I'm with Psychic here.  Seattle has been the poster-child of slow starts, and that's both for the season and in games.  Look at last year, they started 0-2,including a week 1 loss against the Broncos, it was over in everyone's eyes for them, 7-9 at best.  Fast forward to week 15 and they beat KC in KC to lock in their playoff spot.  Initially I predicted the Vikings to win the north but after 2 weeks, overreaction Monday tells me I was wrong and Cousins's is a middle of the road guy.  Once Seattle gets in their groove they might actually be a team to fear.

Could be but I also remember Dallas dispatching that "in a groove" Seahawks team Wild Card weekend without too much difficulty.  But Russell Wilson is a gamer and will pull out some wins.

 

Cousins is definitely no better middle of the road but the way the Vikings beat Atlanta and outplayed Green Bay at Green Bay after a bad start, I am thinking they will be in the mix.

 

Should be fun...

I'm a Niner fan who has been in fear of Seattle for a long time. I thought they might suffer when the legion of boom got broken up, but they didn't rebuild that defense....they simply reloaded.

 

Cousins is an absolute coach-killer. The complete opposite of Brady and Manning.....Cousins will play well enough against bad teams and even well enough through stretches against good teams, but he'll find a way to lose when the lights are bright or the end of the game is near. Like yesterday against Green Bay. He brings Minnesota back from 21 points down, to one score down, 1st and goal late in the game, and then throws a prayer into double coverage for the game ending interception. Dude! Just throw the damn ball away!

 

I'd take a Trent Dilfer type QB over Cousins anytime.

Dallas was also gifted that game at home even though Seattle had the head-to-head tie breaker.  10-6 was good enough to win the East so Dallas gets the advantage, which is a setup I've always hated, an automatic playoff spot should be reward enough for winning a division, seeding should be record based... anyways, I digress, I would love to have seen how that game would have played out in Seattle like it should (IMO) have because I honestly believe home vs away is worth 2 points.

 

Anyways, like you said, the NFC is gonna be fun to watch.

Not in San Francisco.........I don't think the chemistry would work between him and Richard Sherman.

 

If I'm Tom Coughlin/Jacksonville, I would trade him..........to a team like Detroit, or better yet, Washington. And I'd do it for even a second round pick.

They were also talking about setting a precedent which is something to think about.  Act like an asshole, request a trade/release and get what you want, first it was AB, then Ramsey, now players see that's all it takes and the snowball starts rolling.

As a Jets fan, it depends on the asking price.  Because the Jets need a quality Cornerback badly.

 

Then again, the Jets need a lot of things pretty badly.  Some health might be nice -- the replays of the Trevor Siemian injury make me think that Luke Falk is going to be starting in Foxboro next week and perhaps longer than that.

The NFC should be a blast. Looks like 10 teams vying for six spots. They are all good, and they all have deficiencies. I need to see SF beat a quality team to chalk them up as a contender. I still don't have an idea how DET beat SD, after the 4th quarter meltdown in AZ. I'm not ready to give up hope on Cousins quite yet. There's a mystique with Lambeau and I have seen much better QBs than Kirk get rattled in GB. But he can't have another subpar performance at home vs. a lethargic Raider squad.

Don't go running out to Vegas or your local sportsbook to place wagers on that.  The seemingly obvious almost never happens, even in the NFL.  Yes, the Chiefs and the Patriots look to be the two best teams in the AFC -- by far -- but there's a huge amount of road between now and the AFC Championship Game.  And a ton of things that can happen to disrupt that.  I remember everybody saying two or three years ago how it was going to be Pittsburgh and New England guaranteed and the Steelers defense got run over on their home field in their playoff opener.

If I had to guess, they'll sign somebody as a temporary stopgap to backup Luke Falk for Sunday's massacre in Foxboro.  And then they'll re-evaluate after that because Week 4 is their bye and Sam Darnold would like to be ready for Week 5 in Philadelphia.  (He probably won't:  Week 6 against Dallas or the Week 7 re-match against the Patriots is more likely)  It won't be a big name, and it absolutely won't be Colin Kaepernick:  while the idiot, interim owner would probably be on board with that idea, the real owner currently working out of the Ambassador's Residence in London would veto it in two-tenths of a second (if not faster).

 

They're staring down the barrel of 0-6 any way you slice it, simply a result of the schedule being what it is.

 

As for New Jersey having at least one competitive football team?  If the Jets have to be terrible, the Giants need to be terrible as well just to balance things out.  Jets fans and Giants fans don't really get along all that well, even if it's not anything resembling a rivalry.

Vegas odds has New England as a 23 point favorite over the New York Jets. Mon Dieu! Dallas is a 21 point favorite over Miami. These two games are among the top 10 biggest spreads in modern NFL history.

 

Biggest point spread for a New England home game was Philly at New England 24 points. Final New England barely won, 31-28.

 

In fact, of the top ten largest spreads, the underdog was 7-3 against the spread. I don't like the underdog in either game this week.

The veteran who probably makes sense is Brock Osweiler, because Osweiler knows Adam Gase's system.  Whatever that system is supposed to be, anyhow.

 

If you're the Jets, you aren't looking for a would-be starter from the market.  You want just somebody to understudy Luke Falk for the next few weeks and it helps if that guy doesn't have to learn a new system from scratch.  Somebody who is used to being a backup and who would be happy enough collecting a paycheck for a month without any expectations beyond that.

 

Sam Bradford doesn't really seem like that kind of guy to me.

Cam Newton is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Arizona. Re-injured foot sprain. He has not taken a snap in practice since that game.

 

Ron Rivera seems to be resigned to having to start Kyle Allen in his place for at least the next couple of games. Carolina was a 3 point favorite but is now off of many of the Vegas boards.

 

This makes seven teams who will be starting a quarterback in week 3 that was listed as a backup at the start of the 2019-2020 campaign.

Siemian is out for the year. Darnold has said he hopes to be back after the bye (week 5). I imagine they'll be trading for another QB since they don't have another one at the moment.

If I were the owners I would want a change in the collective bargaining contract. If you are an asshole, or demand to be traded, you earn the league minimum for the next 3 years. It pisses me off that the college kids (especially their agents), and someone like Bell or Brown, (among others) threaten the play and contract. Once their name is on that contract, that's it, you are obligated to it. Just because someone got hurt, and you become a starter does not mean your ass can holdout and renege on the contract that YOU signed. If you don't like the direction of the team or city you play in, fine sit out. League minimum and no bonuses. There is always the the XFL, CFL, coaching, I know the owners are billionaires, the players millionaires and who pays it? Everyone, taxpayers and fans. Try taking a family of 4 to a game for less then $250. Tickets, parking, $15 craft beers, $8 pop and $5 soft pretzels. pisses me off that the Patriots give Brown 9 million for being an asshole. Rant the fuck over

There's no reason for them to deal a draft pick for a guy they don't plan on keeping around for very long.  The plan is almost certainly to let Luke Falk play and evaluate him over the next few weeks, whether or not Sam Darnold races to get back early and the medical staff clears him.  So that they can figure out if Falk can be the backup for "down the road" or if they're going to need a different developmental guy who they hope can be the #2.  And because the schedule is brutal and the Jets weren't expecting to win any of the next four games even if Sam Darnold was the starter.

 

They'll grab a guy off the street to have an extra body.  I've suggested above that Brock Osweiler probably makes the most sense.  But the guys available via trade aren't going to be so much better than what they have now or make enough of a difference to be worth the draft pick compensation.

I'm pinning a ton of hope on Falk, Minshew and Murray this year.  If the Cards' air-raid offense can be successful while Minshew and Falk simultaneously turn heads then we'd hopefully be one step closer to having Mike Leach coaching in the NFL.  Seeing the human filibuster at an NFL podium... pure gold.

Jacksonville says they are starting Jalen Ramsey for their Thursday night game against Tennessee.

 

Does he even want to start? Will he be making a "business decision" and make no attempt at tackling?

 

I don't think much of Marcus Mariotta, but I don't think I can bet on Jacksonville on this one.
