Sony PlayStation won't be at E3 2019

Love this choice. If you don't have anything to show then there is no reason to force it and end with a CGI trailer of some game that's three years away.

I think it would be so badass if Sony was completely silent till early 2020 and then held a press event where they are just like "PlayStation 5!! Horizon 2!! Bloodborne 2!!! Killzone 5 (please)!!!!!! All launching this Fall!"

E3 has kinda lost its luster anyways. Most stuff is leaked or officially announced beforehand.

It's just basically one giant hype train.

The last real hurrah I had on anything regarding E3 was when Sony revealed God of War at E3 2016. I'm sure most of everyone that was there to see that very moment played through a God of War game in their past to know that a long anticipated sequel (or reboot) was in the works.

Everything else just hasn't impressed me that much. I've seen footage of Assassins Creed Origins and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus during E3 2017 that made me go and buy the games during their first week of release.

There is nothing Sony can really showcase next year that hasn't already been mentioned somewhere or has already gotten video footage. Days Gone will release early next year and they still have three more exclusives they're going to release afterwards.

But as always, I look forward to the games that will be announced by other companies, that may find their way on the Playstation 4.

at this rate the E3 events is starting to get irrelevant more and more each year, no wonder why they're skipping it.

plus I don't think we wanted to wait for a new E3 just to see more game play of TLOU 2, more head scratching footage from Death Stranding, a new trailer from Kingdom Hearts 3 all over again.

E3 from now on should be left for Indies and only attempts it if you wanna shows a new Hardware.

Nintendo had an amazing E3 Direct in 2017. "Hey guys, remember us? We've got more info on Mario Odyssey! Oh, and we've got a new Kirby game! Yoshi! METROID PRIME 4! POKÉMON!"

But then again, they HAD to. They were just starting with a new console and they needed to show people it wouldn't be a Wii U again. It's the first time in years I've seen them announce titles that were more than a year away from releasing, and on E3 2018 they were back to the usual giving airtime to games that were close to release.

Sony doing away with all the flash and just making a video presentation of games they want to show would be great. E3 is all sizzle, no steak.

Though, it must be said, if Sony is doing a Direct type presentation from now on then it's a shame they've already used the name PS Now for something else (and less fitting, in my opinion), because PS Now is a great Sony Direct name.

As if there wasn't enoug bullsh*t surrounding them right now. It's a pretty ballsy move but I can't really say I'm surprised seeing how overconfident they have become.

With 86+ millions of PS4 sold in 5 years they will at least be able to dig themselves a nice and comfy grave for next gen :D

The bigger they are...

Still getting all up in there huh? First because of the censoring of some deemed inappropriate vn content (go to a porn site ffs) and now because they're skipping e3? E3 been dying a slow death for years and Sony isnt the first big name to pass on it and find better value in alternate media platforms.

Get over it dude

Edit

Before you make some witty comeback, try to keep in mind that you're preaching doom & gloom because they censored some anime porn and skipped an increasingly irrelevant e3. Overreact much?

The only bad thing about this, is that there won't be E3 sales, and i used to get my 12-month ps+ at that time -_-

Don't worry too much. Nintendo does their E3 as an online video and they still do E3 sales, Sony might do the same.

Well...

Not that I agree with the sentiment of the post you quoted - E3 seems pretty irrelevant, producing your own streamed presentation seems wise - Sony has been getting cocky these past years, as it seems the company with the most sold current gen consoles always does. This censoring thing is just a blip compared to the outrage last year, when it turned out that if you used your Fortnite account on PS4, it became locked to Sony and you couldn't play on X1 or Switch any more.

All talk with no action. Another way to describe this is having a dog that barks but has no bite.

I am all for cross play, but Sony keeps denying any possible access to the Switch or the Xbox. Which coming from an arrogant company I shouldn't be too surprised.

I'm sure by now, everyone know the arguments for and against cross play.  But honestly though, if you can be unbiased, what would Sony as a company have to gain from aiding their competitors? It's the same when Microsoft denied it previously - they had nothing to gain from it, so why do it?

Agreed on all talk and no action, but bark without bite seems wrong somehow in the E3 context.

They have nothing (at least nothing short term) to gain from it, since they are currently number one. Microsoft does it now because they are behind.

That doesn't mean it's not a dick move. I know some people will stick by one party no matter what, but personally: I usually go Nintendo (at least partially) but like many, I skipped the Wii U. I went for X360 like many, instead of PS3 because it was cheaper. Also like many, I switched from X360 to PS4, because the X1 didn't appeal to me at all and it was more expensive. I have a Switch now, and I want to keep a console for Assassin's Creed and other stuff, but I have zero problems with jumping ship again.

... And that's where it all goes wrong for the corporations. They go arrogant when they are in the lead because they aren't thinking ahead, whichbis why none of those corporations have actually kept the lead for more than two generations.

Maybe you should just shut up before acting like you know everything when you aren't even able to understand why people are complaining. I'm not even playing the majority of the games they are censoring and I certainly don't need a porn site either but someone that prefers to judge without knowing shit wouldn't know.

In case you didn't know, E3 is an event that even casual gamers tend to watch and it is during E3 that these people are going to gather information concerning games they wouldn't even know about if it wasn't for E3. What you don't seem to realize is that Playstation are basically letting Microsoft presents all of their games and other developpers games without having an actual competition, and you are crazy if you think that Microsoft isn't going to capitulize on that, they are eager and they certainly don't want to repeat the mistakes they did with the Xbox One.

When I talked about Playstation digging their own grave I wasn't saying literally that they are going to go bankrupt either, I'm just saying that next gen is probably going to be a wake-up slap for them, just like last gen.

And concerning the censoring, the problem isn't even concerning "underage anime girls" or whatever excuse people like you are using for protecting Playstation's ass. Censoring always begins like this with big companies threatening small companies knowing they won't even have the money to replicate (Playstation are basically restricting developpers to release their game on their platform because of a change that happened after the initial deal, how nice of them) but they are not going to stop there, if you don't believe me then just inform yourself on Nintendo's history of censoring and look how they are currently backtracking.

Companies shouldn't have to tell mature people what's appropriate and what's not and they shouldn't have to threaten developpers to ban their game if the game doesn't present abusive content whether it's sex or violence.

If you believe that living in a society where big companies are dictating people how to live their lives and which kind of content they can or can't enjoy is fine, you clearly have a problem.

There is no need to derail the topic even more, and don't bother replying my blacklist is welcoming you. Have a nice day.

I've been beating this drum since the whole crossplay thing started.  Back in the Xbox 360 generation, Microsoft was just as adverse to it, with reports aplenty of Microsoft wanting to keep their Xbox Live ecosystem locked down... leading to little nice things like "Steam on PS3" and PC crossplay with Portal 2 absent from the Xbox release.  Coincidentally, the 360 had all the momentum that generation for having released sooner and cheaper than the PS3.  Now that Sony and the PS4 have the lead, it's happened again going the other way.

It sucks for the consumers who want to play with their friends no matter what they have (trust me I'd love Destiny 2 crossplay)... but from a business perspective it makes sense for the leading console to avoid crossplay.  They'd basically be saying "Go ahead, buy those other consoles and give them your money instead of us.  Don't worry, you can still play here."  Microsoft is already losing, so trading sales for good PR makes more sense long term... and Nintendo is on their own level so they're just watching Sony/Microsoft go at it and joining in for funsies and a little good PR of their own at this point.  Sony wouldn't/shouldn't want to actively try to give away their lead.

Since people have these selective short-term memories, or weren't actively gaming back then, or just cared less back then... they seem to think Sony now being adverse to crossplay with the lead is something new.  And of course, everything is considered the next big outrage/insult these days, so people can't just shrug these things off like they used to.

Oh my God, this, forever and ever.

Everyone is making a fuss for a useless game genre. There are millions of games of the same type, even not censored, they play all the same, go play one of those instead of whining. And no, i don't play COD, Assassin's Creed, MT-filled Chinese mobile games, or sports games, in case you were going to assault me for whatever stupid reason.
