Seeing as how the Netflix series has been so popular (and a new one focused on Richter is in the works), and the sudden love Metal Gear and Silent Hill are getting from Konami, I'd imagine they're already working on a collection of the DS games and maybe some new stuff too. Or at least that's what I'm hoping is the case, anyways. 1f605.png

Konami's looking for some good PR after the last decade since they're getting back into gaming (casino games didn't pay-off for them most likely). Happy that the Castlevania show did well even though I'm a fan of the post-STON games. Also hoping that Silent Hill gets a proper remaster this time around too!

After the e-Shop closed, the demand for retro remasters is pretty high. I'd love for Sega to do a Sonic Advance Collection and Nintendo is obviously sitting on a gold mine with their own catalogue.

Saw the most hype thing yesterday.

The Nintendo missions and rewards got updated for NSO and you can now have avatars from Xenoblade Chronicles 1! Decided to rock the Fiora one, but it's really cool because they have the old art style and new art style images for those who like the new style.

Absolutely love this as Xenoblade Chronicles 1 is one of my favorite games all time.

Also, you can now transfer Pokémon from SW/SH and Legends Arceus to SV. The online rules allow you to use the Pokémon starting in ranked in July too so if you miss battling with your old mons, you can soon!

Finally finished Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Well...the main story anyways, didn't realize there would be post-game worlds to do as well. But man was that final boss fight an absolute treat. Fun, slightly challenging (let's face it, the game is extremely easy, even on Wild Mode), and just visually stunning...practically an anime style boss fight starring Kirby. Definitely hope Nintendo decides to another Kirby game in this 3D style.

I agree, the avatars are cool. I redeemed them all (I wish the Online app had a "redeem all" button for each category, it's tedious as hell to unlock them all).

Let me ask you something about XC1. I played XC2 first, then Torna Country, then started XC1 before I play XC3 sometime it the future. I also tried XCX in the past and despite multiple attempts spaced out over time, it just doesn't engage me. I think it's too much MMO-lite and too little story for me (or at least too much grinding to get to the story).

Anyway, I got bogged down in XC1 side quests and they are super tedious for me. Is it viable to just ignore them completely going forward, and not get stomped by story boss fights? I don't remember XC2 side quests being this dull, but I'm mostly remembering the Torna Country ones that are semi-required and there they felt more streamlined. Where I am in the story:

Spoiler

Melia has been crowned ruler of her country. For reference, I had a lot of trouble with the Telethia boss fight in the tomb so I'm wondering if i"m underleveled/underequipped.

By the way I like the characters but it doesn't feel quite as focused as XC2 and Torna Country to me. Maybe because I spent too much time on side quests...

Right now I'm focused on Tears of the Kingdom, where the "Side Adventures" side quests are mostly fantastic. I'm really enjoying those ones. Not too tedious, tangible rewards, etc.

I think as long as you fight enemies along the way, you should be okay. You just won't get access to people's extra skill trees,  but tbh, they're very difficult to find unless you specifically look it up and most side quests aren't super engaging or rewarding anyways.

When you get to XC3, do all the side missions or as many as you can. Some of them are imperative to unlocking classes or coins that can be used to upgrade your stuff. You can see the rewards ahead of time so you'll know if it's worth it.

Also saw that XC2 avatars are available now too. Decided to switch mine to a sick Morag avatar. I added a black frame with a dark red background and looks so badass. Idk why, but I felt like the XC3 images aren't as crisp as the XC1 or XC2 released recently.

There's also new GB games released recently. Kirby Tilt and tumble was amazing back as a kid. One of the most impressive GBC games from memory tbh. Really cool to revisit it (especially with rewind). I still can't figure out the jump mechanics thoughon the switch after playingfor an hour or so. Seems a bit unresponsive and it definitely wasn't like that on the old GBC. Maybe it was because I was in handheld, but that's what it's made for! xD

I was playing it for a bit with the Pro Controller...everything works fine except the jumping. I played that minigame where you have to jump hurdles, and it's perfectly responsive....except the jumping. It's strange.

I finished Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective on Nintendo 3DS a week ago. Very cool and unique gameplay, interesting story, great music and characters (my favorites were Inspector Cabanela and the brave little doggo Missile). Some of the "chain reaction" puzzles were surprisingly tricky, I even had to look up a guide for one part. I enjoyed the humor in the game and the animations were simply amazing. It’s rare to see such impressive, fluid, detailed and entertaining animation even in today’s big budget games created with high tech motion capture. Yet this game from 13 years ago (2010), crafted for the small screen of Nintendo DS (that many people consider antique hardware), exceeded all my expectations for motion in games.

I recommend checking Ghost Trick out on Switch (or other platform of your choice) when the remaster releases at the end of June.

Now I'm playing Trinity Trigger on Switch and so far I like it (I'm about 8 hours in). It looks oldish with low quality textures and simple 3D models. The fixed camera gameplay and action combat is pretty fun and the characters are nice. Can't say the story is that interesting but it might surprise me once I play it further.

Been busy with Tears of the Kingdom these past days. Finished the Wind Temple and Hebra region, both of which were nice. The wind temple is the easiest of all and Tulin was a fun character to have around (his gust ability is easily the most useful when exploring).

Also, beat the Lighting Temple and heavily explored my favorite region, the Gerudo Wasteland. The Gerudo chapter may have dragged-on compared to others but I enjoyed it and loved seeing the characters grow from BOTW to now and Riju is among my favorite favorites in the game.

Other than that, I've been mostly exploring the world as I finally charted the Hyrule map, explored around 70% of the sky, and doing some slow-but-steady work on the depths. I completed around 75 shrines, maxed-out the stamina wheel, and got around 12+ hearts. Also been looking for armor and upgrading my existing ones too.

I'm close to beating the game after 75 hours but a part of me still doesn't want to... so I guess I'll keep on at it!

I've basically done all the exploring I care to do in Tears of the Kingdom, so I've been pushing through the main quests the last few days kinda hoping to wrap the game up... and honestly, I was enamored with the game for the most part, and now I'm starting to hate it.

Spoiler

Past the regional phenomenon questlines, the game has just been the most brutally obnoxious gauntlet of boss battles I think I've seen in a game... which is by and far the games worst quality.  They butchered BOTW's pacing.  That game knew when to end... this one blew past regulation, we're in triple overtime now and there's no sign of it slowing down.

I have Diablo 4 waiting in the wings, an FF16 demo to try and FF16 proper to enjoy in a little over a week.  I've been chipping away at it for weeks, I just want this game done.  Maybe I'll set it aside for later when I have the time and patience.

Well what do you know... there's a demo of Ghost Trick available on Switch eShop now. In case the game caught your interest and you're on the fence. https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch-download-software/Ghost-Trick-Phantom-Detective-2338699.html

Going to get Switch Online soon because some retro games came to it that I must have.

Also, wonder if Nintendo will have a Direct before the month's out. They don't really have that much coming after Pikmin 4 and they can't rely on Tears of the Kingdom to keep them going forever..

Awesome news for those who missed out on the 3DS Ace Attorney games-- they're all coming to Switch in the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy

It's an HD collection of Apollo Justice, Dual Destinies, and Spirit of Justice that's coming in 2024. Kind of wished that they'd included the Professor Layton crossover and Miles Edgeworth Spin-offs, but that's maybe for another collection?

Apollo Justice, Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice ports have been very much requested by fans for some time now. I've already played them on 3DS so I'll be skipping them on Switch. Great games, I think my favorite out of them was Dual Destinies. Miles Edgeworth games might very well come as their own release at a later time. For Layton vs Phoenix Wright port they'll probably need to get in negotiations with Level-5 before they can make it happen.

Well, I finally beat Tears of the Kingdom today!

Overall, it was a satisfying experience that was well-worth the wait. Loved the story, characters were a lot more interesting, gameplay was fun as ever (minus weapon durability), dungeouns and new levels were awesome, and the production-values were outstanding.

While technical issues (frame-rate dips, pop-ins, low-res image) and pacing issues at the end were downsides, Tears of the Kingdom is among the best in the series and as of now, my Game of The Year.

I'm really excited to see where Nintendo will take the series going forward. Will they go for three and make an "open-world trilogy" or create something entirely new again? It's a tough spot (as with the Switch), but they always have a habit of surprising fans.

I'll be taking a break from the game to work on my backlog and catch up with the year's new games. I'm eyeing my DSi and maybe check-out Metroid Prime Remastered when I get the chance.

Finished Tears of the Kingdom today as well.

I found the last stretch of the game to be pretty brutal.  It's partially the games fault for basically what I'd consider a false ending considering its shameless parallels to Breath of the Wild, and partially my fault for mentally checking out with Diablo 4 released and FF16 on the way.  I kinda promised myself I wouldn't rush through games and get so frustrated anymore, and this was one I wanted to do a better job of soaking in.  Considering I spent the better part of a full month regularly playing it, I'd say I still did pretty good.

In any case, the game was phenomenal.  Start to finish.  Even at my most frustrated I still loved it, and that speaks volumes.  As was the case with BOTW, the combat and the bosses were the weakest part of the game by far.  If they would've improved it more, or dialed back the nonsense instead of doubling down on it, I'd give the game a 10/10.  In light of that I'll concede to a 9/10.  The game really is a feat, in general but especially on the Switch.  I'm kinda blown away by it.

New Nintendo Direct tomorrow! Queue the Switch 2 rumors again. ?

Ironically enough, playing Zelda TotK in handheld mode a fair bit (still mostly in Docked Mode though) finally convinced me to get a OLED Switch, which I ordered for shipping. The arrival date is tomorrow. I guess I should wait to open the box until I watch the Direct, on the totally unlikely possibility Nintendo announces the Switch successor in it. :)

In any case I don't think the Switch 2 announcement is very likely for tomorrow's Direct, but betting in any way related to Nintendo is a fool's game. Anyway I tend to find at least 1 exciting game in every Direct, and I expect this to be no different. "2D Mario" rumors are trending for some reason (probably "insider leakers" again ?). I'd be up for a new 2D or 3D Mario, although of course 2D Mario has gone longer without a new game, especially if we don't count New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. A release window for Metroid Prime 4 would be cool, as would Metroid Prime 2 Remastered. I would buy MP2 and 3 Remastered on release because those are the only ones of the trilogy I haven't played yet. I made it through the Wii version of MP1 a year or so ago, and I'm looking forward to hopefully playing 2 and 3 with stick controls. Reviewers and some gamers really loved the Wii controls for the trilogy, but not me. It felt like a struggle more than anything.

Something out of left field would be cool for the Direct, like say a Star Fox announcement.

Moving on from the Direct:

I am at the end of the story in TotK, but I'm taking yet another detour (of many) into side quests and exploration. Whenever I start getting bored, I have Fire Emblem Engage half finished to go back to, and I have Pikmin 4 pre-ordered. That's to say nothing of my massive PS5 / Steam Deck backlog. If only teen me knew 40-something me would have the unimaginable problem of having too many games to play. :P

Do any of you still think they'll put Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD on Switch or should I just give up and buy the Wii U versions?

Those are part of that big rumor as well.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Zelda: Wind Waker

Zelda: Twilight Princess

F-Zero GX

Metroid Prime 2 and 3

Have all been heavily rumored to be coming to Switch. Hoping for a confirmation on ALL of these really. Frankly what else is there? After Pikmin 4 the Switch needs something notable...I'm sure people would be all over any one of these.

Okay, predictions for tomorrow's direct:

Lots of Pikman gameplay

Pokemon DLC/TotK DLC (one or the other, not both)

Splatoon 3 DLC gameplay

Paper Mario TYD remaster

Brief Metroid Prime 4 Update

Some 1st party game that no one will see coming

News on upcoming NSO games

"Available today" (Demos mostly)

3rd party games/indies on switch (like Persona or Sonic)

NO news on Nintendo Switch 2. (I think this will be it's own Direct)

I know better than to make predictions on a Nintendo Direct. How many times have "journalists" gotten things wrong and then given the tired old line "plans have changed" (a creepy parallel to pro wrestling "journalists"... there I said it).

We'll see things that excite and things that disappoint. Having zero interest in Pikmin 4 doesn't help my expectations but we'll see.

Heck yeah, Vampire Survivors for Switch! You're in for a treat! We'll probably buy it for Switch too because of the couch co-op.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R looks fantastic. Shut up and take my money.

I also liked the looks of the new action RPG Silent Hope by Marvelous.

Detective Pikachu Returns is probably going to my shopping list too. I kind of liked the first one on 3DS.

Pikmin 4 looks very cute but also very difficult. Pikmin 3 was pretty hard.

What a nice direct even though I was expecting to see something Animal Crossing.
