Popular Post Slava
After Hours By far the wildest movie Scorsese had done by that point in his filmography. A man gets stuck in a real life nightmare, and we get to witness every weird detail of that night. I was put off by the unnatural sounding dialogue in the first 30 minutes or so. Every character would just randomly insert a fact from their life without any reason or say something random or unnecessary. However, as the story went on and got crazier, these exchanges started to feel so fitting that I was wondering if this weirdness was intented for the "normal" parts in the beginning as well. Anyway, enough about that. I like how After Hours looks. It is probably the most visually pleasing Scorsese movie at the time of release. I like the sped up moments with the taxi and the phone, I feel like they added a lot to the mood. I also think it's not a coincidence that all female characters we meet are blonde women who get progressively older. They were definitely doing something with this, I am fully convinced. Can't say it's my favourite Scorsese film. But it's interesting and unique for sure.

Same, can't believe I waited like 15 years to see it once again, but, my god, the movie is amazing. Might need to rewatch a lot of old Disney movies because of that lol.
Don_Chipotle
Silent Night (2023 film) - Wikipedia Amazing film, it has many John woo moments by being over the top, its interesting because it goes from low to high over the film, and its great how they explain and work with characters, a very simple film, but its nothing like john wick, this is a more "dirty and somewhat realistic" aproach to action films, and thats not a bad thing, Joel Kinnaman does a great job and the film goes really fast, and there are some great moments, and yes, it can be considered a xmas movie

wolvieware
Recently I’ve watched: Chicken Run - rewatched this in anticipation of the new sequel. This still stands up despite being a crazy 23 years old!! The Unlikely Pilgramige of Harold Fry - a bit of a depressing movie I thought. The novel is a lot better Tetris - unsure how accurate this movie is, but it was actually really interesting and there must be some historical accuracy in there.

Popular Post Redgrave
I was in the mood for something adventurous and I honestly forget if I actually watched these all the way through before. Whether or not I did before I definitely did now and I can say watching them now really makes me appreciate just how good they are. The action scenes are all so creative and intense, the humor is great, and the characters are all memorable and charismatic. I think for me the order of my favorites from least to best is Temple of Doom, Raiders, and Last Crusade. I don't dislike Temple of Doom but I think I just don't find the setting as interesting as the other two. I did find the interactions with Willie and Short Round really funny too especially when Short Round goes "You call him Dr. Jones, doll!" As for Raiders there's just a lot of it that's really captivating from start to finish, even the slow scenes. It really does feel like a grand adventure happening full of discovery and action that's really great to see. I also wish I could have seen the audiences reactions in the theater for the first time at the end when it suddenly turns into a horror show with Toht and the other antagonists screaming bloody murder and having their faces melted or heads exploding. Back when I first saw that scene I think I remember being disturbed by it but now I just find it kind of funny with how over the top it is. I think I like Last Crusade the most since I like the religious themes in it and the back and forth between Jones and his father were great. I really don't think anyone other than Sean Connery could have pulled it off as well. The ending sequence in the temple with all the puzzles were also great and creative. I especially liked the leap of faith one and the Holy Grail one at the end. The kid who played the younger Jones did a fantastic job getting the impressions down as well. Along with that I liked seeing Julian Glover (who I mostly know as General Veers in Empire Strikes Back) be the main antagonist since he plays that kind of character really well. Funny enough, Michael Sheard was also Hitler for his brief scene, so it was kind of like an Empire Strikes Back reunion. If only Walter could have given the order for "Target! Maximum firepower!" he would have beaten Jones. I figured if I was going to watch the other three I might as well see this one too. This would actually be my second time seeing it because the first time I watched it, I was home sick from school and I had hoped that because of being sick it affected me really enjoying it and remembering it well but unfortunately not much really changed. So yeah, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Dan Aykroyd's Crystal Skull Vodka is the weakest of the ones I have seen and it sucks because I actually feel like it had the foundation to be at least be good but once they get to South America I just feel like it starts freefalling to where it feels really boring. The beginning parts for the most part are fine like with the chase sequences and such, but after the halfway point I found it really hard to keep invested in it. I think Shia as Mutt was fine, and Cate Blanchett as a main antagonist was okay however I feel like she should have been accompanied by another antagonist since it felt like she was on her own and just couldn't really carry the antagonist role by herself. I think it would have been much better if she worked with or was married to the Soviet version of Indiana Jones as a kind of opposite version of Jones where he wants to find artifacts and stuff for the glory of it. On top of that he could have been like a ruthless KGB agent that say, shoots Mac several times in the face with a pistol so we don't have to deal with the bizarre back to back betrayals from Mac that the Jones from the previous movies would not have tolerated. Along with that, I think the Crystal Skull just didn't feel as impactful or interesting as the other artifacts. My understanding is the timeframe for the movie was supposed to be a homage to 1950's B-movies which explains the alien at the end and I kind of get it but at the same time it just didn't feel right. I think the crystal skull could have worked better if it was something else, like say a power source that the Soviets want to control and it can be something related to the arms race since they show that atomic bombs are a thing now. Then again a lot of things didn't feel right. I can accept that they used CG but it looked a bit too fake at times. In fact at the beginning when Spalko appears I couldn't help but think it looked like a cutscene in Command and Conquer. The action and violence also feels a bit toned down where a lot of deaths happen off-screen and nobody gets violently shot to death or have their face melted. The most that happens is one guy gets swarmed by a million ants and Spalko gets disintegrated by the alien beaming the Krabby Patty secret formula into her brain. I feel like if it happened in the originals, the one guy would have the ants come off him revealing a skeleton and Spalko would have been vaporized into a skeleton like how it looks when Jon Osterman gets vaporized in Watchmen. I also really don't think I need to mention the fridge scene, but I'll do it anyway. I get that Indiana Jones has a lot of over the top action and stunts no ordinary person would survive but you're not convincing me Jones, especially as an old man, is coming out unscathed being launched miles away in a refrigerator and slamming into the ground several times. Along with that the humor is hit or miss. Some of the jokes are okay but then some of them just either fell flat or made no sense. The worst one being where they are tied up in the truck and Mutt tosses Jones the knife to cut his ropes and there's this like splitting sound and Mutt goes "Oh shit" but then nothing comes of it. The way it comes off is it makes it seem like Jones split his pants but then they don't reveal that so I don't know what the intention of the whole thing was. I can only assume it was intended to be a different joke but they couldn't re-shoot the scene or something. But yeah, I've said enough. I don't think it's the worst thing ever but compared to the original three I can't even put it on the same level.
wolvieware
Watched Chicken Run 2 which was pretty good. I loved the mission impossible like first half, but the second half got a bit boring. Also watched Shazam 2 over the weekend. At first I didn’t think I’d enjoy it, the story set up and opening action scene was just so generic. But by the end it had actually turned into good fun with some surprising story beats and action. One of the better DC comics movies I think.
KnightsBattlecry
Saw Godzilla Minus One with my brother, his girlfriend, and a buddy of ours. My God the movie was amazing. The best looking Godzilla that Toho has made. CG wise anyways. Human characters were actually good, Godzilla's atomic breath was VERY powerful, and how the human characters deal with the big G was creative. Last I checked the movie is doing amazing and doing better than some movies here in the states. G fans will love it and people who haven't really watched any of the movies I think will enjoy it too. alexandra-jane09
You cannot beat a classic ghost story near Christmas time and no exception every year we watch the 1968 M.R James classic "Whistle and I'll Come to You" on Youtube. Starring the late scene stealing, Sir Michael Hordern as a Professor whom doesn't believe in ghosts or the supernatural and lives within his own existence and mumbles to himself and the play emphasises sounds for drama and suspense. He rambles on the Norfolk beaches in the early spring and whilst visiting a graveyard, finds an old flute and takes it, which sets off a chain of events that culminates in the Professor witnessing what he cannot comprehend and scares him as he sees what appears to be ghost or is it. We watched the 2010 version with the late John Hurt a couple of days before, but it is not patch on this one. Filmed in Black in White and set in the early 1900's and filmed near Dunwich.
Popular Post serrated-banner9
A Christmas classic, me and my family watch it every year and it's still as entertaining and hilarious as a first watch, if you have yet to watch it for some reason then you should as it's one of the best Christmas films.
