Popular Post Golem25
Platinum #131 - Tour de France 2021 [PS5] Tour de France 2021 - Obtain all trophies 659 Owners - 43 Achievers for a percentage of 6.53% (average completion; 10.2%) Enjoyment; 8/10 Difficulty; 3/10 Trophies; 2/10 (just one tile, recoloured per Trophy type, and endless repeated requirements - copy+pasted from previous years too) Jumbo-Visma Riders; 10/10 I enjoy watching and, where possible, playing a great number of sports - from football to American football to ice hockey to Formula 1 to bowls (yes, really) to darts - and one of my favourite events of the year to follow along with is the Tour de France. Arguably the most prestigious event on the professional cyling calendar, the Tour tasks around 200 men in very, very tight clothing with cycling at break-neck speeds through the various regions of France for a total length of about 3000 kilometers / 2000 miles spread out across a week or three in July. Up and down mountains, through villages and cities, and past horrific crashes that see more than a few collarbones being smashed to pieces. If that sounds like a fun time to you, then you too might have what it takes to be a fan of cycling too! And if you can stomach the kind of gameplay that sports games bring with them, you might just enjoy the Tour de France 2021 official video game, which is available as part of PS Plus Extra currently and exactly how I ended up playing it. Just be aware that the game, while trying its best to be a proper simulation, fails to really capture the spirit of the sport. FIFA, Madden, and the like do a better job of recreating their respective sports despite their faults (and I should know, I have a fair few of those Plats) where Tour de France really doesn't offer much beyond you either holding the R2 button for hours on end, or hitting circle and L2 to fast-forward and compress what would be a multi-hour event into a handful of minutes. Really, you just sit on your bike (you can't get off), you change your tempo from time to time and steer when hitting a corner, but that's pretty much it. Much of the joy (or frustration) in this game is in the strategy inherent in cycling, from sprints and breakaways to sacrificing teammates and trying to figure out whether you hanging between the leaders and the peloton is a chasse patate or not. If you don't like the sport or are not familiar with it, you are well and truly lost once booting up this game. Graphics aren't spectacular but the game does a fine enough job at capturing the look and feel of the French countryside (again, I should know, I've been there plenty) and UCI WOrldTeams and ProTeams are licensed (save for one) with their jerseys recreated in the game. That being said, I did struggle to discern more than a single character model for the riders, which made things really rather awkward at every départ when every single cyclist looks the exact same save for their jersey. Alas, niche title with a limited crowd, so a limited budget was to be expected. There are additional licenses for some of the smaller events on the cycle calendar such as the Euro Tour, the World Championships, and Luik-Bastenaken-Luik, but the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España are conspicuously absent. No doubt a name change would be required if either or both end up being included in future installments of this series. I'll stop adding screenshots because they all end up looking the same anyway. Being an annual title, the urge to copy+paste is strong for developers Cyanide Studio and they've happily given into it for years now by hitting ctrl+c ctrl+v on the Trophy list. 2021's is virtually identical to 2020, and to 2022 which does have a few new ones tacked on. Nonetheless, such little effort being put in is disappointing and the main reason why I scored the full list so low. The game does respect your time, with difficulty Trophies stacking and requirements being very reasonable, but the Platinum (and most of the other Trophies) is still really rather rare - most likely because this game is so hard to wrap your head around if you're a layman. And if you are, you are better off avoiding this series, because I can imagine it to be a complete and utter slog. Most people who played this game found out the hard way - there is not a single Common rarity Trophy in the game, and considering there is a Bronze for finishing a stage (at 38% completion on PSNP), more than half of players gave up within the first race. If you do not heed my warning and still insist on pushing on, then do not expect a particularly difficult experience, because there is an in-game editor (it's a sports game, of course it'd have one!) which allows you to absolutely butcher the AI so thoroughly that the few Trophies you cannot simulate for will prove easy to overcome. Just a shame that getting to that point is an absolute pain, as the editor slows to a crawl after just a handful of edits are made, forcing you to constantly reboot the game. Other than that though, this game was a really smooth, enjoyable experience and one which I'd have happily stacked if the PS4 version wasn't streaming-only via Plus for some bizarre reason. Already looking forward to having 2022 come to the subscription service next year! And on a final note, have a song. Bonus points if you can tell me which first party title of Sony's used this for its menu music; submit your answer on my profile; Spoiler

Popular Post Valzentia
#90 - Durarara!! Relay Difficulty: 3/10 (but only because I can barely comprehend Japanese) Fun: 7/10 Big fan of the Durarara!! franchise, so I picked this game up (hell, this game is part of the reason I bought a Vita to begin with). The storyline gets progressively weirder throughout the game, even by this franchise's standards...where the hell did the mutant crabs come from? But I did enjoy it at the end of the day, even if it was a pain in the ass to figure out because of three things: my startling lack of Japanese knowledge, the lack of a trophy guide (at least as far as I can see, and I dunno if i'll even write one), and the game frequently crashing (but not always) whenever I tried to manually save. So i'm unfortunately a little bit glad that it's over.
Popular Post AgentSmiz
Platinum 151 - Yakuza: Like A Dragon Got it as part of last months Plus game and certainly got my moneys worth for it. Playtime had to be around 60 hours and, for the vast majority of it, I loved it. It kept me coming back to see how the story went, get better equipment or do the various side missions. They took a risk doing a turn based RPG spin off but it certainly paid off. Endgame grind for the final tower was a bit boring but it's that kind of grind where you can put a video/podcast/album on in the background and almost play the game on autopilot. Downside is that I was originally going to play either Kiwami 2 or 0 after this but now, I need a break from fictional Japanese cities. Plenty more in the backlog to play through.

Popular Post JoaLoft
#298 - Dishonored 2 Fifteen years have passed since Dishonored 1's events. And a new threat emerges to challenge the existence of the empire. In Dishonored 2, Emily Kaldwin has taken up the throne as Empress Emily Kaldwin I following the failed coup in Dishonored 1, with her father and Royal Protector Corvo Attano at her side. On the day of the 15th anniversary of her mother's assassination, a mystery guest arrives among other distinguished guests in her throne room. To everyone's shock, it is Delilah Copperspoon, the leader of the Brigmore Witches (from the first game's expansions) who reveals she is the late Empress's sister, proclaiming herself to be the true heir and usurps the throne. Delilah reveals she has made herself immortal by effortlessly surviving a blade to the heart and petrifies Emily/Corvo (depending on who you didn't choose to play as). It is up to Emily/Corvo (your character of choice) to escape the city of Dunwall as an exile, catch the conspirators, save your petrified relative and retake the throne while eliminating Delilah before she uses her magic to literally reshape the empire to her will. The story's introduction raises the stakes immediately and elevates the narrative experience to a high level - failure is not an option. Setting up the stage in such a way also reveals that Dishonored 2 is the final part of Corvo Attano and Emily Kaldwin's story arcs. And it does so in solid Dishonored fashion. This time, you get the choice to play as either Emily or Corvo, each having their own set of powers. The climax isn't anything too bombastic, but there is a sense of closure once you watched the final cutscene. It has already been confirmed by Arkane Studios that Dishonored has officially been placed on hiatus following the spin-off game "Dishonored: Death of the Outsider". A game which I will be finishing and explaining later as well, but more on that in a future platinum post. One of the biggest strengths of Dishonored 2 is its gameplay. The Dishonored games provide a mix of Thief and BioShock mechanics, sprinkled with some Hitman sugar on top. Meaning that stealth is a big factor, paranormal powers give you an advantage, and main targets can be taken out in a few ways. Freedom is the name of the game. You have the freedom to traverse levels however you want: you go around discovering different routes throughout the environments, unlocking safes and collect antiquities and valuables. This money can be invested at a black market shop for upgrades or supplies, or you could opt to just rob the black market shop. Is there a breakable wooden door you'd like to open, but you don't want to go looking for the key? You can simply throw a grenade at the door and blow it open or use your sword if you obtained the necessary skill. The possibility exists, and it only adds to the flexible nature of the game. There's a new plague to deal with in this game, one that consists of so-called bloodflies. This also opens up more ways to play the game: infested apartments are closed off and more dangerous to explore, but they offer shortcuts to your goals, and you could even possess a bloodfly to quickly move past obstacles. You have the freedom to use whatever powers you want: you can teleport, possess lifeforms, slow down time, sense lifeforms through walls, summon a decoy, mesmerize enemies, change into a shadow-like form and a plethora of other abilities. Along the way you'll find Runes to unlock and upgrade new powers, and find Bone Charms which provide perks to enhance your abilities. If you collect enough whalebones, you can even craft your own Bone Charms to tailor your own playstyle. There is even a No Powers mode available if you want to play a pure stealth experience without special abilities. You have the freedom to undertake optional objectives and discover secret intel to complete your mission more easily. And you also have the freedom to eliminate the main antagonists however you see fit: you could straight-up kill everyone. Or you could eliminate them in a specific non-lethal way, and almost all of these are original and fun to undertake. It all fits in the same gameplay frame of the Dishonored games, because slitting throats ends up giving you a High Chaos rating and leads to the bad ending. Being stealthy and saving as many people as possible - including the main antagonists - awards you with a Low Chaos rating and leads to the good ending. The latter does feel the most rewarding: being meticulous and saving everyone gives you more fulfillment than going on a rampage. And that's a playthrough you must undertake for the platinum trophy: one trophy requires you to never be spotted by anyone, and another asks you to spare everyone. Challenging at times, but a lot of fun to pull off. As with Dishonored 1, both playstyles and the massive grey zone in between provide a lot of entertainment in their own ways: taking the stealthy route caters to the players who enjoy planning and sneaking around, dodging everyone and knocking the occasional enemy unconscious, and eliminating key figures in original ways. Focusing on the lethal approach feels as I stated in the past like a guilty pleasure: all your meticulous sneaking goes straight out the door and you can indulge in firing your crossbow and pistol at anything with two legs, spilling litres of blood, turning technology against adversaries and leaving a trail of corpses in your wake. Final remarks: the areas are generally speaking well-designed, but two manors you will visit throughout the story are amazing highlights: there's the Jindosh Mansion (dubbed the Clockwork Mansion) which is a mechanically enhanced manor consisting of shifting rooms and hallways. You actually see the rooms restructuring when you hit levers. It's a beautifully designed level which must have taken tons of work to create. The second is the Stilton Manor, an abandoned mansion in disarray. I prefer not to spoil what makes this part of the story so great, but let's just say "time is on your side". Make of that what you will. I did experience that there's a bit more trial & error included in this game when you try to go all-stealth early on. You need to be constantly aware of all hallways and enemies in the vicinity. You could get spotted very easily, even on Normal difficulty, and force you to reload a save file if you're going for the "never spotted" playthrough. So my advice? Save often! Dishonored 2 manages to wrap up the main story properly with top-notch gameplay and an interesting setting. Most of all: I applaud the decision to not stretch out the existing story arc. There are still interesting stories to tell in this universe, but for now Dishonored 1 + 2 offer an intriguing and cool story from start to finish, with all the main loose ends neatly wrapped up, and amazing versatile gameplay. Both games now earned a "recommended" badge from me as a whole! Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is the last Dishonored game remaining on my backlog. Very interested to discover what fate lies in store for the mysterious Outsider and the assassin who killed the Empress in Dishonored 1! Most frustrating trophy - Circle of Life Aside from the "No Powers" playthrough trophy, the trophies to finish a playthrough without being spotted or anyone ending up dead, Dishonored 2 does not have a particularly difficult trophy list. However, there is a trophy which serves no purpose other than to mess around with a specific power and pull off a tricky sequence of soul-hopping. The trophy's name is "Circle of Life" and as it implies, you need to cast Possession once, chaining between a human, a hound, a rat, a fish and a bloodfly. First of all, these five main lifeforms need to be in close proximity to each other, which is already very rare. Why, do you ask? Because Possession lasts only for a limited time, and you need to switch from one lifeform to another quick enough before the power wears off. Secondly: why on Earth would you ever swap this quick between all five lifeforms in an organic playthrough? Unless you're panicking and fleeing and quickly retreating by possessing all these creatures in quick succession, you would never get this trophy naturally. Chapter 5 provides the best location to achieve this trophy, but it felt very gimmicky to perform the actions needed. It didn't contribute to the experience in any unique way, and was arguably the only trophy that felt out of place in what is otherwise a diverse and entertaining trophy list. Popular Post Golem25
Platinum #132 - Zombi The Ultimate Survivor - Earn every Trophy in the game 244,019 Owners - 8,105 Achievers for a percentage of 3.32% (average completion; 17.70%) Enjoyment; 6/10 Difficulty; 4/10 Trophies; 4/10 (good tiles, little imagination, difficulty Trophies DO NOT STACK!) Wow, this is exactly like real life London; 10/10 Welp, here I am again - so soon after banging out the previous one. Zombi's quite an interesting game, and an interesting Plat experience. When the WiiU (remember the WiiU?) release towards the tail-end of 2012, Ubisoft was on hand with some launch games. Credit to this publisher, they seem to do this for pretty much every platform that comes out as even the Playstation Vita had pretty strong support from their corner with an exclusive Assassin's Creed game. So too did the WiiU, despite the myriad doubts that surrounded the console before launch and proved to be well-founded post-launch. One of Ubi's games among the 32 launch titles was a game called ZombiU; a survival horror experience played from a first person perspective set in London in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Players would use the WiiU's unwieldy tabled controller to check their map, scan their surroundings, perform inventory management, and a few other gimmicky action that could be accomplished just as well with a controller. The game sold extremely poorly, probably in part due to the WiiU absolutely tanking, its planned sequel got canned, and within three years ZombiU had its WiiU-specific features stripped out or mapped to traditional controllers to allow for a port onto PC, PS4, and XBox One. In the process, it also lost the 'U' in its name, leaving us Playstation owners to play 'Zombi'. Zombi likely sold just as poorly as it did when it was still exclusive to the WiiU, because just over half a year after release it was included as a monthly game with PS Plus (April '16) which explains why it has a quarter of a million owners on this site, and over a million on its in-game leaderboards from what I could see. It since sat in a corner of the Playstation Store priced at twenty smackers, with the odd 80% price drop. At least, until Playstation Plus Extra came around. Sony made a deal with Ubisoft to add its U-Play range to the higher tier of the subscription service to pad its numbers, and Zombi was picked as one of the games to become available. That's how I ended up playing it, and I suspect many other Trophy hunters will be doing the same as games starting with a 'Z' are quite rare meaning that Zombi is an excellent way of making your way into the A-Z Platinum Club. I seem to recall there might be an Ultra Rare A-Z club as well, and Zombi is pretty much the easiest way to get your 'Z' crossed off there, as it's a relatively straighforward experience. Relatively. 'Relatively' is a nice, vague term. It's the ultimate 'Your mileage may vary' word. And that ambiguous nature fits the Zombi Platinum, because either you'll have very little trouble with it, or you'll absolutely loathe the 25 to 30 (if you're lucky) hours you'll spend with the game. The first two issues are with the requirements. For one, Zombi has a permadeath mode that deletes your save file the moment you die so you either have to make it throug the entire game on one life or continually upload your save to USB or the cloud to be able to re-load it. Considering the number of glitches and cheap deaths you encounter in an average playthrough, this experience is harrowing, but not in the way the developers intended. And for two, Zombi has three levels of difficulty - including the aforementioned Survival mode - and each of them has a dedicated Trophy for completing a run.... but none of them stack. So enjoy playing the same game three times, where twice would have been much fairer. In that sense, the Platinum really doesn't respect your time and the experience that much more frustrating. Nonetheless, if you play through on easy the first time through and on Survival the second time, you can really speedrun Normal; my final playthrough took under four hours, which does betray the fact that there's not too much content here. That being said, while I expected to absolutely hate Zombi when I first booted it up, it actually turned out to be somewhat enjoyable despite the developers' best efforts to ruin your life. London looks very life-like, included all the garbage, destruction, and mindless creatures shuffling around trying to kill you to the point where I'd be keen to rename the game to Modern Day Britain Simulator, even if the graphics themselves show their age, and the gameplay loop of scrounging for supplies (there are guns, but the number of bullets you can find is somewhere in the double digits per type) and bashing/running from zombies is enjoyable enough. There's a bit of a storyline to follow that leads to three different endings, and the first two thirds of the game is fun enough. Only when you are forced to backtrack to previous areas for a fetch quest that unlocks the final stage do you realize that, actually, this is a budget title and the developers really do hate you. But still, I had some fun, and going from being rather scared of a single zombie on your first playthrough to confidently mowing them down with your cricket bat come your third run is a very empowering transformation - I felt like I had really improved and mastered the game. The game also has a really novel mechanic where, if your player character dies, you wake up in your safehouse as a new character, with the old one now wandering the map as a zombie, forcing you to backtrack to kill your past self and collect the gear you had on you. When all is said and done, however, would I recommend you play this yourself? I would not. The non-stacking difficulty Trophies are a glaring issue, as are the loads of glitches and the game's tendency to force you into cheap deaths - especially in Survival. I've had to reboot a few times, and there are a handful of glitches that commonly occur and will hardlock you out of completing your playthrough, forcing a restart. Really, unless you absolutely adore survival horror games, your time is better spent elsewhere, and even if you don't like the genre, one of the recent Resident Evil games will give you a superior experience to Zombi. Popular Post slender_adrian
#102 Difficulty: 2/10 Enjoyment: 8/10 Grind: 1/10 Time: 8 Hours Milestone: Fastest Platinum Rarity: [Very Rare 8.5% / Uncommon 35.13%] "The hardest battles are fought in the mind." Great game, Hellblade it's a very dark and depressing game, it has an incredible story and incredible visuals. Totally recommend this game if you are looking for something different. If you really want to go on in this quest with Senua I recommend playing this game all the way with headsets I played the game with headsets and the atmosphere this game creates is unique. The ending was my favorite part of this game, there were parts of this game that were very disturbing and I personally got very anxious on a lot of them, and that's exactly what the game wants. I'll say from chapter 9 onwards the game gets really dark, what happens on chapter 9 was scary and I don't get scared or anxious in horror games (coming from a dude that played dead space as a kid and genuinely had fun with it haha) but I know what's going on with Senua and for me that's what made it scary and disturbing. I can't imagine living like that. I also liked the Lorestones, it was a nice lesson on Norse mythology. I like this type of videogames, were they talk about topics that no one does, and I truly believe that playing Hellblade can leave you something good. Hellblade caught my attention since it came, and now I finally got the platinum for this awesome game. As for the platinum, well it's a very easy one, there's only one trophy missable and it's related to the Lorestones which add a bit more of lore to the game telling some stories from Norse mythology, which I found very interesting and of course I listened all of them haha. Some of these Lorestones can be highly missable even with the game being very linear and highly story driven, so I recommend getting all of them on your first run, it doesn't ruin the experience. If anyone is wondering, this game is very puzzle heavy and the combat is great for the type of game it is, and talking about combat, those fights were ahhh! Totally a great game and totally a unique experience! Spoiler
