Platinum Difficulty Challenge 2023

@Rebourne07 I heard the servers for Windjammers are down (again). I had planned to possibly use it as my 9 for next year based on PlatPrices. I already have the online trophies.

 

If the servers stay down, PlatPrices will change the 9/10 to "has impossible trophies." So I'll ask now while the 9/10 rating is still visible: can I use this for my 9 next year?

I said I was going to finish Vanquish for my 10/10 but I opted for something arguably harder and did Dariusburst: Another Chronicle EX+ instead. It's a shmup which is virtually the same as the more well-known Dariusburst: Chronicle Saviours. The problem with CS was that it had one hard trophy and the rest of the game was a tedious slog. AC EX+ doesn't have the mode that caused the slog thankfully, but substitutes the one hard trophy for two.

 

Those two trophies are probably easier overall than the one in CS, but they are still tough. Instead of the QUZ route, you have to clear the CGL route hitless. CGL is a shorter and easier route which is nice, but Zone G feels like an RNG nightmare half the time so most of my attempts would end there. The other hard trophy is a boss rush requiring you to defeat 12 bosses in a row while only taking 6 hits. It takes about 25 minutes and I'd really only describe the 1st, 3rd, and 4th bosses as "free". When I finally cleared it, I had no hits left to take going into the final boss, but managed to clutch it out.

 

Finishing my 3rd list earns me OCD and yet another Jack of All Trades, putting me at 26/30 unique badges.

Had to switch Undertale out with Minit. Don't know why, cause whenever I play Undertale I see a game containing a fun story with memorable characters and a great sense of humor but at the same time with a profound theme and decontruction of the RPG genre, yet I somehow keep having to prevent myself from falling asleep when playing. It annoys me a bit cause I see why the game is so beloved.

 

Minit was a entertaining experience though, and the concept I would love to see being build further on a larger project. It had some great ideas but some of the executions were a bit lacking and could easily be expanded upon.

Also finished The Forgotten City on my second list. Great mystery puzzler with a fantastic story and some forgettable token action gameplay. Only play this if you enjoy reading text and listening to long conversations cause that's the meat of the game, but it's really good meat.

 

My guide for Darkwood also got published back in October, so the 4/10 is now officially legit, but I'm gonna switch things around by replacing Lonely Mountains: Downhill with Darkwood on the 5/10 difficulty, and place Amnesia: The Bunker in the 4/10 difficulty for the Spooky Badge.

Big update after finally finishing up Trackmania Turbo, a fun arcade racer that is as much about persistence as actually being good at racing games. Although some of the tracks in this game took me 10+ hours it never felt like I couldn't get a good enough time if I could just race a semi clean lap. I don't think I'll ever pick this game back up after 200+ hours over a few years but I'll probably try out the newer game just to see how much better I've gotten at this series.

I've also been working on my fourth list as new games got guides that fit in to it and got it up to Silver Tier. A few highlights are Tchia which has probably my favourite mechanics in all the games I've played this year in Soul Jumping that lets you play as many things like a bird or a wooden plank and everything in between. Tchia is one of my favourite kind of games where there are dozens of activities dotted all around the map I can just fly around and complete as I please.

 

The next game is PowerWash Simulator  which is the perfect game to play in spurts when you just want to relax and listen to music or a podcast while trophy hunting without worrying about anything strenuous. On the other side if you want the complete opposite in a fast paced, quick reaction, rhythm game you've got Thumper. It's a game that starts off simple but quickly becomes an incredibly chaotic game using only one button and the left stick to the point I needed breaks from how sore my thumb was getting in the later levels.

 

This should bring me to 28 unique badges and 37 in total, we'll see how much more I can get through in this last month or so.

Finished the event! Was glad to be a part of it, and thanks to @Rebourne07 for hosting it!

Somehow... I feel as though the process of finding a good 1/10 was harder than finding something that worked as a 10/10 😂 



Finished up Full Throttle and The Wolf Among Us as my final couple games, and they were a blast! I had delved into Grim Fandango last year, and Full Throttle definitely had the same passion pouring through. Dunno what it is, but classic point-and-click games just have this "charm" to them!
The Wolf Among Us also had a great storyline, it kept me wondering how it'd end the whole way through. A surprisingly fun experience!


(EDIT: Actually, since you're already pinged in this @Rebourne07 I figured I'd ask right away: since this event permits the usage of citing other sites (that are listed) to justify platinum difficulty ratings, I went ahead and did so for GTA 4's "action" genre to complete the Jack of All Trades badge. However, within the Platinum Every Genre event which you also host, it specifies that only listings by IGDB are eligible when it comes to genre. But since that's an entirely different event and nothing states otherwise here, I assume it is allowed when it comes to this event? 😅 Juuuust in case, I'll also use the "open world" theme listed on PSNP for it, since the other event permits it.)

 Finally completed my first list! Hell yeah! Decided to go on with Hollow Knight, as I was going to lose my PS Plus subscription today (29th) and I'm not sure when I'm subscribing again. Do to the time requirement, didn't give much attempt to the pantheons and decided to go with the invencibility glitch, but I can't sse how difficult it must be to do it all legit. I hope to try it when I have access to the game again.

 

The game didn't get me at first, but then the challenge turned it into a really interesting game.

Lichtspeer is now my rarest platinum trophy – my only sub 1% on PSNProfiles. It was very tough, for sure, but I'd probably say it's more of an 8-9 difficulty than a full 10/10. Arguably, the developer were quite generous, as you don't need to get Uber ratings on all the difficulty levels (which would have made it much more challenging). 

 

Overall though, it was definitely a challenge. 

 

Here are the new badges that these games give me (all of the other badges I have so far still apply): 

 

• Spooky: Platinum a horror game in October – Callisto Protocol 
• Above and beyond: Platinum a game with an official time estimate of 80 or more hours – @Rebourne07, I believe you said it would be okay to use Lichtspeer. As, while it doesn't have an official guide, the conditions for one of the trophies is that you need to play the game for 100 hours. That said, I've also since noticed that Returnal has an estimate of 50-100 hours at Powerpyx. So I'm guessing that would count for this badge anyway?

Hello fellow trophy hunters, today i have a big update with 10 games completed today but unfortunately they're divided in 2 lists 😅

I'll put a few words for all games i'm adding to my list 3 and 4 into spoilers so that each and everyone of you can choose which to read but it won't take up too much space

List 3

 

New completed game: Puppeteer (for more info look into the spoiler)

Simply put it's a 2D platformer in which a boy named Kutaro fights against the personification of the dark side of the moon - a bear called Moon Bear King. The game has a creazy story which i understood only during my 2nd playthrough. The amazing thing is that the levels look like a theatre stage and they change around every few minutes to suit the narration. The environments are really different but all 3 of an act share a theme like forest or ocean or galaxy. 12 different bosses which get all a fair amount of air time before their defeated. It's a really cool game. But what's even better: all collectibles are a little story being told. That's what i'll remember of this game the most.

 

Besides that i switch from the PS5 to the PS4 version of The Callisto Protocol but i unlocked the on the same day for both

One of my favourite games of all times. This is the 3rd stack i completed. My Platinum #500. An amazing story about a man smuggling a girl through half the US while civilization is long destroyed but he finally decides to not let her go. She would have to die for a cure for mankind to be produced. This remake wasn't needed at all, the PS3 and PS4 versions look fine already. This Remake felt to easy to get the .

3) Astro Aqua Kitty (Xboxachievements) on 5th Dec

A 2D shoot 'em up about anthromorphed animals fighting in space to collect money and loot. Fun to play in little bursts and some cool but difficult boss fights.

4) Assassin's Creed II (trophies.de) on 12th Nov

A game i hardly have to tell you how good this is. This is the best AC game i've played (i played them until AC IV which is the among the best). Free-Running through late medieval big cities like Florence or Venice is just awesome.

5) Sniper Elite 5 (PSNP) on 5th Dec

In this game you are an US sniper fighting against Hitler's army in 1944's France. The game has really open levels to explore and finish objectives through various possibilities. Sneaking around is a major advantage though so plan your move wisely. I played this with a friend online coop and it was great to fight together against dozens of Nazis.

6) Jak II (trophies.de) on 5th Dec

Jak & Daxter are man and an ocelot fighting against a totalitarian regime in an open world. This one feels inferior in several points for me compared to the original Jak & Daxter. I didn't like the open world it has cuz of backtracking many times during a playthrough. The story is alright but the checkpoints are scarce and this game is certainly several times harder than is good for entertaining reasons.

7) The Callisto Protocol (PST) on 13th Oct

A prison break from one of Jupiter's moons. Advertised as an action horror game, i feel it goes more the action way but i think it's alright. Grab a baton and punch your way to freedom and maybe a cure for mankind from a mysterious desease.

8.) TMNT Shredder's Revenge (PST) on 5th Dec

A side scrolling 3D brawler which reminded me positively of the old Turtles in Time game. The Turtles and their friends and sensei want to stop Shredder from going bezerk in Manhattan. Many different looking stages and bosses to beat for keeping the peace in the Big Apple.

First i want to say i don't consider myself a Soulsborne fan yet here i am with my 3rd Demon's Souls and i have some more like Dark Souls and Bloodborne too. Demon's Souls is just a great, dark, difficult game in which you need to learn to fight against the Undead and restore peace to the Kingdom of Boletaria. Boletaria is certainly worth a trip if you're a knight or a wizard. Otherwise you'll die endlessly and never escape the Nexus.

 

The main reason why i changed list 3 so much is Wet. I have completed it 2 times this year and a total of 5 times by now but i still don't have the trophy for getting all upgrades in 1 playthrough I even got the hardest trophies (gold on several time trials for shooting & running) within a few attempts of them all.

 

At this point i give up the Hardcore and PS3 Master badges. I drop Vanquish and go for Back 4 Blood instead as for difficulty #9 as i can use that two times. But i strive to complete 4 lists this year.
