As always with ES

High Elf, female, spellsword, specced in one-handed weapons, destruction and restoration magic and a wearer of light armor. Crafts her own potions and armor/weaponry

Will also spec her into all the thievery trees as I enjoy becoming super rich by pickpocketing everyone I see and stealing everything not nailed down

I'll play as a Nord. Not entirely sure whether I'll play as an archer or a SnS, but I'm pretty determined about playing as a Nord.

However I'm not sure if I'll use one character to earn all trophies, or if I'm going to use this Nord of mine to become a Companion, do the civil war and main story, before creating a new character with a different race to be a wicked wizard or sneak thief and complete the other guild quests and Daedric quests. My main Nord fellow is likely to be a nice guy, and would certainly have qualms about doing the Daedra's bidding.

Maybe it's just me, but I like to pick a character with perks to skills that I'm not going to specialise in. That way, when I do need to use them, they're slightly boosted. Like @damon pointed out, everything you do use will be boosted up to respectable levels in no time.

Consequently, I usually go for Breton, and I like to main a stealthy archer assassin type of build.

I'll be trying a Khajiit. In all my past playthough's I stuck to the human races, so I decided to have a change.

Since it's based on an existing character of mine (not Elder Scrolls related) who's an alchemist, it's also forcing me into a playstyle I've never really tried before by trying to avoid offensive/defensive skills as much as possible. Usually I go the thief/archer or barbarian route.

edit: I'm still having fun with it, but something I didn't really notice so much before, being human n' all...Other characters really don't react to your character in a way you would think they would. This became really apparent whilst I, a Khajiit, was stood in Whiterun being told by somebody how Khajiit aren't allowed inside the city walls as though I wasn't one...Not to mention being refereed to as a man quite a few times when my character is female...

I mean, I get why this would happen in terms of not gating off content, but it would have been neat if picking x race also came with the negative aspects of being that race, or I had to at least prove that I could be trusted unlike the the other Khajiit (which I can't. I've stolen a lot).
If I remember correctly, people at least acknowledged I was an Imperial or Nord whilst so far the only character to really acknowledge my race was the "who are you?" guy.

But whatever, I'm a cat now, so it's cool.

I've played as a Redguard since Morrowind, but I actually went the Breton route this time for a reason I don't know why (just needed a change, I guess). I always liked Redguards for the sole fact that they fit my hoarding style quite nicely with their Adrenaline Rush ability that gives me enough strength to tow my heavy items back to safe storage instead of having to choose between them out in the open. Other than that, Adrenaline Rush is absolutely worthless and probably well deserved for the hate it gets, but, aside from the orc's ability which is like turning down the difficulty for a minute, I don't find any of the unique abilities particularly useful after the first couple of hours so in the end it's kind of a wash.

By comparison, my Breton started out this way for the skills I use most:

Smithing: 15

Heavy Armor: 15

Block: 15

Two-Handed: 15

Archery: 15

Speech: 20

Alchemy: 20

Restoration: 20

Alteration: 20

By level 15, my skills look like this:

Smithing: 30

Heavy Armor: 31

Block: 27

Two-Handed: 41

Archery: 39

Speech: 34

Alchemy: 29

Restoration: 26

Alteration: 27

It's fun turning a mage-specific race into a melee warrior or a thief.
