Completed God of War and Tales from the Borderlands today.

God of War was visually appealing, though challenging to get through the combat as it moves away from the hack and slash elements of its predecessors and forces the player to learn specific strategies to winning. Unless of course you switch down to easy mode, but even then the Valkyries are still a royal pain in the rear. So glad to have this awesome plat and waiting for the next installment in this new series...also, for those that have played it, that reveal at the end o.o did not see that coming at all but should have expected it.

Tales from the Borderlands on the PS4 was my second go round with this game and I still liked it. I think it is one of the better games Telltale has made, though this is my opinion without having played The Pre-Sequel or Borderlands 2 so I don't know if they got everything correct with the back story of Handsome Jack. But a fun little time waster.

A couple of awesome reveals at the end there, loved it

My fiance sat through the beginning of the game so wanted to see the ending, when a certain

Spoiler

name was dropped and then the special clip at the end of the game for 100% was revealed he thought he had heard the game wrong and wanted me to replay the section.

character was shown during the special clip at the end of the game, he got all excited for the second game, only to be disappointed that it hasn't been revealed yet. I might turn him into a gamer yet ;)

little update: the backlog monster fought back. I purchased 1979 Revolution: Black Friday on its release date. I'm a huge fan of serious games and history and couldn't get past this one. But I had no time to even start it, yet.

So down to 1 point now. I'll not buy Vampyr. The longer I delayed the purchase the less interested I was. I think I won't buy anything from the current sale. Also I want to keep my new game points score positive.

Haven't had internet the past couple of weeks, so I've had lots of time for the backlog. I've finished Prince of Persia Sands of Time and Fable 3. Almost done with FFX-2 and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle too.

I've been playing FFIII too, and wow is that game grind heavy. I'm really glad it's portable, because I've spent 10 of the 13 hours I've played it grinding. It's insane. x.x

Picked up a new game over the weekend, that takes me back to 4 points.

I picked up Yonder, its a really cute farming/walking game very chill but I had a pretty crappy weekend so it was nice to just chill out and play a game with no enemies or anything haha. Currently I'm working on Guitar Hero (december 1st and that server shutdown is coming too quick for my tastes), Yonder and Kingdom Hearts 2 so will hopefully have some games done over the next few days :)

First of all: Great updates guys and girls! (Do we have girls here? :hmm:) I'm proud of you!

The next couple days I'll write reviews for all the games I've finished the past 2 weeks while I was off of work. I don't think anyone actually reads the review dumps I sometimes put out so I'll space it a little . I finished 4 games and I am close to done on 2 others, also I started Wolfenstein on sunday. So I hope I'm back at positive points soon, currently I'm at -4.

Anyway, on to the first game I finished:

RiME

Ha~ve you ever been stranded on a desert island with a little cute ass fox on it for you to get best friends with???

Well here's your chance!

I played Rime as a part of the Xbox Game Pass offering. I actually really liked the game and would even buy it ''again'' as a next gen remaster. Hm? Why's that you ask?

Because the game runs kinda shit as is, even on the best performing console. I don't know what the resolution is on this one (I'd say something along the 1440p lines) but it constantly stutters which is killing the otherwise great mood for me. A simple 30fps lock and some stability improvements would've worked wonders.

To find a spot where the game runs smoothly is almost as hard as getting a straight answer from a 16 year old. But yeah, it is what it is...

...and that's actually great if you don't look at anything related to performance.

On a visual side this game is striking. And I'm not just talking about graphics and animation work.

Rime's presentation happens very much on a visual level. No dialogue, no explanation. It's a metaphor heavy representation of mystery and grief and I don't think you could've executed this story in a much better way. It has some strong moments but sadly none of them are truly outstanding and unique, like you know, the likes of which you've seen in ICO where it obviously draws much inspiration from. Although this point is a bit nitpicky since it doesn't suffer from a major low point as well and even the worst part of the game is still way above average as far as I'm concerned. It just lacks a proper ''WOW!'' moment in my opinion to be an outstanding game.
While the sound design is ok, the music is phenomenal. The ending theme you here while the credits roll must be one of the best pieces of video game music I have heard to date. Excellent stuff.

There are also some minor annoyances I'd describe as mixed on a pro and con list.
For example the platforming and the puzzles are really bland. You can tell the game has been in development for quite a while because you have have played this stuff a thousand times by now.
Also some levels drag on for a bit too long (following the big robot & the rainy part at the end)

While not having a major mindblowing moment, I still enjoyed RiME a lot and would recommend it for fans of ICO and games alike.
I'd give it an 8/10
Played on Xbox One X

Finished 1979 today. It's a very short game about the Iranian revolution against the shah. One playtrough takes 2h. For the platinum you have to play it at least twice.

Back to 3 points now. I will save them until Yakuza 2 is released. I'm really looking forward to it.

I'll join... Again.

I stopped a month or three ago because 1) I was even less active on the forum than usual and 2) my backlogs aren't actually that huge, and having having a backlog of less than twenty combined for my two current gen consoles made it a hassle to figure out three games to play before I could buy a new game again.

Well, I did some buying in the last few months, and I'm ready to focus a bit more on my purchased games again.

@Paleblood you can put me in the OP again, with this post as the one I'll keep updating. I see you made some changes and I don't know if you want to count my played through games from the first run or not but I'll leave that to you.

Heres another review from my time off work:

Resident Evil (Remaster HD Version Remastered again for Xbox One HD+ Version?)

...It's the original Resident Evil... well the remaster... uh, a Capcom game basically, so it's been on some consoles. Fuck it.

Now, being the up-to-date guy that I am, I have played the original Resident Evil for the first time... in 2018.

Since I was fashionably late to the party, how did I like it then? Well, I could say this and that but I'll cut right to the point - I absolutely loved it.

I played this one with my girlfriend, again thanks to the Xbox Game Pass. I was really suprised at how much I liked this game, it remembered me in great portions why I love gaming so much. Every day we played till late in the night, and every morning I woke up and wanted to do nothing else rather than play more Resident Evil.

We made up a few rules to get in the mood for the game before playing it which we kept to the end.

  • It has to be night. Like around 9 PM or later.
  • We would lite candles all over the room for that spoooky feel.
  • We would have snacks while playing the game.

It honestly was the most pleasant time I had with a videogame in a long time. Being such a cult classic I don't really know what to say that hasn't been said countless times, sure the controls are a bit iffy at first and the story is cheesy to no end but that was kinda the thing that made it special.

I was also thoroughly impressed by how good this game still looks on an Xbox One (can't say for other versions). I loved the gameplay, the pacing and the puzzles.

The cult status this game has and the series it started, all of this I can understand now. I will definitely play through all of the major Resident Evil titles now and I am beyond excited for the upcoming Resident Evil 2 Remake.

I'd give Resident Evil a 10/10

Played on Xbox One X

I'd love to join this event as I definitely have a problem with buying too many games and never actually getting round to playing them, and I feel I could do with some help and motivation in playing them!

I'd like to sign up for the Trophy Hunting Mode as you might as well go in big, am I right?! ?

I got quite the amount of updates to do to my list, hehe.

I bought the following games: (-12)

  • Hyerdimension Neptunia Rebirth 1
  • Seasons After Fall + Shiness Kingdom Bundle
  • Need for Speed Payback
  • Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm

I finished the following games: (5 points for finished games + 1 for 3 Platinums/100%)

  • Final Fantasy VII platinum.png
  • Seasons After Fall platinum.png
  • Need for Speed Payback
  • Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm
  • Got 100% in Journey
  • Valkyria Chronicles Remastered

Which leaves my current score NG score to 1 and the number of completed games to 23. I still have a couple of games I bought and didn't discount points, but will do if I ever start them. The backlog I had initially is getting smaller anyway, so these games get the priority. Not caring much about platinums anymore for a while is making me feel way better about getting rid of my backlog, so finishing these games first is a priority!!

I started Dark Chronicle/Dark Cloud 2, but it is still going to be a long way to finish. Considering to start a couple of games but still don't know which ones.

Glad you're enjoying the event and gaming so much lately. Also, great update on your side!

Just playing and finishing games without the whole OCD side is quite refreshing, isn't it? xD

This is the first PS+ update where I feel like I really got a lot out of it. While I do not treat these additions as 'purchased' games, they are still added to my list.

Picked up:

Serious Sam

Bound by Flame

Mafia III

Here They Lie

Hope they are all good, though they are going to wait a bit on my backlist until I clear up some playing room

Also, this post is to try out my new signature, which is made better with the addition of @Paleblood's awesome coins :)

Mafia III is probably an ok game if you play it casually, the story definitely is well done. I however ended up hating it because of the plat. One of the many reasons why trophy hunting isn't for me.

Bound by Flame is, from the little I've played, also ok, not spectacular but an ok game. A little too uninspired and by the book fantasy RPG for my taste though.

Also thank @ruffedgz, he did all the hard work :)

Sounds like I know how I'm going to play Mafia III in advance, thanks. Any specific (spoiler free) stuff that made you hate going for the platinum?

Yes. The gameplay content is pretty repetitive as is, which is not too bad if you're just playing the game. As I mentioned the story is well done. The cast is good, the voice acting was amazing as far as I can remember and the narrative grabbed me hard. I'm a big fan of crime drama, especially in this time frame, especially with racial commentary.

But for the plat you have to play the game twice, while they try to give you stuff to do differently that only ever expands on a few different words spoken by the same characters. Gameplay-wise you will be doing the same thing over, and over and over again. Not kidding.

The best tip I can give is to ignore the side stuff as much as possible and only ever do stuff you need to or feel like doing at that moment.

Do not grind for district completion, it will burn you out fast is all I can say.
