Probably my end of year update. First time doing this, it's been fun! I ended up with three lines full.

 

 

• One Word Title - Rollerdrome - When only one word will do
• With an Isometric View - TOEM - Some posters above decided this was mostly isometric so I'll going to go with it
• With Mystery or Detective Themes - Norco - Point and click mystery adventure in the future South. There is even a private investigator
• Sci-Fi or Fantasy Themes - Moonscars - 2D Soulslike dark fantasy
• No Jump Button - The Forest Quartet - You play as a ghost, and there is a "float" button but no jump button
• By an Independent Developer - Thymesia - Indie budget Soulslike with a bit of Bloodbourne style and some Sekiro parry action
• That "Everyone" But You Has Played - Stray - Little late to the party on this one...
• Adventure - Anno: Mutationem - This one is sort of an RPG, adventure, 2Dish action game, but PSNProfiles says its adventure so I'm going with it
• In-Game Weather Effects - Knights and Bikes - At various points there is wind and rain
• Strategy, Simulation, or Management - Hypnospace Outlaw - Late 1990's Internet simulator. Who's ready for Coolfest '99?
• Based on a Non-Gaming IP - Gotham Knights - DC Comics
• Player's Choice - Citizen Sleeper - Going with the freebie on this one as I loved it and it doesn't fit anywhere else
• Play as an Anti-Hero or Bad Guy - Grime - Might be a stretch but you play as a mute guy with a black hole for a head who absorbs almost everyone he defeats. He eventually eats an entire civilization as well as a minor diety for his own gain so I think that counts at least as an anti-hero.
• Frightening/Horror - Dredge - Cosmic horror fishing
• HYPE! - Blasphemous 2 - This was one of my top games I was looking forward to this year. Loved the first one.
• Cult Favorite - Apotheon - I feel this is well known in the platformer/Metroidvania community but not as much outside it. 
• With Gorgeous Vistas - Chorus - There are some cool outer space views as you fly around blowing things up
• With a Number or Punctuation in the Title - Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - The colon
• Reboot or Spiritual Successor - Saints Row - A popular choice

I've had a lot of fun with it. The combat just feels so satisfying, especially with the cool limb-cutting mechanic. The story is definitely interesting, if you pay attention, it at least make's sense to some degree. I recommend this game if you enjoyed the souls games!

 After 4 months without updates, I finally completed the last square and BINGO! Full Blackout. 👁️👄👁️

 

So, my last challenge was to complete a game that I started but didn't finish. It was the hardest for me. If I abandoned a game it was because it bored me too much. But then I remembered that as a child I played "Syphon Filter 3" on PS1 and never managed to get past the first level in the Hotel. Last month I completed the "Syphon Filter" trilogy but only now I realized that I had completed this challenge too.

I didn't think that I'd make it this year but somehow I pulled it off. My final four entries:

 

Tunic will slot in nicely as my Player's Choice. I recommend this game to anyone that... likes games, really. It has a fairly broad appeal and I recommend a complete absence of spoilers / hints from online. Try to figure this one out all by yourself.

 

Picking a racing game led me to enjoy Wreckfest much more than I expected to. It was pretty mindless but that just gave me a chance to donate a third of my brainpower to something else audio-based and doing so increased my enjoyment of both experiences!

 

XIII is from a series that I'd never heard of (and will probably avoid from now on).

 

Z-Warp is the first bullet hell shoot 'em up that I've played since Galaga & Galaxian... I think the genre is pretty slept on so I'll be looking into more popular games to try.

 

 

 

Many thanks to Squirrel Man. This event is so great... no pressure to platinum a game if we don't want to, and yet the bingo sheet offers up a great way to help pick something from the endless backlog to focus on. Bingo works really well with all other events as well. So thanks m'dood 👊

It's been a while and in hindsight I should have played Horizon Call of the Mountain a lot earlier than I did, but I never got into it when VR2 was released.

Probably because I can't get a good image without my glasses and they're kinda in the way.

 

Anyways, the game was fun, especially the clean up run in god mode with zero damage taken and own damage x5. The most annoying part was building all the cairns, thankfully there's only seven of them.

Reboot or spiritual successor: Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 - This is a soft reboot of the Sniper Ghost Warrior series with more of a Hitman style to its missions.

 

Recommended by a PSNP member: Papers, Please - I had a few options for this so I hope I get this option again for next year's card. But I went with one of @Vanqishd's recommendations for when I bought a Vita and wasn't sure what to buy first. Great game!

 

Originally released in 2023: RoboCop: Rogue City - A solid AA title, had a lot of fun with this.

 

Player's choice: Alan Wake II - Another great release for 2023, not that I've played many new ones this year, but this was probably my favourite (but Sea of Stars comes close).

 

Cooperative game: Heavenly Bodies - This game had me raging at times as I slowly drifted out to space having fumbled my grip. The controls are like something akin to Surgeon Simulator and you're forced to play at least part of each level in a mode where you have no momentum and have to push yourself awkwardly along while praying you don't make the wrong move and start drifting in the wrong direction. Still a unique enough experience to be worth playing though.

 

In-game weather effects: Miles Morales - It snows a lot.

 

With a # or punctuation in the title: The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest - Not awful and has some colourful environments, but a kind of forgettable title. Felt about 5 years older than some of the LOTR games of my childhood, yet it came out in 2010!

 

Spawned an expanded universe: Alan Wake Remastered - Has a book and some graphic novels based on it.

Been awhile since I updated and I got quite a few games done! I now have 4 lines completed and only 4 spaces left! I don't think I can finish the entire card before the end of the year, so this may or may not be my final update. 

 

Player's Choice - Jak X Combat Racing: Kind of an odd game to pick as my player's choice, but I wanted to finish the last Jak game I needed for a full series platinum, and there was no other category this game would fit under. 

 

With Mystery or Detective Themes - Metal Gear Solid (Master Collection Edition): So glad to have an excuse to go through my favorite series again with the Master Collection. MGS may have aged a little poorly with the controls but since I've played it so many times in my life I didn't have a problem getting used to them. Excited to try and platinum the other 2 games!

 

Favorite Genre - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands: Action/Adventure games are probably my favorite genre so I would say this game classifies as that. It was a good experience to play through it with a friend but I would say it's on the weaker side for Borderlands games. 

 

HYPE! - Dark Souls 3:  I would consider DS3 to be a pretty hyped game when it was coming out. As someone with very little FromSoft experience, I'm pretty proud to have finally beaten and platinumed this game! Thinking of tackling Elden Ring for my next Soulsbourne game. 

 

Release Your Inner Weeb - Gravity Rush Remastered: Fun game but nothing outstanding. It hooked me enough that I'll probably play the sequel at some point.

It may be the 11th hour, but I beat the story of Yakuza 0 after 215 hours of putzing around, which fills in the square for B3 Released the Year You Joined PSNP! A lot of bangers came out that year, which is part of the problem - I've played a lot of 'em. But the Yakuza series was one I didn't think I'd ever have any interest in picking up. Oh how wrong I was. I loved Yakuza 0, and I'll probably go on to play at least Kawami and Kawami 2, but I'll definitely need a little break before I do so. But I finally finished my first Bingo card!

Finished a few days ago, was not able to post the update since I was away from my PC, so editing the bingo card in my smartphone was probably not the easiest thing.

So here it is.

 

This are the games that I haven't mentioned:

SPAWNED AN EXPANDED UNIVERSE: LAST OF US PART I. Not a lot to say, we all know there is a Series right now that it has been very popular, I think on HBO. As for the game, if you haven't played the og one this is an awesome way to get into it. Honestly I didn't remember a lot of details from the game, you know how human memory can be misleading? Yeah it happened with this game. In addition I have to add the Fireflies were a terrible band of people.

 

HORROR: DPA: LITTLE HOPE. I played man of medan last year, and in my opinion this game was miles better in every sense, specially story wise. I did get some jumpscares too.

 

RETRO RE RELEASE: Stubbs the zombie. I never played the original but did play Destroy all humans, which is a very similar game, probably the same developers, since there is a trophy name joke regarding that game. Basically you are a Zombie and you need to progress some levels to find someone. Very good game, easy platinum, the hardest trophy was very very hard, and that is the Simon says dancing game, basically is not only simon says which it can be easy, but is also a rythm mini game, finishing this is easy, doing that without missing a beat is super hard.

 

MYSTERY/ DETECTIVE GAME. Inspector waffles. I'll be honest this was the category that I was more excited about my bingo card and it was the last one that I did. I was going to do the Sherlock Holmes game or something like that, but this was my last game, so basically I fell like I didn't have that much time, so I picked Inspector Waffles another detective game on my backlog. Very good point and click game to be honest, funny and of course a good detective game. Don't get mislead by the big platinum %, this is a good point and click game.

 

Player's Choice. The Mummy Demastered. Basically picked this because of the image or thumbnail of the game. The game is easy, platinum is easy, and is a metrovania sidescroller shooter. Give it a try, this game is actually good.

 

Coop Game. TMNT Shredder Revenge.  The only game that didn't get the platinum because it was unobtainable for a while, unless you own the dlc, it seems that now is fixed.  I am still going for the platinum but, I wanted a TMNT game on my list, of course I could have picked Sweet Witches which is a coop game also, and I did get the platinum there, but this is a TMNT game so there you go. Amazing retro style game, seems to have some shoutout to the old 2d arcade and console games for sure.

 

Released in your birth month (december). Marvel Midnight Suns. Pick XCom, pick a card game and the Marvel franchise and that's almost this game, marketing was terrible on this, because a lot of people thought it was an actual card game like Hearthstone or those super in depth card games with marvel story and Xcom strategy, of course a lot of people were afraid of this and it seems it didn't do that well on sales :(. The reality is that this is a very easy Xcom game with super heroes and of course to make it have some balance and different moves for each hero the best way was to have the card system, but is not hardcore at all, so don't be afraid of this and go for it, it is worth it.

 

Crafting mechanics. Graveyard keeper. What better thing to pick than a Crafting game, this is not an action game that has some crafting mechanics here and there, this game is basically all crafting. Love it. It was on PSplus extra and it was removed this year, so I was already playing it when they announced this, so I did buy the game and the DLC, because I loved this game. Got a little tired of it at the end, but it was great. Turn out to be the most played game of the year in my annual rundown.

 

CULT FAVOURITE. Ghostwire Tokyo. I did a lot of "cult following" "hidden gems" "underrated games" this year, but this was my favourite, this game the moment that it was announce, people knew it was going to be a niche game, one of the reviews actually called it the Cult following game of the year, last year. I guess thanks to Microsoft having F* you money is the main reason why this game is getting a sequel, but also because this game has a big fanbase out there.

Platinum wise, I am going to be honest, I was kind of annoying, but still was a good game.

 

So there you go. On to the next year bingo.
