Popular Post Copanele
Imma dedicate this one to @zizimonster cause it's his fault, really No. 263 - Aquapazza: Aquaplus Dream Match Platinum Name - Congratulations! Hardest Trophy - Terror of Elque - meet the last boss in Score Attack (defeat not required) Difficulty - 4/10 One more anime fighting game to the mix! Aquapazza is a fighting game developed by Examu, the same masterminds behind Arcana Heart. So, it has bouncy female characters, super tight gameplay and a nice soundtrack. And a Japanese story mode, which already means that I skipped the story. I absolutely and totally agree with all that. I really should have studied Japanese... Story aside...the gameplay is actually pretty tight, as expected from an Examu game. You can pick from a large roster of characters as your main combatant and after you will pick an assist. A fun mechanic this game has is the "Emotion" system, where if you are aggressive your "emotion" increases ,which means you do more damage and your meter recovers quicker, but you also receive more damage. Lower emotion means you don't get as much meter from attacks but you are also more resistent...I think. That's what I could observe from the gameplay. As a librarian girl, you can always push a bookshelf and crush another magical girl to death What I like the most about games like these (Aquapazza, Arcana Heart 3) are the trophies. The trophies are like little "puzzles" where you have to input certain attacks and fulfill certain conditions, like hitting a critical hit with Karulau or do 4 quick slashes into a rhythm minigame with the swordsgirl Touka. Some really make you scratch your head but it's satisfying to get them done. Or...use up all the arrows as the only archer in the game as Morgan The most bountiful Robin Hood in the East Overall, Aquapazza is a fun game that I almost missed (again, thanks zizimonster). If you have a JP account at the ready and like fighting games, you might as well give it a try. Servers are empty and fully functional so the online can be fully boosted without much of a hassle THE GOOD: Fun gameplay Interesting cast Most of the trophies are puzzle like combos THE BAD: Game is not as accessible, needing a JP account for it Recommendation - Arcana Heart 3 Love Max The game made by the same developer, of a higher quality (and of a higher chance that the local police will visit you) 💯No. 77 - Fight Hardest Trophy - All of them. Or none of them. Difficulty - you have to Fight!/10 So....Fight! is a game...where you Fight! What do you fight? You just fight! I have no idea what I just played here. This is an Unity game where you pick one of the 15 ugly looking characters and you punch and kick your way around. And that's what you literally do, you only have punches and kicks. No combos, no move list, nothing, you don't even have a main menu to set the music (or at least I haven't found it). There is an Arcade Mode but goddamn I did not feel like touching that, mainly because it starts just like a versus mode. Instead I did all the trophies in the Vs mode where I just Fight! and got the 100% Raiden fights ...Rey Misterio? What? The verdict...no, just no, don't bother with this. There is a difference between the silliness of Sonic the Fighters and the utter "why is this a thing" that Fight! brings. Just make yourself a service and Fight! in another fighting game. THE GOOD You fight! THE BAD It doesn't fight back Stuff that I would also not recommend - Girl Fight It's fighting but with girls. This one has a competent main menu at least --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sooooo we reached the wonderful part where I cross a PS3 game and add 3 more because what's gaming if not a neverending road with cheap games as roadblocks. Therefore, here are my unexpected acquisitions during my Christmas vacation (gifts AND self-bought) Tomb Raider trilogy - I actually wanted to start Tomb Raider and I think the 3 classics are the best for it. That means 3 extra games to the backlog: Legend, Anniversary, Underworld. And yes, I know that there's the new Tomb Raider games too, I will play those as well no worries Yaiba Ninja Gaiden - I bought this one on a whim (it was really cheap), but after that purchase everyone told me that the game sucks massive ass. Checking the reviews...every review says that the game sucks massive ass. However this game has a manual with the actual backstory of the main character, an asshole ninja who...bangs fiery priestesses/ninja chicks? Huh,game might be ass... This one goes into the maybe pile. If I like the original Ninja Gaiden trilogy I might give it a go. If not, I'll sell it back for..whatever the buyer wants to give me for it. A bottle of apple juice would do Ratatouille - This is a gift from my sister featuring the greatest chef in existence since the dude who invented pastries. This one has no trophies, so I have no pressure regarding playing it. But I will play it regardless. Therefore, the updated list!!!!! Popular Post Copanele
No. 264 - Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity Platinum Name - Platinum Trophy Hardest Trophy - Absolute resolve! - complete NG+ Difficulty - 3/10 Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity is an isometric Bloodborne-like where you play as Elisabeth, a newly resurrected and contracted hunter who is tasked with exploring a sinister manor and defeat the 4 knights that inhabit it. Armed with a sword cane and a gun, you have to find out not only where the knights are, but also who killed you in the first place, who you were and why is the manor looking at you with those hundred eyes popping out of nowhere. Skautfold is heavily inspired from the Lovecraftian horror genre and the Fromsoftware masterpiece Bloodborne. From what I understand, the entire game has been developed by one man and there's currently 5 games in the series, all are only available on Steam currently (of various quality and...genres?). It really is a poor man's Bloodborne, mainly because despite the lore and the idea behind it being quite good, it kinda fails in the gameplay department. The demake of BloodbornePSX As mentioned, the idea behind the game is pretty neat. The entire manor gives off a Resident Evil vibe, mixed with a bit of Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth. Enemies are as creepy as they can get (given their pixellated models), there's lots of weird vendors that offer you upgrades if you find them (and even more sinister lore), there's traces of experiments, sacrifices, sex sacrifices(!!!) and Elder Gods summonings everywhere, the whole place is a funhouse basically. There's also a rather hidden insanity mechanic, where if you die enough times or sacrifice Vitae (your in-game currency) to a mad priest, you start seeing even more disturbed stuff and even unlock a secret boss. This insanity mechanic works like the Insight from Bloodborne where your mind's eyes open to "the truth" No manor is ever complete without a sacrificial ring In terms of combat, you have your stamina based light attacks and heavy attacks. You can also parry with your gun or with your sword. The combat is simple enough but due to the viciousness of the enemies I found out that the best strategy is to just block and parry everything with your sword. Parrying opens the enemy to a riposte, where you inflict a crazy amount of damage. Pretty much every enemy in the game can be killed with 2 ripostes. Your life, stamina, healing syringes and damage can be levelled via Yth stones. These upgrade materials drop from particular enemies called Butlers, who can teleport and spit dark flames around you. They are very dangerous at first but they can also be parried. They do not respawn, which makes Yth stones to be limited each run. You can also buy Yth stones from a special merchant in exchange for Vitae, the price skyrocketing with each purchase. Believe me, you'll want every single Yth stone, because you'll need every bit of upgrade available when facing the bosses of this game. The bosses are a highlight of the game - they're fast, hit hard but have certain openings that you have to exploit. There's only 5 of them, with the hidden 6th boss, but they do offer considerable challenge, enough to keep you on your toes. I don't think the servants want me here.... All being said...this game has some issues. First of all, no matter how much you level up, if you face more than 2 enemies at once you're gonna have a bad time. The enemies will rush you like crazy and that combined with various traps spread across the room, will cause unnecessary amounts of headaches. Then, there's the manor itself....even after so many Souls games plus a super confusing The Surge platinum where every hallway looked the same, I still couldn't comprehend the layout of this manor. There's so many rooms that loop around that I ended up using a fanmade map from the internet just to figure out where I am. The good part is...as soon as you know where to go, you can finish a run in around 30 minutes The insanity mechanic, while intriguing, I'd say it's poorly implemented. In Bloodborne the more insight you had the more unnerving stuff you saw around Yharnam. Enemies damaged you more and some unlocked additional attacks, but it was all still fully approachable. In Skautfold, max insanity spawns some environmental hazards that absolutely hinders your gameplay. Some weird indestructible fire spitting eyes show up and there's even some ghosts that spread a toxic mist that deals stupid amounts of damage. It's never fun to run away from 3 crazy scissors ladies, just to randomly roll into one of those fiery eyes. I think this was poorly implemented in this game. Finally...the NG+. NG+ is an absolute chore to play, enemies spawn in larger numbers, are faster and hit faster, forcing you to skip entire rooms just to get to the bosses. Man does NG+ kick your ass in this game. In the end...Skautfold is an interesting experiment and an overall fun game if you feel like playing a Souls-like, but man it has some issues. Considering that the game is made by one man only though...that's an admirable effort, especially in the lore department. THE GOOD: Interesting 2D Bloodborne implementation Lore is actually pretty decent Bosses are fun to fight The game can be finished in under 1 hour if you know where to go THE BAD: Poorly balanced damage wise The manor will confuse the hell out of you Too many stupid environmental hazards You'll end up using parry+critical attack 99% of the game. RECOMMENDATION - Salt&Sanctuary Until Lies of P, I thought this one to be the best Soulslike out there. A "Souls" game isn't only bosses, but also level layout and lore, and I believe this game hits all 3 notes admirably.

Really makes me wonder if they're as bad as the newer Assassin Creed games. Regardless I got the full collection ready + the DLC. And as for Mirror's Edge...I started that one in 2016. Popular Post Copanele
No. 265 - Donut County Platinum Name - All Done Hardest Trophy - Flawless - complete the boss fight without taking damage Difficulty - 1.5/10 Fun fact - when learning the English language, I had a hard time differentiating the words "county" and "country". Thanks to the American Chopper show set in Orange County, I finally managed to figure out the difference. This piece of trivia has nothing to do with the game itself 😂 From time to time I am simply amazed by the creativity of simple games. Donut County is one such example, a game created by a single developer with simple mechanics but loads of charm. In Donut County you play as BK, a raccoon who works at a donut store. Helped by his friend Mira, his aim is to become the top donut seller in the county and get the fabled quadcopter, a gadget every raccoon dreams of. However, since BK is a raccoon, he probably mixed up the definition of a "donut", because what he actually does is sending a donut hole into the ground with the sole aim of sucking everything and everyone in. The more things drop in the hole, the bigger the hole gets. (slight spoilers - he actually knows the difference ) One donut coming up! Payment: your entire front lawn From the very first level you can see the love and care that was put in this game. Despite not being voiced, the characters are full of personality. The star of the show BK is probably one of the most adorable psychopaths in videogames, closely followed by Mira who tries to be the voice of reason but ultimately joining BK's master donut plan. The levels are very simple, the entire game can be completed in an afternoon. There are mild puzzles here and there, but nothing too difficult to actually stump you. A very fun part of the game is checking all of the items descriptions in Trashpedia, where BK describes everything he sucks in via his own raccoonish understanding. Those were the most hilarious bits of the game for me. Thank you BK, my life is saved now This is a game that's best experienced via playing rather than reading about it. All I can say is that I wholeheartedly recommend it. It is constantly on sale, it's not expensive by any means, it will take a max of 2 hours of your life playing it (and probably 1 hour if you speedrun it, why would you do that...) and it has that charm indie games are famous for. Also it has raccoons. Raccoons are awesome. THE GOOD: The charm of the game is top notch BK is the most adorable trash embodiment of Galactus destroyer of worlds All of the characters are fun Game is easy but not insultingly easy It will not take long to complete THE BAD: I wanted more of the hacker opossum counterpart of BK Recommendation - Cat Quest It's the same "feel good" type of game, although it's not puzzle focused. I'd otherwise probably recommend Untitled Goose Game...if the game didn't bug for me several times
Copanele
So uh...I tried playing Enslaved Odyssey to the West... In the course of 5 minutes, I had the following issues: Framerate drops so bad the entire game was a slideshow Monkey randomly disappearing during cutscenes (when I took back my equipment, I have no idea what I got on me, it was just an empty screen with sound effects) Monkey briefly disappearing during gameplay game crashed my PS3, had to manually reset it I have the digital version, reinstalling the game just made the game itself run worse 😅 tried other games (Castlevania LoS2 and some car game) and those work like a charm. From those who recommended me this game, did anyone else experience this? Because at this rate unfortunately I might have to cross this one off my PS3 list. Popular Post Copanele
A quick entry for a PS3 cleanup 💯 No. 78 - Jet Car Stunts Hardest Trophy - Easy does it - beat the Time Trial Easy A in under 1:48:00 Difficulty - 7/10 A game that I picked for the A-Z non-plat club event, Jet Car Stunts is a Trackmania-lite game where you control a car through a series of crazy tracks, trying your best to get to the finish. The catch of this game is that you have a "boost" button, where you can launch your car and control it mid-air, thus the name" Jet Car". I was surprised how smooth the controls were in this game. The car is very responsive, obeying to your every command. Whenever you fly off the track because you used the booster in the wrong way, it is most of the time your fault, not the car's. The game has 3 main modes: Platforming, where you have to get your car to point A to point B in 10 tries or less, tracks getting more and more difficult, with loops and suspended rings mid-track; Time Trial where you have to complete a 5 laps track in under a set amount of time; Collector where you have 5 stars scattered across a level, you having to use the car and all the physics available to collect those stars. For me, the hardest was Time Trial, mainly because I don't play racing games often. Getting the required times to qualify was a pain, although someone who played some races will have no problems completing them. The most relaxing of them all was Collector since there's no retry or time limit to get the pesky stars and the way you can manipulate the car is actually hilarious. Platforming was fun too, but some tracks were more headache than expected. Not much else to say about the game; If you want a silly PS3 toy car game with puzzles and physics, give this one a go. It doesn't even come close to the complexity of Trackmania, but it's some fun time...or at least it's a good J entry for the aforementioned event THE GOOD: Short but sweet game The tracks are well thought The car controls smoothly THE BAD: Game is pretty basic RECOMMENDATION - Trackmania The true king of Car Circus, if you want to zap through hoops and alley-oops at 500000KM/Hour, then this is the game to play. Popular Post Copanele
266 - Lies of P Platinum Name - Lies of P Hardest Trophy - Golden Melody - find and play all records Difficulty - 5/10 Fromsoftware's "Souls" series are some of the most iconic videogames in the past decade. From the Dark Souls series, to Bloodborne, Sekiro and the newly released, acclaimed and GOTY'ed Elden Ring, these games got a fame of their own. Obviously, many companies tried to emulate that success, but most of their games pale in comparison to the "Souls formula". Most of them focus solely on combat, throw in some cryptic "world's fucked we ain't telling you why" items and call it a day. I believe that other than Salt&Sanctuary, no other soulslike game came even close to what makes Fromsoftware games great. Until now...buckle up everyone, because Lies of P finally cracked the code, figured the mystery and got its hand stuck into the Adaptability jar. This game finally understood what makes "Souls" games great, took the idea, molded it and created something short of a masterpiece. This game was so good that I couldn't believe it right until the end when I saw the end credits and the epilogue. And the shocking part - this is the first game of its kind developed by Neowiz Games and Round 8 Studios. I am absolutely shocked but also immensely pleased that they actually sat down and UNDERSTOOD the concept. But what makes Dark Souls/Bloodborne/Elden Ring this great? In my opinion, it's not only the combat and the tough but fair bosses. For me, what makes these Fromsoftware games great is the atmosphere and the world building. It's not Ornstein and Smough that made Dark Souls great, it's the fact that you, the average schmuck with a rusty sword, manages to crawl like the ultimate cockroach in a world filled with deadly zombies and mad powerful gods and somehow sit at the top. It's not Malenia that makes Elden Ring amazing, it's the fact that you get tasked by a random girl to beat some demigods into submission, you get a stupid horse and you're told to fuck off wherever you feel like. It's this whole stew of beautiful but oppressive setting + unique way of telling a story + tough but fair encounters where there's multiple solutions to one problem, that make the games be as loved. And that's exactly where Lies of P succeeds - starting with our main protagonist Pinocchio...or let's call him P for now. The winner of "become a real boy!" program For those few that don't know, Pinocchio is a story about a wooden puppet that struggles to become a real boy. This game takes that plot and twists it in a Bloodbornesque way. In the great city of Krat, people figured out how to make animated dolls, basically automatons, with a special substance called Ergo. With this, Krat became an industrial superpower, where all the labor was done by the puppets while people were thriving. However, in one day, every puppet in the city went rogue and starting hacking away their masters, turning the city into an utter nightmare. You are the last puppet, unaffected by the puppet frenzy. A mysterious girl Sophia wakes you up and urges you to find Gepetto, the original puppet maker, and discover what caused the puppets to go crazy in the first place. Obviously, the puppets won't recognize you as one of their own, so you'd better deal with the whole madness while you're at it. Do ye have a permit for this area, boy? The first sign that the devs understood what they have to do is seen from the first time you leave the train where you were sleeping and enter in the actual city: Krat is an absolute marvel of a destroyed city, similar to Yharnam from Bloodborne (abit TOO similar - more on that later). The Victorian setting works wonders for a puppet frenzy, giving an extra layer of creepiness to each of these deranged automatons. You can see the horrors everywhere you go and you truly feel that yeah...shit's pretty bad! Luckily, P is a puppet that had the latest "combat pack" model installed into him, so he is very proficient at fighting. The combat in this game is a mix between Bloodborne and Sekiro, where you have a large array of weapons, from small but quick daggers to slow heavy hitting wrenches that can stagger a puppet in one hit. You can block with these weapons, but it's a technique that won't last you long, since blocking makes you lose a portion of "regenerative" health, this health being recovered by attacking back (the rallying system from Bloodborne). However, if you time your blocking right before the attack strikes you, you can parry attacks Sekiro style. Parrying is way more useful than simply blocking, because not only does it stagger the enemy, but you also have a chance of breaking the enemy's weapon. Bosses included! The combat has truly been treated with great care, P is very fluid with his attacks, which is required because...oh boy are the enemies tricky in this game. If you're not on your guard, they'll rip you to shreds instantly. Given all the variety of weapons, you have multiple ways of approaching combat, each tailored for every type of player. I can't believe how much fun I had with a self-imposed BONK build, where I simply pumped points into health, carry weight and strength and proceeded to sweep the streets with a huge swordspear, Nameless King style. For those more focused on sneaking, they have a wide array of daggers, rapiers, katanas and such. Sadly there's no magic in this game but those who want to go "elemental" they can focus on electric sticks, fire daggers, aciding hammers or even various throwables that are really potent now. And finally, for those who feel abit more "exotic". P comes equipped with a legion arm, a robotic mechanism that allows you to do various unique attacks from stringing puppets with a hard steel wire, shooting flames, shooting a gun or even creating an actual shield to protect you Dark Souls style. The most unique mechanic that no other Souls or Soulslike game has is the ability to mix any blade with any hilt from the weapons you own. Say you have a circular saw with a long handle. You can detach that handle and put the saw on a short hammer's handle. It will transform your weapon from a long but slow buzzsaw to a short quick minisaw that will make quick work of anything is near you. Or you can put a stupid electric coil on a police baton and go spread justice throughout the city. Or hell, get that nice fire dagger, strap it on a spear stick and poke fire from afar. This mechanic is endlessly fun, there's so many silly ways to experiment with weapons in this game, I couldn't even cover them all in my 2 playthroughs. And of course, let's not forget about boss weapons. Each boss that you fight drops their Ergo and you can convert that Ergo into the classic boss weapons. Hint - they're equally demanding and powerful. Every boss weapon is an absolute powerhouse with their unique abilities, so you definitely want to get your hands on them. There's a lot of options there and all of them work equally well. Truly, there's no wrong way of fighting in this game. The "Get over here" moment from the trailer. Yep that's definitely a viable tactic The combat is great, but that's not why I love the game. The reason this game is so great for me is because of the story, its characters and the ability to lie. P is not like the other puppets. P is a character that has its own agency, its own free will and can do whatever he desires. Which means, unlike the other puppets, P can also lie when needed, which is an unique mechanic that is the focus of the game. Normally in the story Pinocchio's nose grows whenever he lies, but isn't lying an ability unique to humans? And isn't Pinocchio's aim to become more human? This is the part that made me fall in love with the game. P can lie his way through and interact with the other characters in a way no others can. He is unique in this bleak world, he's trapped between being a puppet and being human-like. It's only with your decisions throughout the game that you decide whether to "be a good boy" or follow your own convictions. Every other character is amazing in its own rights. Sophia, your "Maiden in Black" that levels you up is also a mysterious girl that slowly reveals her past the more you advance throughout the story (and she easily beats every firekeeper in the Souls games, hot take I know). Venigni the brilliant inventor that promoted the city of Krat looks like a pompous buffoon but is also a great man with a great heart that is always eager to help. Lady Antonia and her puppet butler Polendina offer you insight about the Krat Hotel, your base of operations and the only safe haven in the devastated city. You even find the mischievous Fox and her brother Cat, always up to no good and with a hidden backstory. And of course...Geppetto. You'll love Geppetto. Who doesn't love Geppetto? Of course, I won't get into spoiler territory, but the more you advance throughout the story the more disturbing things get, to the point where a mere puppet frenzy is preferable to the true horrors that the city hide. And again, the more you advance the more disturbing everything gets. Play and you shall see Truly the fairest blue fairy I really struggle to say anything bad about this game really. If there's only one downside...it's the fact that they copied Bloodborne a bit too much. I know it's expected from a new company and let's be honest, they copied one of the best games ever made, but the game truly gets his own identity after you're 50% in. The first half of the game will feel a bit "Bloodborne 2.0". Also there's a severe lack of optional areas to explore, although I can't complain too much. Lies of P is a linear game but in the context of the story it makes sense. You only have one optional area that is unlocked via a semi-obscure sidequest, but it's nothing too big. Honestly, I'll stop the review here, because I start to get into the "this game is great because it's great and that's what makes it great" mood. Simply put, Lies of P is the best parts of Bloodborne and Sekiro, and if you loved those games then this game is a no-brainer. If you played the abysmal demo, ignore all that, the devs patched, tweaked, cleaned and oiled every single gear, to the point where I was still not believing that the game is THAT GOOD. The game did not lie to me one bit, it's pure quality through and through. Even the endings managed to impress me, the bad ending was especially bad and got me into "they simply can't do that man, it's not fair..." which I quickly fixed by going after the best ending. The game has 3 endings, all depending on how good of a liar you are, so be careful what you pick 😆 As for me...this is not just a great game. This is a game that makes me glad that I play videogames. This gets the highest awards out there from my side. I rarely find a game that can keep me this invested from start to finish. I'll take a short break, finish a couple more games and then fire up the PS4 version. I played through this game twice, NG+ brings so much new stuff (NieR players will LOVE the second playthrough) so yeah, I am pretty sure of my ranking. This game is pure quality. Well done devs! Still can't believe it. Glad I bought this game physical, it deserves no less. THE GOOD: The game's atmosphere and the city of Krat tells me that the developers understood the Souls formula The combat is top notch A story that rivals the source material A huge amount of solutions to the problems the game throws at you I could find no major issue with the game from start to finish NG+ and NG++ adds new content for their respective playthroughs The Krat Hotel is by far the best hub in Souls games You can change the hotel's music via gramophone by collecting various records Sophia There's no truly bad boss in this game The epilogue donkey kicks you out of nowhere The lying mechanic is actually implemented smart in this game and offers you different rewards depending on your choices The fact that you can mix weapon handles and blades creates endless amount of fun and mayhem THE "NITPICK" because I have to write something here: It copied abit too much from Bloodborne in the first half of the game the game slightly favors Motivity builds maybe an extra optional area? Recommendation - Bloodborne The main source of inspiration and the OG that won't leave PS4 and 30 FPS 😂 Bloodborne is the textbook definition of masterpiece Edited February 2 by Copanele
jonesey46
I've marked this to come back to cause I'm trying to avoid any possible spoilers for this one. it's sitting on my shelf right now and I'm planning on playing very shortly. Super excited for it too! I promise to come back and read once I've played it myself 😊

I didn't cover spoilers in the post, but still, read it after you're done with the game Hope you'll have as much fun as I had
Platinum_Vice
Wow. GOTY and it's only January. Glad you liked it. Pinocchio is such a rich and archetypical story about stepping out of your father's shadow to become your own man, and about the power of authenticity and Will to Power. Was this expressed in the game?

Nice to see the Nations shoutout as well, that one's always a classic. 😎 On 1/22/2024 at 4:04 AM, Copanele said: The most unique mechanic that no other Souls or Soulslike game has is the ability to mix any blade with any hilt from the weapons you own. I find it pretty funny how with other games being comparable to Dark Souls, someone came up with endearing term "Soulslike", with it being a widely agreed upon appreciation... Yet when it comes to other game genres or series out there, you find fans who rip each other apart at the notion of one being "similar" to another like it's a bad thing! 😂 Dark Souls fans EMBRACE inspiration from others! It's bizarrely awesome how Souls games and Heavy Metal music are considered hardcore from outside audiences, yet their fans are somehow the most wholesome! 😂
Popular Post Copanele
267 - Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection (Uncharted 4: A Thief's End + Unncharted: Lost Legacy) Platinum Name - A thief's legacy Hardest Trophy - Butterfingers - make 10 enemies drop their grenades Difficulty - 3/10 Finally, the saga is complete. I have finished every main Uncharted game in the series, minus the Golden Abyss one because I don't have a Vita. A quick recap: I started Uncharted 1 because I was curious about this famous Sony exclusive series. The game was fine, average treasure hunting experience with lots of shooting, Nate was interesting enough, nothing to write home about. Then I started Uncharted 2, the jewel of the series and...I hated it so much (mainly because Nathan Drake was an absolute dickhead here) that it had the opposite effect it would have to most people: it made me want to complete this series out of spite. Uncharted 3 however took me by surprise, mainly because people said it's bad....which it really wasn't. Sure, it had plot holes the size of Grand Canyon, but at this point these games are just jokes that you play to have a good time. Finally, we reached Uncharted 4...the PS5 version because I am not about that multiplayer. And Lost Legacy. The final entry in the Nathan Drake saga. After thousands of killed goons, collectibles and sunken cities...the adventure is over. Did this final game raise to the expectations that I have? Or did it fall short? Honestly I thought the game was great, but it had some problems that prevented me from enjoying it to its fullest. (swear to god I can never get along with Naughty Dog games) Anyway let's start with the main game: UNCHARTED 4 - A THIEF'S RETIREMENT So, our buddy here Nate is done with treasure hunting. Regular worker at a diving&salvage company, married to one of the best female characters in videogames and the only woman who can keep up with his stupid antics Elena, Nate has it all set apparently. Job, family, console with the worst platformer in existence....and boredom. Lots and lots of boredom. Apparently, you can't simply extract the adrenaline out of a man like that. Poor Nate is caged by all this and he's missing the thrill, the danger, the hunt, even if he himself denies it. But when his thought-to-be-dead brother Sam shows up to his work and tells him of the long lost treasure of pirate Henry Avery, a dream they've both chased since they were kids, Nathan gets animated against his will. Add in some dangerous cartel bosses, an old treasure hunter partner/rival and his best friend Sully in the mix and we're back in business Sully. There's only one slight issue: Elena might not like this, but Drake will figure it out once he gets to that point. I have to say, the start of this game is way slower than the other games, but I don't really mind it. Game takes its time by running you through all the stuff Nathan did before, including a childhood section from the orphanage he grew in, and that's a pretty good setup, to make you understand just how much he misses the thrill of the adventure. First note however, the very first thing that this game hits me with - holy damn is Uncharted 4 beautiful!! A Thief's Creed (also my Photo Mode skills suck) Now, while I like pretty games, I don't necessary focus on graphics as the main point of interest. Not here lol! This game looks so good that it actually makes you wish you were there to enjoy the sights. From Italy to Scotland, Madagascar and the tropical islands, this game is an absolute marvel to look at. I really wonder how much did the devs spend making all that because dear god this really feels next gen! There we go, a better screenshot taken by someone else Of course, "next-gen" means we can't hiccup our way up the mountains the old fashioned way, so Nathan has all of his mountain climbing skills fully upgraded. Now you can do full strings of hopping and grabbing without catching a break, unless the game forces you to with a scripted event. Since the traversal is more tricky now, Nathan has a very useful grappling hook that allows him to swing himself over various pits and mountains, or solve various puzzles that involve dragging boxes around. In true Naughty Dog fashion however, Drake conveniently forgets that he has the grappling hook whenever the plot requires him to. That's fine, it's not like this series had any consistency in the first place A good trip requires good company and here Uncharted 4 nails it again. There's no treasure hunting in Uncharted without Victor Sullivan, and here Sully is at his peak, more enjoyable than ever. He's always approaching everything with a calm and "these damn kids" attitude that makes him my favorite in the game. The newest addition to the mix however is Nate's long lost brother - Sam Drake. I can't believe they could create an idiot bigger than Nate 😂 The dynamic duo For reasons you'll see in the story, Sam has spent most of his life in prison, dreaming about the big pirate Henry Avery's treasure. Therefore, Sam is like a child, hunting for the shiny stuff, disregarding everyone else including Nate, but with that particular innocence where he doesn't understand what he's doing wrong. He constantly gets the gang into trouble and at some point he's more dangerous than the actual villains of the story just by being a dumbass but somehow it was fun to see these 2 guys sharing the one braincell they have and find out the fabled treasure. As for villains...meh. The usual villainous villain with some silly motivation, resembling Uncharted 1. The mercenary leader Nadine is kicking abit of ass but she doesn't appear that often in the story to matter, while Rafe, Drake brothers' former partner in crime, is a spoiled brat eager for some glory. They're just cannon fodder for Terminator Drake to handle. Regarding combat, the shooting in this game looks better but feels pretty much the same. Which is a good thing, Naughty Dog knows how to make a decent third person shooter, reinventing the wheel wasn't necessary. There's a bigger focus on the stealth sections, which is pretty satisfying (and realistic lol) but the actual gun encounters suffered a bit - they weren't as enjoyable as in the previous games. There's a lot more destructible items around, Nate can't just turtle behind a wooden box for an infinite amount of time, and that slowly adds to the frustration in the later levels. Enemies are more trigger happy than ever and they throw grenades like there was a discount at the grenade store. Overall, while the gameplay itself was good, the encounters kinda tired me after a while. If there's something that Uncharted 2 did well, it was the combat encounters. In that game I never got tired of shooting Lazarevic's idiots. I swear this treasure AIN'T WORTH IT This game introduces a great deal of "semi-exploration", large open spaces where you can just go around and "admire". And this is where I have an issue. During my first playthrough, I felt that something was missing from the game. Only during the Crushing playthrough did I realize it - this game feels a bit too bloated. First half of the game - Italy, Scotland, Madagascar, game was fantastic, I loved it, it was enjoyable as hell. Second half however, when I go treasure hunting on some remote islands...boredom started to appear. The game felt a bit too long, I got sick of the neverending jungle at some point and in the final stretch of the game I was just rushing towards the end because I liked the story a lot and I started to not care about the gameplay anymore. At some point I was even dreading having to go through a speedrun again, but thankfully glitches were there to save my ass once again, helping me with popping the trophies that would normally require me to play the game 2 more times. Thanks, glitch community! That asshole is the king of sending people on a wild goose chase There's one last bit I would like to say about this game, which is a personal take - I like playing as a pirate in videogames. However, I don't like searching for pirate treasures. Compared to El Dorado, Shambala and Iram of the Pillars, having to find the fabled "city of pirates Libertalia" and "the greatest pirate treasure around" felt like some silly sidequest in Skyrim where you have to recover a Draugr helmet right after you defeated Alduin the Eater of Worlds. Like, ok, there's lots of money involved and Henry Avery's treasure was the childhood dream of the Drakes, but man...I can't compare this pocket change to goddamn Shambala!! Or any other lost civilization. Again, I do understand the whole story behind it, but it's just a silly thought in my head: if I were to pick between 2 discoveries, I'd say a hidden city under the sands is way more impressive than some pirate booty. Might be just me. But overall...I think this was the best Uncharted I have played out there. It has its flaws, it still didn't blow my socks off(mainly because I wasn't the target audience), but...it was good. Acceptable. Fun, even. Yeah ok I'll give it a pass. If you reached this point in the series, might as well play the damn thing THE GOOD: Game looks good as hell! The relationship between Nate, Elena, Sully and Sam How Nate has to deal with early retirement Stealth is solid The ending is probably one of the best endings to a major series, I absolutely loved it! First half of the game THE BAD: Second half of the game is kinda boring Pirate treasure ain't as impressive as a hidden civilization No villain beats Lazarevic A bit too long, jungle levels get especially boring Bruh why are there so many collectibles in the game wtf It forces you to play Crash Bandicoot and that's a sin I cannot forgive Recomme-- HOLD UP A MINUTE I forgot to talk about one game here! (didn't really, but it's for pause effect) This Legacy of Thieves collection that I picked up because honestly screw the PS4 Multiplayer DLC stuff I ain't got time for that bullshit, comes with the DLC turned stand alone game turned DLC Lost Legacy, where you play as Chloe Frazier and her newest bodyguard/partner Nadine, the villain from Uncharted 4. I admit I had some reservations about this entry, feared it would be a bit meh, forced even. Will these 2 girls be able to replace Nathan "I eat hair gel for breakfast" Drake? Well the fool that I was...yep they did. This game was fucking AWESOME! The most unexpected partners in crime So, a quick rundown - fan favorite Chloe, who is not tied down by family obligations like Nathan, aims to find the Tusk of Ganesh, a priceless historical item held by a famous Indian empire called the Hoysala. Since Chloe ain't as insane as Nathan, she asks for protection from a mercenary, introducing Nadine, freshly sent into early retirement because of her run-in with the Drakes. With no job and no options, Nadine accepts Chloe's offer and together they go and search for this fabled artifact, chased by the local insurrection leader Azad who wants the same thing. I did not expect to like this game this much! Truly, this game was too big to be a DLC, but it feels more like an expansion pack rather than a full game. With only 9 chapters compared to the usual 22+ chapters of the main games, Lost Legacy is forced to focus on the important details during its runtime. And I'd say this was to their advantage, because it's the first time I enjoyed an Uncharted game from start to finish without complaining. I'd compare this to Witcher 3 Blood and Wine expansion in terms of extra content. This is a solid game right here. Time for adventure!!!! First of all, if Uncharted 4 amazed me with its graphics, well Lost Legacy blew my socks off. Holy CRAP IS THIS GAME BEAUTIFUL WHAT THE HELL DID NEIL DRUCKMANN TIED THE GRAPHIC DESIGNERS UP AND FORCED THEM TO DO THIS? This game looks IMPECCABLE! Every landscape, every ruin, every single hop and skip that you have to do looks like it's been microscopically designed to be there. It feels like an actual historical tour. Another proof that when big studios go small, you get some shining masterpieces right there that shouldn't be this good!. This game even forced me to use Photo Mode! I, for one, kinda dislike photo mode, I rarely use the feature and I am not that good with pictures. Woo boy not in this one, I took pictures over pictures and tried to catch some fun frames. Failed miserably but my god this game makes me want to go travel somewhere Girls' day out Moving from the whole graphics thing...let's talk about Chloe, treasure hunter extraordinaire and Nathan's former love interest. Chloe shines in this game by actually being competent at what he does. Let's be real, the reason why I will never put Nathan Drake above gods like Indiana Jones is because the buffoon stumbles and bumbles himself out of situations, only relying on his luck. Yes he has his doodles and a brain full of trivia but man, it gets boring to see the "I lucked this out" 1000 times. Well, Chloe came prepared baby. Maps, phone to take pictures, clues, hiring protection, this girl is all about business, she ain't gonna let some RNG god dictate how she goes about her journey. Sure, she has the "damn how did I survive this" moments, but Chloe feels like an actually competent treasure hunter that deserves her spoils. Also, since Chloe ain't the "all brawn no brain" girl, she can't fight as well as Drake. All of her encounters are more focused on stealth, which makes sense. Don't get me wrong, Chloe can use all the arsenal that Nate has in U4, but believe me when I say that her strongest gun is the silencer pistol 😂 And now...let's turn to the main star of the show.. Nadine. In Uncharted 4, Nadine was "a goon, but woman". Sorry that's how I saw her, many praised her as being a badass for kicking Nathan around, but to be real the idiot Nate has 0 combat experience and he fought against a mercenary leader who lived all her life by waging war. Well, in Lost Legacy, Nadine gets one whole ass character arc, by being an actually curious and knowledgeable woman with a hidden desire for adventure, burdened by her mercenary life. She's a walking animal Wikipedia and it was absolutely hilarious to see her pointing out animal trivia and baffle Chloe with all that random knowledge. The best part of the game is seeing Chloe and Nadine enjoying themselves It's the first time I will also praise the villain here - Azad. Azad is your usual revolutionary "I will liberate the people by killing the people" mad man, but my god this time he's actually competent. He has several encounters with Chloe and Nadine and dear god he trashes them around. Azad is actually a competent villain and it takes the combined efforts of Chloe, Nadine and a third character that I won't name to bring him down. He's still goofy, but at least he is actually dangerous. Another beautiful point I want to mention here is Chapter 4 of the game, where Chloe and Nadine have to find 3 separate towers in a large area and activate some mechanisms in order to open another huge gate. This is the "freeroam" level and I absolutely loved it. You could go to the tower in the middle of the area and check for points of interest OR you could just stumble on the towers by reading the map that you have. OR you can say "Fuck that, treasure hunting time" and just roam around and complete a treasure subquest that is absolutely hilarious and gets you an actual treasure radar. I loved this chapter, it was so enjoyable to play, littered with puzzles, platforming and random conversations between the girls. Finally, I'd have to say that having only 9 chapters benefitted this game greatly. No wasted time, no random ass wild goose chase at the ends of the world, just fun, exploration and discovery. Heck, I think this is my favorite Uncharted game actually. Yeah, I really have no complaints for Lost Legacy, people can actually play it without caring about the other games THE GOOD: the chemistry between Chloe and Nadine is what makes this game work actual fun exploration Chloe feels like a competent treasure hunter Nadine has more development here compared to Uncharted 4 Stealth is more fun in this game damn this game looks beautiful WTF! 9 chapters are more than enough to make a great experience THE BAD: Why did I have to play through 4 games to truly say I enjoyed myself with the 5th one? 😂 RECOMMENDATION - travelling I think everyone deserves a break after playing these games. So, depending on your budget, pick a SAFE travelling location and just go and stretch your legs a bit heck, visit a museum even. Just don't go into any dangerous jungles, or pick a fight with the local insurgents....or lie to your wife/husband. Just saying
