And so a third Madden game is added to my profile, following Madden 11 (the one with Drew Brees on the cover, played in 2011) and the Vita version of Madden 13 (Calvin Johnson, played earlier this year). Despite being a continental European I get inexplicable itches for American Football sometimes, and with the IRL 2021 season in full swing now was the time to try one of these games on PS4.

 

Out of all the sports games that release anually to scam offer consumers updated rosters and negligible exciting new features, Madden has been the easiest to Plat since about 2017 or so. That fits my agenda just fine, as I just need my itch scratched without having to log dozens of hours into what are very shallow and often times broken games. Take the reach mechanic, new for 2018 and at the centre of this Trophy. It barely ever works and is incredibly luck-based when going up against the AI (a lot easier when boosting or using a second controller, but I'm not about to buy a new DualSense for that purpose). Have your defensive lineman engage the opposing offensive lineman, hope the ball carrier tries to rush past you, and hit L1 or R1 (depending on which side he runs) to try and tackle him too.

 

 

Took a few hours while I grinded for the mindless Full Set Trophy, but I did finally unlock. Got all the way up to the 'E' of Eagles before I managed to land that R1 after a couple of near misses with other teams. Took some editing of Garoppolo's stats to discourage him from throwing, but on the snowy turf of Lincoln Financial Field it finally registered. Now I've just got Triple Crown left in terms of annoying chance-based on-the-field Trophies, plus lots of random stuff to clean off having done the Longshot story mode a few days ago.

 

If you've ever been curious about trying Madden, I'd encourage you to go with 19 or 21 which are both a wee bit easier than this one, although 19 too will force you to unlock Reach Out. Yes, really; EA has been copy+pasting most of the Trophy list between games, but when they're as relatively easy as these.... well, I mustn't complain. I'll do 19 and 20 early next year before waiting for 21 to drop in price towards the end of 2022 - I already claimed the free PS5 version off of a immediately-returned used copy back when that offer was still valid.

One of the Easter egg trophies with an awesome reference to Indiana Jones. 

 

In Santa Fortuna you have to get the shaman costume then knock out a specific NPC for their house key. This spawns a golden idol you need to steal from their house and take it to a tunnel with a little altar for the idol. Placing the idol here reveals a hidden tunnel where you then need to cross a booby trapped floor section to retrieve a dagger at the far end of the room. 

 

Hitman has some great Easter eggs, I think my favorites are the ones where you can summon the kraken, yes you read that right, the freakin' kraken. Good times.

Moving on to the third game and man, does the game's graphics look good. I like it. In addition to this, while the gameplay hasn't changed much, it still offers new things, like disguises. That was a good idea that the second game didn't quite make good use of. Also, new characters to play as, besides the usual trio. Hot damn.

 

Two Episodes down, moving to the third. The first one (Italy) was pretty fun. I must say that I've been enjoying these games more than I thought. Each game has gotten better and funnier, but will this be the one that takes the crown? I can only hope. If anything, this is possibly the funniest game I've played and for a good reason.

 

Also, the boss battle against Carmelita was downright weird. I've seen a few odd battles in gaming, but this takes the cake.

Update 12/15/2021:

Been playing through the story mode of FFXIV Endwalker for several days now. Just finished it! It's been fun and an interesting experience battling against the long queue wait times. Next I'll gather aetheryte currents and aethernet connections to make the rest of the trophies smoother. Tried playing Fallout 76 a few times but the final quest I Am Become Death is freaking impossible at my level. I'll have to grind out some levels before I can complete that.

Well, I'll be. Some familiar faces from the first game actually appear in this one as well. The battle against Muggshot was much easier than in the first time around. Not only that, but there's also some flying levels. It gives me Crash Bandicoot vibes, but that's actually a good thing. Having some variety is always welcome. 

 

After getting that done, the next character is none other than the Panda King. He was my favorite boss in the first game, but to think that he's a playable in this game. I like how the game surprises me with all these.

Oh this trophy... an absolute pain in the ass. I would probably have killed the equivalent of three times the trophy requirement if it hadn't been for the game being so broken. most grenades just don't explode, or when they explode they just don't kill/cause any damage to the player, and for you to hit a player it's terribly difficult as the maps are huge and the blast radius is very small. nobody uses grenades, they are useless, a broken mechanic. I understand the game is still in beta and is undergoing weekly updates, but damn, what an unfortunate trophy. now with all the kill trophies out of the way, i only need 100 wins (i'm 66/100 currently) and each match takes 15 minutes, i have almost 40 hours of gameplay and 200 matches played, the wins depend a lot on luck and a good team (which is random) i hope soon to be the global 21st achiever of this 100%
