Far Cry 4: Wow, the ending was, sort of... anticlimactic. Overall, the main game was ok. So far, out of the FC games I have played Blood Dragon (it was meh), New Dawn (loved it) and this one (just ok), which means it's either a hit or miss with me. I also have Primal in my backlog, I think it's a spin-off inspired by the Shangri-La missions in FC4. Is that correct? Is it like those missions? Because frankly they were my least favorite missions in the game, so that's a bummer if it's like that. But maybe it's different when the whole game plays like that.

 

Anyway, I'll have one more final update when I finish the DLC.

Hi guys. Hope you've had a good week. This week I've completed the campaign for Tales of Arise, taking a brief break before going back for post game trophies as I felt a bit over saturated, moving through the games last few dungeons and story arcs in a matter of days. Since Friday I've been playing a lot of Dying Light 2 which I'm enjoying so far.

I managed to finish off the week by completing Ratchet and Clank ?. I enjoyed this game a lot, not too difficult to plat. Although it is a little bit of a grind to save up enough bolts to get every weapon upgrade, and then to max out their levels and modifications, but only took a couple of hours so not that bad overall. I would recommend this game if you're looking for some simple and light-hearted fun.

And so with that, I think this is where I will close out this challenge. Two Point Hospital will get completed eventually ?. As I noted in my last update, I've joined a challenge on Discord which started 1st Feb and is running for a few months. I was able to include Ratchet and Clank in that challenge, but unfortunately not Two Point Hospital. So my gaming habits for the rest of February have been adjusted, and I've aligned my Spring Backlog Challenge games with the Discord league from March onwards. I've had an absolute blast during this challenge, and made some significant progress. As always, it's been great to see everyone elses progress too, I love how supportive everyone is here. I hope to see you guys again in the spring challenge ?

9th Update:

 

Enjoyed Yakuza 0, as always some of this mini games are the bane of my existences but I got through them eventually and I brute force my way through climax battles some were so awful... despite that I hate the clean up I still like the Yakuza games a lot so I will be playing some of the others. When for a quick collectible clean up and the finale of Murder Souls Suspect and that's two more games done.

 

I was gonna start Undertale like I mention last update and realized I no longer have it available, so that was waste of swap. Since I started Sherlock Holmes for another event, I'll be finishing that instead.

Hej!

At last I have finished the ME Trilogy, had a real blast with it, especially the last entry since I've never played it before! I loved Priority: Tuchanka, might replay the games just so I can get my scientist buddy to live through it, he didn't have that luxury in my playthrough, sadly..

Down to 2 games left for my challenge, will probably continue Hellblade tomorrow. I have recently felt "the burn" taking the place of where "the fun" should be, and that's no way to be playing games. Might take a bit of a breather playing Pokémon Legends: Arceus, them shiny odds are insaaaaane! Gotten 18 shiny pokémon over the last week  

Sidenote: finished my one swapped game yesterday, this challenge wouldn't feel complete for me without it. Dit it with the Developer Menu method, which is why I swapped it in the first place.

 

Just got over 83% completion on my profile which is a really nice reciept for the challenge, think I started at 78-79% back in August. Thanks for keeping me motivated with your respective tasks and impressions, you make all the difference!

Nice update to start Monday for me!!!

 

Finished AC Unity off eventually after realising I'd missed challenges on 13 single player missions so had to replay the lot. Oops. Overall not a bad entry in the series but not one of the best to be fair.

 

Plague Tale got polished off as well. Truly a game that I enjoyed. I found it so original in its approach which kept me interested. Thank the lord for the material glitch as that saved me time I couldn't be bothered with on Saturday.

 

Will try and put some time into SGW for the rest of the month to wrap up the list as best I can.

Making some progress again! Knocked out a couple more FFXIV trophies, and I've been playing Freedom Wars while watching the Olympics. I got burned out on FW when I tried to rush the plat before the server shutdown, but I'm enjoying it again after the time away. Finally managed to manufacture a few decent Rarity 8, Late Bloomer weapons and get them decently modded and advance leveled. So now the goal is to get them to level 10 and tackle the rest of the Code 8 missions.

 

Freedom Wars and Just Cause 2 are the games I'll be focusing on for the rest of the challenge. I should be able to plat both of them over the next 3 weeks without burning myself out before Elden Ring (and the Spring challenge!). I'll still be working on Rayman Legends and FFXIV too, but neither can be finished in time. Rayman will take at least until mid-March and the earliest I can plat FFXIV is June. I should've paid more attention to that 1000 Levequest trophy...

A week plus with only a vita can lead to some good progress.  Managed to complete Sly Cooper 3 and God of War 2.  Will have to see how I feel about going for Sly 4 or if I pursue something like MGS 3.  

 

With the God of War 2 plat, I now have every plat available for God of War, vita titles included.  First series I've played to completion that has stacked lists.  Look forward to Ragnarok and hope the plat wont be too crazy as I'll be playing it both on PS5 and PS4 to keep the completion alive.  Next series up is Mass Effect.  Only have Andromeda left.

 

I am part of PlatBro's discord competition so I'm currently working on a backlog game not originally on the list(I've really just gotta list everything on the next round).  Bloodborne.  It is a fun game so far.  I can see why it is so popular among soulsborne fans.  We will see if I get any more completions between now and the end of the event, but look forward to attacking a full 45 games list to provide flexibility next time!

Toasty War Journal #20

First week of February didn't go quite as swiftly as planned, but not too shabby either. After absolutely devouring The Forgotten City, I kind of expected something similar with Murdered: Soul Suspect, and sadly that just ain't been the case. It's cool, but the collectibles is kind of a drag. I went in on a "WHO NEEDS GUIDES" kick, and now I sheepishly find myself using one to go back and find everything I missed before hitting the point of no return.

 

A me problem though, not the game's! That'll be done this week though, no problem.

 

Falling back into old habits, dodging RE 5, and that needs to stop. Gotta grab myself and be like "HEY YOU! DO THE THING!" or whatever and get to work. I'll be down to two weeks left before I know it, don't wanna be cutting it too close!

 

Also man, I'm pretty sad to see the Hitman games completed. H3 has a lifetime "Do Not Uninstall" card in my PS4, but damn if I already find myself wishing I could experience it all for the first time again. A brilliant set of games!

I mentioned in an earlier update that survival horror is about as far from what I enjoy playing as it gets, but I had a great time with this one.  The levels are exceptionally well-designed, the combat is satisfying, and the story is quite well-written.  The game also looks beautiful, especially on PS5.  Sam's Story is bar none one of the best DLCs I've played in a long time.  The acting is pretty overdone but it's one of those "so bad it's good" kind of scenarios.  

 

Criticisms are mostly of the technical variety; I did have the game crash a few times and experienced some frame rate drops in weird places.  Also, the trophies in this game are notoriously glitchy and I dealt with that on my Iron Mode run.  My only gameplay criticism is the introduction of the railgun so late in the campaign relegates it strictly to a NG+ gun.

 

Without a doubt one of the best story-driven shooters I've played in the last couple of years, and I'm really glad I picked it up.  8/10 overall.

 

Progress Updates:  I spent most of the past week deviating from this challenge.  Finally got around to finishing up the platinum for Hitman 3 meaning I have every trophy in the World of Assassination trilogy.  Surprised Hitman 3 still is this buggy a year after launch; the Mendoza level in particular is a nightmare and I had several trophies unlock before I'd completed the requirements for them.  That being said, it's overall a great conclusion to one of my favorite series of games and I'm really looking forward to what IOI has in store for their 007 game they're working on.

Well I've sort of lost steam with this challenge right at the end! I'm still proud of the games I did complete, especially Dark Souls, Sekiro and Kena. Funnily enough I think Kena was the hardest of the three (stupid Master!).

 

This year I'm focusing in my actual backlog which includes a lot of eneligible games so I'll be sitting out the rest of this one and also Spring. Should be back for Autumn once my contract for work is up and I'll have some spare time! Studying and working full time is not the easiest ?

Time for another update..... It's been a while, right?

 

Before I get into this though - I know loads of you lovely folk have already sent loads of support to  @DFuzed ......  I'm a bit late on this one, but I'm so sorry for your loss, I was really gutted to hear you had to deal with that. I hope that you're taking care of yourself though, and that things aren't getting on top of you too much.

 

As others have said in some of the darkest of times gaming can be an incredibly welcome distraction, so I wouldn't be surprised if you were throwing yourself head first into that. Hope you're doing a little better now.

 

As far as the challenge goes...... Oh dear! I've let the hour glass run down a little too much here. Can I get through six games in the next twenty days or so? I think possibly I can.

 

I've just used all of my available swaps to make it a little bit easier on myself, because a lot of the games I had left were some fairly lengthy big hitters. I want to end on Lords of the Fallen, not because I specifically want to play it, but because this is a backlog centric event, and it's been plaguing mine for far longer than it should have,so I'd like to end on that if I can.

 

I got overly ambitious I think - which I'm perfectly fine admitting. Well that, and Yakuza 3 got in the way, which I'll get to shortly.

 

So going forward, I'll try my best to get to those 25 completed games with the time left - if not I think I'll come pretty close, all I can do is try, and try is what I will do! I'm still looking forward to playing a lot of those though!

 

Thoughts on Yakuza 3

 

What an experience this was! The game itself? A pretty weak entry in the series, to be perfectly honest. But, and this is a big but - this was the last game I had left to play with Kiryu as a protagonist. Because of that, I decided to end it on my own terms. Go beyond the trophies and reach full 100% in-game completion. The 100% in-game completion  took about 35 hours of extra playtime.

 

That's a huge part of why my challenge progress slowed to a crawl. I absolutely got lost in that world, did I love every moment of it? Not quite, doing some of the completion requirements will give me nightmares about baseballs flying towards me for quite a while to come.... If you thought Baseball was bad for the Minigame Master trophy, don't be a twit like me and go for 100% completion where you have to do that another four times, just for some upgrade materials..

 

I very much enjoyed my time with this..... I'll just leave off talking too much about it, or we'd be here all night..... It was an emotional rollercoaster, and filling in that lost chapter (for me) in Kiryu's story was an absolute treat. It was strange how everything kind of fell into place with how the tone of the game and my own approach to it matched up. A happy accident, but a really awesome one too.

 

If you wanted to read my entire in depth thoughts on my time with Yakuza 3 I'll leave a link here..... Fair warning though, it's very long, one of those situations where there ended up being a whole lot to say.

 

Thoughts on MediEvil.

 

This one is a little easier to summarise quickly, I never for one minute expected to enjoy this game as much as I did. I hadn't played the original MediEvil. I'd played MediEvil 2, but this game was completely new to me, outside of seeing a playthrough of it a few years ago.

 

We can thank one of our resident purveyors of positivity, in my buddy @YaManSmevz for getting me so excited to play this, and I'm so glad that I did. If you're looking for a nice relaxing game, then I'd be surprised if this took you longer than fifteen hours, then this game is absolutely for you.

 

It's funny, charming, has personality just pouring out of it, and there aren't too many elements of it that I could see frustrating too many people. As one of my friends said this is "An incredibly fun, chill platinum"

 

Again, if for some reason you wanted to know some of my more in-depth thoughts on Medievil I'll leave a link here too. That one isn't quite as long as Yakuza 3's but it has one less picture of a kid with a bowlhead haircut

 

Keep on slaying your backlogs for what's left of the challenge folks! My progress might have slowed to a crawl a little bit, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been keenly following along and getting inspired by all of your fantastic progress.

Hi again! We're in Feb already, so time for another update.

 

1. Genshin Impact - 73% > 93%
   With the 2.4 update, the unobtainable trophy has now been gotten. Only one trophy left which is for beating the Spiral Abyss, which is a very difficult dungeon that seems to be getting harder each iteration to keep things challenging for even the most dedicated players. I've been consistently beating floor 9 and 10 each time it resets, and this time, have passed floor 11. But haven't managed to crack floor 12 yet. I'm making good upgrades to my characters and weapons though, so I think I'll manage it either next or the following cycle if it's not made even harder.

   More progress made! I've beaten Mercedes' story now. Next up is Oswald.

Maneater which game from PS+ early last year, Ratchet and Clank: A Rift Apart which is a delightful game, and Hitman 3 which I have all the trophies in but am enjoying again anyway! After Ratchet and Clank, I think I'll be back onto A Plague Tale: Innocence, Odin Sphere, The Last Campfire, and Detroit Become Human because they're all games I feel like I've made good progress in and want to get them done before what I've done already is forgotten!

Update #6: Only a few weeks left in the challenge, and I have 3.5 games to complete; it’s safe to assume I won’t be able to 100% this backlog challenge unfortunately. Since my last update I completed Dragon Age II and Bloodborne. For a while, I was stuck on the chalice dungeons for the latter, and decided I’d take a few weeks to clear another game from my backlog (but not a part of this event). After reading about a chalice glyph that’d allow me to bypass defiled amygdala, my desire to complete the game was reinvigorated; I ended up seeing the final ending, acquiring all weapons, killing the queen, and playing through the entire DLC within a couple days. Slaying the Orphan of Kos on my fourth attempt was the icing on top.

It did take me longer than I wanted unfortunately, because I didn't follow the right guide. If anyone is planing on playing this game in the future I would recommend getting all the collectibles on the way, instead of backtracking. 

 

I also started Kena: Bridge of spirits and finished the first play through. I really liked this game and will try to complete in the coming week. I still need to get all the collectibles and do the master play through. I hope master difficulty won't be to crazy, but let's see. Next to Kena I want to play 1 other game, not sure which one it will be. I'm thinking either Ace Attorney or Guacamelee! 2.

We're in the endgame now! 1 more game to go, and it just so happens that I don't really want to play it. I really hope I snap out of the negative feelings I have toward continuing Legend of Kay.

18 days is the deadline, let's see what happens.

 

Hellblade is a game I've been looking forward to play for years, and now I'm left with a feeling of "what the F did I just play"? For me, this game was so damn confusing, and the whole Rune Door spectacle got me to give up a bunch of times and just watch it on youtube instead. I followed a written guide for the Lorestones and even that was just confusing to me. Maybe I just need a breather from gaming at all.

 

I've been weighing if I should join the Spring Challenge or not, and I will probably pass on it to instead play some backlog entries in the +50% department, have my fair share of those too.

These months have been extremely pleasing, and I'm glad I signed up for my first gaming challenge, but now I just need to sleep. What I will do though, is follow that thread and keep getting inspired by you guys, you really are the bee's knee's! And who knows, I just might change my mind!
