PS4 Announcement - Thoughts

I've been watching the streaming event, and maybe my expectations were too high, but I am slightly underwhelmed. Don't like the controller (yet), Knack looked ok but not the kind of game I lean towards, and, I dunno, Andrew House seemed more like he was giving an class in using advertising catch phrases than being genuine. Am I in the minority in thinking motion gaming sucks? When was the last time a PS3 game came out highlighting its "six axis functionality"?

Don't get me wrong, I am still getting it, I guess I was expecting more on VOIP, release games, tech specs, etc. What do you all think?

I'm really disappointed that PS3 games aren't supported but everything else seems great to me so far. The ability to play games before they finish downloading, the controller looks cool and seems very comfortable and the 8gb of ram is great as well. They're showing the new Killzone now...

Absence of backwards compatibility is a real hammer blow; it's sheer greed on Sony's part. Some of the added features to the profiles are cool, but so far the games are your typical, generic racer and shooter types.

Agree 100%. I really don't think backwards compatibility should be as big a deal for Sony to pack in for this day and age.

Coming from someone who was skeptical and pessimistic on the next-gen and what they had to offer, I'm truly impressed mainly with the PSN "Profiles" () system with you being able to upload your picture and having more of a personal "connection", per se, with your friends. As for a person who consistently replies to messages and am always helping with games that others require assistance on, it gives me the sense of joy being able to connect more to others and what not.

However saying all of that, can someone please answer what's the deal with backwards compatibililty? I can't play the amazing jaw-dropping Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception on the PS4?! I had stuff to do and was immediately tuned in when I got the chance, sorry for the idiotic question. Also, will the PS3 still be able to upload trophies and connect to online even when PS4 is availible? Or is it dead day one? Online only and digital games? New games only? What's the deal here?

Sorry for all the questions, it seems like IGN is only hype rather than actual answers to my questions.

P.S. David Cage will always have my money

Here are my reactions to the video Square Enix showed

"Oh great, possibly a TPS game.... Wait... The clothes this woman is wearing, could it be a new Final Fantasy game? Hmm... magic... It definitely is Final Fantasy... I hope it's not though, Something like this will definitely ruin the FF name in my eyes... Wait... She grabbed a glass bottle... COCA COLA COMMERCIAL!"

The rendering of that old man was pretty amazing. I also thought Drive Club looked pretty dope even tho I'm not a big racing fan. I frowned a bit when I heard the annoucement about friends being able to take over your game remotely, just one more way for people to cheat trophies as far as I'm concerened ^^.

ok WatchDogs looks bloody amazing. Officialy stoke.

Really disappointed with the heavy social aspects of it, that alone is almost enough to make me not want to buy the system, but then some of the games they showed look great (still that DriveClub game was looking amazing until he mentioned that's supposed to be some kind of MMO, with all the social things...).

Still Diablo 3 on the PS3 :)

After watching the whole stream I'm able to give my thoughts.

The controller looks ok, but the touchpad is kind of random add on, didn't they get why Nintendo made a seperate controller for the ones who don't want a touchpad?

Hosting a livestream from a ps4 sounds great and I'm glad to hear the vita will have support for it.

Game, Knack I really want, especially the avatars if anyone saw them. Watch dogs looked like a modern version of Assassins Creed. (Which I'm ok with) Killzone looked great, but not too intrested on it. Diablo 3? That was a surprise, I just hope they aren't digging themselves deep after what happen to them with it.

I like some of the things they showed, just not enough for me to consider a buy at all. Plus the new Infamous might not be out until next year.

Is that Bungie saying "fuck you!" to Microsoft by announcing exclusive Destiny content to PlayStation? Sure seems like it.

I think this affects PC gamers also not just microsoft.

I am pretty pleases as of now. The backwards comparability abcense may sting, but I will get over that easily. I only have one complaint....why the hell are you letting people take over another's game!? It makes trophies feel less like a reward then....I hate that. But other than that, this system is exceeding my expectations :D

The Watch Dog and Infamous game look simply amazing :yay:

The share button is a helpful attachment, as a true gamer when times you get stuckand can just look at useful tips from somebody else video is useful but as far as letting some one else step in for you i don't think that i would be using that!

Far too much emphasis on the sharing function imo. I don't play games for socialising, the only social feature I want is multiplayer and a messaging system. If I want to watch gameplay videos I'll go to youtube, I don't want everyone's 'epic headshots' being thrust at me all the time.

Watchdogs and Destiny look mind-blowing, Infamous and Killzone look decent.

All in all I found the whole thing quite underwhelming, some of the renderings were incredible but I expected to see more things with a wow factor. I shan't be able to afford a PS4 for the next couple of years anyway and truth be told I adore gaming how it is, more just interested in how things will change.
