Wait, what newcomers rules? I've heard nothing about this.

This is what I know. Due to porn spamming at some point in the past, brand new accounts have limitations on the number of times they can post for at least a couple of weeks. This isn't disclosed very well. What happens is the reply, quote, etc buttons on threads just disappear. If you manipulate the URL to force it to appear to edit a past post, it's grayed out and you can type but it won't let you actually post any changes. I've seen a few people mention that they could see the date where the limitation would leave. I think this would be viewable for only them on their forum profile, but I am not sure.

I think they need 25 posts to comment in some sections now. Definitely in contests section.

That's weird, I haven't heard of that up until now. Not really a fan of that change but since it's been implemented already it should really be updated in the new members thread as you already suggested. As someone who pretty much only comments on the community events section it's upsetting to see it's being blocked off to new members.

Remember the guys that were putting up contests, and Sly came in and confirmed they had the same IP address? Well, that's when and why this rule was instated. Does suck for newer members, but if it's in an effort to keep that guy from scamming people..

I agree. Its funny because when using the search feature trying to find out about this, I found a couple posts months back where veterans of the forums are complaining about new comers bugging them in the chat room about not being able to post and stuff. So it's kind of like this issue is known, but I can't find something where the change was specifically announced or explained.

I think its been longer. I read something about someone spamming porn pics and Sly had to shut it down.

I'm not so sure. But it's hard to confirm since those threads were deleted.. But I believe he told Professor Plat he was doing it, and would let him try in vain to reach 25 posts with any other accounts he decides to make to make another contest.

Maybe it's a two-part problem. Pron spam made it so you can only post X amount of times in first couple of weeks. Contest guy now made it so you also can't post in community events until you have 25 posts elsewhere. At least one camper made an initial post here to give us their list of games and then got locked down and couldn't tell us about stuff they completed for a day or two after they did it and I had already updated the thread by then and stole a little bit of their thunder.

Here's an example that pre-dates contest guy. This was in March. OP says they can't post on anything but could before. Someone replies that they couldn't do more than 5 posts per day initially. This talks about the pron spam. But I really searched this stuff out one day and found approxmately 20 different mentions of new accounts being restricted in the forums and the porn thing was brought up more than once. Also, one of the dumbest things was someone that clearly knew the situation complaining about people always going into the chat feature to ask why they can't post and how annoying it was to explain it over and over. But still didn't try to clarify it in the forums.

On the front page of the forums, under the community events title, it has the restriction.

Good to know. that's easy to miss because many people find this by clicking from the home page. We're active enough that's usually there.

No Problem Toogs! Happy to help with one of your events, especially since everyone wanted to camp this summer! :D

LOL. I'm glad I finally took you up on the offer. I think the forum software was having trouble with the amount of info in the OP.

@coolsnowvil - Here's my own suggestions for your profile:

Akiba's Trip - I think it could fit for Make Friends, Put on a Show, and Be a Hermit  Technically also Tell a Ghost Story, but the vampires are on par with Twilight vampires for how silly they can be except this game doesn't even try to be serious about them.  Learn something is also a potential pick since you learn some stuff about otaku culture and the Akihabara area of Japan.

Tales from the Borderlands - I think this could fit as a bonus or for Shoot Something.  Also possibly Make Friends.

Bejeweled 3 - Obviously a great fit for Be a Hermit since it's a puzzle game

Final Fantasy XIII - Seriously, put this as Make Something.  With the amount of time you'll spend on Treasure Hunter and doing upgrades that's a great fit.  Also a good fit for Make Friends and Go Hiking.  Could also work as a bonus.

Final Fantasy X - Would be a great fit for Make Friends, Play a Sport, Go Hiking, Tell a Ghost Story or Hang out at the Lake

Final Fantasy X-2 - Put on a Show would be a great fit for this one.  Also Play a Sport, Be a Hermit, Shoot Something or maybe the bonus

Kingdom Hearts - Make Something, Make Friends, Tell a Ghost Story, Get Tested, Be a Hermit, Go Hiking

The Walking Dead - Tell a Ghost Story would be an obvious one, as would Survive

speaking of survive, I'm wondering if bulletstorm would fit this category...the only trophies I've worked on during this event have been for a mode called "anarchy" that puts you and a partner up against waves of incoming enemies that get increasingly difficult which you need to survive in order to complete...if this fits I'd like to add it to my list...it's been quite the ordeal to finish (due to finding compatible gamers able to use gonespy - going through this process alone is like surviving...haha...) and would be nice if it went towards cabin 9's progress...thoughts?...

Anarchy mode fits perfectly in this category if u ask me. It's a mixture of survival and arcade.

Also if I remember correctly there were 1 or 2 objectives like "Survive the Ambush" in the campaign.

Okay, so thanks to a surprise new release that I'm definitely playing I'm going to swap some categories around.  I'd been waiting a year for the next Higurashi chapter to come to Steam at last.

Going to change Sora no Kiseki the 3rd to Get Tested because you have to beat it on the highest difficulty to get the plat and also because many elements of the plot are about testing the characters and having them overcome their inner struggles.

And in place of it for Shoot Something I'm going to put in Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.6 Tsumihoroboshi on Steam.  I admit, I'm totally putting it there because of the title of the first achievement in the list which is called "The Great Water Gun Disaster".  I'll start this one once I finish episode 5 of Umineko.

-is spending way too much time preparing for the murder run in Prey-
Chipping away at the Awesomness grind in Legends. I think I've got used to New Little King's Story enough to buckle down and get through the main story with no problems. The only mildly intimidating things are encyclopedias and money grind, but I'm hoping that the bulk of it will come along naturally.

Wrapped up the Plants vs Zombies plat! Feels like I started it more than four months ago, though.

Fun game, if repetitive. Can't say how it changes when playing the PvP modes that rotate in, but co-op's not bad at all. Generally, I found it most enjoyable in small bursts here and there.

In full spirit of the "something" portion of the category title, the platinum was earned by shooting sentient thistles with a porcupine.

Now that those are done, I'm trying to expand my list but having some trouble. Any suggestions?

Learn Something - Assassin's Creed Origins  :platinum:
Shoot Something - Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2  :platinum:
Tell a Ghost Story - Nihilumbra
Survive - Claire: Extended Edition
Hang out at the Lake - Assassin's Creed III  (maybe)
Get Tested - Dragon Age: Inquisition
Make Friends -
Play a Sport - Final Fantasy XV
Go Hiking - Severed
Make Something -
Put on a Show -
Be a Hermit - Syberia
BONUS CATEGORY: Summer Vacation -

And then some random short stuff from the PS backlog that may or may not fit anywhere:
Blood Knights
Doki-Doki Universe
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
MonsterBag
The Order: 1886
Uncanny Valley

I can fill in blanks from Steam if it comes down to it.

Preferably a long game:

Fallout 3 / 4 / New Vegas  (never played the series)
Final Fantasy XV

Blood Knights
Doki-Doki Universe
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
MonsterBag
Severed
Syberia
The Order: 1886
Uncanny Valley

Final Fantasy XV fits in Play a Sport (fishing), go hiking, and bonus category (roadtrip is def a vacation activity)
Severed fits in go hiking

Syberia fits in Be a Hermit

And for stuff I see on your profile that isn't 100%
Welcome Park fits Be A Hermit

Final Fantasy Type-0 fits Make Friends  and Go Hiking

Thank you, especially on FFXV! I thought my only non-sports game on PS was FFX, and that didn't seem reasonable to attempt in this timeframe.

Type-0's one of a handful of unfinished rentals on my profile, sadly.

Camp update #3: got the Resident Evil 7 platinum!  Very creepy game the first time through but the next few times not so much.  Madhouse is a lot easier after getting bonus items though.

Also, could I change my friendship game from Sims 3 to Life is Strange: Before the Storm?  Thanks.

@SyIaris The Order 1886 could fit into a few categories. The one that make the most sense with your open spots would be Go Hiking. Make friends works ok too because there is a lot of testing of loyalties and not knowing which side is right or wrong or neither or both. So you have to make questionable alliances. Theres also some interesting historical connections. They are highly fictional but perhaps with a stretch, learn something could apply.

Awesome. I just purchased this game tonight. I think it will sit in my drawer until the Fall though.

Another plat for Cabin #1, I knocked out Forma8 today and despite the protests from dragon and Kent I actually really enjoyed it, The puzzles weren't too difficult and as you can probably tell from how fast I got it done, not too long a game :) I'll be jumping into God of War after I watch Australia lose our first match of the World Cup
