Have you been looked down upon because of trophies?

Well, I don't have friends IRL or otherwise but back when I did the general response was ''videogamez r 4 boiz, y wud u do tht?''

One girl even had a GBA but would never admit it because apparently lads don't find girls playing games attractive and that's all that matters in life.

I do sometimes feel like I'm looked down upon in this forum because my Platinum count is not as high as others' though.

I tend to keep my gaming business to myself, so not really to be honest. People who i play with or RLF are gamers themselves, although not all of them are trophy hunters, the ones that are not do not criticize or look down upon it but rather see it as something that requires some dedication from a person.

My wife always gives me patronizing looks when I talk about Trophies but she's a gamer also and she's slowly starting to care. Worst thing is we share the PS4 so sometimes her Trophy hunting stops my own. Maybe I should dissuade her from the idea, but then she'd just spend hours running around aimlessly killing civilians in Watch_Dogs instead! Do I like Trophy hunting enough to buy a second PS4 for her so I get my space!? Hmmmm..... to be rich is the dream!

I certainly don't care how many trophies you have but I do look down on you simply because it appears you are actually a cat and that puts you very low to the ground compared to my human form.

im a gamer not a hunter so if im with my friends and the topic turns to games then we talk about the latest releases or what we're playin as opposed to huntin but for the gamers out there who consider themselves hunters i can get that theres an attitude towards it and gamin in general...

aslong as you work/study, socialise, are normal and gamin isnt all you do then theres nothin wrong with that...

I haven't had this  problem since I really don't tell any of my friends about it. All of my friends aren't really trophy hunters and they just mostly mess around on CoD or Battlefield multiplayer all of the time. But I guess someone's got to prove their worth somewhere. I guess just as wee put our time into trophies, the others put their somewhere else, such as stats r something.

At first, a lot of my friends didn't get it, and thought it was a waste of time.

I just always explain it like this; by trophy hunting, you get the most out of a game. Most trophy lists require you experience every aspect of the game at least once, and sometimes even master every aspect of the game. Since it generally takes much more time to plat a game than it does to just beat it, you're getting a better value out of games by trophy hunting.

Of course, there are other reasons why I trophy hunt, but whenever I explain it like that, people can't really argue against it anymore, because it's true and money is a reason that's understandable by basically everyone.

Not really. I used to have on going trophy completion competion with friends where we would have prizes for most trophies, platinums and hardest plat achieved. We stopped and now only look down upon one who gets a game solely for an super quick and easy plat trophy

It's not so much trophy hunting that makes people look at me weird, but the games in which I have some trophies can turn heads.  "Oh, you are getting trophies in PlayStation Home?!"  "Everyone has the plats for The Sly Collection."  But other than that, it's not really a big deal.

To be honest, the idea of achievements/trophies/badges etc will become the norm for everyone in the next 10 years and you'll be like 'hey remember that time when people looked at us funny for talking with passion about trophies?! fools!'

Alot of the way we do things as humans is going to be 'gamified'.

You'll be earning achievements at work, you'll be earning points and achievements for buying things at stores online and physical (alot of companies already do this). Many big companies nowadays have programs called 'gamification' initiatives which ask questions like 'how can we turn the work place into a structured game with game-like objectives and milestones?'. Companies will have (some already do) their own achievement systems which earn you work-related perks and level-ups, unlocking prizes, time off and free stuff.

Once things like the Oculus Rift and it's competitor tech is mass produced, it will be about 5 years before someone has turned those big-ass goggles into contact lenses. So our lives will pretty much have a continuous heads-up display. None of it is certain. But you can see a few potential directions all of this will go in.

For me - the ideas in this video are one of the most possible futures we are looking at:
