Update time:

Another plat for cabin #9, Demon's Souls is done&done

Ingame counter said 22hrs, I'm not quite sure why people tend to say it's a 100+ hrs plat.  I know you can get unlucky with the Pure Bladestone, but c'mon that's just lazy :dunno:

Also installed Gal Gun, played it for like 5min and de-installed it immediately. Just no.

My List:

Dark Souls Remastered   :platinum:

I AM ALIVE - 9%

Gal Gun Double Peace - 0%

Oxenfree - 0%

Until Dawn - 0%

Demon's Souls :platinum:

Life is Strange - 3 %

good stuff sard...two big plats...gratz...

finally started my first game, life is strange, last night...wrapping up a big contract at work so not much spare time and been kinda zonked...thought I'd choose something easy to play and not so action-packed in terms of gameplay commitment and this one seemed to fit that criteria ...was probably a bad idea as I woke up a few hours later, controller in hand, drooling on my chest...game totally did not grip me but no judgments since I don't remember much and likely only saw the first hour....will post further thoughts on it once complete...

@cjshaitan thanks for your reply and questions...i'm a big fan of sharing thoughts, ideas, and experiences with other people so welcome this kind of discussion any day and with any member...will write a novel at some point in response...don't know how to put stuff in spoilers on my phone so will wait till I'm at my pc to avoid posting an off topic wall of text...

nice event...fun to read up on everyone's progress...I particularly enjoy the cross-cabin banter for some reason...i have a feeling cabin #9 might see a new member over the next few days willing to earn 30 well-categorized plats and put us in contention with the other cabins...haha...

How big a disappointment are we talking I was thinking of checking it out but if it's average I might give it a miss.

I felt it was pretty average and highly overrated myself.  I actually enjoyed it, but it's not really anything special that is deserving of the high level of praise it gets.  There are definitely much better games out there.

Honest truth, I think it's highly acclaimed for one reason: Studio Ghibli is involved in making it.  Everything they make is highly overrated and at best average.  If you think their anime is the best ever, then you'll probably like this game a lot, because it's one of their better works.  If you think their anime is at best average and tends to be overrated, you'll probably think the same of this game.  On top of that, it really has a slow start, so that can be a deterrent as well.

Well the majority of the gamers (around 99%) seems to like it a lot, so finding people that didn't like it is rare. I got it after reading all kinds of praising reviews from other people on this site as RPGs are my favourite gaming genre. It's basically an open-world pokemon game, which sounds good. Here's what I didn't like about the game:

  • The story is extremely childish, predictable, and boring.
  • Human party members are mostly useless and are only good as meat shields.
  • Drippy is also one of the most annoying characters that I've encountered in my ~20 years of playing video games and he just won't shut up. Especially during the first 7 hours of the game, which feels like a tutorial. It's mildly funny to see him be cowardly and hide when danger appears, then take all the credit when it's over, but not throughout the game.I've been told the Japanese voice isn't as earbleeding-inducing as the English voice, but I wasn't aware of Japanese voices being included until after completing it.
  • RNG is also terrible, as catching pokemon is a random event and doesn't happen a lot. Since the pokemon have 2 final evolutions, it's pretty much mandatory to obtain 2 of them for a trophy to have 250 kind.
  • Besides that, you need some very rare materials that are only dropped by very rare spawns. It took me about 28 hours of farming pokemon to get the required materials and even obtained the 500,000 money trophy during that process, which is a huge grind itself when not using the fast casino method.
  • Then there are side quests that are shamelessly recycled over and over and over .... *10 hours later*.... and over again. At first it's somewhat entertaining to find the missing emotion and deliver it to the NPC, but after 5 quests it's the same $#!t all over again, and there are about 30-40 of these quests. There's a retarded NPC that always drops his journal, which you have to find for about 8 times. The game has bounty hunts to fight stronger enemies, but most are a palette swap of story bosses or earlier bounty hunt enemies.

The only thing I liked about the game were the visuals.

I've seen your beef with Ni No Kuni before and I thought up to this point that you were always talking about the sequel and not the first one. If only there was a way to see what other people have or haven't played :hmm:

In hindsight I basically agree, especially with that constant "emotion swapping". This guy looks slightly tired, so look for a blue glowing person to suck some enthusiasm out of him to donate it to the poor fella. That was really redundant and didn't add a lot to the game, despite being the main action you do.

But... this game came in such a RPG dry time (for me at least) that I still have fond memories of it to be honest. Its like eating a basic, not very special pizza when you haven't eaten one for months. It instantly reminds you why you like pizza in the first place and you are still happy to taste it again :P I was just happy to see an overworld again, start flying at some point and so on. It was almost nostalgic in that way for me and so I can't really hate it. But now I'm kinda back in the RPG realm and that's why I have some serious gripes with Ni No Kuni 2, but let's not drag this post out for too long :P

And I am a lucksack when it comes to stuff like that, so the grind was once again pretty kind to me.

I usually have terrible luck, so I'm used to that, but this was way worse than normal.

Also, comparing NNK to pizza Margherita is an insult to the pizza :P .

Tuna? Really?? That's....basically heresy! Why would anyone do that to a poor pizza?

Agreed...it is good for salad and as a sandwich...but not pizza. I love tuna, I love pizza, but not both together.

As an aside, cabinmates in Cabin #2, I apologize for what I will not be doing the next few weeks: playing video games. I can't hold my end down right now. They fired the only other developer yesterday so I am going to be swamped the next few weeks until about the end of the month. So I won't be able to contribute much as I have to do the work of two people right now, and they aren't planning on hiring a replacement until the month is over. I'll still be able to make progress on my games, but it'll be a lot slower. So hopefully y'all will keep us afloat so that these lesser cabins can't get the jump on us.

I'll go and continue Psychonauts now ?

Well and just before I hide in the woods I really hope that there is some kind of self-awareness in this. Because it really doesn't matter whatsoever, its just a game. Take all the time you want, I don't think that anyone will be even remotely mad at you :P

I'm 100% with you there. Tuna is great. But fish on pizza is...I mean, I've never tried it, but in my head it's just the worst combination ever, taking two awesome things and ruining both xD

Peppers are great! They have their place on pizza...but again, with tuna? I just...can't imagine spicy tuna pizza being enjoyable xD

Just realized that I don't have any PS3 games in my list, so I'm going to make a change... just don't know what.

Can anybody tell me if one of these would from my PS3 backlog would fit Play a Sport or Hermit? Preferably Sport.... little desire to pick up FFX right now.

-Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations

-Alice: Madness Returns

-Claire

-Crimes & Punishments: Sherlock Holmes

-Crystal Defenders

-Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi

-Lightning Returns

-Syberia

-Syberia 2

-The Testament of Sherlock Holmes

-The Witch and the Hundred Knight

-Time and Eternity

The Sherlock Holmes games could count as Hermit as there are puzzles to solve.

I've not really heard very good things about Time and Eternity, @Edunstar84 played it recently and said it was pretty boring

Yes, it was incredibly boring. It's an easy game though, but unfortunately for you, it doesn't count as Hermit or Play a Sport. Alice: Madness Returns and Lightning Returns doesn't count as well.

Syberia 1 & 2 fit perfectly into Be a Hermit

I'm not seeing any of these games in Sports tho :S

@Edunstar84, @Mesopithecus... boring is fine. I've probably played worse haha. Maybe it would have deterred me from buying it, but I already have the game so it'll played at some point.

@Sardavanua, I was thinking about those games... but I'll hold off on changing for now.

@Toogie53, my other games are pretty set. Danganronpa 2 (in Bonus) could probably be shifted, but I think I'm going to use @donut_plz's suggestion Sherlock Holmes C&P if you think that arm wrestling is a sport in place of FFX (Wikipedia seems to think it is).

Got my first 100% in Submerged, which it appears @Toogie53 already updated.  Thank ya!
I wish I was going to miss this game more, but for how nice it was driving around in a boat, the climbing was awful.

Despite my very clear cut list of goals, I'm going to leave Fallout 4 for last, as I'm likely going to finish all the DLC's before the main story.  So I spent mroe time with Trine 3 ( up to 40%) but I'll be honest.  I know it's a super easy platinum, but I can't stand the game.  The level design, the puzzles, the controls, ugh.  It's pulling teeth getting me to play it at this point, so I think I'm going to finish another one in between and try again.

With that being said, I spent a few hours with Everybody's Gone to Rapture (which I am enjoying some what), and I think that'll be number 2 for the challenge. I got 4 trophies since yesterday, so that's up to 40% as well.  Another update probably on Sunday when I can spend time with my PS4 again.  Cabin 9 looking good!

Gratz on Submerged!

I felt the exact same way about Trine 3, it was terrible. Especially the controlls. I wish you good luck on that!

Hey thanks, good job on your two Souls plats, very impressive!

Yeah, I think Amadeus's telekinesis power might just break my spirit on that one.
