NMErickson
Not a surprising announcement but the thing that bothers me is it might prove we won’t get a Morrowind 20th anniversary remaster or an Oblivion remaster for a PlayStation console. Was hoping to see shiny new versions of those ala Skyrim. Will wait and see if there’s a timed exclusivity deal for 6 and if not just get it on PC like all the other TES games. Popular Post Dauersack
Aside from exclusives not meaning what they used to, it is really hard for me not to shit on people who expect the next Elder Scrolls to be anything but a disappointing atrocity. Guys, Skyrim released 10 years ago and it was already a horrendous release back then, Bethesdas brain has been rotting in the sun ever since, you are far, FAR more likely to get a Fallout76 caliber experience than a Skyrim experience, and let's be honest here for a second, Skyrim basegame was not excactly a masterpiece either without mods. People expecting this next Elder Scrolls to be anything other than a disaster are most likely in for yet another rude awakening because they never learn. This right here has shitted on Sony a lot and I'm glad to see it after all of their arrogance and the toxicity of PlayStation fanboys about being on the "superior platform". Bit of a difference between building your own studios/exclusive IPs vs buying out the parent company of a long time multi-platform publisher/developer. This doesn't really change Sony's line of exclusives that were home grown, and I dont think a whole mass of people are going to suddenly buy an xbox just for Bethesda

Of course it was. Easy money wins every time. Screw the challenging route. ‘Twas a pipe dream to begin with. Skyrim anniversary gave a glimmer of hope, then this announcement pretty much kills that idea off. The big man Phil Spencer must be rubbing his hands together right now envisioning all the people talking about buying a new Xbox console now. “Our investment’s gonna pay off soon, guys”. It’ll be interesting to see the numbers down the line.
BrandedBerserk
Sucks a bit but It's to be expected. I ain't gonna lose any sleep over it though as Bethesda ain't at the top of their game like they use to be and there will always be more great rpgs to play. Neef-GT5
Quite predictable since the Microsoft acquisition of Zenimax. This is just good business, no reason to moan about it… That being said, I wouldn’t trade God of War Ragnarok nor Horizon Forbidden West for all the elder scrolls in the world. So no harm done ?
Kishnabe
Cries in Persona 5 Royal (Rumored to come to Xbox and Switch). Sony will have plenty of exclusives Xbox finally has something outside of Gamepass. As long Elders Scrolls 6 is on Steam, all good. Popular Post Zephrese
And we're surprised about this being the case... why? lol 4 hours ago, DiegoDolmetscher said: The same goes for Sony: it acquired Insomniac Games (taking away from the XBOX ecosystem the IP of "Sunset Overdrive") and Bluepoint Games... consequently meaning that Nintendo and XBOX users will get no exclusive game developed by them. Hence? This is the industry, guys, in the good and in the bad. We don't have to choose a side, we only have to love our hobby... that is, GAMING. This is such a strawman argument, and it's annoying to see people still peddling this around as if this can be made as a direct comparison to Microsoft acquiring Bethesda. Sunset Overdrive has a singular game compared to the several that most existing Bethesda IPs have now, many of which have existed for decades. The two are completely different levels of severity, and not really comparable beyond a surface level as a result. :/ Combine that with the fact that most of Insomniac's games and IPs are exclusive to PlayStation platforms anyways, and the comparison makes even less sense. Plus, it's not like Microsoft was going to make another Sunset Overdrive anyways. lmao (That said, I honestly don't expect Sony to make another one either in all fairness) 3 hours ago, The Alchemist said: Ironic, considering that MS purchasing Zenimax is one of the biggest anti-consumer moves to ever happen in the games industry. Instead of investing in their own studios, growing them from the ground up and expanding on their stable of exclusive games and IP like Sony have done over the past decade, MS did the most MS thing ever... they just bought third-party IP and turned them exclusive. They also kicked off the mass consolidation efforts we're now seeing in the games industry, so expect to see even more things like this happening in the future. Because it's always a good thing for 1 company to own everything... But they "got the edge", so way to go Microsoft ? Thank God at least one person has some common sense about this whole situation. lol I'm all for more competition, but this move by Microsoft was too extreme in my eyes. (Pretty much as equally disagreeable as Disney acquiring Fox a few years ago) It'd obviously be no better if Sony bought Bethesda instead of Microsoft either, but they didn't... so... SpaceIsDandy
The game isnt coming to the console I want so its anti consumer :c I must have missed the part where Bethesda (and Microsoft/Sony) stopped being business and started being focused only what ALL gamers want. Quixotesque
Honestly, I think this is great news for everyone. TES VI being exclusive will make it take full advantage of the capabilities of its platform, without the need to optimize for all of them. Also, it's a great attraction for Xbox to grow and evidently they're not going to want to let that candy slip away. At the same time, this is good news for PS users. The evident lack of western RPGs (without Obsidian, Bethesda or inXile) has generated a market gap in the biggest console park, something that I imagine that more than one company will try to take advantage of, who knows if we will even see a Sony first party making a game of this style. That said, this news is expected and at the same time good for everyone.
DrBloodmoney
Even if it never comes to Playstation - I’m looking on the bright side - it frees up time for other stuff! An Elder Scrolls game takes upwards of 80 hours. Realistically, that 80-odd hours of gaming could be like 4 or 5 indie games - the kind of stuff that can fall through the cracks when a bunch of big games are eating up all the gaming time… …so maybe it’s a blessing in disguise ??
Cassylvania
Given the mod community support for these games, it's probably best played on PC anyway. Personally, I don't care much. I spent enough time playing Skyrim that it was worth buying twice, but open world RPGs are quickly becoming one of my least favorite genres in terms of trophy hunting. One less game to play on PS isn't going to hurt me.
Guest
Exclusivity and "intellectual property" are pretty shitty concepts, but most people aren't ready to have this conversation.
AJ_Radio
Another thread ruined by two sides constantly bitching at each other over a fucking game made by a company that many people already moved on from. Datboy1991
Well before we get to ES6 we need to milk Skyrim for another 10 or so years.
You
The Elder Scrolls online has something crazy like 32 separate DLC with trophies in. Surely by the time anyone gets 100% on the the game after several years, the exclusivity deals will have ended.
Sn1per666999
I'll be saddened by this news only if the game releases and it's great. I don't trust Bethesda to make a great game again.
jpwbjpwb
I'd rather wait and see if they game is good before getting it anyway. If it is something amazing then I will play it on pc even if I generally prefer my playstation.
