Night in the Woods for PlayStation 4

Cuphead for Xbox One

GoNNER for Nintendo Switch

And because I never really play PC games, Undertale (2015) for Vita and Tiny Barbarian DX (2013) for Switch released this year and I absolutely love them too.

Man, this year was solid for games. My favorites in no real order would have to be

  • Persona 5
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Mass Effect: Andromeda
  • The Kingdom Hearts Remakes (bit of a stretch but ps4 they came out this year I think)
  • Middle Earth Shadow of War

Plus I'm really looking forward to trying AC Origins, A Hat in Time and LA Noire.

I didn't play much this year, but I enjoyed what I did play.

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (Switch)

Puyo Puyo Tetris with wifey (Switch)

Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

Miitopia (3DS)

Monster Hunter Stories (3DS)

Ace Attorney Trilogy (3DS)

Full Throttle Remastered with wifey (PS4)

I also played Triforce Heroes (3DS) and Splatoon 2 (Switch)

Triforce Heroes was okay, but I was ready to be done by the end of getting 100%. In fact, I didn't. Didn't do the challenges for the last world. This game is only worth playing with friends, honestly.

Splatoon 2 is a ton of fun, but it's so openly hostile to pairs and trios that I ended up resenting the game.

I barely touched my PS4 this year and didn't even look at my other consoles and handhelds. Unlike most people that say this though, It really doesn't mean anything coming from me.

Persona 5 by a long way.

Horizon was a game I enjoyed for its overall aesthetic, everything from the robot designs, environments and music were top notch but the insipid storyline and main character both felt derivative and lame. Of the only other games that I think could come close, Nioh is sitting on my shelf and I'm excited to play that and I'll pick up NieR Automata over the christmas holidays.
