to area after winning a fight. If you lose, you can try again. Did about 10 wins, got to the " final boss" kept losing. Since I couldn't be bothered playing more of it, I quit the dungeon. Then I had a feeling that this game was going to fuck me over for leaving the dungeon. Well, I was right. Went back to the dungeon and sure enough all the areas disappeared and I'll have to start from scratch . In other news, I went back to Killzone a couple of days ago and finished the campaign. I've also gone back to Letter Quest and got all stars in 10 levels so far.
Popular Post XX_FTW
Ooohhh my goodness this is the first time I've been on a desktop in days... so I've got two games to discuss. Game 8 | Hotline Miami Time Played: 2.5 Hours Trophies Earned: (didn't sync my vita but I think 3) ZOMG I suck so hard at this game. Hotline Miami is a top-down shooter/brawler with a touch of strategy. Why do I suck so hard? The pace. This game is fast. Enemies react quickly once you are in their sight/presence and you need to be hella twitchy to react before you're dead. It was apparent from the start that I would no do well with this game, as I spent entirely too long completing the early levels. I'm not sure I have that much to say about the gameplay beyond its pace and my inabilities so... On to the aesthetic! The visual styling of the levels hearkens back to arcade games with the low-res, repeating textures and simplified models. It feels almost like it was intended to be played on an old Gameboy. And that it is all intentional. You are supposed to get that 80s vibe and to help you, the music and title treatments set the tone right out of the gate. The soundtrack was almost good enough to keep me from giving in to my awfulness. Would recommend it pending a person's tastes but I'm in no rush to get back to it. That said, I'm pretty sure it's just on this side of masochism and I may dive back in one day. Game 9 | Letter Quest Remastered Time Played: 6 Hours Trophies Earned: (didn't sync my vita but I think 2) without guide, dictionary, or website Now here is a game I knew was for me and, I was right, it is! Billy did a good job discussing it in his (Billy, I assume you're a guy) reviews, so I won't waste your time with an overview. This word puzzler rpg-lite was a nice palate cleanser after the pummeling I received with HLM. I largely agree the rpg elements are unnecessary but I'd argue it is this variety that sets it apart from the Bookworms and mobile word games already existent. The bonuses each scythe, spellbook, power up etc offers play an important role as you progress through the levels as inflicting significant damage despite using common letters becomes very important as your opponents have larger and larger HP reserves and inflict more and more damage per attack. My favorite part is that each level has four ways it needs to be played if one wants to complete the game. This approach essentially combines Time Attack, High Score, etc modes with normal play with the need for additional menus or selections. Choosing to use stars to get this across however, may have been ill-conceived as we have been conditioned to associate stars with rankings. All that aside, I am a book and language person and so I enjoyed my time with this and expect it will become a resident on my vita. Even after I have cleared all the trophies, I expect I will pop in occasionally just because. I recommend giving it a go. Okay, no on to Deadly Towers tonight, as I spent last night with the Sims again. I have a problem.
Popular Post MarkusT1992
Game #10: Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (Day 2) I only finished chapter 1 and played a bit of chapter 2 today. Let's talk a bit about the controlls. The game is a shooter so you can obviously shoot and aim. Like in most games it's on and respectively. While holding you can lean to all sites with the left stick. You can jump with , use a melee atack with , throw grenades but I forget the button for that. With you can use your weapon in akimbo which means one weapon in each hand. In the previous game you could use a sniper akimbo style which is kind of useless because you can't aim. Otherwise the akimbo is good to do lots of damage. The nightmare levels are fun to play. I like the old 3D effects which rotate the things like pots and tables around you Trophy Progress: 9/51 12%
Popular Post Hemiak
Hello all, great job continuing on this last week or so. I've been sporadically checking in but haven't felt motivated to do much more than that. I haven't had my ps3 on over that same period. First off, my family and I are fine. Second, I won't be explaining or excusing my absence. Third, I have no plans at the moment to run another event. This wasn't the catalyst for my leave, merely an innocent bystander which may or may not be permanently affected. I am however, willing to let someone else take over if they're willing. Send me a pm and we can work on details. I finally felt guilty for talking 20+ random strangers and friends into starting 10 games, so tonight I forced myself to fire up all 4 of the games I've been slacking on. I earned a trophy in each one and then synched my system, which should reduce my asshole level by at least two. For each of these I started the timer on my phone at the same time I pressed start or x from the splash screen. Game 10, 5:38 seconds played, 1 trophy earned. I fired up Geometry Wars 2nd actually, but for some reason it's listed out of order on my profile. I fired up the very first Adventure mode, and gave it a whirl. For those that don't know, GW3 is a twin stick shooter that's played on a non-scrolling level. The first level was on a large circular platform which moved around slightly depending on where I was located. I saw about 4 types of enemies, that move in various patterns. Each enemy killed gives you points and also drops small crystals (geoms) that you can grab for even more points. Killing enemies in a row also increases your multiplier. Each level has point targets to get 1-3 stars. I restarted the level twice and hit 549k points on my third run, netting me three stars and a trophy. Apparently I can level up my ship but didn't play with that or any of the other controls at all. Seems fun so far. Game 8, 7:27 seconds, 1 trophy This was actually the first game I fired up last night. After hitting start I was immediately asked to input my online code... go fuck yourself. I bought a digital copy of the game, I shouldn't have to deal with this bullshit. After skipping this step I was given several different menus to go through, with this annoying announcer chick jabbering at me the whole time. To break it up I actually heard from an annoying Australian guy for a minute or so as well. The game explains every single menu option, and then absolutely nothing about the controls... :/ Anyway, casual was the initial choice so that's what I went with. I started out trying to drive normally, but after the 2nd turn I just held down the accelerator and the game kept me at the perfect speed to finish the race. I didn't spin out or even leave the track once, and I finished in 1st by about 9 seconds. I'll definitely bump that up when I return to this game. I earned a trophy for completing my first Dirt Tour race, on to the next game. Game 9 - Watch Dogs 13:09 seconds, 1 trophy So this is probably one of the games I was most excited about for the event. Even though I'm not into open world games so much, and I usually prefer swords and magic to guns and technology, something about this game intrigued me. I hit start, and at the 18 second mark I'm treated to "Please wait while we connect you to the Ubisoft servers", le sigh. At a minute I think this is getting ridiculous. At two I use the XMB check and sure enough, the game isn't frozen. At four I said fuck this, quit out, and restarted the game. I then exited psn, told Ubisoft where it should put its' head, then started in offline mode. I watch about 6 minutes of non-controllable stuff, then I'm given two prompts for certain actions, then a trophy pops. I walk around the room I'm in for about 30 seconds, then quit to the dashboard. Can't say much about this obviously at the moment. Game 7 - South Park TSOT 8:54 seconds, 1 trophy I fire this up and I'm immediately treated to Cartman the narrator explaining the backstory for the game. Then I'm asked to customize my character... 15 x presses later I have a bald white kid with a black shirt, good enough. I apparently moved into a new city, something terrible happened in my past, and I'm told to go out and make friends. I meet Butters who is getting his ass kicked by another kid, and help him out. He takes me to Cartman, who explains a few things, and welcomes me to the crew... ding! I will definitely start this over from scratch when I get around to it. Again, sorry for the brevity, and I hope everyone continues to have fun in spite of me. Hem
SyIaris
Hello all, great job continuing on this last week or so. I've been sporadically checking in but haven't felt motivated to do much more than that. I haven't had my ps3 on over that same period. Glad to hear you and your family are doing alright. Gaming is a hobby for most people; if for whatever reason you want nothing to do with it for some period of time, there's nothing wrong with that. It's been interesting to try out different things and see other people's opinions, thank you for starting it up. Hope things go better for you soon. Popular Post PerryToxteth
Game 10, Day 29 Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands Playing Time: 4 hours Trophies 16/41 (24%) First Impressions: Holy Time Machine! Now where's my hot tub??? This game has been a trip down Nostalgia Lane for me. It reminds me of so many games I played 15-20 years ago...crap! 1997 is almost 20 years ago!! That's when I bought my PS1. It might have been that long ago since I played The first Prince of Persia, I honestly can't remember. Alright, technically Prince of Persia was one of the few good Apple games in the early/mid-90s. Yes youngsters, at one time Apple had something miniscule like 10% of the home computer market and didn't have shit for software. Well, it had good software but you had a very small lineup of choices. Anyways, THAT Prince of Persia was a platformer in the same way that Contra is a third-person shooter....barely. I digress... This game has all the old hallmarks to it that I played for so many years. You can really see the influence on the Lara Croft franchise and even Assassin's Creed that Prince of Persia had. Point A-to-Point B puzzles, climbing, jumping, unsophisticated combat that's still entertaining, figuring out how to unlock doors; all that good stuff from back in the day. I am really enjoying this one!
Oobedoob S Benubi
I 100% completed Deadly Tower yesterday. I didn't get the time to write a review, going to write one in a bit. THought at first I was just going to write my day two review on the morning of day three, but I might as well write my final review now that I have completely finished the game, since I probably won't do another playthrough today (or get any gaming time at all, really). I will post my full event stats soon after. Also, as of this writing we're towards the end of page 66. Just wanted to point to this, and to the fact that my final event review of the last event was placed near the top of page 33. Doubling the pre-event chatter didn't work but we did more than double the in-event chatter! Billy did a good job discussing it in his (Billy, I assume you're a guy) reviews [...] All that aside, I am a book and language person and so I enjoyed my time with this and expect it will become a resident on my vita. Even after I have cleared all the trophies, I expect I will pop in occasionally just because. I recommend giving it a go. Okay, no on to Deadly Towers tonight, as I spent last night with the Sims again. I have a problem. That made me laugh and yeah I'm a guy, but I myself have been corrected on assuming someone was a guy on several occasions now so I try to speak in genderless words What rating would you give Letter Quest on my scale? Going by your post I'm thinking , possibly . Third, I have no plans at the moment to run another event. This wasn't the catalyst for my leave, merely an innocent bystander which may or may not be permanently affected. I am however, willing to let someone else take over if they're willing. Send me a pm and we can work on details. Good luck on the unrelated stuff. Personally I don't mind to take over, but I will wait to see if there's anyone else stepping up since I'm already coordinating at least one event next year, one that takes a whole year at that. If nobody else applies, I will certainly give it my all to keep this series of events alive. Edited November 30, 2016 by BillyHorrible
Popular Post Oobedoob S Benubi
Game #10: The Deadly Tower Of Monsters Final Review Total playtime: about six hours and fortyfive minutes (story finished after six hours) Trophies: 24/24 for an S rank (18/24 at the time of story completion) Dick Starspeed tries to come in peace While his altitude is steadily decreased Is it a movie or game Can you rescue the dame Lets complete this before filming is ceased Yesterday, I got the final six trophies in the game, including the platinum trophy. I did the hoops on my own (there's much, much more than 50 in the game) and I used a walkthrough for the rest as I did not feel like looking all over on my own. It took only fortyfive minutes to find the few collectables I had missed (and many of them were well hidden), fifteen minutes of this was used on the final nine target boards. I'm still not sure what I think of the final part of the game (if it should have stopped after part three or if part four actually adds something good instead of ruining what was there before) but I can say that I really enjoyed the game all the way through, and I will definitely play it again some time - you know, if I ever get through the rest of my backlog. At the very least, I'm not removing it from my hard drive so that I can let others have a go if I have people over. The game is a great hommage to bad sci-fi movies, and enjoyment is more important here than getting a real challenge. Trophy hunters will be glad to know that you should be able to get the platinum in about six hours if you use a guide from the start, but you can do a first playthrough on your own since after the end of the game, you're free to keep on exploring. All in all, I'm very glad that I tried this game and I'm giving it a score without any doubt. Popular Post FilmFanatic
Game 10 Review Grand Theft Auto 3 I played a few more hours of GTA 3 today and I have to say there isn't anything I like about it. This game may have been all the rage back in the day (the first GTA game I played was GTA IV) but in my opinion it hasn't aged well. The car handling is rubbish and the only way to drive reliably is with the better car handling cheat. I'm pretty sure I've run over far more people than I've killed with a gun. Just remember not to push the button as this will cause your vehicle to start flying. I pissed off my first gang today so now every time I'm wandering around them they try and assault me or if I'm in a car they pull me out to assault me. I failed a mission today because of this and it's only going to get worse as I get further into the game and piss off more gangs. Thankfully the missions in the game are short but it's annoying nonetheless. I'm not sure if this game was designed to be played with cheats on but I'm pretty sure it would be a lot harder without them. I will come back to plat this game but doing so is going to be a chore. I really hope that GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas fare better than this has. Like the first round of Plat Rain Day this event was a new way of gaming for me but not one I would want to repeat again. What really sucked about playing a game for 3 days only was playing one that I absolutely loved but having to put aside for something else even if the next game was great as well. Of course now that this event is over for me I can go back to playing whatever I want whenever I want. I've also decided that I will go back and plat PoP: The Sands Of Time first as I would rather get that game over and deleted with sooner rather than later. Then it's back to Tropico 5 before my Christmas holidays start on December 21st and I go nuts playing Destiny for 10 - 12 hours a day if I can.

Verdicts looking back: #1: BADLAND (on PS4). - BillyHorrible - Crimson Idol Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in September 2016. An interesting idea being brought down by subpar controls/physics and a boring level design. Backgrounds are really nice though and this can be a game where you play a couple of levels quickly while you're waiting on something else to finish downloading. #2: Lords Of The Fallen (on PS4). / - MarkusT1992 - BillyHorrible Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in September 2016. A poor man's Dark Souls, and manages to make quite a few errors on things that Dark Souls did right. Recommended if you love the Soulsborne games and just want something more, or if you think the Soulsborne series is too hard (in which case I'd actually recommend trying Soulsborne some more). #3: Super Stardust HD (on PS3). / - MStalker58 - BillyHorrible Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in March 2016. It's the classic Asteroids, updated for the 3D age. It's decent enough but in my eyes it never tries to rise above the crowd. It's fun enough while it lasts. #4: Furi (on PS4). - BillyHorrible, DamagingRob, Danny_Johansen and MarkusT1992 Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in July 2016. Demanding, but fun. Awesome, not perfect. It's a great game for people who want a challenge. Getting to know each boss's tacktics takes time, but is very rewarding every time you finally take one down. #5: Tricky Towers (on PS4). - Danny_Johansen - BillyHorrible Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in August 2016. Though Danny really enjoyed this game, I was just very annoyed by it. It's stacking tetris blocks, there's little in the game that made me really want to continue playing after the first thirty minutes. Only the levels where you had to fit everything underneath a laser were really fun. #6: Resident Evil (on PS4). - whoareader - BillyHorrible Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in October 2016. Unfortunately not a remake but just an HD version. It's got the same bad controls and bad camera of the original. I think that remaking this in such a way is pointless, either do a remake from the ground up or make a new game, and at least try to improve on your mistakes either way. #7: Everybody's Gone To The Rapture (on PS4). - BillyHorrible, whoareader - PerryToxeth Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in November 2016. Great game with a compelling story, it's like finding snippets of a Stephen King novel. Even though you already know everyone has been raptured, the game provides enough twists to keep you guessing about either the main plot or the lives of the characters, and you'll keep coming back to find out more. #8: DiRT 3 (on PS3). - Crimson Idol - BillyHorrible, MStalker58 - PerryToxeth ? - Hemiak (will update if he manages to play the game and post his views) Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in November 2016. I was enjoying this game enough to give it a rating but then I found out that stunt events (jumps, donuts, what have you) are integrated into the main campaign which I think is a really horrible choice. It's supposed to be a rally game, not a stunts game. The sudden annoying voice-overs for the stunts stuff only make matters worse. #9: Letter Quest Remastered (on PS4). - voodoo_eyes, XX_FTW - BillyHorrible Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in November 2016. Average all the way... Don't love it, don't hate it. Probably the first game on my list I'll try to go back to, though. I enjoyed it but it's just nothing really special to me. #10: The Deadly Tower Of Monsters (on PS4). - BillyHorrible - Fitzquaid, XX_FTW Final thoughts on last day. PS+ in November 2016. Amazing love letter to bad and old sci-fi movies Still do not know what I think of the final part of the game but it's been great fun regardless. Definitely play this if you enjoy those bad production values of old sci-fi movies, if you're just looking for a fun action-platformer that's not too demanding then you will enjoy this as well. Final thoughts on the event: Oh, FilmFanatic just HAD to post his end of event stats during his final review, while I was waiting for someone else's post so I wouldn't have to triple post, didn't he? Once again, lots of fun. This time around there were less games I absolutely loved, but then again there were also less games which I hated with a passion. I'm using these events to play through PS+ games I have lying around so it's win some, lose some. Now I hope that with the Financial event and the Casual event put together, I can really bring myself to actually finishing many of these games I've been starting. And yes, count me in for the next one. I have these games on my shortlist: Kitten Squad, Rebel Galaxy, SR Gat Out Of Hell, Ultratron, Doodle Trilogy, COJ Bound In Blood. Costume Quest 2, FC3 Blood Dragon, Retro/Grade, Actual Sunlight. For future reference, here's my rating scale: Awful piece of shit. Watching paint dry would have been more interesting. Just bad. Not horrible but it leaves a sour taste. And not the good kind of sour like lemons. Mediocre all the way. Too mediocre to even compare it to something, just like... uhm... Fun game, great while it lasts. It can brighten even your bad days. Just like pizza. Popular Post ladynadiad
Starting stats: 78.95% completion46 completed games20 platinums57 games at E rank or higher340 unearned trophies I made a tiny adjustment to my starting stats and removed all F ranks from counting as games played or unearned trophies so the stats would more accurately represent me playing the games for the first time during this. Ending stats: 67.62% completion49 completed games23 platinums68 games at E rank or higher631 unearned trophies I didn't platinum any of my games for the event despite having 3 new platinums. 2 of the games I platinumed were for the Fall 100% backlog challenge (which I did finish) and 1 was My Name is Mayo which I bought for the easy plat and its goofy humor and because I could justify it more with tacking it on to another purchase I made during the black friday sale (since PSN store requires $5 minimum for wallet funding). I also started one game that wasn't from the event because it was the sequel to a recent platinum, Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II. If anyone else has beaten the first game, they'd get why I couldn't wait, and I would have put it in this event if it wasn't a recent purchase. So it was over 11% drop in completion, but it would have been more if it wasn't for me finishing some games I was working on, one new plat and continuing with a few games. Stats per game: Time and Eternity: 7 out of 30 trophies (1 gold, 6 bronze) for 18% completion and a C rank.Final Fantasy XIII: 3 out of 36 trophies (3 bronze) for 4% completion and an E rankRune Factory: Tides of Destiny: 7 out of 38 trophies (7 bronze) for 10% completion and a D rank.Resonance of Fate: 3 out of 49 trophies (3 bronze) for 4% completion and an E rankMuramasa Rebirth: 9 out of 66 trophies (1 silver 8 bronze) for 8% completion and a D rankhtoL#NiQ - The Firefly Diary-: 7 out of 25 trophies (1 gold, 1 silver 5 bronze) for 19% completion and a C rankMind 0: 19 out of 36 trophies (6 silver 13 bronze) for 36% completion and an A rank.Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll: 1 out of 42 trophies (1 bronze) for 1% completion and an E rank. Atelier Rorona: 3 out of 53 trophies (3 bronze) for 4% completion and an E rank.Tales of Xillia: 0 out of 46 trophies. Removed the 0% from profile entirely. Games played after their times in the event: Time and Eternity, Rune Factory, htoL#NiQ -The Firefly Diary-, Mind 0, Atelier Rorona. Games played that had trophies earned that weren't part of the event: The Witch and the Hundred Knight, Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II, My Name is Mayo, Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters. Games I enjoyed and definitely want to keep playing after the event (if I haven't already): Time and Eternity, Rune Factory, Muramasa Rebirth, htoL#NiQ -The Firefly Diary-, Mind 0, Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll, Atelier Rorona. Not going to actually rate or rank the games, because I don't like assigning numbers to games and prefer to go with more I enjoyed them or not and whether I'd recommend to others who would enjoy such a game. Like I'd not recommend Time and Eternity to everyone even if I enjoyed it, because I know it's not for everyone. I would recommend it to others who like campy games with a goofy sort of humor and premise that don't take themselves seriously. Time and Eternity: A fun game that gets a lot more hate than it deserves. To me it's evident that the hate comes from the fact that this game isn't going to appeal to the masses and instead appeals to a niche who likes more campy humor and a game that doesn't try to take itself seriously. It's not going to be the best game you ever played even if that is your thing, but it's going to be an enjoyable game at least. If that's not your thing then definitely play something else. Final Fantasy XIII: I can't recommend this even to its target audience of JRPG fans. All it has going for it is pretty graphics and if a JRPG fan wants pretty graphics and a good game, there are much better choices (I'd personally steer towards Lost Odyssey). Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny: Fun game for folks who like time management sorts of games like Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing or even the Atelier games. It's a solid game, a bit lacking in explaining stuff and giving direction, but a good and fun little time waster. Resonance of Fate: Seems like a decent enough game, but very hard to get into because the battle system is so complicated and hard to learn. Muramasa Rebirth: Very fun sidescrolling action/beat 'em up game. Easy to jump into and enjoy, lots of stuff to explore and do and overall a good game that would appeal to many sorts of players. htoL#NiQ -The Firefly Diary-: A rather difficult puzzle platformer. It's not too hard overall, but the plat is going to be frustrating and difficult. It's a neat concept, but the controls do make some of the trophies a bit more frustrating than they should be. Still is reasonably fun but probably best played in short intervals. Mind 0: A reasonably fun dungeon crawler. It can get a bit repetitive and a lot of the enemies are palette swaps of previous ones, but the game itself is pretty fun. I've been playing this one a good amount because it's the perfect sort of game to play when its slow at work. Easy to pick up and put down as needed, doesn't require a ton of thought or concentration to play, doesn't lose anything if I have to mute the game entirely (very important since I can't have background sounds at work or use headphones), and is fun. Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll: A very fun action RPG. The only reason why I am still lacking in trophies is the fact that they are slow to come at the start. I'll be going back to this for the winter backlog challenge, but definitely a recommended game for ARPG fans. Atelier Rorona: Also a fun time management sort of game, though not as chill and lacking in direction as Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny. Tales of Xillia: I just couldn't find a thing to enjoy about this game because it just seemed to have too many negatives in the beginning of the plot and gameplay to give me anything to want to keep going enough to even earn a trophy. I'd not even recommend this one to a Tales of fan because there are many better entries in the series. voodoo_eyes
Hello all, great job continuing on this last week or so. I've been sporadically checking in but haven't felt motivated to do much more than that. I haven't had my ps3 on over that same period. Good to hear you're alive and well, you never know with people going full stampede-mode over Black Friday sales. Anyhow, thanks for running this. Still my favourite type of event, not only for trying out new games, but also for getting to know new people and obviously for being fun
