It's off-putting to find out that the game got dumbed down since release. I did thoroughly enjoy it though.

The original roster is pretty much unchanged - what you played as is more or less the same version that I played too (with some minor buffs/debuffs that aren't that noticeable at our level  )

It's the new DLC characters that are massively dumbed down from their original appearance in Accent Core. Imagine being bored by Baiken  

 

Also yeah thank god they didn't add mandatory autocombos. I am ok with classic vs modern (or  Stylish vs Technical), but don't give me mandatory autocombos, let me think the combo for myself!

 No.234 - Demon's Souls (PS3 - AS edition)

 

Platinum Name - Toughest Soul Trophy 

Hardest Trophy - All weapon upgrades - menu is in Japanese

Difficulty - come on, really now/10

 

First playthrough - entry 5 on the first page

Second playthrough - NA edition

Third playthrough - PS5 is love edition

Fourth playthrough - SL1 is finally recordable

Some other 20+ undocumented runs because I played this bitch of a game way too many times.

 

In a classic "how many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man?" I completed yet ANOTHER stack of Demon's Souls. This time I went for the AS(ian) edition, bought straight out from the Japanese store. I know the Chinese store has the game in English, but I thought to add a bit of challenge - I finished this game as a swordsman, as a bow user, as a magic user, as a faith user (Umbasa), SL1 run, no death run, Guts run, Griffith run, play with a broken controller run -- you get the point.

 Well, it seems that I played this damn game so many times that I didn't even need to read the Japanese text in order to get through the menus. The only "tricky" part was translating the weapon upgrades, since all the menus are in Japanese and I couldn't quite remember what was the placement of each upgrade in the table. But, with a helpful guide on this site, I managed to get through the mysteries of Nippon language rather easily.

 

As for the game...it's still marvelous. What else can I say that I haven't said before? Demon's Souls still is one of the main reasons I moved to Playstation gaming and I would always respect the beginnings of one of my most favorite series of all time - The Souls series.

However, I think I had enough of Demon's Souls for a lifetime  it's time to put this game to sleep for good. It was an amazing run! Well done once again, Miyazaki, may you bless us with even more swamps in the future.

 

P.S. While I greatly respect the improvements added by the remake, I have to say that I prefer the original, mainly because the game captured the feeling of dread and "Berserk"-like style. The remake has a lot of style, but I feel that it's lost its substance on the way.

P.S.2 The final "souls" stack is Elden Ring, to be played sometimes in the future. I might also play Eternal Ring, some obscure Fromsoft game. And...no I won't play Armored Core, I simply do not like robots ?

💯 No. 60 - Egg Runner

 

Hardest Trophy - 25M Distance - run for 25 meters

Difficulty - 2/10

 

The best part of the events on this site is that sometimes you really find some absolute gems to play, games that you would normally not touch in a million years. Such is the case with Egg Runner here, an autorunner where you are an egg with a single purpose: climb a treacherous tower. Many things will try to stop you: ghosts, bombs, barrels, doors, fire traps, all you have to do is to evade them all and become the Supreme Egg. It's either that or to the omelette heaven.

 

What I liked most about this game is the description "Cute, fun, platform game". It is 100% accurate - the egg is cute, the music and jumping around is fun and there's definitely platforming. The trophy list is pretty simple, all you need to do is get to 60meters while running. The twist is, the trophies do not "stack", so if you reach the 60M mark it doesn't mean you'll automatically unlock the previous milestones. This is why, ironically, my hardest trophy was the 25meters mark, because I was either underperforming (under 20m) or overperforming (over 30m). Took me several tries to get that sweet 25-29 m interval.

 

Other than that - a super fun, super cheap ($1.50) game that I played for the A-Z non-plat club. Because the non-plat games are still games.

Lastly, I'll share my longest run of 162m. I have truly become egg.

Nope it is actually not a shovelware. It doesn't autocomplete your list, you actually need to work for those trophies

Didn't expect the music to go so hard. Combined with the sound effects, it creates a cacophony, but I kind of like it that way. Makes me want to be an egg and run.

Yeah that's why I got the game honestly, i saw some gameplay and the music, sound effect and egg shell crack convinced me best investment ever.

I would run too, but given the heatwave i will end up being a fried egg.

The noise reminded me of the old Miniclip games, where they added every sound possible ? But yeah after 30 minutes of this game I could see how someone could lose their hearing.

Both Enter and Exit the Gungeon have a gun that literally shoots eggs and its honestly one of the best guns in the game.

Not as exciting as Egg Runner, but eh it is what it is

 

 No. 235 - Blade Arcus: Rebellion from Shining

Platinum Name: 完全制覇 I think it says "Complete Conquest"

Hardest Trophy: かなりの勇者 this is Trial mode, I had to do 50 of them

Difficulty: 3/10

Japanese: 10/10

 

One thing that I truly dislike about Playstation is the store specific games. Some games that are available in US or JP are not available in EU. I did not have this nonsense on PC, just saying?

Anyway, with the help of my trusty cousin copanele_san (great guy, he also loves cats), I managed to get Blade Arcus: Rebellion from Shining, a JP-only fighting game that never left the shores of the Land of the Rising Sun. I started it, fully prepared to be assaulted by mediocre gameplay and tons of kanji and....I was pleasantly surprised.

 

As mentioned, Blade Arcus is a pretty solid fighting game. You have a roster with 21 characters, each with their own unique abilities and powers. During fights, you can pick one main character and one support character to aid you in the fight.

The graphics are serviceable enough ?and so is the gameplay

 

 

 

I know some that would also appreciate this game ?

 

In terms of trophies, the list is pretty basic, the only challenge being to complete 50 trials. Other than that, it's a matter of grinding skills and arcade runs until the various Japanese trophies pop. Thankfully, the guide is detailed enough and it really eased off the burden.

 

I would talk more about the game...but honestly I did not understand a thing  No idea what the story was or what's the deal with all the characters. Also the music is pretty basic high-fantasy music, that unfortunately reminds me of Battle Fantasia. It's not a good game to remember.

So...if you have a spare japanese accountcousin and some free Yen, you might enjoy this game  

 

THE GOOD:

• Quite a solid fighting game
• Fun gameplay
• A diverse cast with unique characters

THE...NEUTRAL?

• The language barrier might be an issue

THE BAD:

• Unremarkable soundtrack

Recommendation: Chaos Code New Signs of Catastrophe  a game that I keep recommending every time I find one of these obscure anime fighters  I enjoyed Chaos Code way too much

 

 

Also I have the weird plan of finding and playing every interesting fighting game possible. Special mention on the "interesting" part, before someone comes and recommends me Power Rangers Battle for the Grid  I am not playing that one

Ask Copanele-san for some Super Sentai and Kamen Rider games then ?. It's a joke of course, but I remember watching a stream with obscure PS1 games. There was some Kamen Rider fighting game, probably one of the best looking PS1 games in terms of graphics I've seen. Don't remember the full name, unfortunately. Who knows, maybe it has a worthy successor.
