"PoTAYto/PoTAHto, ToMAYto/ToMAHto". The official pronunciation, however, is "Marr-ee-oh". I'm more concerned with how the hell to pronounce names like "Rinoa" and "Tidus". PoTAHto and toMAHto are just wrong though

Viper
Mar-ee-oh. The other way just doesn't sound correct. Besides official works say it like "Mar-ee-oh", so why say it any different?
KBrO_TH
Mario (ma - ree - oh) it's the correct way (it's a me...mariooo!) not Mare - Oh, Marry - oh or Marr - re - o (above all why double R?) Edited July 18, 2022 by KBrO_TH
JavaNext
After reading this whole thing I dont think Mario is a real word anymore. That said, its Mah-ri-o.

Sunny
Ma- ree- oh. I have a cousin and 2 friends with this same so it just comes naturally, pretty common name where I'm from.
ZitMeatloaf
Between the Super Mario 64 intro and this official Nintendo commercial, seems pretty apparent that "Mar-ee-oh" is the official pronunciation. I've only ever heard two people say "Mare-ee-oh", and one of them was ReviewTechUSA. Maybe the latter was just trying to drum up some controversy clicks by grating on everyone's ears?
