RUMOR: God of War Trilogy remaster coming to PS5

“According to a new rumor, PlayStation is remastering the original God of War games, aka the original trilogy, for the PS5. In other words, 2005 PS2 game God of War, 2007 PS2 game God of War II, and 2010 PS3 game God of War III may not only be returning via PS5, but returning as soon as next year, 2024. As for the rumor, it actually comes from a source that typically operates in the Xbox sphere, Nick Baker. 

 

"I'm a person for a long time has bemoaned the direction God of War went somewhat, and have yearned for the hack n' slash OG God of War games. I just love them so much. And when I heard this might be happening, I told a friend of mine who also loves the OG God of War games and they got very excited. And I heard we might be getting the OG God of War trilogy remastered on PlayStation.” 
 

can read more in the link above. If this is true, it’ll be a day 1 buy for me. Remember to take this with a grain of salt. Thoughts?

Love the original trilogy and the PSP games as well but I'd rather have a  "remake", something like Crash had, improve the visuals but keep the gameplay and level design. 

But it will probably be a port of the already remastered collection.

I thought that they might since they did remake a lot of the enemy types and set pieces from the original trilogy for the DLC that I could see them re-using again...

If there doing the trilogy they might as well do all of the original games including the handhelds and Ascension so ALL of the originals

I don't think they'll remaster the 3rd one for obvious reasons, Ascension only needs a remaster since the game still looks great. The other ones though, I can see them making remakes with the og gameplay and level design. Sounds like a cool way to introduce new players to the greek series.

This would be awesome, both for the long-time fans and the new ones introduced with PS4 and Ragnarok who're curious about Kratos's past (love both sets/eras of games, to be clear)

Well three already got a PS4 update 

 

if they were smart they’d do two editions. 
 

#1 contains god of war one and god of war two. 
#2 contains ghosts of Olympus, Sparta and ascension

Like, from the ground up remakes? Or just slightly enhanced ports of the God of War Collection on PS3 and God of War III Remastered on PS4? We really need to get the remaster/remake dichotomy sorted out...

As someone who has completed GOW1 over 100 x times, it never gets old for me.

I am most definitely down for the collection if it does actually happen. Awesome!!

I really doubt California PlayStation would leave the games intact... but if they left them how they're supposed to be, this would be nice. Other than the fact God of War 3 is already playable on PS5. I'd rather they focus on games NOT playable at all (1/2, PSP games and Ascension).

The trouble is even though it is sorted the words still get used incorrectly. Here is a quick run down though I do have a more detailed description saved on my PC somewhere.

 

Remake - rebuilt from the ground up while adding in QoL updates and small tweaks, possibly adding in scrapped areas (ex: Dead Space, RE4, Destroy All Humans 1&2, Resident Evil Gamecube)

 

Remaster - an enhanced port using the original source code with QoL updates (ex: Darksiders Warmastered, Resident Evi)

 

Re-Imagining - drastic changes to the core gameplay and or story (ex: RE2 & RE3, Wild Arms Alter Code f)

 

Reboot - New game in a series that attempts to start the series over. (ex: Tomb Raider)

 

I would guess if they do this it would be a remaster of the remastered games from PS3. Not sure they would remake the games from scratch though you never know. Also would be be the entire Greek series or just 1-3?

Hopefully it isn't true. 

 

We already have excellent version of 7 of 8 of the games. The Bluepoint Remasters and Ascension are available via streaming, so it's just a matter of bringing cloud to the rest of the world (shouldn't take more than a couple of decades). 

 

They should at least publish it as a PS4 app, so it could share a Trophy list with the PS3 versions (no need to waste time re-platinuming them to attain 100% series completion). 

 

GoW Betrayal should get an official Playstation release. That I do admit.

I streamed both god of war 2 and ascension via ps5 and they run horrible with noticable framerate drops, audio issues and input lag. Don't know if you've ever streamed ps3 games via Sony's service but it doesn't work well and never did.

 

It doesn't matter what kind of internet speed you have either as even on fiber it's horrendous. When it comes to good games and even games that require precision input I would never rely on streaming.

Played them all so not interested tbh. Let’s make more new games or remaster games that haven’t seen any love. These have already been remastered (every entry in the series up to Accession) and are/should be available on PS5 already in some form or another.

I hope they stop remastering and remaking so many games. 

 

The less PS3 games to be streamed through PS Now, the more reasons for them to shut down the PS Store/PSN on these systems again.
