I  managed to get a few of my favourites and backlog games that I had left half finished for over 5 years, platinumed this year, which I'm proud off and improved my completion %. I think 2022 was the year where I earned the most platinums so far. A few JRPG and otome game favourites, and some trophy boost sale games and psn plus titles. While I have probably one of the smallest lists in this thread, I finally beat my 3 plats a year standard that I have been stuck in for a while. One was an auto-pop, but it is the first one on my profile (likely the last) as I still enjoying playing it casually with my partner. I'm disappointed I couldn't keep up a monthly plat, but with some unexpected health issues and all the ps3 server closures in the second half of the year, there was just not enough time. I'm happy I was able to clear up some of my ps3 back log at least and earn my first ps4 plat - Fall Guys.

I'd call myself more of a casual collector than the full-blown trophy hunters that normally comment on threads like these, but I did secure my first four platinum trophies in 2022:

Not much in the way of volume, but a couple of gems are in there. Getting Infallible in Fall Guys was something I never expected coming into the year, and the PGA Tour 2K21 platinum done legitimately (without a widely used exploit for shooting par or better on Legend difficulty) was equal parts infuriating and rewarding near the end. When the guide writer said that it went from a 3 to a 7 without the exploit, they weren't kidding.

So overall a good first year of being a proper trophy hunter. 39 platinums is a good number imo, and 11 of those being Ultra Rare is pretty cool.

Top 3 most fun platinums (not in order):

1) Deep Rock Galactic - This game has a great gameplay loop of traversing caves and gunning down alien bugs. It has basically infinite replayability to top it off. The caves you play it are randomly generated so they're always different. There are 4 classes and each has several primary/secondary guns with so much customisation. There are so many free cosmetics you can earn in a million ways from playing and enjoying the game. The devs are constantly adding new stuff to it, new guns, new mission types, even a completely free battlepass every season. The platinum takes hundreds of hours, and when I got it I still wasn't tired of the game.

 

2) BioShock 2 Remastered - I think the first one is generally more liked, but I think BioShock 2 improves over the first in almost every way. The guns are better, the controls are better, even the damn hacking minigame is better. I also think the ending is amazing (I got the good ending for rescuing all Little Sisters).

 

3) Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus - This game refines the gameplay of TNO and TOB to perfection, with some of the most satisfying guns I've used in any game ever. The story is pretty good too, some people don't like how ridiculous it can be at times but I think it suits the game and provides some great twists. And Mein Leben was extremely satisfying to learn, and because I got so lucky and beat it on my second attempt, I didn't even need to deal with the usual soul-crushing fails that these difficult challenges usually provide.

 

Top 3 least fun platinums:

1) I Am Bread - Getting A++ on Cheese Hunt levels ruined the whole experience. It's so unbelievably frustrating. I could go on and on about how annoying it is, the only way you'd ever understand is if you tried the platinum yourself. But please don't do that, it's not worth it. Ignoring the trophies, the game is fun to mess around in, and is also very funny at times.

 

2) Burly Men At Sea - The game is basically 1hr 45m of cutscenes, most of which you have to watch many times. Not much to say.

 

3) The Sims 4 - Even on PS4 Pro, the game takes an eternity to load in, and the framerate is awful at times (like so bad, it's difficult to move the cursor). There's also a million different DLC packs constantly being advertised to you in the main menu. Apparently the game lacks many features the previous Sims games had as well. Not great.

Mass Effect will end up being #57 and my last platinum of the year. Just have 2 trophies left until platinum! Overall 2022 was a pretty good year for trophies and I managed to bag a few rare and lengthy platinums along the way. The PS+ Extra/Premium catalog was a cool addition to PlayStation this year and had a big influence on the games I chose to play, exposing me to some new genres and titles. Bring on 2023!

My available playing time isn't what it used to be so I'm usually happy if I can average 1 completed game per month. I ended up with 12 Platinums and 1 shortlist in 2022 so that works, I probably could have done more but some of the games were a little lengthy. I'm still trying to finish off the PS3 and Vita backlogs before I even think of getting a PS5 and with only a couple games left to play I'll probably have that done in 2023. But my PS4 backlog is even bigger so I may just hold off until it's done as well, there's only about 4 or 5 exclusives for the PS5 that I'm interested in at the moment anyway.

I set a new personal best of 55 plats in a year, up from 35 in 2020. In terms of the plats, I'm very happy with what I earned this year. Standouts would be Tales of Symphonia, Dragon Quest XI, Everybody's Golf, Victor Vran and both Vermintide games.

Aside from plats, I'm also pleased to have finally earned GTA V's Elitist and Masterminds trophies which were the sole trophies preventing me from having a 100% completion rate for over 5 years (turns out they actually weren't hard at all, just required some persistent mates). But now I've got Vermintide 2's Weave Dominator potentially being the blocker. ?
