Gooboid
Nascar Heat 5 My first foray into Nascar games since the PS2-era. Thankfully, I didn't encounter many of the bugs others have mentioned here. I'd be interested in playing a Nascar game in the future, as long as it has a little more love from the devs. I wouldn't recommend to others as the physics/graphics/gameplay are nothing to write home about.

Popular Post voodoo_eyes
#650 - Vampyr Quite enjoyed this one. The combat took a little bit to get used to as initially, it just felt clunky. After a while it felt fine though. The side stories were pretty good, was the information you got from unlocking the hints of the various characters. There being no fast travel was mildly annoying, but once you unlock the various shortcuts between regions, the whole running from a to b becomes less tedious. One of the complaints I have with this game, is that the first few hours have a somewhat poor pacing and that crafting materials are not enough to craft anything really My biggest issue with the game ended up being the various crashes during the last third of the game. Like many of you (especially the Ratalaika / Jumping Quesadilla with Extra Cheese crowd), I've been there. Oddworld; Stranger's Wrath, Hitman 3, Madden 21, Playstation All-Stars, etc. Heck, of the past five unique titles I've played, I double-stacked three of them (including two insane concurrent playthroughs of Vice City). And now, with Battlefield 2042, I've got my very first triple-stack. Damn. If you've been keeping up with PS Plus Essential, you'll know this was the headlining monthly game for the month of March. A bog-standard military shooter, released only as recently as the tail-end of 2021. PS Plus Essential is where failed online/live-service games go to get their last rites before burial, so to see the latest installment of what was once perhaps considered to be the second-most popular military FPS (behind Call of Duty) debut as a monthly game this early into its lifespan ought to be rather humiliating for publisher EA and development studio DICE. Mind, this game was sold as a full price AAA title upon release (and still commands a hefty pricetag even today). Yet booting the game up nowadays sees the player being greeted with a slew of mechanics you'd expect in a free-to-play title, right down to the pointless paid cosmetics, convoluted in-game currencies for unlocks, and the obligatory seasonal battle pass. Great. I'm going to try and leave it at that, instead of labouring the point of how terribly this game's development and release were handled by DICE and EA, as there are other sources that have put pen to paper on the subject far more eloquently than I can. All you need to know is; online-only multiplayer FPS with no singleplayer mode to speak of (although you can play with bots on online servers, where XP gain is severely hampered), and what little there is in terms of story is told through a few repeated snippets of dialogue at the start of most matches, plus some very poorly conceived and written lore hidden behind unlockable badges. Indeed, if you want the full picture, you need to unlock pretty much every little thing in the game, which comes down to a ridiculous grind. I doubt most players care enough to read it in its current state when freely available, let alone go out of their way when they have to unlock a few sentences providing background to the conflicts portrayed in the game. The gist of it is this; it's 2042, climate change has introduced a few gimmicks to standard FPS matches (hurricanes and sandstorms that kind of hinder you while playing but not enough to be truly game-changing), most nation states have failed, and you play as a bunch of totally-not-heroes-in-a-hero-shooter contracted by either the US or Russia. Now go into a large map and do shooties at one another. Battlefield has always been known for really vast play spaces and vehicular combat - as opposed to the more claustrophobic nature of Call of Duty - and the maps in 2042 sure are big with a bunch of vehicles. Not that this makes things really interesting, mind. My previous experience with the series is limited to Battlefield V, which was also given away with PS Plus albeit in less embarrassing fashion than 2042. This latest game works just fine and ticks all the boxes a modern online shooter should tick, but doesn't have enough to elevate it past the competition, or even put it on par with a nearly antiquated yet much more memorable FPS title like Killzone 2 back on the PS3. 2042 was actually a really hot mess upon release with vastly overpowered weapons and vehicles (including hovercraft that could scale buildings) running rampant amidst countless glitches, but I found few of those issues remained in its present build - although I do feel like some maps in the enjoyable Breakthrough mode seemed to really favour one side over the other (Queen Maud Land being the most noteworthy example to me, where the attacking side would win nine out of every ten matches). Trophy-wise, these lists cross-pop somewhat generously. Most Trophies based on stat-tracking unlocks automatically (levels, weapon mastery) while a fair few others require a single repeat of an action to pop (e.g. if you unlocked Doze This by killing seven enemies with the shield in one life on version X, you only need a single shield kill on version Y to have it pop there). A small handful, however, need to be re-done in full on each version, including Battlefield 2042's most difficult Trophy; Clean Exit, for which I've written an in-depth post in the Latest Trophy thread. Clean Exit is achieved in a nearly-dead/deserted mode called Hazard Zone that has a higher minimum playercount required on PS5 compared to PS4, which makes quite a difference for its difficulty and hence why I've rated the current gen version as a 5/10 and the last gen stacks as 4/10. If it wasn't for the three Trophies associated with that mode, I think Battlefield 2042 could easily be considered a 2/10 in difficulty. This is because the Portal mode lets you create your own custom matches with self-made rulesets and gameplay modifiers, which can then be loaded up with bots. While these matches don't do much in the way of Experience gain (for which there are other exploits), they do let you unlock all hero-specific Trophies rather quickly and effortlessly. In fact, if you got all the grindy Trophies (which can also be cheesed relatively quickly via Portal) and Hazard Zone out of the way, you could conceivably clean up the rest of the list - accounting for the majority of the Trophies - in about an hour if not less. Because of this, triple-stacking Battlefield 2042 really wasn't that difficult or frustrating - you just had to go through everything in full once, so as to facilitate cross-popping on the other versions. It was really just Hazard mode that proved to be massively annoying due to Clean Exit, but through having to form squads with other Trophy hunters and having to fight off other squads for the same goal, some of 2042's most memorable moments for me actually were created in that mode. With the game now having been rotated out of the Essential line-up again and most Plus players having moved on, I think the window of opportunity to get these Plats done as easily and quickly as possible is likely over. Hazard Zone will return to its zombified state of not being able to fill lobbies to the point of reaching the minimum playercount, and the average skill level of players that do populate servers will go up as they'll mostly be 'regulars' rather than Plus newbs. Nonetheless, I reckon it'll still very much be doable, so if you fancy a Battlefield 2042 or three of your own, don't be afraid to hop on and give it a try. You may need to import a PS4 copy to do so, however - I only got to play the NA stack because I bought a one-month subscription to Plus on my American alt account.

Popular Post Larzz
Platinum #219 Tails of Iron Lovely little palet cleanser to play in between the bigger, grindy games I’m working on. Popular Post HansPatat050
#86 The Order: 1886 Enjoyment: 7/10 Fun quick shooter, the graphics are great and the mix between old and a little sci-fi is interesting. The story is nice and the cinematics make up for the lack of a 'skip' button. I'm still not convinced that collectibles add any value to a shooter but it wasn't too bad. Difficulty: 3/10 few challenging shootouts but not too difficult. When I finished the game I only had 1 trophy left, so quite straightforward list as well. Time: 7 hours #87 Slipstream Enjoyment: 6/10 Nice indie classic racer. Don't expect anything fancy, it has PS2 graphics and it's linear racing. The neon style is nice and it really feels like an old game. It's a game to sit back and relax and drive through classic neon style environments. I would recommend to pick it up when it's on sale. Difficulty: 2/10 Played it on medium difficulty Time: 7 hours #88 Steep Enjoyment: 9/10 I I picked it up for free on PS+ in January 2018. This was my first year I went skiing so I went all-in on this game, together with a few friends. I didn't care about trophies back then so it was winking at me on my backlog since then. Now it was time to finish it. The game is absolutely great. The open world feels huge and you can go anywhere, you can easily go 10-15 minutes down a mountain with ski's/snowboard/sled/wingsuit/paraglide without reaching the base. You can go super fast or relax, make easy turns and enjoy the environment or go rogue with a wingsuit flying inches over the slopes. I has the Ubisoft assasins creed feel to it. All types of sports feel and behave differently. You're in an open world with other online players (yes, online only game) and there are always a few around, which amazed me considering how big the map is. Shout out to the guy with level 417, that's some serious boarding time (when I platted I was level 32). If anyone is looking for a snowsports game then this is it. However, Difficulty: 7.5/10 the game is hard, especially the platinum. The controls are straightforward but it has a learning curve to get a grip on the snow, how to make good and useful turns, how to do effective jumps, tricks and what to do if you're going 100 kph down a hill and need a turn left and right while avoiding trees which will knock you down instantly. The most difficult part are the 115 gold medals. When I went back to the game I was pleasantly suprised that my non-trophy hunting 2018-self already got 40 gold medals. Some challenges are 10/10 in difficulty, close to impossible and have only 1 perfect line you'll have to master to get a gold medal. Don't let this hold you back, it's worth it and with more than 2% plat achievers it's doable. Trial and error. There are 118 challenges, 115 require a gold medal.
