Popular Post Trancexistence
#14 - Wreckfest I absolutely loved this game. I was a huge fan of the Destruction Derby games on PS1 and this took me all the way back to playing those games as a child. Enjoyed all of the different race types and racing as a sofa was quite the spectacle The multiplayer was very enjoyable too and I was surprised by how populated the lobbies were. My favourite thing about this game was the damage system and the way the cars destroy themselves. I thought it was pretty realistic looking and has noticeable effect on how the cars perform. This was a lot of fun and I hope we get a sequel Enjoyment: 10/10 Difficulty: 3/10 Total Game Time: 18 hours

Popular Post DesmaBR
#185 (And 9000th trophy) Living Legend Awarded for earning all available trophies. Playing Dragon Quest XI is weird. Dragon Quest is basically Japan's favorite thing, and when you play XI, you truly feel a deep sense of responsibility the devs had for the game. It's something that you just don't get from any other game. Playing this game, it feels like you're going to a religious temple. The production values this game has is completely insane. ... And yet, I don't think I've enjoyed it quite as much as others. I've actually played the Demo of it for the Switch, it was a pretty meaty demo, and playing there, I just didn't feel it. Then I saw this on sale on PSN, and decided to try again. I though "If I actually spend money to play, I might get myself more motivated". And turns out, I was right. It was a bit painful getting back to where I was before, but after I did that it was smooth sailing from there. Act 1 is my favorite part of the game, it was cool going to new places and seeing things for the first time. Act 2 is where things get a bit rough, where you just revisit places you've already been before. I was pretty bored of it, honestly; really had to force myself to keep playing. Act 3... I'll keep my mouth shut, but I had more fun here than Act 2. Of course, this is the Switch version (and the only version you can buy digitally now), which is cool, as it has some very cool features that are much appreciated. If you wanna play the game, this is the version to go. The option for Super Fast speed during battles is a godsend, and the orchestral soundtrack is not that bad too. I still think the soundtrack sucks major dick and it is easily the worst music I've heard in my entire life, but at least they give you the option to put the DQ 8 overworld theme in the S version, which is much appreciated. The S does have some problems that do make it annoying. Main problem is that this is still a port of the Switch ver, so the graphics are noticeably worse than the original version. And the 2D version they added is positively god awful. Major respect for them to remake the entire game in 2D, but... at what cost? You do need to play this shitty 2D for the plat, which is hella annoying. Though my biggest gripe is the fact that this doesn't run at 4K on PS4 Pro or PS5. I dunno what resolution this game runs, but I have no idea how the Image Quality looks so poor in this compared to any other game I've played. Real bummer too as the quality of the assets there is stellar, but it just don't look right. I am glad I've played and stuck to it until the end, but it's not a game I'll ever go back to.
Popular Post StraightVege
Alienated #305 Fans of Housemarque's Dead Nation will probably find something to like about this spiritual sequel, which if the title didn't tip you off, has swapped its enormous zombie hordes for even more immense alien hordes, while keeping the familiar and frantic twin-stick shooter action intact. However, Alienation also introduces RPG elements and color-coded loot to the formula, along with offering three different character classes to choose from. It basically resembles a twin-stick Borderlands or Diablo now, a design direction which I had mixed feelings about, but I'll cover that later. Alienation's tone is largely more hopeful and heroic than its horror-themed predecessor. Extraterrestrial conquerors—referred to as "Xenos" in the game—invade Earth, and humankind is all but wiped out. Their remnants last-ditch effort for survival is to equip a trio of the most skilled soldiers left alive with advanced exosuit technology, and send them off on guerrilla warfare raids into enemy territory. I doubt the story won any awards, but it provides some motivation for you and a couple of friends to blast through seemingly endless mobs and snatch up whatever randomized booty they drop. The few voice performances from your superiors are surprisingly good, too; they sound really genuine. Who are these mechanized infantry? Well, you've got the Tank, a dual-wielding brute who can project an energy shield and obliterate entire throngs of monsters with his lightning attacks. Then, there's the Saboteur, a sneaky individual reliant on cloaking, a lethal plasma sword, and his ability to call down destructive airstrikes. Lastly, the Bio-Specialist is a combat medic, capable of summoning nano wraiths that leech health from the creatures, or she can poison them by releasing a cloud of noxious gas. They're all perfectly viable to play as, but not exactly balanced, since the Tank easily outperforms his colleagues by level 30. In fact, using anyone else is suboptimal, and wouldn't be worthwhile if the trophies didn't require it. Speaking as a strictly solo player, trudging my way through missions was fairly troublesome at times, not to mention kinda dull. While playing skillfully can overcome bring stuck with poor gear to some degree, there's a night and day difference between using some junky rare weapon (blue), versus an on-level legendary (orange) with good cores slotted. It was usually a tedious process of carefully inching forward to trigger the next massive enemy ambush, then backtracking to defeat them—repeat ad nauseam. Now, after I built a maxed out Tank with excellent equipment, allowing me to easily survive on even the higher difficulty settings like Expert, the game transformed into something pretty exciting. Actually getting to that point, though, is the somewhat problematic part. Perhaps playing the phenomenal Nex Machina beforehand influenced my opinion of it towards the negative, but Alienation just felt like grindy drudgery in comparison. Complaints aside, I did enjoy the Gears of War-inspired active reload mechanic, and the control scheme was quite intuitive. Housemarque never fail at ensuring the player doesn't have to stop and think about what their hands are doing; it feels natural, almost mindless. Switch between your primary and secondary weapons via a quick press of the triangle button, or hold it to select your heavy. Conveniently, grenades are mapped to their own shoulder button. The high variety of enemies also pose different challenges to deal with from moment to moment, encouraging (or necessitating) you to utilize your full arsenal as appropriate for the situation. In my view, clearing the combat-heavy stages isn't the most compelling aspect of Alienation, the loot system is. It may appear rather simple upon initial examination, but can actually become pretty wild. Using the finite materials gained by breaking down unwanted guns, you can randomly reroll each individual stat and power core slot on your weapon of choice. The better you manage to make it, the greater your "gear power bonus" stat becomes, which increases the strength of your chosen character's unique abilities. With luck, a weapon's fire rate can climb so high that it empties the magazine almost instantly, dealing insane DPS. Moreover, guns can spawn with absurd perks, such as "boomerang on shot," which has a chance to unleash a powerful spinning blade every time you shoot an enemy. This essentially breaks the game, and it's unfortunate that I was only able to acquire one for my Bio-Specialist. Much it pains me to label Alienation as my least favorite Housemarque game, there's no doubt about it. The RPG stuff is too influential for my tastes, at least when it comes to this genre. I suggest NOT being anti-social like me, and joining some competent co-op partners to play this one, because I'd imagine it's both far less grindy and a lot more fun than going it alone. In the platinum image below, you can get an idea of how crazy end game weapons become, and that SMG wasn't even particularly great.

Popular Post starcrunch061
A few plats en route: Plat #500 - Kingdom Hearts (PS3) KINGDOM HEARTS Master Obtain all trophies. Kingdom Hearts is now over two decades old. That's pretty amazing; I remember it rather well. I was excited to play it back on the PS2, and picked it up day 1 (I actually used to do that!). And I loved it. I didn't love everything about it, of course. I found the gummi ship sections to be nauseatingly bad (I mean, it's a basic shooter - how do you screw this up?). Atlantica was very annoying, as the swimming controls weren't particularly great (and ultimately, it led to boss fights that were just kind of lame). But as the game wound to a close, I very much enjoyed the reveals (yes - there was a point when Kingdom Hearts actually told a coherent tale). The game had solid voice work, and a great soundtrack. And it was just fun to see Disney and Final Fantasy characters yukking it up together. Naturally, when the game was remastered for the PS3, I bought it. I had begun to sour on Square at the time, though; perhaps those darker feelings began to creep in. But for whatever reason, this game didn't age well for me. The control, which seemed perfectly fine on the PS2, felt stiff and awkward. The camera, which was leagues better than other 3rd person titles on PS2 (such as Jak and Daxter) started to show its age. With that being said, I still eagerly played through the title on Proud Mode, completing everything available. I then looked at the trophies...and ugh. I have to play the game again on each of the lower difficulties? Come on, now. I could get behind one more playthrough (I enjoyed the challenge of playing with your initial equipment, although I intensely dislike speed runs in RPGs). But then, I saw the gummi missions. And I saw that I had to finish ALL of these stupid things. So, into the backlog this game went, for literal years. Only recently did I finally decide to dust off my easy playthrough, and finish up those remaining gummi mission trophies. And you know what? The missions...were every bit as annoying as I had anticipated. Memo to Square - stop adding mini games. Sure, you hit a high note with Triple Triad, but that was generations ago. Forcing me to do jump rope, or chocobo racing, or whatever the hell that stupid game in World of Final Fantasy was...that's just cold. Plat #501: Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham World's Finest Collect all of the Trophies Occasionally, I have an urge to play a Lego game. In the past, I would fire up Lego Marvel Superheroes on the PS3. It would crash on me, and my urge would vanish. But recently, PS+ added DC Supervillains to its "free" game list, and I found that I rather enjoyed it. Further, the DLC was deeply discounted at $2.99, and I found I enjoyed THAT, as well. So when I saw that Lego Batman 3 was on PS+ Extra, and its DLC was also discounted to $2.99, I decided again to take the plunge. And, I enjoyed it, but...less. I don't know, but for whatever reason, I had real problems figuring out what the heck the game wanted me to do. It didn't help that sometimes, it would glitch out a bit, so I finally had to get a guide for the main game. But outside of that, it was...pretty much the same game as DC Supervillains. Adam West is in it quite a bit, and I really loved that. Kevin Smith is also in it, and I can't stand him, so I always killed his Lego character. Hilariously, at some point, he revived as a skeleton. I guess lots of people have the same urge when they hear his voice. Collectibles are generally reasonable to find (though there are hilarious exceptions). The races are rather simple. One thing I didn't like was that some characters (like Superman, Martian Manhunter, etc.) had the ability to transform into a different form. However, this transformation used the triangle button...which is the same as the button to switch characters. Thus, you had to watch the transformation, only later being able to switch. For this reason, I loved using Bizarro and Power Girl. Probably the best character in the game was Krypto. He could fly. He was invulnerable. He had heat vision. But he also could dig, and even do puzzles with his x-ray vision. If he had been able to use switchs or talk to other characters, I may never have switched from him in the entire game. The DLC was solid enough. I enjoyed Bizarro's DLC - I just find the Lego Bizarro to be funny. But all in all, it was a perfectly fine ride. Plat #502: Choice of Life: Middle Ages Immortal Get all prizes I admit it; I'm a sucker for Choose Your Own Adventure tales. And while there is a little of that in a lot of games, there have been (surprisingly) few titles which were pure choose your own adventure nonsense. A recent offering was Swordbreaker, which was fine, but rather simplistic. Choice of Life, however, captures the feeling best of all. Starting as a small peasant child, you grow into quite a number of different professions, and ultimately determine the fate of your kingdom. Getting into one profession will lock you out of others, so you have genuine life paths to take. Happily, the devs give you the opportunity to visit multiple points in your various pasts, so if you end up a blacksmith, but really wanted to be a potter, it's easy enough to do so. As you play, you come across important life decisions, as well as a plethora of small, throwaway choices. I'm not sure I found all of these, to be honest, and that's a good thing. The game recalls which choices you've made, and some choices have different outcomes, depending on various items or skills you have picked up along the way. For example, a large stone face might ask if you're the king or merely an ordinary man. If you choose the king, he will punish you for your lie...unless you happen to have picked up an apple, which is his favorite food (and a fact known only to the king). The game isn't difficult, and the trophies encourage you to explore all choices available. All in all, you could plat it in an hour or so with a guide, but it's a blast without one. It's currently on (slight) discount, and recommended for a breather game, particularly if you want a relaxing plat that doesn't have the word "Jumping" in it. Happy gaming!

Popular Post KenjiCBZ
#80: forma.8 formed Adventurer (12.05% - Rare) Unlock all other trophies This is a game that was given with PS+ some years ago, and for some reason, it stuck with me, despite the fact that I did not redeem it since I wasn't interested in it enough. However few days ago, I remembered about it and I decided to purchase it and to give it a try. It is definitely not my kind of game, but it's not that bad and it was ok to play on the Vita. I think the game has a very confusing layout and it's very easy to get lost on the map, that's why I played it by following a guide, as I really didn't want to get crazy trying to find the right route. However, for some reason, I did not unlock a Trophy that was unlocked in the video, and it turned out that the Trophy is actually missable and has to be unlocked before finishing the game. Unfortunately, there was no way to unlock it after the game is over which means that I was screwed and I had to start a new run. This time, I barely needed the video as I remembered what I had to do, and thankfully it didn't take long before I reached the point where I could unlock the Trophy. Glad to be done with it, and now onto Gravity Rush on the Vita. ?? Edited September 8, 2022 by KenjiCBZ
