[EVENT] PSNP Kaleidoscope Challenge! 2023 [ENDED]

Been a while since I updated because I haven't made much progress. All the platinums I've been doing have such bland tiles!

 

I have Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion lined up and that will fit nicely into green.

I had a blast planning and platting for this event. For my final three plats I decided to go with The Artful Escape, Hogwarts Legacy and Dredge.

 

The Artful Escape

 

Hot take coming through, please be gentle ?.It took me 100 hours to plat Death Stranding. Several hours of random forum post research to understand how to plat Rogue Legacy 2.  Freaking out because I thought my Hogwarts Legacy progress was glitched 50 hours in.

 

None of this was worse than the 4 hours I had playing The Artful Escape. I have nothing against games that follow this type of artistic approach or storytelling, but this was easily my least enjoyable gaming experience in recent memory ?.

 

Hogwarts Legacy

 

Not much to say about this one that others already haven't. Amazing first half followed by a more mediocre second. Still loved every second of it.

 

Dredge

 

Ohhhh boy what a gem. I was stalking the price for this game hoping it'd go on sale. Luckily for me I checked the Playstation Stars rewards and found that this game could be purchased with points. Worth blowing all of my points to play this, definitely a 10/10 indie game with a great story and platinum experience.

 

Now to do this all again and start round 2!!! ?

100% forgot I had signed up to this earlier in the year! Well never to late for a first update. I'm a bit torn with some of these colours so I apologize if some are unacceptable. I'm absolutely up for suggestions on how to change things around!

 

Also, is there a better way to use PS5 thumbnails without them being all stretched and distorted?

WRC 5
Not a whole lot to say about this one, you just race some rallys a bunch of times. Trophy list is much easier than WRC7, which I completed on my first card, due to there being no grindy trophies. Not bad at all for a game that cost a whole 99cents.

 

Resident Evil: Village Winter's Expansion DLC

This DLC was fine, I would have liked a few new areas or something because it was just the exact same map as the base game.

15/16 buuuuuud! May have been another color closer if I hadn't gotten entirely hung up on another game (for the second card, I guess haha!) but I'm happy to have finally played Paper Beast for Pink! This is definitely a game I've had in my backlog for a long time, and like a lot of games I end up sitting on I can't help but feel like 'man I should've played this one sooner'. It's exactly what a PSVR - or any VR - game should be: a game with visuals and gameplay that can't be replicated or done better outside of VR. There's a mess of games that are exclusively VR that could have just as easily been a regular game, but I'm not really sure that Paper Beast would have the same impact without it. If you saved it as a part of PS Plus a million years ago, I definitely recommend getting your PSVR out of that box in your closet and giving it a go! Just make sure you pay attention to the Sandbox tutorial unlike yours truly who spent like an hour scouring the internet for a solution to a non-problem.

My guess would be pink and maybe purple if I really want to stretch it?

So.... I completed another game!

 

 

Dungeon Hunter Alliance is my new Red (it has transparent background).  This game was special to me, I started playing it 11 years ago. It's a wallmart diablo game, but at the time, lots of people were playing and you could have a blast with other players, I spent hours and hours playing online. The platinum ask you to complete the game with the three available classes: Rogue, Mage and Warrior. The game isn't long, but the gameplay is VERY different from one class to the other; Rogue is amazing to play, fast combos that get enemies destroyed in seconds. Warrior is a bit worse, he is slower but gets the job done properly. And mage.... is awful, the AOE of the spells is so broken that you can throw a meteor on the head of an enemy and the game won't recognize the attack just because).

 

Anyway, this time I decided to play it for some free hours between Baldur's gate 3 sessions and I ended up with a new platinum. I even managed to make a new psn friend who happened to also be playing for the platinum!!

 

With this, only two games remain for my rainbow goal, probably will start them after the summer.

Haha, yeah, I'm struggling with Green myself. 

How did you find Tunche? I got the platinum for it last year; so couldn't use it for this event. 

I thought it was fine, but it definitely dragged a bit. I was also a bit unlucky with the Story events. Had to replay the game 4-5 times extra to finish them up.

I enjoyed it but I also felt it dragged a bit with certain characters (hat kid and Qaru)

As for the Story events, they all can appear in one run so I save scummed the stuff but overall it was a fun experience.

Screw the log shrimps though!

That ... that makes a lot of sense about the save scumming. I wish I'd have thought of that! 

 

I did about half a dozen unnecessary runs in the end. Sigh.

I can very highly recommend Viewfinder if you dig a puzzle game, or the DLC for Cuphead would work for green....

....or, I know you've been known to enjoy an indie rogue like, so I reckon you might dig Void Bastard, which is quite an underplayed little comedic, rogue-like FPS gem!

Ah, thanks for the suggestions. I did consider Cuphead DLC, as I loved the original. I've also seen Void Bastards in quite a few sales, but always been fearful of picking it up because I've heard it's pretty difficult (and I suuuuck at FPS games). 

 

I've actually just finished off 60 Seconds! Reatomized, which I think will pass for one of my greens:



Part of me thinks that most of the tile is darkish green, but the sky is so close to the actual colour of the Light Green on the template, that I might go with that instead. And, if I can complete it, my other Green is probably going to be Curious Expeditions 2: 

 

 

A slam dunk for Green really, but it's a grind. And an Ultra Rare, so I'm predicting there's going to be some difficulty spikes.

Funny that about Void Bastards - I wouldn't actually say it's difficult particularly (and I'm similarly bad at FPS!) - at least, I don't recall it being hard - but it does have a bit of a pain in the butt grind for a few of the trophies though. There's a fair few runs that are just a bit silly (no weapon type runs).

Yeah, I think I saw some Hard no-death runs, and I thought – not for me! I'm guessing you can get around that with save scumming though? 
 

I think with 60 Seconds, I'll probably replace it if I end up completing something that's more fitting. I probably won't do multiple cards. I like the idea of Prestige, but I'd probably prefer to have one really pretty-looking Kaleidoscope than try and shoe-horn all the games I've played into a second card on the basis that they just scrape by haha.

Almost certainly.... though as I recall, I don't think you'd actually need to much  - from what I remember, the trick to the game on higher difficulties is just stealthiness, or running like the wind and being outta there before the enemies even fire on you, depending on which perks you end up rolling!

 (I assure you this isn't a flex, because - as I always say: I'm bad at videogames, and have no problem at all admitting my struggles!)

Not too much progress on my end, though I'm quite happy with my new additions all the same!

 

Final Fantasy IX is stepping in for White, and I can't tell you how happy I am that I just put my head down and did the stupid jump rope thing, once that was done I could experience this spectacular game for the first time since it came out over twenty fuckin years ago. I mentioned before how wild it was to think that when I first played this game, I was Zidane's age. Now I'm older than Steiner? the perspective change was evident every so often, namely with Baku talkin about how hot Garnet is. Back then I was like "yeah, she's a cutie!" and this time I was like "....you're gross."

 

Second up is Ghost of Tsushima's Legends Mode DLC, which I started well over two years ago and only recently picked back up. It really is a lot of fun, and a fantastic concept to bring this addictive game into the multiplayer sphere. The leveling up process can be pretty tedious, and those Raid chapters are no joke, so to finally have this wrapped up feels pretty great. This guy is gonna take my Red slot.

 

 

Almost done!! I'm pretty sure my only yellow image games are Mortal Kombat and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, so one will be finishing this card, and the other will go on my second, which to my surprise is already shaping up pretty decently as well!

 

Anyway, thanks for listening to all my blabbin, and big up to all the peeps killin this challenge. Just hopin I can catch up??

So... yeah.

 

I know that this event still has four months to go, guys, but I have been in the dark for almost a month due to having to juggle two MMOs, so in order to get something, I... ended up with a visual novel about very sexy ladies running a Japanese idol cafe. (You know, those places where young men can go to get pampered by women wearing revealing French maid outfits. Japan is not very scrupulous about its sexism. )

 

Anyways, Ichigo's hair was blonde so I decided, **** it, I'm just putting this in because Pikachu is just as over-popularized due to being the mascot for Pokemon itself.

 

So... yeah. My second card is getting infected by cheap games. At least it isn't as bad as my first card which was 70% shovelware.

 

I'll probably put something big like FFXII on White to finish up this card.
