This challenge is going to take some precision and a little bit of luck. If you're intrigued and feel like rolling the dice, here's the plan: We're going to pop a plat when the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve Does that get your attention? Here's the rules: What's the goal here? You're going to plat a game right when the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve in your location, so that the time stamp for the plat falls anywhere between 12:00:00 AM and 12:00:59 AM on January 1st, 2016. As long as the first four digits of the time say 12:00 AM and the date is Jan 1st of the new year, you're good. (For you folks on the 24 hour clock, add 12 hours) What games are eligible? Anything with a platinum trophy, and yes, you can groom it ahead of time so all you need to do is one thing at the appointed hour. Play a Telltale game, visual novel, cross-save Sound Shapes, whatever you feel like as long as you can get that sucker to pop between 12:00:00 AM and 12:00:59 AM. Can I use someone else's save file or a save file from my second console for a game that doesn't have cross-save? Considering as how that's against Sony's Terms of Use, I'm gonna say...no. Seriously, don't do it, you'll get kicked out and be known as That Guy. Can I join if I have flagged games on my profile? No, unless you hide the games, get unflagged, or use a different profile. Can I adjust the clock on my console to fiddle with the time stamp? Nope, and that's the best part of this. What do I need to do at the appointed hour? Beforehand, you need to have a game ready to plat by doing only a single action (beat a boss, find the last collectible, whatever). What game and how far ahead of time you prepare it is up to you. At the appointed hour, you're going to pop your plat so the time stamp shows between the above time frame. This is where the precision and maybe luck comes in. If you're taking part, do yourself a favor and pick a game with a nice simple task that results in a shiny plat mere seconds later. Earn a trophy ahead of time in a different game to try to sync your watch up to the Sony trophy server. Failure's highly likely here, but just think how funny it would be to say you got a plat right at midnight on New Year's. What do I need to do afterwards? Get a picture of the plat in your PSN profile from your console and post it here, whether you succeeded or failed. Screenshot, cell phone pic, digital camera pic, Vita camera pic, whatever works as long as it shows the time stamp. The deadline for posting screenshots is January 5th. What do I get for doing this? Nothing, this is just for giggles, and to see if we can do it. Why do people climb mountains? Because they can. When you're ready, thrown your name in the hat along with the game you're doing. I'll review my games and have a think, but the likelihood is that I'll be doing something boring and social on NYE. It'd be a great start to 2016's hunting. Can I point out that Teslagrad is a great game to do this with if you haven't already got that plat. Just leave one collectible un-collected, then walk over it at midnight to collect your plat. Plus, the set-up won't take you more than a few hours. Guide in my sig if you need it. Edit: And, in consideration of the below post, I will also point out that Teslagrad will be releasing on Vita (finally) this week (in EU at least). Vita has that near instantaneous trophy pop, and doesn't take up valuable TV time. Perfect for the gamer whose spouse wants to watch the ball drop on TV, or who's out on the town and owns a set of cargo pants. I was going to pop Metro Last Light Redux as my first plat for Platinum Rain Day as the trophy I need to pop for the plat is called Cheers for having 3 drinks which seemed like an appropriate trophy for New Years Eve. I'm hoping its AC:S, but I'll have my lego game sitting on the backburner in case that doesn't happen in the month of December. EDIT: I believe I'll be able to get AC:S finished, so put that down. However, I'm going to try and set it up so I can get both plats above done on the same minute! SO I could get two plats at the stroke of 12!
