Popular Post Parker
#25 Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Be Yourself - Collect all Trophies Another fantastic game. I think the first Spider-Man is a better game and a more enjoyable experience overall, but this game is still absolutely worth playing. I'm really looking forward to Spider-Man 2 as well as Insomniac's take on Wolverine. Parker
Popular Post Exovector
#65: Middle-Earth: Shadow of War These games probably weren't quite what John Ronald Reuel Tolkien had in mind when he started plotting out his magnum opus, but I'll be damned if I don't unashamedly love this ridiculous fanfic. Satisfying combat, laugh out loud levels of unscripted chaos, and a fun-but-fair Platinum.

Popular Post mr_enigma26
Dead Space Never played the original back on the PS3 so this was a great opportunity to experience this game. Loved the combat, atmosphere and the attention to detail. Flesh gets blown off before the limbs, the setting is nerve racking, and the sound design puts you on edge. Definitely a Must Play for 2023.

Popular Post Darghel
#180: Survival Master (Digimon Survive) Difficulty: fairly easy but grindy Time to Complete: Around 55 hours split in 4 FULL playthroughs Recommended: On discount Total score: 6.5/10 Disclaimer: I'm a HUGE Digimon fan, I loved the original series back then and while most of Digimon games are really big misses (never understood how Digimon World worked back in the day...), they do have a fantastic couple of jrpgs (Cybersleuth) and...well...okay I guess Digimon Survive is fine too, even though not as great. I won't go into deep details for story reasons, but Digimon Survive is NOT a survival game (Thankfully!) but a Visual novel with bits of tactical jrpg sessions, and your job is to get through 12-13 parts of story while choosing a path. And also capture recruit as many Digimon as you can. Fairly simple stuff! The story itself is overall "alright", the 4 paths are somewhat interesting to go through and some twists are legitimately interesting and some of them even shocking - I particularly enjoyed Harmony's path a lot more than I thought. And while simplistic the combat is good enough to keep it fast and steady, with several options of speed and even removal of animation during combat. There's a good amount of QoL stuff so there's not much else to say other than "it's good" Now, my biggest issue right off the bat is the presentation: it starts great, and there's a pretty interesting sense of dread and the game also shows that your choices do matter - you can fight the first boss alone if you make the wrong choices and you can use an item to make the fight easier. It does look pretty interesting and keeps you engaged...until you realize that "that's it", there's nothing else in it as later chapters are fairly linear and simple. Yes, you can unlock some items and additional dialogue but that's it. That's very disappointing. Secondly, in parts 3 and 5, something will happen ALL THE TIME without any way to change the path - and if you do that means you're going for the true ending path. And later on, from part 9 and onward, the story does change depending on your path (Moral, Wrath, Harmony) but they all feel the same-ish: it's just the character that changes but overall it's the same, which is kind of weird. What I'm trying to say is, your choices don't matter until way later and, since there's a trophy for each path, that means you'll have to end this game 4 times in total! Yes, you can skip already-written dialogue but darn it still takes at least 4 hours to get through! I'm not new to restarting games from scratch multiple times but this game was overstaying its welcome after the 2nd playthrough! Especially if you consider the fact that you also have some mandatory battles to do! Ah yes, the battle in this game is...passable but really below average, mainly due to how the Digimon work: they only have one skill (their signature skill) and nothing else - besides a regular attack. The only way to learn more is to use skill crystals which give them the ability to equip one extra skill and that's a random drop too. So annoying! Another issue is how strong some enemies can get despite the level disparity: I was about level 30 with some champion/Ultimate Digimon and yet some Rookie Digimon HALF my level could withstand my damage...what?! I should be able to wipe out any Rookie with my Ultimate Digimon and yet they can survive several hits?! Their stats are also insane and there's a weird difficulty spike around part 7-8, where you get to fight against Mega level digimon while you're still using Ultimate levels! Despite I was well geared and equipped the boss literally 1 shotted me! Sheesh, good thing difficulty sliders exist in this game or else I'd be stuck! And lastly, one final nitpick, the levelling is very annoying: you can only bring few digimons in battle with you and only those will get the experience, which means that if you need to grind some levels you'll have to carry them with you. At the very least the experience is rewarded to everyone without splits, even dead ones will get theirs, but I wished I could get experience on ALL my digimon in my roster...my 3 level 10 Gomamons are dying from lack of exp! But overall, the game is 100% fine, it's not perfect and I can see it had issues with development, mainly because the quality is very inconsistent. It's hard to explain but that's the best word to explain this game and the more you play it the more you can see, like how certain character's traumas or backgrounds aren't mentioned or even taken into consideration until later, or how some characters near the end didn't feel in character. Again, very hard to explain but it feels inconsident! Trophy wise is also fairly easy, with only really one trophy being difficult which is collecting all Digimon: they're only 113 but because the recruitment session is a total pain in the butt it might take a while. The rest is story related so you'll have a lot of playthroughs to go through! Do I recommend it then? Hmmmm...as a visual novel it's "fine", as a tactical jrpg it's "okay", and as a digimon game is "good", so take this with the pliers: if you're looking for good digimon game then this won't disappoint you too much - heck I loved getting my favorite digimons during my playthrough! However, if you're looking for a VN game or even a tactical jrpg then you'll be somewhat disappointed and you might want to look elsewhere. As a fan of Digimon this game was enjoyable but if you're not a fan then you're not getting a lot out of it - except an overall easy plat. Now if you excuse me, I have an appointment with a certain alchemist with severely tiny shorts to meet with! Elvick_
Platinum #276 Shiro Twin Sisters Get all other trophies Short, but I think I paid less than $1 for it so not bad. It was alright. But some areas were just annoying because the wall jump doesn’t register right away from the little boost things (like barrels in DKC that shoot you in a certain direction). And those things disappear for no reason and when you die they don’t instantly return so lots of waiting for that. underwhelming last level, not even a proper final battle it just ends. And I wish the attack was better used for the platforming to extend jumps but it basically kills your momentum instead. Combat is the worst part, easier to just roll through most enemies. For the price though it was fine. Took a bit of effort here or there. Glad it’s over.

Popular Post Moridin83
#263 Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star I don't have much good to say about this game. If you're a big fan of the Fate universe, that may be a major positive, but as a musou, this game is bottom 3 all time for me, and that's accounting for recency bias, otherwise I'd probably say it's my least favorite. The biggest sin the game commits is how frequently it pulls you out of the actual gameplay. Enemy servant appears? Cutscene! You do a special attack (of any flavor)? Cutscene! They aren't long cutscenes, they barely deserve the name as they're all rendered in engine, but it doesn't matter, since it still interrupts the game flow and means you never get more than 30s to 1 min of uninterrupted play. Contrast that with most musous where you're pulled out of your hack and slashing once or twice a level tops, and its really disruptive. The enemy variety is abysmal. The menus are also more frustrating than necessary. You get booted back to the main menu, instead of character select if you try to change side stories. It would be a minor thing, but it adds time and frustration. You also need to go into either main or side story to make new code casts, you can't do it from free battle, where you'll be spending a significant amount of time. There aren't enough different maps, and many of the ones they have are frustratingly constructed, with poorly interconnected zones and the enemy able to attack zones much more quickly then you can get to and capture them. Honestly the only reason I finished this plat is stubbornness and the fact that it's an easy choice when I didn't want to need a trophy guide (mostly) or think hard about the gameplay. Only consider this if you're a huge Fate fan or have literally run through all the other musous available.
