The contest has come to an end.

I hope everyone had fun and also like to receive some feedback, primarily about the scoring system, but other things are welcome too. Things like:

  • What did you think about it?
  • Would you change anything? If so, then what?

I'll go through every participant's profile to check the plats and points and hope to post the results within a few days.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Two guides list 40-60 hours and another one 36-50.

Time to tally up the score :D.

Total Points: 0

WHAT?! I earned the most plats I've ever earned in a single month and I still got zero points :awesome:. In all seriousness though I really needed to finish up some games for Platinum Rain Day so none of my games ended up counting, despite the fact that I've gotten 6 plats in the last month. Hopefully, I can do a little better next year and actually play games that count for the contest xD.

By the way, if I had to change anything it would be to make games with a top 50 time of 5 hours count for the contest similar to the THL. I feel as though a lot of great and even challenging games were not counted due to exploits and speedruns. Thats just my opinion though :D. Either way I'll be back for next year's contest.

Ratchet & Clank - 67.63

Gat out of Hell - 85.49

153.12

Nothing impressive, I got a late start and decided to go back to older games instead of starting more; pretty sure those are the only two that count. Was fun to watch everyone progress, though. Congrats to the winners!  :yay:

Kuuhaku's point scale still seems like a good balance to me. Wouldn't mind the top time rule being tweaked a bit either, since there were a lot of games where first place disqualified it and second place was twice as long.

Don't ever scare me like that again...

There is no way to plat Life Is Strange in under 5 hours. Everyone else from both the PS3 and the PS4 version have 7+ hour completion times. Even if you knew every way to shave off as many seconds from the play time as possible to get to the end, there's no way it can be done in under 5 hours, as each episode is a little over an hour, so at 70 minutes per episode with 5 episodes, that'd be almost 6 hours. The fact that that guy did it in just over 2 is total hacking. Can't seem to report it though. @Stevieboy

@dernop did do it and explained it to @Sly Ripper, who removed the flag from him.

Didn't think it was possible, but that Life is Strange speedrun thread does prove it's legit  .

What he's saying is that he played until the end of each episode without getting any trophies and quit. Afterwards he completed each episode and collected all photos in collectible mode. This means that he played few hours to prepare everything and in the last two hours he unlocked all trophies. His actual playing time was much longer.

Anyway, it doesn't matter in the end as I'm not in the top 3. Maybe next time. :)

I'm gonna suggest the same thing I did before for changing the multipliers

So I did some thinking while doing the lily rank grinding in HDNU and I thought up some different multipliers based on the hours. As it currently stands, playing longer games makes you earn exponentially less points per hour. The following table shows this assuming all games are at 10% rarity:

  rarity x (hours/50 + 1)
guide hours 10 50 100 1000
per game 90 180 270 1890
per 100 hrs 900 360 270 0
per 200 hrs 1800 720 540 0
per 500 hrs 4500 1800 1350 0
per 1000 hrs 9000 3600 2700 1890

As you can see, this means playing shorter games will earn more points per hour if the rarities are the same. If you wanted the points to be spread out equally, making the multiplier increase for every 10 hours would solve this. It is shown in the following table:

  rarity x (hours/10)
guide hours 10 50 100 1000
per game 90 450 900 9000
per 100 hrs 900 900 900 0
per 200 hrs 1800 1800 1800 0
per 500 hrs 4500 4500 4500 0
per 1000 hrs 9000 9000 9000 9000

If you wanted longer games to earn more points (which I think was your initial idea with the multiplier thing,) my idea would be to increase the multiplier for every 10 hours and add an additional 10% for every 50 hours. The table below shows how this would look:

(rarity x hours/10) + (rarity x hours/10 x 10% x hours/50)
guide hours 10 50 100 1000
per game 90 495 1080 27000
per 100 hrs 900 990 1080 0
per 200 hrs 1800 1980 2160 0
per 500 hrs 4500 4950 5400 0
per 1000 hrs 9000 9900 10800 27000

So what are everyone's thoughts on this? Should a vote be put forth for the multiplier value?

After looking at the data from this contest, it's clear that playing shorter games will give more points per hour than playing longer games. Playing 0-50 hour games earned about 159% more points/hour than 50-100 games despite being about 72% of their rarity. The 0-50 hour games also earned 191% more points per hour than 100-150 hour games despite being 34% of their rarity.

Rarity Rarity Points Guide Hours Multiplier Points/Game Points/Hour
0-49 Games Average 22.0664894 77.9335106 18.8085106 1 77.9335106 4.86565348
50-99 Games Average 15.9858333 84.0141667 56.25 2 168.028333 3.05640431
100-150 Games Average 7.64142857 92.3585714 110 3 277.075714 2.54861571

I'm definitely going to be doing something about this.

Congratulations everyone!!

The spreadsheet was sweet kuuhaku!

I came in at 20 out of 35(those who got any points) that puts me in the 42nd percentile. I'm mostly content.

Though I'd probably be higher if we used kuuhakus point system.

I actually enjoyed this event, I think it needs refinement, but it was a solid idea! Start planning next year!
