Popular Post Bratinov
Plat 56: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Fun: 10/10 Difficulty 3.5/10 Rockstar's finest. Great characters, story, gameplay, sense of progression, music! It's a shame you can't use the leviathan's magnet to finish the export lists faster, It's in the game, dammit! Plat 57: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 Fun: 6/10 Difficulty: 5/10 It's an ok game, the story is terrible thought. It's really short, so...a faster Plat? The only hard thing about it are the Combo and Holocron Retrieval challenges. - I'm not sure what is it about it, but it seems to me the Jump/Dash/Boost Combo works whenever it feels like it. ? Popular Post voodoo_eyes
#539 - Cyberdimension Neptunia and a whole bunch of pointless words This started out quite well and then turned into a slog of an absolute shitshow. The worst friendly AI I've ever come across. Healing at full health, not healing when almost dead, this with two healers in the party. The bosses just repeat themselves over and over again and by the end of the game you've beaten each of them 3-5 times. Speaking of bosses... the amount of times that I got stuck in the environment after a boss attack is ridiculous, with no way to dodge and move it's always been a guaranteed death. This could've been a solid game, but it's just a dull mess. Popular Post snakebit10
#341 The 3rd and final Spyro game finished. I started it in February but I wasn't feeling it and put it down. Started back at it a few days ago and I ended up really enjoying it. Another of the classic collections I got to play because of remasters/remakes. I missed so many of them on the PS1 and PS2 days as I was mostly into sports games then.
Popular Post JoaLoft
#249 - Final Fantasy VII Remake It took me over a year, but finally I nailed it. I got my shiny Final Fantasy VII Remake platinum trophy, after playing through the game twice and jumping between chapters for smaller clean-up sessions. Two things stood out most when I dove into one of the most anticipated games and the most anticipated remake in human history: They nailed the remake. Oh God they pulled it off. Those visuals. The voice acting. The fast-paced action. The soundtrack! Oh God, that soundtrack! Wow, the story actually holds up very well, and is even more prevalent today than it was twenty years ago! You see, Final Fantasy VII focuses on an eco-terrorist group called "Avalanche", fighting against the evil power company Shinra, sucking the planet's resources dry with huge Mako-reactors. The group hires the help of ex-SOLDIER and rock-hard hair gel poster boy (seriously, that spiky hairdo) Cloud Strife to blow up the reactors in the polluting metropolis Midgar, and help save the planet from the greedy corporation. But things get intriguing very quickly when Cloud comes face-to-face very early on with Sephiroth, a dangerous adversary from his past, been assumed dead for five years. Dealing with the aftermath of their actions and suffering from visions of Sephiroth, Cloud teams up with Avalanche members Barret and old friend Tifa, and Aerith, a mysterious girl who may just hold the key to saving the world, as they play a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with Shinra and deal with the evil powers intertwined with their past and future. The story about saving the planet's resources from economic opportunism still rings very true today, making it a tale that feels anything but outdated. This first act of the multipart remake has a lot of standout moments, although a few parts feel stretched out too much, to lengthen the original game's Midgar section. Aside from that, the short sidequests also feel bland and are just there for extra padding. But the main focus lies on the story, thank God. The combat is amazing, each character flows differently and has a strong set of moves, supported by a lot of shiny upgradeable Materia and badass summons. The story beats hit extra hard, reimagined with such exquisite detail. The world of Final Fantasy VII has been recreated beautifully and the soundtrack is incredible. Nobuo Uematsu's work has been done justice in this modernized and fantastic soundtrack! It is still one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made, and it begs to be played by everyone. Talking about trophies for a minute: they are what you'd expect. Completing all the chapters, collecting all the weapons and collectibles, learning all skills, some miscellaneous ones here and there. And of course there's one for beating the game on Hard Mode, which only unlocks after you beat it on a lower difficulty. What makes this one interesting, is that usage of all items is prohibited. Healing and magic attacks all have to mainly come from using your MP. Here's another catch: you can't replenish your MP in traditional ways, so you need to use spells very sparingly. There are a few ways around this, and yet you'll still need to keep a close eye on MP usage throughout all chapters. Thankfully, you can play through the highest difficulty setting with all your upgraded loadouts and characters, everything carries over. Part 2 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project can not come soon enough. I can not wait to enter the open world, to cross the sea from Junon Harbor, partake in the Gold Saucer's many events, visit Nibelheim, and so much more. One thing though? Those Whispers which are the only bad addition to this reimagining. Those can get out and stay the hell out, both in terms of gameplay and narrative. Most frustrating trophy - Ultimate Weapon Let me start off by stating that the ultimate weapon itself, the Pride and Joy prototype, is not the real problem here. If anything, this final boss in the hardest optional challenge is not actually difficult to defeat. It's the build-up to it that promoted this golden trophy to be the most frustrating one I had to worry about. To beat this optional boss, you need to defeat the hardest VR challenge in the game (don't worry, not that kind of real-life VR). Let me explain: in Final Fantasy VII Remake, at specific intervals you will get the chance to fight in a separate colosseum and VR arena to beat sets of challenges of five rounds both alone and as teams. These yield specific rewards, so overcoming them lets you score some fancy loot. The last six or seven of the VR arena (including that last difficult one) all have to be played on Hard difficulty, even if you are playing on a lower setting. Which means the same rules apply: no item usage and higher damage output by the enemies. MP and HP do replenish for a maximum of 50% between fights. Unlocking this "Ultimate Weapon" bout means you have to beat all previous challenges, of which multiple ones seemed pointless. They add nothing interesting, aside from helping you and your Materia level up quicker. And then, the final challenge itself lets you contend with four summons, and the Pride and Joy prototype at the end. Most summons provide little challenge, with the exception of Leviathan who can be annoying in the second half of the fight. But Bahamut - which is round 4 - on Hard was something else. Jesus Christ. Bahamut's ultimate attack, Megaflare, wipes everyone with 9999 damage after a countdown if you don't have any defensive spells active. Not just that: halfway he summons Ifrit to join him! Dealing with two summons is nothing less than aggravating. It took me three tries to beat him, one of which I was doing so well that paradoxically enough, it screwed me over! I was whittling down Bahamut's HP so fast in my second attempt that I reached 50% of his health before he used his Megaflare attack. The consequences were a pain in the ass: Ifrit spawned and sidetracked me, I was focusing on him and lost sight of the remaining countdown to Megaflare, forgetting to cast defensive spells. I got wiped as a result. The third time, I did survive and beat him, and the very last battle against the prototype was laughably easy compared to Mister "Imma Spawn Ifrit Out of Nowhere And Then Blast Your Ass To Kingdom Come With Megaflare LOL". When you do finally get that last one in the bag, you are rewarded with the oh so glorious "Götterdämmerung" accessory. This starts off one character with an instantly full Limit Break bar in every single battle, and helps charge the same bar quickly in between, effectively granting you multiple killer Limit Breaks in longer battles. This thing helps you out on Hard difficulty a lot, as it is arguably the most powerful accessory in the game. Did Bahamut frustrate the crap out of me? Yes, yes he did. Was it worth doing all the challenges when it's all said and done, just for this one accessory? Heck yes.
Popular Post arcanehornet_
Platinum #329~ Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Here’s one platinum I wasn’t sure I would ever get, so I’m over the moon (get it?) to finally have this ultra rare plat in my collection. This is overall a pretty decent Borderlands game. I really liked the new abilities, like low gravity, gliding and lasers, but the story and characters just didn’t grab me the same way as Borderlands 2 did. Still, gameplay wise, this is the same game so if you enjoyed BL2, you’ll probably enjoy this one too. About the plat: Tedious. Very tedious. Your first playthrough, if playing in coop, will be super fun all around. I did this playthrough over 2 years ago now. Once you finish that first playthrough though, it starts becoming very boring. Your first task in the post game will be completing all 60 (!!) sidequests. My Co-op partner dropped out by this point, so this was just a menial grind of fetch quests, going from point A to point B, etc. Overall though, it was still pretty manageable. I was very overpowered so this wasn’t much of a challenge. Then comes the big one: “Challenger” which requires you to complete level 1 of all challenges. You complete challenges by doing things like killing enemies a specific way, with a specific weapon, etc. You get the idea. So what makes this so bad? The sheer AMOUNT of challenges there are and how much grinding you’ll have to do to complete them. Most of the time you’ll be running he same area of enemies over and over, killing them in different ways. Is this what Vaas meant when he asked us about the definition of insanity? There’s some really bad challenges that actually get HARDER once you’re more powerful and have better guns. So for some challenges, I intentionally had to seek out low level weapons so I could even complete them. The worst challenges by far, however, are the Grinder challenges. The grinder is basically a machine, which you can feed 3 weapons into to get a random weapon in return. The worst challenge related to this is getting 20 Luneshine weapons. Whether you get one is 100% RNG when you do a moonstone grind. There’s two tricks you can use to mitigate this. 1, keep spawning in new characters with a second controller and give their default weapons to your main character to have something to grind. 2, if you do not get a luneshine weapon, hard quit the game to the dashboard, load back in, and you will have kept all your weapons and moonstones so you can try again. While the idea of this challenge is completely asinine, I was actually very lucky and managed to complete it in 2 hours. Thank god it’s done. Sorry for another super long post guys, but this game has been the bane of my existance for a long time now, and I had to get it out. With this, I’ve platted all 4 main Borderlands games to date. Hooray! Fun: 8/10 (first playthrough) 5/10 (post game)Difficulty: 4/10 Time: Probably 60+ hours Edited April 14, 2021 by arcanehornet_
Popular Post OakfieldPark
Subnautica #30. I've wanted to play this game ever since I saw it's alpha/beta release on Steam all those years ago and after seeing it free at the PS Store I've got to be honest I was really chuffed. It's awesome! Art style is great, there's some funky looking fish out there and their audio is fantastic too, the sounds some of the creatures make are so damn immersive. The atmosphere is gorgeous and it really has a sense of dread in the deeper areas where sunlight doesn't reach - does a good job in tapping into the ol' thalassophobia. Downsides, ok I blue-screened more than a few times although I am on a base PS4 so that's unfortunately becoming pretty much a given with every game at this point, my old girl is really getting on now. The constant fear of my game crashing meant I was manually saving a lot however after the first couple of hours of gameplay it becomes insanely long to save, I timed them towards the end and they were taking anywhere between 3-5 minutes to save the game. While it's saving you can't really travel as the world starts to lag and nothing spawns in, also found out the hard way if you die while it's saving it won't count, so I just had to pause the game and browse Reddit every time which really tears you out of the immersion it does so well in wrapping you in. I don't think I've ever experienced a game with that problem before but again, it's probably just my base PS4. Anyway, great game, the story is well-crafted, doesn't hold your hand gameplay-wise and feels like the bread and butter of great survival games.

Popular Post rjkclarke
Platinum #316 Shadow of the Colossus (PS4) The Horned Boy Acquired All Trophies I feel like I'm about to sound like a miniaturized Parrot has just crawled inside my brain through my ear and is about to make me go "BWARRK SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS REMAKE IS AMAZING, BWARRRK." On a slightly more serious note, I'll try and keep this fairly brief. (Although I do always seem to fail at that one! I went to Edit and whoaaaah was I wrong, I ended up having loads to say but I'll leave it in just for my optimism at the start haha.) I did have quite a lot to say about the PS3 version and there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two, if you want to read that its a couple of pages back. This game REALLY is amazing though. I played the PS3 version of Shadow of the Colossus about two weeks ago so the fact that in less than a month I have essentially played through this game about twelve times and never really felt bored AT ALL is a testament to the quality of Shadow of the Colossus just as a whole, remake or otherwise. Bluepoint, did such a fantastic job with recreating this even if you are taking into account just the visuals alone. There are a few area's that are noticeably a bit different, some of the area's that had dense tree's and plant life have been expanded upon quite a bit, which makes them feel a lot more spacious than they did on the previous version. There is a small bit of irony I thought in the fact that the vibrancy of the colours in this version actually make it harder to spot the Shining Lizards. (There was quite a lot of blends of greys and brown in the PS3 version, so the shiny bits were much easier to see.) Although I guess that is less of a problem in the PS4 version as it contains different trophies so you DON'T actually need to collect all the Lizards anyway, just find what you can and you'll have to do less repeat playthroughs. The OST and the Sound Design in the PS4 version are as immaculate as they always have been, with the odd nice new flourish added to them here and there. One of the best new additions I think actually involved the use of Sound Design, which was a very clever deliberate choice to add a female voice layered on top of Dormin's existing voice, which made perfect sense to me if Dormin is an amalgamation of multiple parts there's no reason why all of those should be male, so I thought that ended up being a very cool addition that is easy to gloss over. I guess some people could make the argument that this game is too faithful, but I don't really think that's particularly a detriment when it comes to video game remakes. By their nature as video games, I feel like they have got a duty to capture at least what the essence of the originals gameplay was and then maybe add some quality of life improvements, this does that and then some. It should always feel like the same game. I like that this version has quite a few different trophies compared to the PS3 version, I feel like I might have enjoyed it less if I was essentially doing everything in the PS3 version a second time, I always welcome variety. In a way I suppose you can compare this game to Gus Van Sant's cinematic attempt in the 90's to make a practically shot for shot remake of Psycho, except in Shadow of the Colossus' case it actually does work. I suppose mainly due to how the story is fairly minimal, as is dialogue, so as long you don't mess with the gameplay elements too much then you would always get a great result as long as you can effectively recreate the original games atmosphere, which again this does very well. I mean its not all perfect obviously, there are a few strange design choices. Colossus #7 (Hydrus I think) is now covered in fluorescent yellow/orange lights so now and this might just be my weird interpretation of it, but I think now its covered in lights it kind of looks like a really long football sock covered in Christmas lights. I know its basically a giant electric Eel but still made me laugh a bit haha. The games physics are still a little bit weird too, Wander does maintain his balance a lot better in the PS4 version, but he does still jump and move around like one of those animal shaped balloons that walk along the ground, but because his balance is better I think quite a few elements of the game are a lot easier like the Colossus Time Trials. The PS4 version however, is a colossally (Yes, pun intended) easy platinum compared to the PS3 version, it isn't necessarily easier its just much quicker and there are quite a few shortcuts you can use to basically cut your playtime down significantly. For example in this version you don't have to find every single Lizard and fruit on the map if you don't want to. I like that they put in the trophy for saving at all the save shrines again though, because that means you do get to see the vast majority of the amazing job they did faithfully recreating the original game. Also you can have the Hard Time Attack and Normal Time Attack Items on the same file, so you can essentially grind the Colossi using the Queen's Sword in this version so you can kill them much quicker than in the PS3 version and restart NG+ playthroughs if you cant be bothered to kill a particular Colossi and just want to restart your playthrough from that part. I was actually really glad that the game had these quality of life improvements, it was nice being able to use items I had earned to make Hard mode a breeze, which it isn't that difficult anyway its just substantially longer because of how much extra damage the Colossi take. I did very much welcome the new trophies though, especially the few tasking you with killing Colossi a certain way, that was a very unique addition I thought. I would honestly recommend this to anybody who hasn't played it before or anyone who has access to a PS4/PS5 and had always wanted to. Ironically you would essentially get the same experience whatever version you played. I ended up playing both though and ironically I was for the longest time of the mindset of " Why do you need to remake this, its pretty much perfect as is" But I yield this version is great and I don't have a problem admitting when I'm wrong. I'm assuming this version and the PS3 version don't count as a stack? I don't think remakes do, if so I guess this is the first time I've stacked something, but then if remakes do count then I did that with Ratchet and Clanks remake years ago. Still I don't mind I'm not against stacking or anything, I just personally struggle a bit with repetition so I've never done it in case it tarnished my initial enjoyment. I'll probably edit that previous bit out at some point as it looks like a strange stream of consciousness haha. To reiterate though, do yourselves a favour and get around to playing this if it is on your backlog or the PS3 version, it truly is one of those gaming experiences everybody should have at some point I think, if they can. Whilst remakes seem to be the in thing right now, I really wish some underappreciated IP's would get the remake treatment though. I desperately want a Legacy of Kain remake, any one will do. I think that game series whilst a little janky gameplay wise have got some of the richest and deepest lore, that is essentially just confined to video game history now. Still I can dream right? Overall I enjoyed my time banging around in the various internal parts of my PS5 and think this bodes well for games in the future. Popular Post Biscoito18
#97 - Watch Dogs: Legion Enjoyment: 7/10 Difficulty: 3/10 I loved this futuristic version of London and the ability to recruit any NPC. The spiderbot and cargo drones are excellent exploration tools and the most fun part of the game for me was using them to look for items that are very well hidden around the city. Unfortunately, the lack of attention to detail constantly hurts the experience. Worst of all, however, is the small variety of puzzles and repetitive missions. From the middle to the end, everything was feeling more like a job than a game. Most Creative Trophy: You Don't See Me! Although the execution is a bit annoying, I can't deny that escaping a level 5 police chase by disguising myself as a living statue is a pretty out of the box idea that I've never seen before anywhere.

Did play this game a lot back on PS2 but never defeated Sephiroth so I'm glad to have finally settled the score with that one-wing bastard. Like KH 1 FM I did everything on Final Mix/Normal difficulty level, only some Replica Datas of Organization XIII took me some tries and Terra's Lingering Will took me some tries to master Stun Loop Exploit so that bastarded haunted armor could not kill me before I "exorcisted" him. Critical difficulty level was not too hard for me besides Xaldin and Roxas.
