Popular Post Mr_Fluffy_Pants_
Really good movie, enjoyed this one a lot. I’d imagine they will make a Zelda movie next. Would be cool to also see a Metroid, Kirby or donkey kong movie, but I feel those would be less likely.

Popular Post Redgrave
Thought I would finally dive into the Monsterverse. Truth be told I haven't seen much Godzilla stuff but I still think Godzilla is a cool big lizard. The only ones I know I definitely saw were the 1998 one and Godzilla 2000. In fact I used to rewatch the 1998 one on VHS a lot as a kid probably because I thought the explosions were cool. The only one I feel like I may have seen was the one where there's a part where they use some kind of device on ships to redirect Godzilla's energy back at him but it only made him stronger. I know Godzilla 2014 is known for being disliked because it focuses on the humans too much and you don't see the big lizard himself for quite a while and while I didn't find the human parts that bad or annoying I do understand the frustration of going in to see a Godzilla movie and you only really see more of him at the end. At the same time I also think it showing the human's perspective gave it a kind of horror element with Godzilla and the Mutos stomping around but you don't fully see them. So I think it does work in some ways but yeah I do get that if you're a longtime fan you would want to see more of Godzilla stomping around the city like a big playground especially since I don't think there was very much in the way of big releases since the early 2000's. Godzilla: King of the Monsters felt like it was making up for the criticism the 2014 one got. It's basically bigger, badder, and got much more Godzilla and even more monsters. It's also one of the bluest movies I've seen. You think Avatar is blue but Godzilla: KotM will make sure the color is burned into your eyeballs by the time you finish it. I'm mostly joking since the blue is only really prevalent early on and it does ease up on it later with there being more colors but that said I really liked it. It was cool seeing the other monsters like Ghidorah and Rodan and it felt like they had their own personalities. It also has the human element too but it balances out by having the monsters and the humans get a fairly equal amount of screentime. I also liked the Mothra scenes especially the one where she shows up looking like some kind of golden angel that you can barely make the form of. I don't know much about Mothra but I assume it's accurate to the older films. Godzilla vs. Big Monke was something I remember the marketing for it being where people would pick sides but I knew they wouldn't really have one of them beat one of the other. Still I thought it was entertaining enough however I feel like I made a mistake in watching this and not Kong: Skull Island first since I feel like I missed some context. I do like that each movie does add some more elements to the world like there being that one character that runs a conspiracy podcast and how it shows news segments showing how people react to Godzilla and the other Titans. I also feel like living in this world would be a nightmare because I would just be constantly paranoid about Godzilla and other big monster attacks but it feels like people try their best to keep a normal life going. It's also interesting how the Hollow Earth theory is what the world of this is based on. Now I'm just waiting for another movie series where the Flat Earthers are right. But I like that they go with that idea and mix it in with the monsters, and I don't know if I missed something but I guess they get to the Hollow Earth through some kind of Stargate/Mass Effect drive kind of thing that I assume some civilization built. With seeing these I definitely want to see Godzilla: Minus One whenever that becomes available and I am interested in the new one coming out with Kong again. The last thing I want to mention is that I like how it plays a modern version of Godzilla's theme that I imagine sounds really good in the theaters and I really love the Atomic Breath sound effect when it's charging up.

wolvieware
Watched Ferrari this week and got to say I was a little disappointed. It was quite a dull movie, and how can you make Ferraris dull?! I don’t know much about Enzo himself so it was interesting to learn a bit more about him but if the portrayal by Adam Driver is correct it still completely flattened the atmosphere of the movie. Penelope Cruz did her best to liven it up. The racing scenes were well done but not enough of them for my liking. A graphic, poor CGI crash also gave the movie an anticlimactic ending.
Scaretale
Watched the Gran Turismo movie yesterday. It wasn't as bad as I expected. Tbh, I actually felt quite entertained. Some things seemed rather unrealistic to me and sometimes I felt like the makers of the movie tried to pack as much content into the movie as possible, which made it feel a little shallow at times. Altogether, though, I liked the movie and gave it a double thumbs up on Netflix.

Popular Post Slava
The Matrix Revolutions The review contains all kinds of major spoilers. In the same vein as The Matrix Reloaded, I think Revolutions is not that bad of a film or a sequel. Don't get me wrong, I feel like it's the worst of the trilogy, for a number of reasons, but I still like it. Even though there's not much of the Matrix itself in it. There's no denying that the battle for Zion is the focus of the film. Nothing underlines the bleak and hopeless tone of the movie better than some of the visuals this scene provides. Unpolished metal of the mechs is drowning behind the swarm of killing machines while the clouds of smoke are stuck under the dome of the last human city. Not to mention the view from the "trenches" where characters barely escape the clutches of machines' tentacles that remind me a lot of the Alien films. It's impressive and scary, and it shows what's on the line before we get to Neo's final fight. Speaking of which, it's the most shonen anime-like scene in the trilogy, or probably, in the entire history of western cinema. Comically heavy rain acts as a tool to show how much power Neo and Smith wield - their mid-air attacks create shockwaves that may remind you of something like Dragon Ball Z (I don't know, I watched other shows). I'd lie if I said I didn't enjoy them. And since the fight is 1 on 1, the other parts of it don't rely on the CGI too much - there's only one goofy looking slo-mo shot. The rest is the familiar martial arts choreography. As for the other parts of the film, there are a few that felt out of place, the beginning and the ending in particular. The scene in the subway shows how the programs perceive love, but the tone is like a different movie completely. And the acting - oof. The ending just feels off entirely. I don't know if there were any last minute script changes or reshoots, but if I was asked which scene could be a result of that, I'd name that one. So what about the conclusion of the trilogy itself? I can't honestly say that the resolution is satisfying. Not every question is answered, and a lot of the answers that we get are just quickly thrown in in the final dialogue. They suggest that the Matrix is rebooted, and the humans will be freed (but maybe not all of them). Neo makes the ultimate sacrifice, but he or his successor may return. Everything points back to the cycles. Moreover, the allusions to the second layer of the simulation are still there. I could be wrong, but my guess is that the Wachowskis were more concerned with the philosopy, the symbolism, and just general vibes. Thematically, Revolutions is more of the same. Love and choice are two of the biggest topics this time around as well. Neo's final line "Because I choose to" holds a lot of significance, it's what the sequels spent so much talking about. Meanwhile, Trinity's storyline covers the topic of love. Both things are worth dying for, as shown by the events of the film. Finally, I'll add a couple compliments to the cast. Hugo Weaving is great as always, while Ian Bliss does a convincing portrayal of Weaving's agent Smith as well. Shout out to them.

The only thing missing was the fight being extended by three hours where Smith is about to lose but he then charges up to reveal that he has an Ultra Smith form, and then Neo powers up becoming Super Neo. Believe it or not though, The Path of Neo game that was released on the PS2 does something else not too far off. After Smith gets the slow-mo punch it cuts to the Wachowski's coming in and explaining that they wanted to make the boss fight bigger and so all the Smiths band together to fuse parts of the city to become Mecha Smith. We were robbed of this being the true ending. Edited March 4 by Redgrave

The decision to give Smith (and other agents before him) off-screen upgrades between the movies was probably for the better. 10 hours ago, Redgrave said: Believe it or not though, The Path of Neo game that was released on the PS2 does something else not too far off. Popular Post shadaik
Thought I'd take a chance on something said to be terrible again and I have to say - I have no clue why this is considered bad at all. This is just fun. The story between LeBron and his semi-fictional son is a bit basic and cliché, but it's obviously not meant to be more than a reason to get the Looney Tunes in and throw as many WB cameos in as possible. At most I can complain how the Tiny Toons were nowhere to be seen.

It's also a lot of effort for a movie tie-in game too since I don't think any other ones really tried something like that

Popular Post Slava
Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai Chill hip hop beats to kill mafia to. I appreciate it when old films are brought back to theaters. When would I have watched Ghost Dog otherwise? A year later? 5 years? Now I'm wondering why I haven't watched it sooner. The film's unique vibe, masterful blend of tragedy and comedy, and awesome soundtrack strongly resonated with me. After Paterson and this, Jarmusch's works are 2 for 2 for me in terms of impact. The film covers heavy subjects like life debt, senseless violence, and racism, but at the same time, it feels light as a feather. The scene with Forest Whitaker listening to music while driving the car at night sets the tone. Slow dissolve transitions further add to the mood. But more importantly, the movie takes itself half-seriously. Every character is some sort of oddball. Ghost Dog is cool as fuck, but a lot of his charm has to do with him diligently following the samurai code and acting out his role to the point of doing hand motions with the pistols as if they were katanas. His friendship with the ice cream truck owner is charming as well, the joke of them understanding each other without speaking each other's language landed every time. The mob members are made fun of throughout the movie constatly, and are shown as incompetent bumbling buffoons with their own quirks. Yet, there are plenty of sincere moments that hit you in the feels, which culminate in the ending. Amazing film, highly recommended. If it's already on your watchlist, move it up a bit.
