Free Will is an illusion inside the Matrix, even to those who think themselve sfreed from its machinations. In order to keep up this illusion and make the rebels complete the cycle, it will create a perilous situation that seems random but is indeed fully planned out, rather than do something more obvious like sending in the agents. The illusion of free will has to be maintained to keep the Chosen One on the path to reboot the Matrix thinking they do so by their own choice defying the system. It's all mind games so that, even when Neo knows the truth, he still has hope keep him going and fulfill his function for the simulation. The second layer of Matrix wasn't confirmed in the movies though, as far as I know. But if the fake Zion was indeed planned (and changed before part 3 released), then it explains everything including Neo's ability to control sentinels. I still need a refresh on Revolutions to talk more confidently.

Don_Chipotle
Vendetta (2022 film) - Wikipedia One of the most random cast and most random plot roads from an action film, its a somewhat sad film because its one of the last bruce willis film, over the top acting, but even when there is action, the movie feels a little slow.

ChilledBrandon
The Guest (2014) This is one of those films that just kept on giving the further it went on, what an excellent action film. I absolutely loved it. Great humour, story and soundtrack. Dan Stevens was incredible. He's got great mannerisms and facial expressions. Manages to be charming, cool, cold, ruthless and brutal all at the same time.
chriee
Drive-Thru, awful movie. Was told it was bad, but fun. It was garbage and a waste of time. Low-effort effects, terrible writing, unfunny jokes and annoying music. If Beavis and Butt-Head were real people, they could've written something better.
ChilledBrandon
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) Excellent film from Martin McDonagh. I loved the dynamic between Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell's characters. The blend between the drama and comedy was perfect.

Popular Post Redgrave
I was in a Batman mood and felt like watching these again since I haven't seen them in a while. I haven't read the original comic this is adapting from but I think it's a pretty neat take on how an older Batman would be. I feel like this and Batman Beyond are the only series that really go into an older Bruce although in Batman Beyond he's too old to fight. The setting definitely reflects the time period it was written in. It's got Cold War stuff although not as serious as something like Watchmen, and the street gang called the Mutants have that 80's punk look with the cyberpunk visor on their eyes and they have their own lingo that never caught on. I also like the news segments that add some world building and give some insight into how people see Batman. Frank Miller seems to like doing that because it was in the RoboCop 2 comic that was based on the original script for that movie. The buildup to Bruce becoming Batman again is really cool and I love the iconic shot of him jumping through the air with the lightning strike when he's chasing the Two-Face thugs. Speaking of it has Two-Face in it and I like how despite being "cured" he still goes back to his old ways and it's presented in a sympathetic way. It's part of why I like most of Batman's rogues depending on how they are written since a lot of times they are portrayed as people that could be good people that try to turn their lives around but something happens that causes them to fall back again. For ones like Two-Face it's usually just their own mental problems but some like Mister Freeze feel like they have to. Part 2 brings the Joker back and it's one of the few portrayals I actually find unnerving to watch because it shows his psychopathic nature with how casually he goes about killing people. It's also a funny coincidence that this and Joker (2019) have him show up on a talk show in which he kills someone. The Superman portrayal I am kind of mixed on because on one hand I like how he's portrayed as the bright hero in contrast to the dark and brooding Batman but on the other I don't like how he's basically a government lapdog to the point where he was the one that removed one of Green Arrow's arms when he wouldn't stand down with the rest of the League. It just doesn't seem like something I would see him doing especially since Green Arrow isn't really much of a threat to him but I guess it's more of a Frank Miller thing. At the very least I do think he's still fine and so I wouldn't really put his portrayal here in the Super-Slander category. As far as the casting goes Peter Weller does a great Batman and everyone else is pretty solid too. It wasn't until I looked it up last night that I saw Michael McKean (Chuck from Better Call Saul or the funny Chicanery meme guy) voiced the doctor for the Joker who tries to say Batman is to blame for everything. "Couldn't be precious Batman! Beating them senseless! And he gets to be a hero!? What a sick joke!" The soundtrack I feel like should also get a mention since there are some good melancholic songs however I feel like I'm insane because in the Superman vs. Batman fight there is this song that plays and I feel like I'm the only one that thinks it sounds like this segment in Anakin's Dark Deeds from Revenge of the Sith because I've never seen anyone else point it out. Finally an excuse to talk about Batman Beyond once again. This was probably the first really dark Batman animated movie I saw as a kid or at least I would say it's darker than Mask of the Phantasm. It wasn't until a while back I found out this was going to be a lot darker than it wound up being. The longest running rumor was that it was toned down because of Columbine but this video goes more into it. Despite that it still winds up being pretty dark and I like that the uncut version is the more definitive version. I remember being put off from re-watching it as a kid because of the flashback scene showing what happens to Tim Drake. I think what makes it so effective is how much of a heel-turn it feels. At first there's the section where Batman and Batgirl are looking for him until they are lead to the abandoned Arkham Asylum where Joker and Harley do their usual shtick and it's even played up like a funny scene with a silly sounding soundtrack but then it gets ominous when it shows Tim and his creepy makeover. Even outside of that there are other scenes that are also unsettling but I really love it because it felt like they were pushing to see how far they could go. There is even a storyboard where Terry goes into Arkham and sees the Joker's decayed corpse hanging from the ceiling but I guess they realized they couldn't put that in or changed their minds for another reason. I also like how it bridges the gap between the different Batman eras with the Joker taking advantage of the futuristic setting and Terry showing he is capable of taking on Bruce's greatest foe in his own way by trash talking him back. It's also cool that Terry gets to meet Tim which means he meets all but Dick (and Alfred) in the Bat-family which is unfortunate because they allude to whatever it was that happened to Dick in the movie and the show a couple times but he never shows up unfortunately and neither do they go into it. Ultimately I just really like the setting and the tone of the movie and the series in general. It's that late-90's/early 2000's futuristic look that I love because it still feels grounded and not "too" futuristic. For example there's a scene where Terry goes to a nightclub and it plays this banger and it makes me think of the Afterlife Club in Mass Effect 2. There is also another club scene where it plays this. It's too bad the only game this setting had was the tie-in game for Return of the Joker which wasn't great to say the least. In a more ideal world, and I know I harp on this a lot, but we would have had an Arkham game based on the setting and we could have seen what the Dee Dee Twins look like in Arkham style graphics. They knew what they were doing when they designed the Dee Dee Twins. Overall I give the movie a Schway out of 10. Along with the setting being short lived, the fact we never adopted "schway" into our lingo is proof that we did not advance as a society. A true candidate for best graphic novel ever. Funnily enough I watch Batman Begins this week. I’ve not watched this for well over a decade (next year it will be 20 years old!!) and I had forgotten how good it is. It doesn’t feel dated at all, unlike some superhero movies from the same time, and you can argue that it’s better than many superhero movies today, where the lack of overwhelming CGI means it still looks awesome, whereas AntMan 3 already looks crap. I also love how believable they make it feel for a man to go out and fight crime dressed as a bat. There an internal logic to the Nolan movies that works and makes sense. It was a great rewatch.

Yeah, I should read it at some point. The only other things I read from Frank Miller were the RoboCop 2 comic and the Spawn/Batman crossover he did with Todd McFarlane. The crossover was kind of weird since Batman kind of acts like he does in the All-Star Batman and Robin comic. And yeah Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are still great. I should probably re-watch those again at some point too. Them being grounded looking helps with them being timeless since yeah they don't overuse CG like a lot of movies do now so nothing really comes off as super uncanny looking. It would be nice to see The Dark Knight in theaters again and I would be willing to pay extra for IMAX since I still remember how tense some of the scenes were in theaters with the music buildup

JoocyMan
Just finished rewatching Scre4m; the franchise is probably my favorite of the mainstream horror ones, but I've never seen 5 or 6 so I was refreshing on the old ones. I remembered there's also a show that aired on MTV between 4 and 5, so I'm watching that but I'm only 1 episode in so far. Anybody got any input on whether it's worth watching? I've heard it has no connection to the movies.

ChilledBrandon
Transporter 1 & 2 First film is definitely a lot better but I enjoy both of these quite a bit. I haven't seen the third movie but it's on Netflix so I may check it out soon. They are good mindless fun with a fast paced storyline and I enjoy Jason Statham. He's just got a cool, badass aura about him. His fight scenes are always creative and fun to watch. Edited February 29 by ChilledBrandon

Ninjise
Beekeeper. Like most Jason Statham films, it's a great at just being mindless fun without having much to think about regarding the plot or characters, great action scenes and cheese one liners makes a fun film for everyone that enjoy action on the screen all the time.
