100% Completion - Super Star Wars (May 4, 2022)

Trophy Statistics

 

The Good

  • Classic Nintendo platforming
  • Fantastic use of the Star Wars license
  • Trophy icons

The Bad

  • It's not Super Empire Strikes Back
  • The controls are very fiddly, which are improved in the sequels
  • We probably won't get the sequels

What a classic.  It really brings home the saying "NES Hard".  Or in this case, SNES.  Super Star Wars was released for the Super Nintendo all the way back in 1992, and is a very cool licensed platformer that was notoriously hard even then. It's reputation still holds up.  I have had this on my wishlist, and on the morning of May 4th I was reminded "Hey, it's STAR WARS DAY!"  Do I dare attempt to 100% this before the stroke of midnight, unlocking all trophies on this most hallowed of days?  Yes, yes I do.

 

What a rewarding experience.  I was immediately hit by a wave of nostalgia as I loaded in, remembering all the quirks, both good (unique monsters only mentioned in the movies) and bad (hold "up direction" and "jump" for a super jump! Can't shoot while moving!).  For the no-death Jedi difficulty run it’s true you can just abuse the save-load feature and make consistent progress. The trophy guides talk about using PS+ cloud or USB to make a hard backup of your file, and revert if you back yourself into a corner during a level. Or in my case, hit “save” after a death rather than “load”.

 

This didn’t work for me. Deleting the game, deleting the saves, pulling down from USB, from Cloud backups, nothing worked. The in game save would never revert.  I read something about how there are possibly two saves, one for online cross play (Vita & PS4) and one for offline. I suspect the save you can backup is for offline play, and you have to log off PSN to use that one.  The online save is likely embedded in your profile. I lost about an hour and a half of progress fiddling around, hope this helps out some other poor soul in the future.

I still completed the game on time, and it was very rewarding popping that last trophy with an hour to spare! I never smashed R1 to blow up the Death Star harder in my life.

Another one of the best sonic games. Eggmanland is the hardest mission to beat but being patient is the only way the beat it because you have plenty of time to beat the Hot Dog Missions.

Like Phantom Pain I also held off on completing this but I went back to it to clean it up. It's kind of weird going from Phantom Pain back to this because of how different it feels and a couple of the mechanics felt less refined. Probably the most notable one for me was holding enemies up and telling them to do something with L1 since it felt like you have to kind of wait for the animation to finish before you actually hold them up. It's hard to really go into it but it didn't feel as good as it did in Phantom Pain. And man, the Depth trophy along with having to replay the Ground Zeroes mission or other ones that involving extracting people really make you realize how easy you had it when you have the Fultons.

 

But yeah the 100% isn't really too bad although really repetitive which I guess makes sense because it was basically a $30 demo. The trials were probably the most annoying part of it since they all require you to mark all the enemies on the map on Normal and then beat the missions twice on Hard except for Intel Operative Rescue which only had to be done once. Otherwise S Ranks weren't bad although I found them tense for a couple of missions because I was so used to relying on Fultons and the other stuff that Phantom Pain gives you to make missions easier.

DuckTales: Remastered

Difficulty: 5/10
Playtime: 12 hours
Enjoyment: 9/10 (excluding Mount Vesuvius)
 
DuckTales is a cartoon that I remember seeing as a kid and later watched again as a teen when it aired on TV. While I consider it a classic, I was more into the Quack Pack for some reason. As for the reboot, I haven't seen it and don't know if I ever will.
 
When it comes to the game, I've never played the NES version. I've seen a few screenshots, as well as heard one of the songs (which was The Moon), but that's pretty much it.
 
Then there's the remastered version. I've only seen one review when it first came out, but that's pretty much it. I planned to buy this back then, but because my budget was limited, I had to cancel it.
 
After many years, I've finally played it. What more can I say about it? It's great. Pretty much everything works with this game. It even brings back the original voice cast from the cartoon, so thumbs up for that.
 
There is one thing I really don't like about this game and that's obviously Mount Vesuvius. The first part of the level, as well as the boss, aren't too bad. Once you get past those, it gets somewhat difficult. The race for the coin took me a few attempts, but the lava part comes after that is why I don't like this level so much. In my experience, it seems that no matter how perfectly you get to the end, the lava will catch up and it's just barely possible to make it through. You also can't afford to make any mistakes since the lava rises so fast. Thanks to all that, I died a few times and I even had to replay the level from the beginning whenever I lost all my lives. Every time I got to that dreaded part, I got nervous and just had to hope that I wouldn't mess up. I haven't felt like this since my Crash 4 days.
 
As for the playthrough on Extreme, it went surprisingly well, even though I had to restart a few times just because I lost a life or two and wasn't really satisfied with my performance. Thankfully, I only had cleared 1-2 levels on those attempts. Even with a few deaths (thanks to those annoying goats in the Himalayas), I was able to clear it somewhat easily, although I played it safely whenever I was close to death. I even managed to get past that lava part on my first try, which I didn't expect.
 
So yeah, even though I've never played the original before, I enjoyed the remastered version more than I thought. Shame they didn't fix the issues with the game crashing if you skip the cutscenes too many times. Thankfully, I didn't encounter any of that, thanks to the Quick Cinema option. Not only does it skip most of the cutscenes, but also certain parts of the game which made the playthrough on Extreme more bearable without having to worry if the crashes and having to redo it from the beginning.

100% inFamous: Festival of Blood

32.64% - Uncommon

 

Turned out being a little annoying due to the collectables Trophies, but this wasn't too bad. Definitely easier than Infamous 1 and 2, since it's much shorter: maybe it wasn't worth the 10€ I paid for it, but overall, this was a short, enjoyable infamous 2-like experience.

 

With this, I have 100% all the three Ps3 inFamous games: I liked this franchise. I'm now taking a long hiatus from it before playing Second Son and First Light on Ps4.

Season of Infamy

Took me 6 years to finally buy the season pass and to go and play this part of the game.

Pretty fun but was missing one final Ending it feels like.

 

A Flip of a Coin

I started this one in 2019 and couldn't finish that last fight, and I finally finished it! I am terrible at the combat in this game. ?

 

I just have the AR Challenges to do. I will never do any of the AR Challenges in the game. ?

4.69% - Ultra Rare

 

I don't recommend this game. Uno has always been a funny game when played in real life with friends, but playing it against AI or with random online people is not the same thing at all. Not to mention that a couple of Trophies are very tricky to get, I had to borrow my parents' phones for like one hour to get one of them. :lol:

Another World - 20th Anniversary Edition (PS4)

 

Oh my, was this one frustrating at times haha. I get it though, it was programmed and intended to be that way originally. While it doesn't hold up to modern standards being a 1991 title, I'm glad I went back and played this, it felt like I was experiencing a part of gaming history I never knew about before.

 

Difficulty - 6/10 (only thanks to very generous checkpoints)

Enjoyment - 7/10
