Popular Post Finch_III
Updating my card a bit: I'm swapping out Marvel's Midnight Suns for Deadcraft in Orange. Basically, I was playing Deadcraft for the Trophies to Fight Cancer 2023 competition. Sadly, I missed the deadline for final submissions, but it's a great image for orange on my Rainbow. The game itself is pretty mediocre. A hack-and-slash zombie crafting game with a thinly patched together story. Some of the zombie-crafting stuff is quite novel – you can create some pretty funky weapons and followers using both regular and zombie-themed crafting materials. But overall it's kinda tedious and repetitive. I think it took me about 35 hours to plat and that honestly felt about 10 hours too long.
Popular Post slicknick3822
I haven't updated in a long time but here's where I'm at for this year. Probably going to pick up Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion on sale and complete that for Light Green and probably going to give a go to Inscryption for Marooon.
Popular Post pelagia14
Almost done with Card #3, now that I have Light Green completed - just Deep Purple is left! CARD #3 - IN PROGRESS OVIVO Chants of Sennaar Serial Cleaner Mass Effect 3: Legendary Edition Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Killer Frequency Divination Paradise Killer Mass Effect 1: Legendary Edition Untitled Goose Game Man of Medan (Dark Pictures Anthology) Sable Mass Effect 2: Legendary Edition The Mooseman Hades Sable: I enjoyed this game a lot, even though it is somewhat poorly optimized. You play as a teenager embarking on a rite-of-passage pilgrimage to determine what her adult life will be like. The desert landscapes were beautiful - especially with the game's unique art style - and I found the writing to be well-done, with a sort of poetic quality to it at times. It's a cozy exploration with a unique culture (though I wish we had been able to experience more of it). Unfortunately, the game is a bit buggy with its fishing activity, so backing up your save and having some patience is needed for that. CARD #4 - IN PROGRESS I'm probably going to be out of town for almost a week for the holidays, so it's unlikely that I'm going to finish my fourth card. I'm still going to post progress on it until the 31st though, since it's over halfway completed! Popular Post Xylobe
Fourth rainbow done! So far with my others, I've liked to include at least a brief summary of my thoughts on each game, but this time they'll be VERY brief; the longer writeup that my slow ass spent the past week working on got erased by an errant click on a stray "show new posts" popup. I'm not crying, you're crying (I am crying a lot). Spoiler The Talos Principle II Lil Gator Game Castle on the Coast Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy Patrick's Parabox Sakura Wars Marvel's Spider-Man 2 A Monster's Expedition Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Road 96 Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly Bonfire Peaks OneShot Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Mato Anomalies Tales of Zestiria The Talos Principle II = GotY, at least out of the 2023 releases I've played thus far. Lil Gator Game is the best of the increasingly popular exploration-focused "A Short HIke-alikes," and is pretty much faultless in its execution. Castle on the Coast is a 3D platformer with the best-feeling controls I've seen outside of Mario. The Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a trio of visual novels that brilliantly take the puzzle game approach of using a single, repeatable mechanic that can be layered with inventive twists, and apply that line of thinking to their narrative design. It's hard to believe these games are twenty years old! Patrick's Parabox, A Monster's Expedition, and Bonfire Peaks are three such puzzle games, all developed or published by Draknek & Friends. The trio runs the gamut from "pretty decent" to "great," and are ranked accordingly. Sakura Wars is the closest I've seen to a proper romance game with AAA production quality, and I desperately wish it wasn't degenerate weeaboo bullshit. The Grand Imperial Theatre wrings my brain for dopamine like no other game environment has before. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has great setpieces, an engaging enough story that gets reamed by rushed pacing in the third act, and brain-bustingly boring open-world time-wasters. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is the most freakishly ugly game I've ever laid eyes on, but it's a solid metroidvania, and I had a pretty nice time with it once I learned to grit my teeth and bear it. Road 96 is ambitious with its nonlinear, not-quite-procedural approach to its narrative, but I think that ends up taking away about as much as it adds, and it ended up placing a lot of strain on my suspension of disbelief in the process. Coffee Talk Episode 2 is a lot like if Coffee Talk Episode 1 had the number on its title screen incremented. A cute and vibe-heavy visual novel with occasional brewing "puzzles" (if you can even call them that?). More of the same isn't necessarily a bad thing. OneShot is a narrative adventure game that unfortunately had its thunder stolen by similar titles like Undertale and Doki Doki Literature Club! being firmly in "old hat" territory. Shovel Knight is Shovel Knight. I have no fondness or nostalgia for the NES era, but being a modern game with modern design sensibilities make this at least enjoyable, which is more than can be said for the games that inspired it. Mato Anomalies is a JRPG that's down here thanks to its difficulty curve. The entire game is easy enough to be beaten blindfolded, up until the final boss, which is mathematically unbeatable even on the lowest difficulty unless you leave the final dungeon at the very end to go grind for a few hours in what would otherwise be postgame dungeons. Tales of Zestiria is a borderline evangelical spreadsheet simulator, and one of the worst games I've ever played across the board. The nicest thing I can say about it is that, quite distressingly, it's somehow still not the worst Tales game. I'm definitely phoning it in with this one, which I do apologize for, but there's no shot I'm rewriting even a quarter of what I had before. My fifth and final card is only missing a couple of games, one of which I'm planning for a Christmas milestone, so that will certainly be posted at some point before the end of the year. And this time, my dumb ass will write things out in a Google doc first. Also @DrBloodmoney, this doesn't matter literally at all, but I noticed my third rainbow in the OP is dated the 20th of September when it should be the 30th.
ProfSeajay7
If this event repeats in 2024, I'll definitely try again and try it with better games than visual novels. I'm already getting ideas for RED.

Zanreo
Welp, one month left but I've started getting back to this... will probably be doing Like a Dragon Gaiden for white (moving Deeeer Simulator to yellow) and either Smile for Me or Goodbye Volcano High for Deep Purple. Unsure what colors these would work for since they're all over the place (outside of what's mentioned above I still need Red, Blue(my current Light Blue could also be moved to Blue though), Brown and Maroon - though may just use Unpacking for Brown since I saw others do this) Also, would My Big Sister count for maroon? I do mean the background - I guess it cuts pretty fine between blue and green - which is why I don't think it's a great one for either - but it's your card, so if you feel like you can use it for blue in good conscience, that's fine

Popular Post Zanreo
Alright, time for an update, with new games for Maroon, Blue and Brown (and also moving Deeeer Simulator to Yellow to make room for LAD Gaiden which I'm currently working on): For Maroon, I got My Big Sister. Simple quick plat, but interesting story! For Blue, I got Brainwashing Game Teki Paki, a game that comes as a free download alongside the various Toaplan compilations. It's another twist on the "falling blocks" genre of puzzle games - in this one you have to combine 5 blocks to make them disappear, and they can also be combined diagonally! I thought it was pretty fun and it's interesting to check out Toaplan's non-shmup stuff too (though warning: the "Smily block" is annoyingly rapid-flashing) For Brown.... I actually completed this back in July but felt more comfortable adding it for Brown after seeing others use it for that instead of Tan and yet I'm going with a more teal game for blue lmao Unpacking is a chill game where you, well, unpack boxes while moving into a new house, following a character's life as they move into new places throughout their life. Now... I only got White, Deep Purple and Red left. I already got games planned/in progress for the first two, but could use some suggestions for a Red game - preferably something relatively easy and short (but still fun/interesting) considering we're on our last month. (also I don't have a PS5 so no PS5 exclusives) Though maybe I'll just use one of the Kuukiyomi games if I can bother getting through the minigames and finally get those last trophies, or grind out the last plays of What the Dub... It's only about 4-5 hours for a playthrough, and you'll likely have to do two more for all the trophies, unless you get really lucky like I did and get the speedrun trophy with less than a minute left on my first run. Although...it does fill the Maroon slot quite nicely, so you might want to save it for next year, if this event runs again.

Popular Post pinkrobot_pb
This is... quite something, isn't it? But well, so has my year. Or indeed that of myself, my wife and our young daughter. In between our little girl being ill pretty much all the time, my small business basically dying because of that and me obviously having little to no free time this year, my kaleidoscope has turned out pretty underwhelming. I was never not going to complete it though, so my colours are mostly easy and fast games, with some very recent shovelware acquisitions thrown in. Even those last four "5 minute plats" took me almost two weeks to complete and that is pretty indicative. I measure my gaming time in minutes per week nowadays Anyway, I am happy to have completed it. Hopefully next year will be a bit better for us here. Popular Post DrBloodmoney
Adding one to my 4th Card, courtesy of Hotline Miami (PS5)! Still an awesome game, just like it was when it first released - the pixel-art and effects are dope, the gameplay is frenetic and awesome, the tone super grimy and weird... ...and the soundtrack still slaps so hard your ancestors can feel it! Pity the game is a little hamstrung this time around by some issues with hitching and freezing after long stretches of play - but it's nothing a quick close and re-load can't fix, so... ...not the end of the world - but still a bit of a bummer! Best version remains the original, but in a pinch (or a replay) you could do worse than this PS5 version. Decided to do this one specifically to target my final Pink entry for the year - now just a White needing done and I can hold my head high with 4 completed cards... ...Kona, looks like you're up! Previously Completed Cards: 1. 2. 3.
