Fall/Winter 2020-2021 Backlog Challenge

another Friday , another update.

 

I did hope that I would have made more progress. Started off good but had some difficulties on the way (see Salt and Sanctuary)

 

Vampyr

Started this game from scratch (had played only the prologue a couple of weeks ago). Since I do want to do this in one play through, I have to choose not to embrace anybody. The biggest downside of that is that you will not gain a lot of XP, which makes the game harder since you cannot upgrade as much as you want. It basically means you are a couple of levels below your enemies. Best plan is to concentrate on a couple of abilities as you cannot max out all of them. I choose to invest in stamina/health and focus on a saw that when upgraded gives me blood points which you need to activate your abilities.  My core abilities that I use are claw and autophagy. To cut a long story short; I think I have found the right set-up as up until now the game is very doable. It feels a bit like Bloodborne, and with most enemies it is all about being aggressive and timely rolling away that gives you the upper hand. Game is really enjoyable with a lot of lore (if you are interested). And it is with Plus next month in case you want to try it yourself.

 

Salt and Sanctuary

Picked this up again. Had to start over as I lost my way with my previous run, also the reason why I didn't progress anymore. It is kind of a Souls game in 2D. But, much easier as there a couple of weapon buffs that are kind of OP. One of them is the Blessed Paper. So I was well under way until by accident I killed the merchant that sells Blessed paper, cutting me off from my supply ?. When I also warped to a wrong sanctuary and I couldn't find my way back, I started over. Hence the reasons why I didn't made as much progress as I wanted......but the experience is great! I am playing this on the Vita and I am loving every second of it!

 

Hitman 2

Started with the Isle of Sgail. Have finished most of the it, just need to get to mastery level 20. Which is a bit of grind with this one as the map is pretty big.

 

Swap time:

I added Mercenary Kings to my list last week but I will be going to swap that out. I t is just not my sort of game. I haven't decided yet with I will replace it, probably will be AC Chronicles for teh PSVita.

Wrapped up Hajimari no Kiseki and got the plat at last!  With the update released on October 1st it was easy to get the last two trophies, even if they were a bit grindy.  Loved the game and it's probably my 2020 game of the year.  Made a bit of progress trophy wise in Sengoku Basara and am up to 28 playthroughs completed.  Going to take a break from this one because I'm losing motivation fast for the grind and I'm going to go ahead and start Rune Factory back up.

Update #6 

 

Spent a huge chunk of 5 days going after the 100% for Siren and I'm going to say something that might be blasphemous... I think I enjoyed it more than Silent Hill 2 or 3... Granted, I haven't played much of the HD collection versions at all but the combat felt a lot better and using the rifle with Akira was super fun and added a nice moment of power after getting absolutely demolished for most of the game. Not to mention, the over-the-shoulder camera just plays a lot better than the fixed angle. The story I found really fascinating and the elements of Japanese folklore had me excited to find the next tidbit of information for what the hell is happening in Hanuda. the atmosphere and animation were perfect for the tone they were going for. Very freaky environment and with losing your archive items and secondary objectives if you die, I actually felt a lot of tension anytime I was in a precarious predicament.

 

Highly recommended and one of my favorite horror experiences I've played in a long, long time. This one is going in the trophy cabinet and it's a crying SHAME it doesn't have a platinum. There are so many awesome miscellaneous trophies and trophies for seeing different characters endings they could have done. Trophy for breaking the piggy bank with the frozen towel? C'mon Sony, this is amateur!

Well, here we are. My last update, as I'm going to drop out of this challenge. The reasons are simple:

1. I'm not really keen to start any (besides one) of the games on this list, and can't bring myself to play any of them until CS4 comes out. Guess I'm in a bit of a slump.

2. Talking about CS4, I'm actually going to spend way more time with that than anticipated, as I'm going to try and write a gameplay guide on that. This will take a lot of work, work that I can't put in actually playing games.

 

Did finish P4D though, about to finish RIDE 2, and going to start Tokyo Xanadu. I'll still try my best to do something, just not intense at all.

Update #5: A day early for my weekly update, but I really wanted to go ahead and add Mad Max to my list. With the servers shutting down soon and the notorious 190/191 glitch, I need to earn this plat STAT. So far, I’ve loved every minute of it, but I’m still pretty early on in the story. I also finally finished LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. The hub world felt a bit too bloated with fetch quests and escort missions at the end, but it was nice to knock off another game. Made a little progress in Borderlands 3; I’m nearing the end of the story, as far as I can tell. I think the varied locations are keeping me interested at this point.

What’s up, everybody! My bi-weekly report has arrived and posting here always gives me fresh motivation to push forward. Believe me, I’ve felt kinda rushed by these events lately. I’m not super-efficient or effective as I would like to for playing games, and you have my deepest respect for that. People playing and finishing games in 2 days. Wow. I honestly can’t give me that luxury despite I give my best, always. And this leads me to my proper explanation of what I’ve doing lately. Firstly, Rocket League is a very fun game, one which can help to relax of other hard-stuff and gives you a brief moment of joy and peace. That one, as you know, for the F2P version hit the platforms last week, has become a quite interesting title. One of which I was waiting to play, as the trophies are basically earned by just playing the game. Nothing more or less. Few ones require to be boosted of course, but not very difficult neither impossible task considering that you can play anything and you suddenly will meet the requirements and *ding*, trophy is yours! Aside from needing a friend for a couple ones, the game is lit. This truly is something I’ll tackle at its own pace.

But what began as a side project has become a main one. This staggers me a lot because I wasn’t expecting precisely this stuff to happen in the first place. One thing I do is to play blindly. I want the experience of playing the game with their surprises and cliffhangers, but GTA Online is plainly insane. Truly. Aside for the almost infinite stuff you can do, and the time sucking can become at moments, I’ve found that I must move from this game ASAP. Seriously. All those grievers, but also a huge and wholeheartedly community about helping each other makes one of the best balances and probably one of the things that can give me hope in humanity; at least a very little, makes me think how I'm going to hit my other games. All this, makes me use against my very own wishes, to summon a swap, a soul for a soul. Changing Assassin’s Creed Origins for the aberrant, yet very intense and fun at moments creature that Rockstar developed (at least within the next weeks until I can feel soft and ready to beat another colossal open-world game).

 

And then I realize something very inspiring. One of my favorite characters and probably the same for many of you, is going to have a “birthday” soon. Yeah, Naruto Uzumaki joins the fight! After many thoughts and despite I stated something different elsewhere, Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 will be next. A game that called my attention since the manga/anime finished, so as this year has become pretty strange in many aspects, this anime in particular reminds me a lot of what means to stand in front of pain and despair. So, even I have a bunch other in the list, I think this is the best, organic and natural decision to make at the time. But I just have 10 days to beat it. Well, time to remember the words of the blond show-off, number one unpredictable, noisy ninja! Therefore, I don’t have the minimum idea of how the following days will be. As stated above, this has become like a side-job at the moment and to handle all this mess is driving me insane. However, I hope to be able to beat it for sure in no time, and even the obstacles, the victor in the end.

My first update with no platinums achieved. I didn't hit any of my other goals for the week either, and it's all thanks to Genshin Impact. It was the only thing I played from Monday up to Friday. I got to Adventure Rank 20 and was about to buy the Battle Pass when I deleted it from my PS4. I knew if I kept playing it that I would never have a chance of completing this challenge, or clearing out my backlog in general. So, Genshin had to go. Not because it was bad, but because it was too good. Unfortunately, I got one trophy from it right before I stopped playing so it's still going to taunt me from my trophy list for awhile.

 

I got back on track with Shadow Warrior on Friday and knocked out some of the grindy combat trophies in Chapter 2. Now I'm ready to continue the full playthrough and partial NG+ run to max everything out. Then I've got Wednesday set aside for the Heroic Mode run.

 

The two gold trophies in Hotshot Racing are still bugged, but I'm not swapping it just yet. Picked up one more bronze, but still no luck finding online races.

 

Week 6 plans

-Finish Shadow Warrior

-Start and complete Resident Evil HD

-Get back on the Avengers grind, I want to have the plat done by the end of October.

@dylansko is this a remake? I played Siren on PS2, or was it PS1, cannot remember. Great experience!

First month is over and this week I got some good progress. Managed to finish all newly added games from the last update.

And all of them were fun. I like the "Midnight" Series, these are beneath "Just Ignore me" the only ratalaika games I really enjoyed playing.

 

Coffee Talk is a good written visual novel with a coffee minigame. I liked the story and the minigame ? didint know u can pause the game in challenge mode...so Ive made it without and had a hard time complete 50 perfect drinks ?

 

And "Late Shift" was on sale so I had to get it. And after "The Complex" Im a bit hooked with interactive movies. So Im looking forward to Erica and Tellung Lies.

Monday update time. I spent most of my weekend working on Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning and trying not to get distracted by the possibility of playing Genshin Impact. World of Warcraft:Shadowlands got postponed too which is a bummer, but it will mean more free time to work on this list

I made some good progress with the main story and most of the grind related trophies - I'm kinda relieved that I have the 'Persuade 50 people' 'Pick 50 Locks' etc out of the way. The persuasion trophy is always a bit of a worry inducer because persuasion opportunities aren't super frequent, so you have to try and make sure your skill is always nice and high, or just save before a conversation and reload if the persuasion attempt fails.

 

I managed to clear the Legend of Dead Kel DLC content which was way more fun than I remember it (I actually preferred this to the main story) and you also get the best player house in the game in terms of size and luxury - Gravehal Keep. So now i have some pretty decent gear and a lovely looking great-sword to take me through to endgame and tackle the remaining Teeth of Naros DLC which seems to be about giant people made of living stone at war.

Still plugging away at this. I'm only 9 trophies (excluding the platinum) away from getting this done. The only thing that is going to take some time is completing 50 Hive Missions, which for anyone who hasn't got there or plays this - they are combat gauntlets where you enter a 'dungeon' and have to get through a number of floors to complete them.

 

I intended to play this way more over the weekend, but I decided to take a break because the AI completely broke for me during an Elite Vault mission - they literally stopped using any of their abilities and half of them would just stand there or run into a wall. Which is all a bit weird, because usually the AI is relatively competent most of the time.

I finished off Episode 4 and made a good dent in Episode 5, I think I need to completely finish the story before I make up my mind on this though, i'll share my thoughts once i'm completely done.

Update 4!

Far Cry Classic was pissing me off, so I spent a lot of last week (and this week, whoops lmao) playing the PS3 stack of Skyrim instead. I didn’t think it was worth posting an update for a whopping 3% increase in completion in a single game. I’ll try to go back to it after finishing a few other games in here, but as of right now I’m irritated enough that I’m more than likely going to switch it out for something else and go back to it at a (much) later date. Oh, and I’m also adding Letter Quest Remastered because I started working on that again.

 

The Devil’s Daughter has been really interesting so far! I love investigation type games like this, I wish I knew of more than just the couple Sherlock Holmes ones and Judgment.

It's in that style yeah, but a little more clunky. You have to press R3 to aim down sights, and the powers require you to double tap a direction or swipe the touchpad to use. Either one is kind of tricky to pull off while avoiding demons. The melee feels inconsistent, but I haven't unlocked most of the powers and upgrades yet so hopefully it gets better.

 

The movement and dashing feel good though, and I like scouring the levels looking for money and secrets. I'm using a guide for the secrets just to make it go faster, but it's still fun to search. It's not bad overall, but it does feel very "early gen" after playing the Dooms and Wolfensteins.

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing fine!

 

Time for a first update for me since I would actually like to add a new game to my list: Doom 3. I've been wanting to try it out for a while since I really enjoyed Doom (2016) but I never really got around to it and I kinda even forgot about it eventually. That was untill a couple of weeks ago when playing dead space suddenly reminded me of it (no idea why...).

 

DOOM 3

I didn't want to immediately add it to my list since I wasn't sure yet if I would enjoy it enough to platinum it but now I'm pretty sure that I will. About 3/4 in on my first (blind) playthrough atm and I'm really enjoying the game. Decided not to really worry about the collectible and speedrun trophies just yet since I never like to spoil or rush my first playthrough of a game. It would definitely be nice to get the speedrun out of the way already of course so I don't have to rush my nightmare playthrough but I'm afraid I'm not going to get it. We'll see how it goes, should be able to finish the game on veteran tomorrow.

 

LEGO Harry Potter: years 5-7

Pretty much wrapped everything up in terms of playthroughs and collectibles already (with thankfully no glitches ?). There is just 1 small thing left to do in order to unlock the plat at this point which will actually be done at a more convenient moment for me (in favour of another event). I'll post my thoughts on the game as soon as I get that done, but I can already say that Harry potter has been a great introduction for me to the LEGO series and I'm already looking into buying some of the other ones I'm probably going to enjoy like Star wars, LOTR and The Hobbit. Expect to see some more LEGO popping up on my list very soon  .

Besides making some progress on SR4 and Breakpoint since my last update, I did also make some progress in non-challenge games. I got a couple of the challenges cleaned up in Mad Max and then plat'd Mafia II Def. Edition so now just have to complete that DLC.
