Phlegeth
Just watched Scrooged. I might've seen it once on like TBS or Comedy Central a long, looong time ago so it was like watching it for the first time. It was a great movie. A nice take on the Scrooge story. Loved the Ghost of Christmas Present. Fun fact, that movie came out the same year I was born.
Popular Post Redgrave
Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No it's... These aren't exactly what I would call Holiday themed movies but don't worry I got something in mind for that later this week. Anyway, I felt like watching these since seeing the Suicide Squad game leaks made me want to see a Superman that isn't horribly written. I also remember seeing them a long time ago and I remembered the pacing of them being different than what they actually are. For example, I thought I remembered Pa Kent being in the first movie longer but he winds up dying like 20 minutes in. And I guess Ma Kent is never seen again despite being Clark's remaining parental figure. I also just thought the movies were longer but I think it's more that some scenes are slower which I'm not really knocking since that was kind of how a lot of movies were back then but I still enjoyed them. They are campy but I can't help but love those moments. I think I like Superman II more because it has General Zod and I think him and the others thinking Earth was called Planet Houston was funny. There's also a chance (like 99%) I was crushing on Ursa. But on top of all that it was just entertaining seeing how they had a 3v1 Kryptonian fight happen back then with those special effects. Probably my favorite moment is when the people in Metropolis think Superman is dead and despite seeing what Zod and the others can do they try to fight them anyway. I felt like there should have been a scene like that in Man of Steel since I like the idea of regular citizens standing up for the beaten down superhero like in Spider-Man 1 and 2. Of course they wind up not being able to do anything because Zod and the Kryptonian Gang use their super breath to generate the power of 50 industrial strength fans to blow everyone away. Overall very enjoyable and campy. The only caveat is the powers Superman seems to pull out of nowhere near the end of the movies. I know it's Superman and in terms of the comics at the time this was fairly common but man does it make it hard to defend against Super-Slander when people say Superman can do anything when he does some very strange things like pull the S off his shirt and throw it or have an amnesiac kiss. Even Zod and the Kryptonian Gang wind up kind of doing something similar where they point their fingers at someone and they float in the air via a laser beam. Who do they think they are, Green Lantern? The last thing is just how damn good John Williams' theme is. When I think of Superman doing anything heroic this is the song that comes into my mind and the only thing that has come close to it is Shirley Walker's theme for Superman The Animated Series. I desperately wish we could get a good Superman game that can at least have a theme that is similar to either of them.

wolvieware
This week I have watched Spirited Christmas movie with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell. I liked the concept it took with A Christmas Carol, but it was a bit too long and the endings morales seemed a bit off. Not really a Christmas movie but seems to be on in the UK every festive season: Escape to Victory. Good fun, shows its age a little but it’s engaging and entertaining enough. Sly is surprisingly good in this and I love how they used real footballers with limited acting skills in the team rather than actors with limited football skills!
Slava
The Color of Money I love how Scorsese picks the shots. The pool scenes were fantastic. Almost as eye-catching as Tom Cruise's hair in this film. Everyone's acting was great across the board. I also liked how well the songs fit the scenes, from the music to the lyrics. That said, I couldn't get into the story and the conflict until the very end, even though the character relationships were established well. Maybe it's because I haven't watched The Hustler, or maybe the movie was missing something for me. Also watched The Boy and the Heron, but decided that I'll be posting my thoughts about anime movies here. Don_Chipotle
The Creator (2023 film) - Wikipedia Amazing film with great yet simple plot twists, one of those kind of movies where its not the destination, but how the ride its made, great concept about humans fighting humans with AI support, actors do a great job and it feels an amazing chemistry between them, many little details in the movie universe that make this a must watch film for sci fi fans and average people.

Popular Post Slava
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Came home from work and thought "I should rewatch the old Tomb Raider movie today, it's been ages since I last saw it". So I did. Is it worse than I remember it being 15-20 years ago? Yes. But there was still enough to enjoy. It's cast pretty much perfectly. Jolie is Lara. The movie's main mission was to make Lara Croft cool, and Jolie accomplished her part. Iain Glen is a decent villain. Chris Barrie made me smile more than once. Daniel Craig was hot. The two most memorable scenes that stayed with me since I was a kid were my favourite moments of the movie this time as well, namely the mansion invasion part and the Cambodia part. The rest felt like it was sloppy and/or rushed/undercooked. The movie is tight at 100 minutes, but maybe it could've used a little more time. For example, they could've developed Alex more (seriously, that was it?). What I noticed more this time was the mysticism, specifically the parts with Lara being led to the tomb's actual location. The juxtaposition between the bad guys using a crowd of locals to break a wall in Cambodia and Lara's way inside was cute. I also liked how her relationship with her father is portrayed, how important they are to each other. Even if it's not shown explicitly, you can feel that he hoped to raise a strong and courageous daughter, while Lara would want to make him proud. In terms of video game adaptations, this one probably belongs in the top half, but as we all know, that's not saying much. I don't remember the sequel nearly as well, so I'm curious if it's right beside the first one in terms of quality. And finally, here's an idea for a drinking game for this film: drink every time you hear the word "Bugger".

PHIL_DADDY1
Watched Wonka at the movies 2 days ago, at a cute regional cinema. I have never watched a movie with Timothée Chalamet, but this guy can act! Gene Wilder would be proud! Great cameos by Rowen Atkinson & Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa. A great movie for all the family…

Popular Post Slava
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life I know I had seen The Cradle of Life before but couldn't remember anything that happens after its first 15 minutes. Now that I've rewatched it, I can see why. Even though it's not terrible in any one particular aspect, The Cradle of Life is generally unremarkable. Lara isn't nearly as cool as she was in the first film. The complicated relationship with Gerard Butler's character is uninteresting. Visually, the movie is unimaginative, except for maybe a couple of moments. Somehow, this movie reminded me of Mission: Impossible 2. Both plots center around biological weapons, and both movies have forgettable villains. Only MI2 is way better when it comes to action. You'd think the director of Speed would manage to make a Tomb Raider movie exciting, but it is what it is.

Popular Post MrGarland
Chicken Run Enjoyment: 10/10 I remember seeing this in the cinemas as a kid and second time as a teen. When I got a notification from Netflix where they mentioned that they'd add this to their catalogue, I was excited to see it once more. Having finished rewatching it after so many years, is it still a great movie? Absolutely. It still has a few moments that are rather awkward to watch these days. I'm also going to question the size of that pie machine. How huge is it inside? It doesn't look that big outside. Other than that, it's still a classic movie. Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget Enjoyment: 10/10 After 20 years, we finally got a sequel. I have to admit, it came as a complete surprise, as I saw the trailer a few days before it was released on Netflix. I also watched right before the end of 2023, as I didn't have enough time before that. When it comes to the sequel, I actually liked it. I even found myself laughing a couple of times when watching it. The humor is what you'd except from Aardman, if you've seen their products before. The only question I have to ask: Spoiler Where's Mr. Tweedy? Seeing that Mrs. Tweedy is in the movie, it makes me wonder how her former husband is doing.

Popular Post Redgrave
A part of me still can't believe I actually sat down to watch these. I guess I'll start with Batman Forever since that one was the departure of the more serious and dark stuff from the Burton movies as well as other Batman stuff in general at the time. To be honest, I can't say I was really into it very much although I think the cast certainly do their best. It is kind of weird seeing Tommy Lee Jones be campy and goofy as Two-Face especially since I'm more used to seeing him be in either serious roles or something where he's deadpan kind of like Agent K in Men in Black. As for Jim Carrey as The Riddler I thought it was a bit too over the top and it's a shame that it took two decades to get another Riddler on screen again. At least he didn't hide hundreds of green question mark trophies all around Gotham for Batman to find or else the movie would have been at least six hours long. Probably the most positive thing about it for me is the addition of Robin since I felt like they did the character fine and his portrayal by Chris O'Donnel was good. I do wish we got to see how that Robin would have been if it was more like the Tim Burton movies. Batman & Robin & The Bat Credit Card for some bizarre reason is something I have a soft spot for. It might be because as a kid I remember watching the beginning part on VHS although I remember checking out after that point. It could also be because the time I actually watched it all the way through was a pretty comfy winter night where I was at my uncle's house and they had some other nephew of theirs over and we watched it then. Though since then I never watched it all the way through. I also think as it aged people have mostly come to accept it at least that's how I see it. Back when it came out I totally understand the mindset of not liking it especially if you were a fan of the Burton movies and The Animated Series. Obviously Mr. Freeze is the biggest factor since if you watched TAS you were used to seeing him be this sympathetic tragic villain that is willing to do bad things to save his wife and then in the movie he's just a straight up goofball that does ice puns all the time. Granted, they do have the part where he wants to save his wife but it's overshadowed by the campiness and Arnold's performance. If there is one genuinely good thing I can say about it, it's that the sets are really nice to look at. They look well made and while they are colorful they aren't too colorful to where it's annoying to look at them. I guess it also helps that they have that 90's feel to them especially with how there's that one scene where Ivy and Bane fight that group of gang members with glow in the dark facepaint and their hideout has that kind of 90's rave look to it. It really feels like something from that era while also feeling like a homage (I suppose) to the Adam West Batman. Basically it's like if the Tim Burton and Adam West Batman did the fusion dance, this is what you would get. As far as the cast goes I think George Clooney was the perfect pick for this kind of Batman, and I liked Robin still even if I felt like the whole thing where he was accusing Batman of wanting to steal Ivy went on for longer than it should have. I also always thought Robin kind of looked like Reiko in Mortal Kombat 4 and I almost want to believe it's not a coincidence. The one character I think was done dirty though was my guy Bane. I think the camp factor could have been cranked up higher if they at least let him act like an over the top wrestling figure than just the brute that can barely say two words, although I prefer him when he's intelligent while also having strength to fight Batman on his own. I also give them credit for having this Smashing Pumpkins song as the credits. Ironically enough another version of this song would be used for one of the Watchmen trailers. wolvieware
The Super Mario Bros Movie - this was ok, perhaps better than expected. The art style was stunning, really did a good job. I loved seeing some of the homages to the games, such as early on when it becomes a 2D scroller for a scene. But I think the game mostly coasts along on the references rather than actually tell a decent story, or have any sense of progression. Perhaps having gotten all of this out of the way, the sequel might be a better movie as such, but this was still fun.

I mean, this was for many before silent hill 1 movie considered one of the best videogame movie adaptations back in the day, there were many less movie videogames, but they really nailed the date when the game was still very popular, and they took a great IP for the average people to know. Also yes, that movie soundtrack its just amazing On topic: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000 film) - Wikipedia Cant believe this film is 23 years old, its crazy how great the film keeps, few green screen, and great visual effects as well as a great acting and some what the hell moments i forgot existed (yeah that scene with the dog and the mayor when he is sleeping) , but it still a great movie with an amazing message and characters Edited January 2 by Don_Chipotle
