As for the MvC 3 platinum, well done! Another one for the endless collection of (tough) fightin' game platinums, am I right? ;D But yeah, considering you were able to conquer UMvC 3 before, I was sure this one was gonna pose no challenge for you whatsoever. The combos have a reputation for being easier here in vanilla than in Ultimate and you don't have to complete nearly as many of them. Now, I am a bit surprised at your mention of clunky controls in the game. I don't remember it ever feeling like that for me, but if you say that UMvC 3 feels a lot smoother, then whoa, I want to try that one out now. Hopefully, I'll have what it takes to pass those combo trials.

 

That MYSTERIOUS STRANGER guy sure sounds like a tremendous pal despite his anonymity. xxD

 

All in all, I also didn't find MvC 3 particularly hard when I did it, and that was at a time when I still sucked big time with fighting games. I still kinda do but nowhere near as much as back then. What really makes the game UR is the cavalcade of ridiculous online trophies that it has. They are a pain to get.

I...think I know what happened. But it's just a weird assumption.

Since I have a disc copy, there's juuust a bit of lag , tiny but noticeable at various points. MAYBE my PS3 was having some hiccups in disc reading. Again, maybe, it might be in my head

Looks like you played UMVC3 on PS4. MVC3/UMVC3 was notoriously known for being laggy on PS3. Most of the tournaments ran on XBOX360 due to that and it was quite a jarring adjustment to play it on PS3 at EVO.

Well done on the DMC5/MVC3 Plats.

 

After reading the DMC5 update I really should go back and Plat 5. Really enjoyed it as a game though and the ending sequences were just a thrill ride. Capcom at it's very best. 

 

Speaking of Capcom, MVC3 was honestly more enjoyable to me than Ultimate. It's probably because I opted to get Ultimate on the Vita like an idiot.

Platinum Name - Trophies Are a Girl's Best Friend 

Hardest Trophy - Not Shaken, Nor Stirred  do an entire level on-beat

Difficulty - 3/10 because I am a scrub and I turned on the "always on-beat" feature

 

God bless the technological advance of the 2020s, for allowing us to play games like Metal Hellsinger (yeah weird intro but bear with me  ).

This game makes me truly believe that nowadays the devs finally have the tools to keep up with their imagination and are finally able to release the most epic games out there. I mean, never have I played a rhythm metal shooter that looks this good AND sounds this good before!

 

The premise of this game is simple yet sweet: you are the Unknown, a demon who had her voice stolen by the game's antagonist the Red Judge. With the help of a talking skull Paz and a wide array of weaponry, you have to confront the Red Judge and enact your revenge via Metal.

 

The game is a shooter with a twist - every action has to be done on-beat. There are several reticles indicating the rhythm of the level on screen and you have to do your actions (shooting, reloading, jumping etc) while on the beat. Managing to do that will increase your Fury multiplier, who will increase your damage AND most important it will increase the tempo of the background song. If you have only the instrumental at the x4 multiplier, when you reach the x16 multiplier you will unlock the vocals, basically playing with the full song in the background. Basically, the better you do, the more goodness you hear. Simple and effective  

 

 

You face several circles of hell, each with their own flavor and enemy variety. In order to battle Judge's hordes, you are helped by an array of demonic weaponry. You start first with your sword and your trusty companion/narrator, the skull Paz, who shoots basic fire pellets. Soon you unlock way more weapons, from a shotgun (still the best weapon in shooters), to dual revolvers, a crossbow and some weird angelic boomerangs. Every gun has a different beat when shooting, as expected, so you will have to readjust every time you switch between weapons, including when reloading. Every level has a final boss which is an aspect of the Red Judge, who will throw you in a literal bullet hell.

 

The game features also a challenge mode, where you unlock various perks that will allow you to better kill your enemies. You have various challenges, ranging from killing grunts under a time limit, to only kill them via ultimates, or shuffle between weapons with each kill, to name a few. For the more hellsingers of you, there's even a leaderboard where you can track your progress and compete with other metalheads.

 

I am not even going to bother mentioning the music in detail because...well it's a clean 10/10 with flying colors and golden stars. It's the main selling point of the game and it delivers tenfold. Just a hint - Serj Tarkan from System of a Down has a song in here as well. If you like metal, this is definitely a must-play.

 

So far, I praised this game greatly. It must have some downsides too, no? What's the biggest flaw that this game had?

Well, I found one fatal flaw when playing. One big mistake that no developer could ever take into account. This particular individual:

That's right, the biggest problem of this game is ME. Bet you didn't see this coming!

I am a tonedeaf fool who loves the beeps and the boops but can't play a SERIOUS rhythm game to save my life. 

So, started the game. UUUH METAL! Started shooting, figured out how to shoot the skull, barely holding the rhythm with Paz. Then I unlock the shotgun and...fuck my life I was messing the timing BIG time. Like atrociously so. All my shots were off the beat, the demons were "look at this dude", Paz himself must have left the game, I could not hold that combo to save my life.

Normally yeah there's a learning curve, but there was a problem too, that I did not expect : I was getting angry. I can grind my head against games no problem but this time I was getting mad pissed, because one off-the-beat shot made me want to throw the controller in the TV (and I swear to all the Metal Gods, I am a calm and peaceful person, I do not condone electronic violence AT ALL).

 

However, there was a sneaky option in the game, called "always on-beat". All my shots were on-beat, if I nailed the timing I got the damage increase. The combo would not steal my sweet music from me. Sure it's an accessibility option, but it would have trivialized the game and turned it into a sick shooter without the rhythm challenge.

 

Well, I took the easy way out and turned that on. It was the most fun experience out there!

Was it cheap? Yes. Is it the equivalent of a pause button in Dark Souls? yep. Did I miss the entire point of the game? Hah, when do I ever get the point in the first place! Did I enjoy the beautiful voice of Alissa White-Gluz? Triple yes with Smoking Sexy Style ranking. Bonus round, I even made @PooPooBlast go "WTF DUDE" so that option was double worth it (no really, I am hit in the head when it comes to these games). As Ancient Greek philosophers would say:

 

 

Conclusion - play this game. It is absolutely EXCEPTIONAL. If you are a rhythm games afficionado, you will smoke this game. If not, heck, it's a super good shooter either way with killer good music Doom style. Proooobably not for you if you can't stand heavy metal or hellish themes...or shooters....or speedy gameplay. But even then, heck what do you have to lose? Game's short anyway so you might at least go for it!

 

All the Baka Mitai karaoke minigame from Yakuza and I still wasn't ready for this ?

 

THE GOOD:

• Everything
• No really, everything
• Music is a blessing from the gods (of metal)
• Gameplay is exactly for the people that want more DOOM in their lives
• "always on-beat" option is for those earless chickens that can't hit a tune to save their marriage ? 
• Feeling more metal than others? you got a leaderboard with various difficulty settings
• Challenge mode is actually hella fire

THE BAD:

• not recommended for those who think that Metal is the tool of Satan to brainwash our children into oblivion - it's 2023, mumble rap is way worse
• Copanele
• Might cause a desire to headbang

Recommendation: Slain Back from Hell  I know, this is a platformer, has nothing to do with rhythm games OR shooting shit. But it's metal!

By the way I don't know if you noticed but the lyrics to all the soundtracks were actually about the story! Now I know it's hard to understand the lyrics when they're singing like possessed demons so yea I just wanted to point this out . I looked them up online. 

 

I don't have a favourite track in this game per se. I just added all of them to my playlist.

 

And the DLC introduced two new tracks. One was alright but this one slayssss

Yeeep. To be fair, it's hard to make it out when they're screeching for their lungs ?. But yea definitely, each song is sort of describing what's happening in that level. It's pretty neat. 

 

Like against the final boss, the song goes like" IT'S THE ENDDD, TO THIS LIFELESS PARADISE, YOUR DISGUISE!" 

 

Things like that 

 

Anyway, it was fun to check it out and revisiting old levels to see how the lyrics and the story connect

@Copanele you got a good list of games and alot of platinum trophies do you do for 100% psn profile? i really like dragonball and i like also the rpg genre  and some fighting games i am not a fan of horror games i try to do many games as i can

Now that we are talking about Catherine, there's a new bubble tea place close by, I had one the other day, cheesecake + blueberries + cookies flavored and OH MY GOD (same price as a coffee, don't panic) but just to let you know what imma be spending ur money on some time this year???

Back to ACTUALLY interesting games... I see you play Immortal Fenyx Rising. How's the game? Worth the time investment?

You catch me playing rn, the grind compared to other Ubisoft games is not that bad but maybe a lil bit repetitive cuz the same dog different collar, same mechanics but different places/enemies, and all bc of the Hermes's task board you have to complete. But overall the story was nice, that childish touch was amazing, but not so childish bc this game has the dirtiest jokes and comebacks ever, and the PEGI age rating is 12 ?

+ Aphrodite: but you do   *drops mic* 

 

Yeah, that caught me off guard completely, spit my drink everywhere

 

 

But to put it some way, Assassin's Creed and Legend of Zelda had a kid, and that kid's Immortal Fenyx! 

 

And there are no actually collectibles-related trophies, but you need to complete vaults (puzzle dungeons) and get chests and various types of challenges to be able to upgrade everything, and yeah, those are trophies. The majority of the vaults are easy, there're some puzzles that make you think a lil bit but the game is just beautiful. Worth the 40h and I was about to say worth the money too but we have it for free. And oh, the combat is satisfying, and even more when you have the gods's blessings! 

 

AND YOU CAN TAME AN UNICORN AND A FIRE HORSE (just so name 2 of the 25 mounts) and you can fly, kinda.

 

more: you would end up needing just 50% of chests, vaults etc, that's the difference between this and AC and no bugs at all.

Sometimes when the game is not that fun what makes it fun is getting the 100%, I don't know if I'm explaining myself. But yeah we prioritize fun most of the time and imma let you guys here for a bit, need to finish the grind
