Abby_TheLastofUs
Cult of the Lamb will be delisted next year in response to Unity's new installation fee policy. Unless Unity completely walks backs their new policy or Massive Monster backs down (unlikely), the game will be delisted just before the policy goes into effect. There are physical copies but prices for those are probably going to go up once the game is delisted, so get it before January 1st if you're interested. Massive Monster have clarified that it was a joke. 😅 Edited September 14, 2023 by Abby_TheLastofUs

psycho_clank314
That title gave me a scare. I was thinking there was going to be a wave of indie devs pulling their games from the PS store to be unable to purchase.

The hatred of the new policy from indie developers is very real, It wouldn't surprise me at all if CotL got delisted, then the policy gets reversed and they got relisted again.

It's a threat written in a light way... more like a strike pre-warning? But of course it's not a 100% certain scenario - who knows what will happen to Unity and all those games at this point, specially because there's some retroactive points to consider and a LOT of backlash going on. It' a wait and see situation.

There probably will be if this policy goes into effect as it currently stands... ...though this reads to me as a public-facing first-shot in what will likely be a public-relations war of words in the lead up to the proposed implementation of the policy. I would assume they are hoping that many other indie devs of successful games will make similar announcements, leading to a groundswell against the policy from players. Popular Post SimmondsR
It's genuinely absurd. To retroactively charge developers too is greed to the highest degree. Granted they're obviously not hurting for money but Genshin Impact uses Unity too and it's estimated that they'll have to pay 2.8Million roughly. I dread to think how smaller companies feel, the Devs for: Among Us Cuphead Untitled Goose Game Subnautica Hollow Knight Outer Wilds Death's Door (which was free recently on PS+ and Unity haven't clarified I don't think, if free games count as a valid download) That's just to name a few. It's a move that hurts literally everyone. Smaller Indie devs and the regular consumer because it means anyone who does stick with Unity (for some reason) will likely up the prices of their games to make the difference. Man...this and PS raising PS+ for no reason at all. I hate to sound so old but I miss when gaming was supposed to something that was fun 🙃 Edited September 13, 2023 by SimmondsR

I would assume the only reason to include language referring to "installs" rather than simple "purchases" is specifically to cover things like PS+ and Gamepass. The fee is for the devs that have used Unity, not the customers. Hold off on your natural inclination to lick that boot till you at least read the article, because this means less games and less game support in the long run. There is no world where this actually works in your favor. Edited September 13, 2023 by Abby_TheLastofUs
