shadaik
How did I sleep on this movie? Excellent music, more energy than eating a box of coffee powder disolved in a can of Monster, a story that is not the same as virtually every other movie made these days, an original premise, treating the audience like people with brains who don't need everything spelled out for them (yes, that's kinda a pet peeve of mine), telling a story without a human villain - Encanto just rushed the list to become my favorite animated Disney movie. Nevermind how their acquisition Marvel is doing, or the unnecessary live action remakes, their animated main movies are at their peak. Though I have not yet seen Strange World, which reportedly falls short of their recent streak. But Encanto is a tough act to follow. It's actually like pulling teeth to get me to sit down long enough to watch a movie, but this grabbed me from the beginning and I managed to watch it in bits and pieces during a very hectic day while getting other stuff done haha. It was goooood. Streamed on Amazon Prime. I really liked the movie goes different paths , action packed and the chemistry between characters is great.

RadiantFlamberge
White House Down (9/10) Capitol officer John Cale and President James Sawyer team up against a paramilitary group. This is hardly an original concept (think Die Hard in Washington, but PG-13) but it was one hell of a ride. Even at 2:11, it didn't seem to drag on. WHD is a close second to the somewhat similar Olympus Has Fallen. Spoiler One of my favorite lines in the movie is from President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx) : "Get this trash off my lawn!"

Popular Post Redgrave
I forget where I first heard about this but it was on Tubi so I figured I would give it a watch. It's about a clown named Art the Clown that likes to do silly pranks. You know, a bit of stabbing and decapitating and even scalping like they used to do in the old days. Just an all around goofball of a character, what's not to love? It starts off in a pizza place on Halloween night where he starts stalking the main character. Afterwards he chases the main character into a rundown building that looked so rundown and rusty that you would probably get tetanus just from looking at it. The movie in general just has this really grimy, dirty, rust look to it that it makes me think of Manhunt and to be honest I think Art the Clown would fit right in with those games. Now that I'm typing this I remembered reading that this movie stuck out from other horror movies by how gruesome it was. I think the only part that really stuck out to me was the part where he slices someone in half from the crotch down but other than that the effects in general were pretty gross (in a good way) but nothing I found too shocking. I also like how Art never makes any noises at all even when he gets hit or stabbed himself and I think they did really good at making him look creepy despite not even really having a fear of clowns. Not to be confused by the hit 2014 video game made by Shinji Mikami. In fact this movie was originally titled "The Storyteller" because the creator said something about how bizarre nightmares could be created by a storyteller. I had a video on this recommended to me and I wound up being really intrigued by it and the story behind it. It's about a guy named Dennis (who isn't quite the menace right away) who has a mental disability which is later elaborated on near the end who has strange nightmares that go back and forth between nightmare and reality. The nightmare sequences are done really well and really do feel like incoherent dreams one might have. Dennis often has dreams of the bald guy in the poster. In the credits he is listed as Cadaver however I don't remember them explicitly saying that and at one point he refers to himself as Legion. But it starts giving Dennis nightmares and hallucinations where he talks to himself in the mirror and it eventually convinces Dennis to start killing people. I'm really not doing it justice by describing it that way but there is more to it and I think it's really worth seeing. I feel like the best way I can describe this movie is American Psycho mixed in with Nightmare on Elm Street with a slight pinch of David Lynch weirdness in it. I would say give the review I watched a try to see what you're in for, but maybe just the first 10 minutes so you don't get spoiled too much if it's interesting enough. The nightmare sequences have practical effects too, which later on gives them an uncanny valley kind of look to them especially at the end. I really wound up liking this more than I thought I would and I feel like the RottenTomato score would deter people from it and I really felt like it was something different. The saddest part of it though? The creator, Andrew Getty, died before it could be finished and it's a shame because this was obviously a dream project since he started working on this in 2002 but died in 2015 two years before it got released. It's also sad because I would have loved to have seen what other things he could have created and so I feel like the horror genre lost someone before they had a chance to do anything else. EDGES
some movies I've seen in the last several months 2023 movies: Gran Turismo - huge surprise, I don't care about cars, never played GT, but the movie kept me engaged when the cars were on screen, the human part was a weaker point No Hard Feelings - cool little movie, a type of movie that you don't see much of these days Barbie - waste of time if it wasn't for Ryan, it's worth seeying once for his work Guardians of the Galaxy 3 - better than 2, a little worse than 1, solid superhero movie overall older movies: Oblivion - amazing movie, one of the best alien invasion movies, Tom kills it War of the Worlds - weird alien movie, doesn't really survive the test of time Dracula Untold - awesome spectacle to just relax to Driver - one of the great displays of Ryan, but overall the movie is a little weaker than what you would think The Other Guys - fun movie, you don't see this type of movies these days, and maybe there's a reason for it

ShinigamiSensei-
An entertaining and almost wordless sci-fi thriller where a young woman fights back against an alien invasion in a film that works best when keeping it simple, but sadly fails with a baffling third act. While not flawless in execution, it's daringly creative and overall a pretty fun movie.

I watched the film yesterday and i think its amazing the little details the movie has, its really straight to the point and its a little deeper in the end, i didnt expect that third act to be so different, not in a good or bad way, but just different, i love the alien design and sound effects are outstanding, and i love it keeps you in the edge of the seat during the whole movie
Popular Post Redgrave
Had I known this was technically Art the Clown's first appearance I would have watched this first but oh well. It's basically an anthology movie where it shows different stories centered around a main one. The setup is the classic "babysitter that is babysitting on Halloween night" trope where nothing bad ever happens. As the siblings are unpacking their candy the boy says he got a VHS tape in his bag in which the babysitter lets them watch it after some convincing (read: begging). For a VHS tape it had some suspiciously good DVD quality but that's not really important since the VHS tape is how they see the horror shorts. The first short is where I guess Art the Clown came from and I guess it was originally made in 2008. Basically he kidnaps some woman at a station and then she's taken to some kind of underground Satanic cult in a subway system. So basically just like you would expect in any other subway system. The second short I think could have been my favorite if there was more to it. It involves a woman who is alone in her house for the night and she talks about a mysterious painting her husband made. Something happens where the electricity in her house goes out and she can't get a good phone signal. Near the end it turns out aliens are in her house and they chase her around. The way one of the aliens chases her he waves his arms around and it made me think of the way SpongeBob does it. There's also a part where one of the aliens climbs on a table knocking things down and sticking his head in a box like a cat would. The short ends where the woman gets dragged off by the aliens and she uncovers the mysterious painting and it's revealed that it's a portrait of Art the Clown but it ends there. I don't really know what the short had to do with Art apart from that but I was hoping it would have turned out Art comes out and kills the aliens but unfortunately this doesn't happen and so we will never know if Art the Clown shows up to kill the aliens to steal their ship and then cause an inter-galactic incident. The third and final short feels more in the same vein as the Terrifier movie I watched and even has the gritty kind of visuals. It's not as gritty but it's pretty close, but it has a woman witness Art kill a gas station attendant and then he stalks her too. The main story with the babysitter ends about the way you would expect it to but I like the fourth wall kind of thing they do when the credits roll. Speaking of the fourth wall... A pretty good homage to HP Lovecraft's stories right down to having the detective main character be in an insane asylum to just very strange mind-bending things that happen throughout it. Sam Neill certainly went through a lot of horrorific things in 90's movies. From dinosaurs to Eldritch horrors and demons in space, what hasn't the guy gone through? It's also my first time seeing this but I think as far as John Carpenter movies go this one is definitely up there with The Thing for me. It also probably has the right mix of horror that does it for me where strange things happen that aren't fully elaborated on but it has some existential horror thrown in as well. It also mentions how the books the author named Sutter Cane writes drives people insane and they show some bits of it where they show people rioting in the news segments. For some reason that kind of thing is something that sticks with me the most and I think it's because of the idea that something as mundane as a book or a TV show being released that makes regular people become cult-ish and abnormal. There's also one freaky part where the girl accompanying John starts walking on all fours like The Grudge and the way it's done is really creepy since it's built up instead of shown right away. Along with all that it's got some pretty good lines and moments. Probably my favorite one is near the end where Sutter Cane tells John he's God and he responds with "God's not supposed to be a hack horror writer" Overall pretty good horror that's got that John Carpenter touch to it. I think one way to describe it is the story of Alan Wake except Alan Wake willingly works with the Lovecraft horrors.
Mr_Fluffy_Pants_
Watched this on the Sony core thing they just put out, one of the few movies from the ps premium catalog on there I was interested in. I’d say this was probably the fifth time I’ve watched this over the years. I remember the first time I watched it, it didn’t really click for me. Then I worked as a taxi driver briefly so maybe that gave the film a bit of relatability for me. Either way over the years I’ve come to appreciate this movie more and more and now I would say it is one of my favourites. Definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.
