I can't see them just "making this up". They're clearly aware of the rumours and have now confirmed to me at least that the rumours are true, even if they aren't sure yet about whether downloads will still be available after the closures. I have had experiences too with Platinum rewards where one Support worker told me I couldn't have them, then they forwarded me to a specialist team and the specialist team gave me the codes for the rewards no problem, so I know what you mean about Support workers not being all that reliable, but to me, this seems fairly clear cut. If they were just making shit up, they would have made shit up about whether or not downloads would be available after closure as well. I don't think they'd just make shit up when it comes to something this big that so many people are talking about. They wouldn't just confirm it and then set themselves up to have to backpedal later.

As is your prerogative, but this seems fairly official to me. It'd definitely be nicer to see an official announcement from PlayStation though, I agree. I have responded back to the Support worker asking a bunch of things, including why there hasn't been any official word from PlayStation as of yet.

I think he is thinking that you are talking about the old PS3/PS4/Vita webstore (although it is still accessible via special link).

Or he could be thinking that you're referring to the closure of the old Playstation store and app.

I don't think so. The fact that he talks about there being a "little confusion about PS3 Store closure" tells me that he's aware that I'm talking about the current rumours.

Again, I don't think so. The fact that he talks about there being a "little confusion about PS3 Store closure" tells me that he's aware that I'm talking about the current rumours. Plus, there was no question with those as to whether we'd be able to continue downloading our games and DLCs after, whereas there is that question with this issue, and he says that they're looking into it.

No it's sounding like he's talking about the old webstore, people thought that meant the consoles were getting axed then too.

The new webstore launch is still pretty recent. PS5s are still launching across the world. There's still people in US that still don't own a PS5 yet!

I don't think so, but you're free to take what he said however you want.

What does that have to do with anything?

I know I'm a bit late to respond to this, and it's super off-topic, but just wanted to write out my opinion.

I'm really sick of hearing people harping about how GAMEPASS IS THE GREATEST DEAL IN GAMING AND EVERYONE SHOULD SUBSCRIBE, IF YOU DON'T WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU. Yeah, I get it, you pay a subscription and get access to a large number of games. That's great for people who have time to play a ton of games but maybe can't/don't want to purchase games.

Here's what I'm not interested in.

- Digging through a giant list to figure out what I want to play.

- Playing/Trying a whole bunch of games. (I generally stick to 2-3 games at a time, because I struggle with remembering which button does what)

- Feeling pressured to start & finish a game before it leaves Gamepass, if it's time-limited.

- Paying for access to hundreds of games, but in reality I only manage to play a very small number of games per month. (Heck, I have been subscribed to PS+ for years, but I usually don't even bother to try the Plus games unless there is something I was already interested in)

- Not being able to directly show support for the creators of my favourite games.

- Not getting PlayStation trophies.

- Using Xbox controllers. Xbox's lineup of exclusive games. Playing on PC.

To be a bit more on-topic, even if Sony does all this nonsense like shutting down stores for old systems, I am still gonna stick with them as long as trophies are a thing. I'm at the point where I feel like I'm wasting time if I'm not getting trophies. This is the reason I do not have or want a Switch. (If Animal Crossing gave me trophies I would be all over it). And I pay more money for PlayStation versions of games even if they are cheaper elsewhere because I need to be getting the trophies. Yes, I realize this sounds unhealthy.

Don't you like Achievements on Xbox?

That's what everyone is doing with everything in this thread.

A random (terribly performing if they're responsible for supporting English speaking customers) customer support person giving a vague response without their source on a rumor that also has no source wouldn't be considered confirmation by any standards.

Everyone should wait for someone with authority from Sony to respond. And if Sony never responds then it was just another rumor someone started.

That dude looks like a typical corporate manager whose only interest is to show-off during meetings with investors how big are their microtransactions revenue and how effectively they're cutting costs by shutting down "ol' shit that no one plays" and cool studios like Japan Studio which didn't fit into strategy "let's just create same-looking games all the time to ensure stability and high sales".
I bet he's not even a gamer

I know I might draw some heat for this, but the contrast between Jim Ryan and Phil Spencer is striking.

Criticize Xbox all you want (and rightfully so at times), but it must be refreshing to have a leader that actually gives a crap about investing into the brand.  Everything that Xbox has been doing lately has been a step in the right direction, whether it be the purchase of new IPs/studios, backwards compatibility, and crossplatform/crossplay.

I agree that an official announcement from Sony would be more iron-clad but you have to admit that confirmation (and it was confirmation, not a vague response) from a Support worker who actually works for Sony is a lot closer to confirmation than what we've had so far, which is just some dude on a website (TheGamer, was it?) who has no affiliation to Sony whatsoever.

True, I've been saying this for a long time now. Jim Ryan is what the Dom Mattrick of Xbox was.

You are right on that. Phil is making both reactive decisions (studios, backward compatibility) as well as proactive decisions (Gamepass, crossplay). None of the three console makers are going anywhere, but MS clearly has room for much more growth and Phil seems to be making decisions that helps that growth. What some zealous people don't see is that MS growth doesn't only come from Sony or Nintendos loss. The market grows every year and there are more new or returning gamers to appeal to.

Phil also greenlit the price doubling for an Xbox service and then had to backtrack. So maybe he was a little too proactive.

I'm still skeptical on this rumor, but there are clearly some decisions from Sony that are a bit too proactive as well. Let's see if they backtrack over time just the same.

Confirmation from a support employee is completely worthless. They'll lie and tell you whatever you want to hear.

That's you choosing to see what you want to see.

No, I don't admit that this:

Their seam little confusion about PS3 Store closure,Hopefully I can clear this matter up for you .

you will no longer be able to purchase digital copies of games or DLC for any of the Sony consoles mentioned above.

counts as anything except some poor worker trying to get through their email queue by giving whatever answers they can. Wasting customers support time on this issue is pointless.

Unless other confirmations come in from PS Support, this is my stance on that.

There has been no official announcements and yet this is worded as if the store closure was a done deal.

I'm not a fan of Phil, he is a pathological liar and has done nothing but greenlight mediocre projects or cancel things that actually looked interesting, RIP Scalebound.

Rofl.

So the support guy has also thrown  the re-downloading into the mix.

Should be  around a week    before AF's end, but if it's real, yeah, not gonna  buy anything anymore if Sony cannot guarantee the safety of my purchases, I'll just stick with the backlog, and then be over with after I reach a nice %.

As someone who has worked frontline support for major companies like Apple, employees are generally advised not to speculate or discuss unconfirmed rumors with customers. Can't speak to personal experience with Sony but it always felt like support employees are the last to know about any major news so I would take that response with a huge grain of salt for now.

Listen, I contacted PlayStation Support to try and get some answers for us all and that's what he came back to me with. To me, someone who works for PlayStation wouldn't have confirmed something like that just for the hell of it. He would have given me some non-answer like that they're looking into it or something, like he did with the issue of downloading games/DLCs after store closure. I'm sorry if it wasn't what you wanted to hear, it wasn't what I wanted to hear either, but if you're going to make me out to be a liar by saying that I faked the response, or try and come up with some bullshit about him "misunderstanding me", whatever, that's up to you, have fun with your denial. I'll be looking for an official announcement from PlayStation as well but the response I got from the Support worker definitely seems to confirm that the stores will be closing. I have given you that information. What you do with it is up to you. Sheesh.
