Popular Post FLaNJeY
#66 - Death Stranding: Director's Cut Rating: 7.5/10 Difficulty: 2/10 First Plat of the year, on which I've been incrementally working since January. And an interesting game to boot. If you were to tell me you despise it and its intentionally obtuse mechanics and controls, indulgent narrative, and celebrated tedium, I would understand wholeheartedly. But there's a real charm to all those elements, and I thoroughly enjoyed the meditative, iterative grind; completing orders and gradually expanding the network, until you've established an infrastructure that helps expedite the loop, for both yourself and other players. Interestingly though, I found the game most monotonous when exploiting the more advanced structures, which render most orders effortless. Not to say I did not enjoy it at any point; I wouldn't have put 170 hours into the game had I not. However, I infinitely preferred my first trip to new destinations, traversing the uncharted and unwieldy terrain, than my 20th trip, perfectly sheltered from the Timefall in my Lv 3 Long-Range Truck, speeding across a highway. It's not the repetition; that I had visited this destination so many times, but the ease and how mechanical the subsequent trips became, which rendered them so uninteresting. While developing conveniently placed structures along carefully planned routes was satisfying, actually using them to bypass broad swathes of terrain was not. Irrespective, even the 20th trip to a well-visited Prepper is just another opportunity to soak in this game's breathtaking visuals. The Decima engine is a real behemoth. Combat and stealth are elementary, superficial diversions, but do add some diversity to the gameplay loop, the extent of which is somewhat dependent on the degree to which you choose to engage with these systems. The narrative was novel, albeit not particularly impactful for me, and while I don't worship Kojima like most of his avid supporters, I respect and admire his unorthodox and refreshing style of storytelling. It's a divisive package, but I'm actually quite pleased by how much I enjoyed and remained engaged with this game.

Popular Post da-Noob123
Don't think I have posted here since the end of April, in that time I have earned several platinums. May Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault This and All 4 One are the worst 2 R&C games. I just need one more game (Deadlocked) to complete the series and it was the taste of these 2 games from my mouth and leave me on a high note with the series. Untitled Goose Game Fun little puzzle game, especially in couch coop. Time trials we pretty easy, I recommend it. Syphon Filter 3 By far the weakest entry in the original trilogy but it filled in some background for the first 2 games. Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror Probably the best handling SF game so far and a pretty decent story. Got one more SF game to do, Logan’s Shadow though I am still hoping we get The Omega Strain as a Classic. June Kena: Bridge of Spirits A truly beautiful game that was surprisingly difficult. Normal was challenging enough so I used the Master difficulty trick for the platinum. Might have been manageable if I could reliably parry but I suck with such things. Batman Arkham City Most proud of this one. I had written it off 2 years ago but after recently finishing Knight's 100% I decided to go back to City. Yes the campaigns are challenging but I really psyched myself out of doing them for no reason. Also, I completed all of the DLC so I have now 100% the trilogy.
Popular Post disaster500
#78 Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel - 3.39% Personal Diffculty - 4/10 Time Played - 52 hours Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is set between Borderlands 1 and 2, and tells the story of the events leading up to the beginning of Borderlands 2. You'll see how Jack became Handsome Jack (and an absolute psychopath), how he got an endless Hyperion robot army, and why he wants to find the Vault on the planet Pandora so badly, he'll destroy everyone in his way. In terms of gameplay and missions, the game is basically BL2 in space. Most of the game takes place on Elpis, Pandora's moon, and with that is typical space/sci-fi stuff. There's a lot of low gravity sections, there's a new type of gear called "Oz Kits" which is your oxygen supply, and there's many references and easter eggs about popular sci-fi media such as Star Wars. There's new laser weapons, and cryo weapons replace the slag weapons in BL2. The main elements of Borderlands are still there though, the combat/character progression and the humour. The Pre-Sequel isn't as funny as BL2, mainly because Jack in BL2 is one of the best villains in gaming history, whereas in TPS, he hasn't yet become the cocky, arrogant arsehole who taunts you throughout the entire game he's so well-known for. Instead, the main "bad guy" is Colonel Zarpedon, who's uninteresting. There's still plenty of funny parts though, mostly from the side missions, and some of the bandit leaders you come across, such as The Bosun and Deadlift. Combat and character progression is satisfying as ever, as you level up you'll slowly get more and more powerful guns, as well as piece together a build for the unique character you picked at the start, each with several unique skill trees. In the base game there's Athena "The Gladiator", Wilhelm "The Enforcer", Nisha "The Lawbringer" and Claptrap "The Mistake". I played as Wilhelm, with his 2 combat drones Saint and Wolf. The trophy list is quite grindy and there's a lot to it. The main timesink is getting a character to level 50, which basically requires 2 playthroughs (normal and True Vault Hunter Mode) with many side quests completed. Some other big ones are completing all side missions in a playthrough, and completing every single Badass Challenge to level 1 (although some only unlock when you have others at level 5, so at one point I spent a while grinding 750 point-blank shotgun kills). There's also 1 trophy related to each character's ability. Wilhelm, Nisha and Athena have easy ones, Claptrap's is awful. As the punching bag of the series who is generally incompetant and everything he does, Claptrap's skill is RNG. The game selects one of many abilities to use, and his trophy requires you to use 15 all of them. They have random effects, including turning into a pirate ship, spawning a disco ball that spams elemental effects, and a bomb that'll instantly kill you upon detonation unless you kill another enemy with it. Some of these are very rare though, including one that's both rare and mulitplayer exclusive. If you use it while a teammate is downed, there's a small chance your skill will instantly kill you, and revive your teammate at the same time. Overall, I spent about 90 minutes constantly using Claptrap's skill, hoping to pull the right ability. I must've got some of them 20 times before I ever got the Funzerker ability, the last thing I needed for the platinum. Overall, I recommend, although you should play BL2 first. Speaking of BL2, that'll probably be my next platinum. I played it in 2019 before I trophy hunted, but I did the main story and 90% of the side quests, so I've mostly got clean-up left for that. Popular Post Swotam
#208 - Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered (PS5) Be Greater 62% Common My second time getting Platinum in this game. I originally played the PS4 version to 100% and decided to pay $15 to get the PS5 remaster after reading several reviews about how much better it looked, etc. I have to admit that the PS5 version in Performance RT mode looked really good. Everything was nice and smooth, and the environments looked excellent and very natural. It's definitely the best way to experience the game. Seeing as how I wanted to actually play the game as opposed to simply importing my save and auto-popping everything, I replayed the story from scratch, obtaining those trophies naturally (along with several others), before importing my PS4 save to unlock the remaining trophies I didn't really feel like grinding out again. Say what you will about auto-popping, but there's definitely times when it can save you from having to spend hours doing things you don't really feel like doing. Love it, hate it, doesn't matter to me. An excellent game on PS5 just as it was on PS4. Insomniac managed to hit the target with this one and made a superhero game to be remembered. #209 - Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales (PS5) Be Yourself 48% Uncommon One cannot play Spider-Man twice without playing the Miles Morales spinoff as well. As with the original game this one looks and feels excellent on PS5. The Performance RT mode offers stellar visuals with excellent performance. Insomniac did a solid job of making this game familiar yet unique in its own way, with Miles being less polished in his web swinging while having his own unique abilities to play with. The story was short, solid and enjoyable, although I did find some of the encounters at the end of the game had an awful lot happening at once and it was occasionally annoying to get hit by some random enemy ability when you didn't even know they were around due to there just being too much going on to keep track of. Otherwise an extremely fun game to play with a straightforward Platinum that doesn't ask you to spend ridiculous hours doing cleanup activities that aren't enjoyable. Definitely looking forward to Spider-Man 2 later this year, and hoping that it will meet or exceed the already high bar set by Insomniac with their existing releases.
Popular Post StraightVege
Platinum Garden #340 At first glance, the appealing art design similarities in this novel take on side-scrolling puzzlers could almost convince you that it was developed by Night School (Oxenfree), but the total lack of dialogue or narration should quickly dispel that silly notion. Indeed, this bittersweet, nostalgic story about two separated childhood friends is told wordlessly, as you traverse eight abstract, rotational island dream worlds. Each is themed around the duo's fondest memories, and strewn with cherished items from their past halcyon days of hanging out together. Your objective in The Gardens Between is always the same: to carry an orb of light all the way to the shrine atop the level's peak, discerning how to overcome various obstacles along the way. Only Frendt, the tech-savvy boy, can interact with mechanisms and gadgets in the environment; meanwhile the girl, Arina, carries a lantern to catch those elusive light orbs, which she can then place on jumping boxes to send them flying elsewhere on the map. Occasionally, their paths will even diverge, requiring one to open the way for the other by some means. Walking right advances the passage of time forwards, while backtracking to the left reverses it, so based on how events around you transpire during the trek up the mountain, it's often necessary to move time back and forth quite a bit to make progress. For example, a giant saw blade stuck in a plank blocking your path can be removed by having the girl repeatedly pass over the handle to cut it. The stage complexity escalates at a perfect pace, with devious late-game puzzles likely needing much pondering to ascertain the solution, provided you're forgoing the use of walkthroughs, of course. Upon solving a world, you're rewarded with a touching memory scene of the good old days, when the close buddies spent hours playing video games, or gazing at the stars. Considering the extremely simple controls and mechanics (only the left stick and X button are utilized), it's amazing how much depth they achieved, creatively using elements in every manner possible to keep the gameplay fresh throughout. This is obviously a production where the team had a clear vision, and avoided extraneous fluff. Sometimes, it's better not to overcomplicate things. One minor, yet frequent issue, however, occurs when the camera swings around to view the opposite side of the island. The kids end up walking to the left, yet you still need to hold right on the analog to advance. This just feels awkward and counterintuitive, akin to using 3D controls in an old survival horror game built for tank movement. It also happens when climbing ladders, since you need to hold right to go up, and left to go down. Seems like they could've handled this more elegantly, but you do grow accustomed to it before long. As someone whose childhood "friends" often bullied him for being different, the emotional ending, while poignant, probably didn't gut punch me as strongly as intended. Nevertheless, it did cause me to reminisce about how effortless it was to make friends back then. I mean, you could literally run into some new kid in the neighborhood, and spontaneously begin playing hide-and-seek or something. Obviously not the case as an adult; profoundly sad how nothing good ever lasts. Certainly one of the most absorbing adventure-puzzle games I've played thus far, and absolutely worth trying if you enjoy wistful, clever brain-teasers of this sort. Doubly so if you can get it as a PS+ Extra "freebie" like I did. The Voxel Agents are a development studio to keep an eye on, for sure. And when you need me, we can go to places only we know. PerfectionistLeft no stone unturned during your time on Tacoma Station. #341 Players of Fullbright's Gone Home should settle comfortably into this similar first-person adventure game they released back in 2018. Although Tacoma may have a very different sci-fi setting, the overall experience feels rather familiar, exhibiting the same design ethos. You explore an abandoned space station in 2088 as Amy Ferrier, contracted by the Venturis hypercorporation to collect the recorded data of its evacuated crew members. Your secondary objective is to retrieve the vessel's Al caretaker, called ODIN, and return it along with the gathered information. Apparently, these massive companies basically own their employees in the future, meticulously tracking everything they do aboard the station, and they obviously don't want the truth about what happened there to leak. I always enjoy a good anti-capitalist narrative! To accomplish her mission, Amy uses a slick augmented reality system to follow holograms of the crew through their routines, listening to their conversations, reading their not-so-private correspondence, and piecing together the events which ultimately led to them fleeing the station. Gameplay-wise, you're essentially just strolling around clicking on points of interest, and solving some simple door code puzzles, but the detailed world is convincing, and snooping around these people's personal lives felt plain wrong. Although I admittedly rushed through this one using a guide, what I could glean of the story and themes was compelling indeed, so I'll definitely be watching a proper playthrough on YouTube, if I don't simply run through it again myself. Quite refreshing to see a game subvert the "evil Al run amok" trope, treating kind ODIN like a sentient being, worthy of basic rights. Possibly an issue humanity will someday need to grapple with. Another solid Extra pick-up, I'm pleased to say! Considering the alternative? I would say that I do.

Popular Post Phlegeth
#73 Master Thief Unlock all trophies for Sly Cooper's final outing. . . final? Really? This was okay. Some of the missions were more frustrating than fun. That one where you had to protect Murray while he drug the van was the worst. And then they brought it back for a challenge and he had half health. And that one challenge where you had to shoot down 12 specific planes was annoying. When you got to like two left the other planes would fly into you, doing damage or if they hit you in the front making you fail the challenge. I hated that plane. That mission on the final level where you had to destroy the shields of the other planes before you can damage them was the worst. Cause again they'd just fly into you. Thankfully that challenge was the boss and he was easy. And that first time challenge was very tight. It took me a few tries. But all the other time trails were very lenient. But enough complaining. I did like all the characters. Some of the gimmicks were annoying, but overall they were fun. Panda King and The Guru were fun. The RC car was fun too. Didn't like the helicopter claw thing though. Or Dimitri's swimming. Those controls were weird. And I don't like being underwater in general.

Popular Post AK-1138
Platinum #736: Difficulty: ?/10 (read on) Playtime: 4-5 hours too long Okay, okay, okay... I know what you're thinking... "But AK, you delightfully devilish and recondite raconteur (call me), I thought you--having well and truly achieved your leaderboard goals once and for all--made a solemn vow to never again descend into the foetid and festering pit of rabid titmice known as the Easy Platinum Trash scene! Like, what gives, dad?" I'll tell you what gives... and don't call me "dad!" That lingo hasn't been ginchy since the early '60, swagbrofamdawg! So, what fucking gives is that I'm still stuck with a manageable but no less... existent contingent of these aforementioned Peatrice Grabitude Crackles from my time lost in that stygian netherrealm of illusory achievement... a past that haunts me yet; despite my efforts to move onto more corporeal pastimes. So how better to sever that tie than to make a concerted effort to get them all sewn up and summarily relegated to the dustbin of history? I do abhor an investment without return... now, I realize I am somewhat less than likely to be headed towards a bountiful Pyrate's horizon laden with treasure, good times, and free grog here... but Absolution has a value beyond silver and gold and, ahem, West Indian casabas, no? Well, anyhoo, as a bit of a mission statement, the first step of my fool's endeavour ended up being based around a game of which I can recall having heard an untoward word or two. Oh well, challenge accepted, right? Growing back dem dere calluses--be they physical or otherwise--can only help, surely. Oh, the folly of Man may well be the only boundless thing in this world... to say I started off on the wrong foot would be nothing short of understatement. No, 'twas indeed nothing so shapely as the feet of an Andie MacDowell or Shelley Winters... or indeed the more, ah, idiosyncratic tootsies of a Freya Crescent or Magica de Spell... no, these are nothing less than the scaly, callused, baby spew-green Hellpaws of an Erathian River Troll, exuding as they do enough bromhidroidal stench to kill a baby Jagular on the spot, and cause permanent brain damage to the larger of the species. I mean, uhh, we all hate Jagulars and all that, but my point stands. ...Ah, yes, points. I'm good at those... and even better at getting to them, as you can see! So my point is, if I am to indulge in a rare bit of laconicism... Crash Dummy is a near-useless piece of shit. About as janky and carelessly wrought a platformer as I have ever seen on an ostensibly official digital storefront. It starts off with a barely discernible awkwardly animated intro (out of sync, I might add) revealing the villain of this bland ol' yarn of objectively defensibly skippable nothingness to be what I can only describe as EVIL CYBORG AURON (dun dun dunnnnnnn!), and that about sets the tone just so, as well as establishing the very zenith of competency on offer. The ensuing game, such as it is, is a floaty and creaky mess with unreliable and clunky controls engendering distrust and antipathy at a blinding speed of 88 and a half Bubsys a minute. You'll be lucky to experience even four unbroken seconds of consecutive fun or satisfaction. At least the Sonic games are able to consistently achieve six or seven... Amateurishly incorporating only the least exciting aspects of a Castletroid into a seemingly endless loop of abject dullardry, the puzzles are either unintuitively obtuse or insultingly simple... when they aren't combining strict time limits with reliably unreliable mechanics, and hitboxes clearly coded on a tattered and worn Home Farm Twins trapper keeper by a somnambulist pine weasel. The developers did see fit to bless the player with infinite lives and a very accommodating continue system... which is, of course, about as useful as a picture of oxygen to a drowning man whenever the game decides it's time for you to randomly fall through the floor, glitch past the "goal" area of a given screen, or for a door not to unlock, as you'll have to play an area from the start should any of these situations occur... and they will, friend... they will. The whole system feels like a retroactive choice borne of a fist as hammy as a Miss Piggy karate chop, clearly evidenced by the vestigial 1-ups, the collection of which is rendered wholly redundant. And of course, usually those are placed in areas that will cost you at least one life in the process. Oh boy, one would have liked to see what this game's completion rate would have been like without this oddly condescending olive branch of magnanimy... not least because this inameliorable chiffchaff shitshow would have never even been a blip on my radar had it been thus! The scarcity of good points hardly even merit consideration, as they chiefly revolve around derivative gameplay elements that said points of derivation executed better... and even those only heighten the shituity of it all as they mock you with the faintest little glimmers of potential, wasted like your Uncle Biltmore on St. Swithens Day. All this is not to say that the experience is not ultimately doable, as proven by this post having been made... but like the "doage" of a vagina dentata, it is ultimately far flung from the domains of pleasure. Oh, and, hehe... you want to witness something strange and mystical? You should definitely press the Options button when you're really far into a level... now, I won't spoil the surprise, but all I can say is before you do, please make sure that you possess no knowledge of the domiciles of the developers in question, and have no sharp implements close at hand. I shall say no more. In closing, I would like to recommend this crime against humanity to precisely nobody. I bid you a fond adieu as I *deeeeeeeeeeep sigh* make ready to contend with the North American stack because much like a protagonist of Kafkaesque extraction, my life is an endless cosmic joke. It is I who am the Crash Dummy of whatever inscrutable metaphysical forces govern this forsaken plane of meaningless existence... THE TORTURE. NEVER. STOOOOOOOOPPPPSSSSSS!!!Final Rating:
