Popular Post MICSAM89
Third update for 2023 with all the progress I made in March. Two games completed this month still spending most of my time playing Hogwarts Legacy. B1: That you’ve been meaning to get to – Untitled Goose Game Id been wanting to play this ever since it came out, but always got pushed aside for other things then it’s gets added to PSPlus at the perfect time. Now my every dream of being a lovable jerk goose has been fulfilled. It is definitely worth a play if you enjoy puzzle games. G1: Ultra Rare Platinum – Hogwarts Legacy Surprisingly it was everything I wanted out of a game set at Hogwarts, some quidditch would have been nice though.
Popular Post DrBloodmoney
Another entry down! Game: Airoheart Box: "Anthropomorphised Animals" A kickstarted Indie, designed to be a tribute to SNES era Nintendo RPGs (specifically, and unashamedly aping A Link to the Past). It's pretty good - fun, has some good chip-tune music, and definitely evokes A Link to the Past in it's good moments... but it does have some issues - like hit boxing being a bit of an issue, the map being a bit of a chore to navigate at times, and it generally just feeling a little too "the-same... but-different!" Not to mention a pretty ridiculous trophy glitching issue, that resulted in having to do an entire new playthrough to unlock one trophy that I already did... Still though - on the bright side, this is a pretty well made (for a very small team), fun, loving tribute to a bonafide classic - and aside from some frustrations, was a genuine pleasure to play - hitting a lot of real nougat-soft nostalgia beats for me! This one didn't seem to fit many of the boxes I have left - I actually thought this was going to need to blow my "Player Choice" wad... ...but then I remembered ? ? ? that all the special Gems in the game are received from the original "anthropomorphised Animals"... ...they are all received from encounters with Fauns! If mythological half-men-half-goats aren't clearly "anthropomorphised animals," then I don't know what is! ? Popular Post ExHaseo
Bingo #3 Let's gooooooooooooo I1 - That Gives You the Feels - Yakuza Kiwami - I totally understand why this series has such a great reputation now. It's pretty difficult to get me to feel things from any kind of media, but especially games. Since I tend to analyze them as I'm playing and have played so many that it's pretty hard to really pull me in. Since I see everything coming and know how things progress long before they do. This game had a roller coaster of a story that was just fantastic though. I don't want to give anything away about the story, but I highly recommend going in as blind as possible. One of my favorite things about this game was that not only does it have an incredible story, but it also never forgets that it's a game. Most games are either one or the other. You either get a big cinematic story with pretty bland gameplay that you put up with to get to the next story section, or you get something gameplay focused without much focus on story. Or at the very least, the gamey nature pulls away from the story and creates a bit of disconnect. This somehow blended both perfectly. I need to figure out how they did this. Anyway, it was fantastic. I'm not sure if I'll play other games in the series though. The first time I tried Yakuza was Yakuza 4, and it wasn't bad, but jumping into a game on it's 4th entry with multiple characters made it difficult to get into. And honestly, I don't really want to ruin the experience of this game due to what I like to call "Stranger Things" syndrome. Basically, a series continuing, even though it would have had a way bigger impact and been way better if left alone. With each subsequent game/season/whatever slowly degrading and making the initial experience worse because of it. We'll see though. I may play 0 to get the full backstory of this first game. N1 - Has No Platinum Trophy - Hiveswap Act 2 - This is a steam game, so it does not have a platinum trophy. If it needs to be checked, my name on steam is also ExHaseo. Ironically, this game was actually one I started for the "That Gives You the Feels" square. I actually backed this project on kickstarter like 10 years ago. While I've grown pretty detached from Homestuck because the fanbase at conventions completely ruined it for me, I enjoyed it for a long time. In large part because I really connected with someone because of it. We were weirdly close for years. In a way I had never had before or since. But we got into an argument and ended up never talking again. That was about 10 years ago now. Anyway, last I had heard, Act 2 was supposed to be the end of the game. I thought it would be the last piece of Homestuck media made, since the series ended a while ago and I had heard it's creator wanted to do something else. I thought that no matter what happened in the game, I thought that losing that last piece of connection to that person would make me emotional. I actually put off playing this for a long time because of that. But it turns out there's now apparently 4 parts planned. Even though it's taken them 10 years to release 2 parts. Which is already pretty ridiculous, since they're fairly basic point and click adventure games that are only 3-4 hours long. It's also a pretty basic art style, limited amounts of animation, and no voice acting or anything, so there's not really a whole lot of work that needs to be done here. It legitimately makes no sense why it's taking so long. People make games like this in a matter of months all the time. But anyway, it ended up just ending on a cliffhanger. The game itself also isn't that good. It's okay, but it doesn't do anything new or particularly interesting with the genre. So, I threw it into this slot instead. Because of the ending and being an overall underwhelming game, it did not give me feels. Unless you count mild annoyance and disappointment that I've been waiting 10 years for a game I don't really care about anymore that's set to take another 7-8 years to actually finish. That disappointment did officially kill that last bit of connection I had with the series though, and without getting emotional. So that's nice. I guess? Been playing Legend of Dragoon, and was hoping to add that one in too, but that game is crazy long. I just finished the first of four parts and it took at long as these two games combined. And while I am enjoying it, it's a bit rough to play sometimes because of the lack of direction and load times. I usually can't play it for too long at a time before I just get annoyed at how slow everything is. I'm also about to start playing through all 3 Xenosaga games so I can sell them if I need to, so it'll likely be a while before I finish anything else for the event. Especially since we're entering final projects and I wont be playing too many games at all for the next month. Starting this summer, it's going to be pretty intense at school too, so I'll likely have less time overall until the end of the year. I have a full school schedule in the summer and those classes are always more intense. Plus I'm taking more than full time hours in the fall. On top of that, I'm doing multiple independent studies and I have to work on my portfolio since none of my classwork has been good enough and I'll need to start applying for jobs. Since I'm graduating after the Fall semester. Still hoping for that blackout though!

Charizarzar
Also late to the party but sounds fun, will give this a go too! --------------------------- Alright, I have a bit of an action plan now, mostly from scouring through the old backlog. I've left the vaguer ones blank for the time being so I can fit in things I really like the look of, and as I have some guide-writing plans this year some things may be replaced to fit in with that. Few notes: I finished Riders Republic this year but before joining up to this so I'm not sure if that one is allowed. No worries if not though, I'm not against finding a different one to do. Tokyo Jungle just about counts as a non-human sidekick game, I think... I believe you have other animals helping you out on your road to survival. Will be glad to get this off my backlog finally. I probably could be more adventurous with the punctuation one as a title with a colon isn't exactly unusual. Been meaning to get Peace Walker started for a while now but I don't know if I'm in the mood to start another grindy game this year, so I'll have to see how I feel about that one. After reading about the buggy trophies for UNO I may swap it with Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier. New games added below. O5 - My platform exclusive choice was Horizon Forbidden West. Really enjoyed this. I haven't played a lot of AAA open-world games in recent years, and much preferred this to the original. It was unfortunate it released at the same time as Elden Ring really – that was always going to be a tough one to compete with. But I enjoyed this more than Ghosts of Tsushima, which I also played recently and thought was hugely over-rated. As for HFW, I thought the graphics were great, the main quest and stories were reasonably interesting, and a decent amount of exploration and points of interest. Hmmn, having re-read the original post, I think my 'platform exclusive' won't count. I assumed it meant exclusive to, say, PlayStation (not on Steam, X-Box etc), but it seems that it's specific to a gaming system. HFW was released on both PS4 and PS5, so I'm guessing it doesn't count? It's no biggie if it doesn't, as I can slot it in elsewhere (female protagonist). Popular Post Sir_Bee
It has been a while since I have made an update here, but I have finally caught up to Mrs Bee :). Her card doesn't really apply to this competition, as I gave her a handicap in our little competition. If she gets a platinum trophy, she can fill a second square of her choice. Oh, and that would mean she has 1 bingo, and I just got my second. Here is my card: Here is her card: Edited April 21, 2023 by Sir_Bee

Popular Post DrBloodmoney
Another entry down! Game: Two Point Campus Box: "Aliens or Robots" A decent, if slightly too streamlined campus management sim, in the old Bullfrog "Theme-Park / Theme-Hospital" model. Pretty charming, nicely set up, and fairly funny in an incredibly British-y way - it does suffer a bit from a lack of depth in the actual simulation, but makes up for it (to some extent) by just being silly and fun, and pretty fast-paced as management sims go. Was rather pleased when I got to the DLC for the game, and found myself on an asteroid, creating a university for aliens... as it opened up a box for me to use on this Bingo card... ...as can be seen in this screenshot, of a bunch of lazy-bastard alien students half-sleeping in the expensive lecture hall they demanded!

Popular Post ExHaseo
I lied. I'm back. That's Bingo #4, not that it matters anymore lel. B3 - Developed in a Foreign Country - Mega Man 11 - I didn't have anywhere else to put this, so it's going here. Since I live in the US and it was made in Japan. My PS2 is having issues (the power cord seems to be going out, it randomly turns itself off), so I started going through my PS4 games to see what I could sell and what games I needed to beat before I could sell. This is one of the few games I need to beat before I can sell it. I legitimately forgot I had this game before I started going through everything. It had a generic case, and I keep those separate from my complete games, so I tend to forget about these a lot. Anyway, with this I have one again beaten every Mega Man game. Classic Mega Man at least. I still need to beat the Star Force games, Battle Network 4-5-6, X7, and Xtreme 1 to have beaten all of them. At least of the localized games anyway. I'm sure there's some Japanese only games I have no idea even exist. Anyway, this sure was a Mega Man game. It was alright in the grand scheme of Mega Man games. I'd throw it somewhere in the middle. My favorite is still Mega Man 3 closely followed by Mega Man and Bass. The double gear system was neat, but I didn't think it added all that much. I also thought it was really weird that there was no mid-game level. But yeah, it was a classic Mega Man game. If you like classic Mega Man, you'll like this. I've always liked the X series way more, as it did everything the classic series did, but better and with more stuff. So it's kind of a bummer they keep reviving the classic series rather than the X series. Or even just adding the X series changes into the newer games. I really think these revivals would do so much better if they did. I could use a recommendation for my recommended square, if anyone has any recommendations for me. Preferably an incomplete game on my list, if anyone has time to look through it. In the meantime, I'll work on the couple of games I need to beat so I can sell. And hopefully they'll fit somewhere in here lol.

I personally love it but it's definitely not for everyone. Seems like you still play on your PS3 so I'd also say Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon for something a bit meatier but still short. But there are good recommendations above too (it's a good thing this event is only about finishing the story though, because the grind for that Tomb Raider plat is horrible).
Finch_III
A quick question for @Squirlruler on the 'Platform exclusive' tab. Would Returnal count? Given that it was originally a PS5 exclusive, but has since been released on Steam a couple of years later? I'm not really fussed either way, as I've got other options – and I appreciate this is all just a bit of fun! – but I thought I'd check haha. Otherwise, I think I'll just get the Horizon Forbidden West DLC, as I recently completed the main game, and the DLC has only been released on PS5. Finch_III
My April update: B1 – Released in your birthday month. Goddamn, this proved to be trickier than I thought. It seems October is Call of Duty month, and not much else. So, after scrawling through cheap games I'd bought in my back catalogue, I found Neversong, which is advertised as a 'psychological action adventure'. In reality, it's more of a platformer in the mould of Limbo. It was a pretty short and sweet game, with some interesting themes. Completing it was relatively easy (3-4 hours), but the platinum is a bastard, as you have to do a one-hour speed run, a no-hits run and a no deaths run. Still working on the platinum... but for the purposes of the Bingo Challenge, I've completed it. B3 – Releasing your inner weeb. Not too hard for me this, as I watch a decent amount of anime and enjoy JRPGs. I chose Scarlet Nexus, and if I'm honest, I was pretty disappointed. There was loads I didn't really like about it – the characters were very generic; the combat was satisfying at first, but quickly became repetitive due to a lack of variety in enemies; and the side quests were some of the worst I've seen in a modern game. The plot was pretty convoluted too, and the bond episodes felt a bit forced/cringe-y. I know a lot of people loved it though, so I must be missing something! Ultimately, I was pretty eager to get it finished and off my backlog. I pretty much skipped all the dialogue and cut scenes in my second playthrough. B4 – Sci-Fi or fantasy themes. I chose Armello for this, a game that I've been putting off playing for a long time because it has a couple of really difficult trophies. This is a tabletop/card fantasy game, with anthropomorphic animals (shame I didn't have that bingo square!). Each game is only 20 or so minutes long, so it was tough to decide what counted as 'completion'. Ultimately, there are trophies linked to multiple victory types, and a trophy for winning a game with certain characters – so I counted it as finished after I'd done all those (70% trophy completion). It's a really fun little game, although it's going to be a chore getting the remaining trophies for other challenges I'm doing this year. It's an Ultra Rare platinum though, so there's that. I'm still short of my first Bingo line because I removed Horizon Forbidden West from my 'platform exclusive' tile, as it's not technically exclusive to PS5. Maybe next month... If you were asking me, I would say that a "remaster" is not the same as a "reboot". I would say that 2018 God of war, or FF VII Remake would be good examples of reboots (or bloodstained ritual of the night as a spiritual successor which I used). Since the pixel remaster is effectively the same game, I would not classify it as a reboot. That being said, I believe the spirit of this competition is what you feel comfortable with, as long as you can make your case. So if you can make a case for the pixel remasters being reboots, then you should be good.
