Popular Post parkerdip
#100 - The Last of Us Part I (PS5) First trophy - 17th September 2022 Platinum - 3rd April 2024 Time taken - 1 Year, 6 Months, 2 Weeks Finally after over 15 years I have made it to my 100th platinum trophy! I don't usually plan milestones but I felt I had to go out my way to achieve it in one of my favourite games. Also it has a platinum name that I think suits the milestone: 'It can't be for nothing' This is my 3rd copy of The Last of Us. Owning the original on PS3, the remastered on PS4 and this supposed remake on PS5. To be honest it doesn't really feel like a remake they made it out to be but the game is so good I couldn't resist getting it again. The platinum is much more achievable on this version without the multiplayer which is why I only have the platinum on this version. This was also my 3rd platinum of 2024.
Popular Post Darghel
#213: Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Difficulty: Very easy. Too easy I might add. Time to Complete: about 140-150 hours (DLC included) Recommended: yes for the base game. DLC MAYBE with a big discount Total score: 9/10 Damn, I don't remember the last time I spent so much on a jrpg that wasn't an MMORPG or an online shooter. Despite the breaks I took from time to time, I practically played this game for 2 months straight, and just yesterday I finished my NG+ legendary playthrough after a long time preparing myself for it. And suffice to say, it was a good ride. Now, there are a few things that in my opinion are a step backward from the previous game, but there so many good QoL changes and improvements that it would be dishonest to say "This game is worse". I might say that for the story, which in my opinion is a slight step back from the other, but it wasn't bad or anything. Just less interesting. So, what's new here? Well a lot of things! Combat has been drastically improved Attacks now recover TP You can now move freely (within a radius) to grab on items or attack behind your enemies You can combo with nearby characters Moves have been balanced out and now can draw from the element of your weapon The job system has improved and now you can inherit any skill you want leveling up both jobs and normal levels is much better crafting is a lot better and more straightforward than before Better fast travel and movement through the map, including a "mount of sorts" Dondoko Island is very fun and more relaxing than the managing minigame More characters to choose from (from 7 to 10, including 3 female fighters! RIP Eri, she was my favorite "Quick elimination" for weaker enemies Dungeons are dungeons now! At least the extra ones More interesting jobs And probably a bunch of other things I don't remember. As I said, there are a lot of new things in this game that surprised me. The amount of improvements was astonishing and made the combat a joy to go through. Even the simple battles were fun because of the many ways you could deal with them, and now most enemies didn't have the same resistances over and over (in LAD7 you'd find a lot of enemies having blunt resistances, forcing you to use anything but blunt moves...which weren't many). Overall, the game's balancing is a LOT less frustrating, and I never struggled in any fight whatsoever. Even the NG+ fights in Legendary were pretty easy, all I needed was the right gear and that's it! Now I want to be clear: the game is fantastic, easily my GOTY and I had a fantastic time playing it, doing the side content (like Sujimon battles) and more, but I can't lie when I say that, despite the many improvements over the game, some things felt lackluster. I already said the story is nothing impressive, but this also translates into the game being...too easy, almost boring sometimes. I spent about 150+ hours into the game, I did a lot of the side content, minigames got several jobs at level 99 and made all the final weapons (not at +50 but working on it!), completed every side-story, maxed every stat from Kasuga and Kiryu, maxed out my money (which is surprisingly easy), did the Dondoko Island minigame, you name it...and yet I felt like something was missing once I finished my NG+ run. I wanted to play more...and this is where the game kinda shoots itself in the foot because there's no endgame to this game. Let's get this out of the way: the DLC is a rip-off, you are paying 20 bucks for a feature that should've been inside, and I'm not talking of the extra dungeon - which isn't that great - but about the actual ng+ feature, or at the very least a difficulty slider. To be fair it's not the first game that does this, but it's not about who does it first or last, it's about doing it better. For 20 (well, less, I got it at a discount, thankfully!) I hoped to get a lot more content, a sort of mini-expansion, with at least 30+ more hours of content, but beyond the NG+ stuff it was mostly a flash in the pan...and the 2 jobs are kinda crap too. With that out of the way, here's what's wrong, in my opinion, with the game: The game is surprisingly too easy, even at the highest difficulty Jobs balancing is on and off A few examples, the Action Star is almost identical to the Breaker minus the lack of buffs, and Geodancer is the Chef with more buffs and support But to balance this out, jobs like the Bodyguard were removed as the Samurai is a vastly superior version. The same for Musician, Foreman, and Rocker, with some of their tools moved to other jobs (Musician's HoT, Foreman's fire aoe, and Rocker's lifesteal) However, the girls got a couple of their jobs removed (Hostess and Dealer) and while the Housekeeper is a better Hostess, the girls already have less to work with! Also, why remove fortuneteller?! It had the best lightning spell in the game! Only the Aquanaut has a lighting spell, and it's way smaller! The extra dungeons are incredibly short and don't last more than a few hours While an improvement, the crafting system has the fatal flaw of having no way to get the upgrading mats with money, requiring extensive grind to get your gear up. Dondoko Island, unlike the manager minigame, is less worth your time for money - except at the beginning - and eventually, you'll just grind money from dungeons. Minigames are fun, but way too short-lived and kind of forgettable once finished Sujimon battle is fun but lacks some harder challenges after the tournament is done, and it doesn't take long to get the best sujimon, resulting in things ending too quickly Speaking of Sujimon, the Sujimancer was such a potentially great job...if it didn't take forever to make it good. Plus the lack of a weapon hinders it a lot. Speaking of story, I didn't like how the team is split into two groups that you can't even change. I understand the reason behind it (Makes it easier to manage two small groups), but this also hinders the story as you now have two groups going on, and can be hard to follow Once again, not the first time a game does this (Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits does this better imo) but they should've done this from the start, and not halfway through! I'll probably remember more later, but this is to say that the game, while vastly improved, had such weird choices in some parts that I can't stop asking "why" about it. I can't speak of the story for spoiler reasons, but even the villain(s?) in it are quite lackluster, and I struggled to follow them and their motivation. Some characters come and go without getting much development either, and some of the twists weren't that powerful or groundbreaking. What I'm trying to say with this wall of text, is that the game is excellent in many aspects, but also mediocre in many others, and if it wasn't for the DLC and the lack of content at the end, I would've easily given a 10/10. LAD7 had the TMT, a super hard dungeon with enemies capable of killing you easily if you weren't fully ready, so the grind was warranted. The extra dungeons and the DLC one are really easy and unless you're not geared enough, you MIGHT get some struggle but nothing else. It's...kind of a shame. I hoped this game to surpass LAD7 in everything, but for some reason, I still enjoyed that one more DESPITE the flaws. It felt bigger and the story was gripping. This game feels smaller and the story is forgettable. It's not a bad game, far from it, but it's not as good as LAD7. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth? More like, Like a Drag: Infinite Welp! Yeah yeah, I see myself out after that cringe joke. Darghel signing out <flaps wings>

Popular Post Unlucky_Thir13en
#143: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (PS4/NA) PSNP Rarity: 12.97% Fun: 8.5/10 Difficulty: 3/10 Grind: 7/10 Overview: First Ys game, first Falcom game, first plat in over two months! And I've gotta say, I had a lot of fun with this one. First, the bad. As far as JRPGs go, the story was a bit of a let-down for me. I generally enjoy human/humanoid characters and their motivations, but this one had little in the way of that. Out of six chapters, I feel like it peaked in Chapter 2 before fizzling out and leaving me wondering when the narrative would become suspenseful and exciting again. I know that's mostly a me issue though. It didn't ever feel like the stakes were high, which is a shame because it had the perfect premise for genuine danger to be lurking around every corner, and the amount of characters that were ever in mortal danger reflected that. I also hated the "platforming". It wasn't hard or tedious - it was just infuriatingly obtuse at times. Areas I should have just been able to drop or hop over were walled off, and things like wall-climbing or double jumping would occasionally muck up on me and ruin an entire platforming run. It was a small but noticeable recurring issue. And finally, I had to do two playthroughs for the plat. Technically could have been one, but I didn't want to ruin the experience by jumping straight into Nightmare difficulty on a series I'd never played before. So that second run definitely overstayed its welcome, and the final boss fights were excruciating. Now for the good. Mechanically, this might be the best action RPG I've ever played. Combat felt fluid, fast-paced, and easy to pick up on. The main characters were all fun to play in their own way, though I never felt attached to them past a surface level. The side characters were fairly likable (aside from one who was unlikable by design), and the Isle of Seiren was pretty fun to explore. The side missions themselves were fun for the most part too. To actually see the basecamp physically improve over even monotonous tasks like item gathering was nice and actually made me feel like the side quests were tangibly rewarding. To recruit new castaways and suddenly have more man-power to open up new parts of the island was also an extremely rewarding feeling. There were also all of the standard enjoyable RPG elements (levels, weapon upgrades, armor, accessories, special techniques and levels, stat enhancing items, the ability to farm for these types of items) that adds a near-infinite amount of replay value to Ys VIII, and would have absolutely captivated me if I were inclined to play it without a stopping point in mind. Ys VIII is basically what I wish Monster Hunter World had been. It wasn't perfect and I didn't find the journey particularly meaningful, but it was a lot of fun that made me feel like a proper adventurer, and I can absolutely see myself stepping back into the boots of Adol Christin in the future. This is certainly my GOTY for 2023! I never played a rhythm game, but I have played action games. This one was appealing because it blends both into a unique combat system. I will say that the game was amazing from start to finish. The animations and style is eye candy but has very much substance! The characters are very likeable, the story while simple, was enjoyable to sit through for all of it. The level designs were great to look at and played a big impact in pacing. As for pacing, it was excellent, even after 5 playthroughs I never got bored! That is because every level adds something new, whether it is for platforming reasons, new enemies, new abilities or because the levels are just pleasing to look at. The music is genuinely really good and catchy, especially towards the end of the game. Back to level design, as amazing as it was, its even better when the interactions and background match with the rhythm beat! This was very immersive and had me bumping my head while in combat! The boss fights were awesome as well, some of them were really unique and each had their own theme and personality. Enemy and boss movesets were good and they allowed for strategizing especially at higher difficulties! My favorite enemies are the ones that have "rhythm parries", which means you have to time your parries in order to defeat their final phase, it really amps up the fight! Now the combat itself is amazing and it surprisingly has good depth. Mixing up your combos while staying on beat is the best way to obtain S ranks in battles, while many battles can be troublesome, there is always room for improvements. You can attack, parry, magnet link, call for teammate attacks, special attacks, etc. There are many tools for awesome combos. I will say I love the parry mechanic in this game as it is rewarding just as it is risky. I just have overall praise for the game, because I had fun 100% of the time including the DLC. A 10/10 isn't perfect, but is my highest form of praise and recommendations. Yeah some levels can be prolonged and some attacks may not register even though you are sure you timed it perfectly. Overall I can recommend this game to anyone whether rhythm or hack/slash lover. Even for newcomers of either genre, this game is an experience you don't wanna miss out on, this hits on all cylinders! Popular Post Jorrex
#118 - Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth What a game. Despite having a long ass grind for all misc objectives, side quests and mini-games, the story was beautiful. I'm not even addressing the Brutal & Legendary challenges, those kicked my ass for a while. Definitely one of the better games I've played in a while and loved it. Still find it ironic that the Legendary Bout for Aerith was the easiest of them all, despite being the healer of the group. Can't wait for part 3!
Popular Post Han_PL
Thief Simulator. One of the worst platinums I had the displeasure to obtain. The game itself feels like a 4/10 half-baked stealth game with broken mechanics and a game-breaking glitch that removes your progress and reverts it to before the 2 last jobs and this problem occurs even hours after completing the 2 jobs and continuing with the new story, buying a new hideout, and chopping up cars, etc. If you close the game (even with a guide how to try to save progress, it will not work half of the time) or the game crashes, it will revert to the state before 2 jobs. Its completely infuriating because the game is constantly saving and saving progress when you, for example, exit the car to do the job and get caught. It will load correctly when you exit the car, so why on earth does it remove progress when you hit certain progress during the story? And the fact that this problem has not been fixed since console releases speaks volumes, and your best and probably only course of action is to do all the main missions until the end and pray the game will not crash, so it completely sucks out any remaining enjoyment from the game. Popular Post KenjiCBZ
#129: Wreckfest Master of Crashes (11.01% - Rare) Collect All Trophies. I'm not a big fan of racing game, but this game caught my attention when it was given with Ps+ a couple years ago. Even through only the Ps5 version was given, I decided to go for the Ps4 version since it has a slightly rarer Platinum, but thankfully it was on sale. The game turns out being ok: not the best racing game I have played, but nothing terrible. The main problem I have with it is that sometimes winning races can be based on luck, depending on the AI behaviour, but thankfully in order to progress in the Career Mode you don't need to win in every event, but only to get as many points as possible according to your placement. If you were, instead, required to win every event, the Platinum would have been much harder, and this would have definitely ruined my enjoyment with the game. There are only certain events, called Challenges, where you are required to win in order to earn a specific Trophy, but I found these events easier than most of the other events, and I won them in few tries. Considering that getting first place in every event is not essential, I took my time with this Platinum and it turned out being an ok, casual experience, with a pretty rare Platinum considering the easy difficulty. But again, I'm grateful you are not required to win every event. Way too many things out of your control to handle.
Moridin83
#306 Cookie Cutter This had been on my radar for a while, so it was easy to pull the trigger when it went on sale. It's an indie metroidvania, and it does well with the genre staples. The look is good, with hyper violent finishers to regain health and energy, and a decent spread of abilities, even if they don't tread much new ground mechanically. The story is slightly disappointing. That's not the typical draw for this type of game, but the ending was a letdown, and seems to point to DLC. If we do get more, I might change my opinion on the story, but it's not a deal breaker anyway. If you like the genre, it's definitely worth a look.

Popular Post Trancexistence
#85 - EA Sports WRC This is the first WRC game from EA since they acquired the rights to the licence and I thought it was a bit of a mixed bag overall. One thing I usually dislike in rally sims is how twitchy the cars are and how easily they spin and roll around but I thought the handling of the cars here was excellent and they have a weighty feel that the vehicles in other rally games don't. The game also features some of the longest stages I've ever seen in these games, some of which take from 10-15 minutes to complete. What let things down quite a bit were the numerous graphical glitches I encountered including stuttering frame rates and, worst of all, screen tearing which I found extremely distracting. Especially in a racing game like this, which requires perhaps greater concentration and more precise steering movements than an F1 or a MotoGP game. The career mode is also pretty basic, dare I say it almost felt half finished with customisation options for liveries and my created driver certainly lacking depth. Nevertheless I'm interested to see if EA can build on the foundation they have here when it comes to releasing their next WRC game, and hopefully they can iron out these flaws. If you understand the reference in the game's platinum trophy title then congratulations, you're officially a person of culture. Spoiler Next platinum is going to be either Asphalt: Injection or PDC World Championship Darts: Pro Tour. I'm working on both of those at the moment but they're both a bit of a grind. I'm also busy with Star Wars: Jedi Survivor but I'm only around halfway done with that.
