The original version of MediEvil is coming to PlayStation Plus Premium, apparently

A PS4 trophy list for MediEvil just synced onto this site, seemingly for a forthcoming release of the original PS1 version onto PS Plus Premium, potentially this month. I think it's an incredibly odd choice for a PS1 classic, since we already have two versions of this game on modern PlayStation platforms already, including the 2019 remake that outright includes this exact version as an unlockable.

 

Trophies look to be incredibly similar to the 2019 version, right down to the trophy names. The only major difference seems to be the removal of any trophies related to the Lost Souls side quest, since that doesn't exist in the original. That alone should significantly reduce the time investment required for this game's trophies.

Considering that resurrection was reimagining of this game and PS4 is a proper remake. I'm convinced that Sony will do everything except port Medievil 2 just to spite us.

 

Dan takes his head off in number 2 and it explodes as a standard weapon... why do sony hide this from us.

 

(Mind you, an excuse to play the game again without the borderline racist genie is appreciated)

Now we have MediEvil (Remake), MediEvil Resurrection and the original MediEvil.

 

I guess MediEvil 2 will be release as PS1 Classic soon.

This feels like a pointless addition to me since you can already play the PS1 version of the game in the remake, but oh well. I really hope they're doing this just because they also want to add Medievil 2

Given we had the PSP version released on PS Plus Premium, it makes sense to add the original games from PS1. Medievil 2 better come too!

I hate to be a drama queen but this pretty much confirms to me I’m gonna cancel my membership and definitely not renew Premium.

I'm loving all these old games returning!

I just don't like how some of this stuff is being tied behind PS+ Premium though - I hope one day everything can just be purchased À la carte / standalone.

MediEvil (2019) includes the original PS1 version, and this time they may have simply extracted the original version and included it in PlayStation Plus Premium.

The trophy tiles for this one are terrible in comparison to the remake. I'm still gonna play it though because MediEvil is the shit, but still a shame.

As much as I really want that, I would think the likelihood of that happening is pretty low given the whole Microsoft owning Crash and Spyro thing.

The weird thing is that those particular three games (plus CTR) belongs to Sony Interactive. While the IP belongs to Microsoft. So I don’t know what would be the legal issues if Sony wants to release them on PS Store.
