PS5 Trophy List sucks

At first I wanna make clear that I love the PS5 and in don’t want to cry that much, but holy shit, that trophy list on the PS5 sucks.

 

The new trophy card system is amazing, you can check your trophies you are working on super fast in quick menu, but the fully trophy list itself is so annoying as a „hardcore“ trophy hunter.

 

Believe it or not, but sometimes I buy games blind and just want to enjoy the game. But as a trophy hunter, I check all the trophies in the game, before I start, so I don’t miss anything. 
With the current trophy system/list, you have to click on every card to read the full text. Who ever came up with this idea, hasn’t done a good job tbh.

 

The trophy list on PS4 was just way better.

 

Maybe I’m alone with this opinion, but I couldn’t hold myself to create this topic.

That is a general problem of the UI. It's absolutely terrible. 

 

For example if you want to write a message to someone, you first need to choose between writing the f*king message or sending a completely useless quickmessage. 

 

Or if you want to watch your friendslist: PS Button -> Gamebase -> go to full Gamebase -> Friends (and then the friends are on those horrible big cards instead of an easy to check  list) 

 

On PS4 its like: PS Button -> Friends.

After a little over 2 months with the system, the UI is still just as poor and unintuitive as it was at launch. It's not just the trophy system, although it is really annoying to use, but also getting into and out of voice chats, uploading/downloading save files to the cloud - even closing the game.

 

Everything takes more steps and is more cumbersome.

 

While the system is clearly a massive improvement and the few dedicated PS5 games I've played are nice, the UI is a significant step backwards.

 

I'm not sure there is a single feature of the new UI itself that feels like an upgrade over the PS4.

I agree, the UI in its current state has good bones, but there's some excess that needs to be trimmed and streamlined a bit. I'm not going too crazy over it because I know with time it will be fleshed out and more user-friendly. I don't like that I have to have multiple prompts just to get to my trophy list, and then like mentioned, need to click through each one. Even the PS Store, on both the console and app, has little to no sorting options so I'm just searching through clusterf***s of sale items hoping to find something good. Seems a bit inefficient, which is a shame because I like the design itself. And lets not mention holding down the PS button..I literally do it everyday and like crap I cant turn it off like this anymore.

 

However, my biggest peeve right now is the lack of folders and sorting options for games. As someone who has a 5TB external for their massive library of PS4 games, this just seems like a terrible oversight especially for the fact that the console is backwards compatible, essentially guarenteeing existing Playstation 4 users access to a potentially massive library from the start. Why I cannot sort out that library seems like a big miss. The only plus is that at least the UI is much snappier, so searching for things doesnt feel like a chore. But regardless, its an odd design choice.

Another issue with the UI is how to get to the trophy list. It's quite well hidden and I would love to see a trophy icon appear when you hit the PS button. Having to click on your profile and select the trophies option is too much work.

It's an extra step, but if you compare your trophies to someone on your friends list's, then you can look at your trophies like how it is on the PS4.

As somebody who has become more disillusioned with AAA games and where the industry is going in general, I for one am not really in any rush to buy a PS5. Besides, I can't afford one.

 

Demon's Souls is the ONLY game on the PS5 that looks intriguing and really good. Marvel's Spider Man: Miles Morales is just more cliche AAA fare with the usual collectibles, okay to disposable storyline, and a tacked on New Game Plus. Other games I've seen have a PS4 counterpart. Yes, performance wise it is obviously better on the PS5. But that's the only real positive I can think of.

 

The interface is absolutely terrible. Why change what worked so well? The PS4 UI was a massive step forward from the PS3 UI which is cumbersome and often laggy. The PS5 UI is basically taking a couple more steps to do everything, wasting valuable time and frustrating the user.

 

Sony, with as much money as they have, could of constructed a far more sleek and user friendly interface that could of already reduced the steps it takes to do most of everything that is necessary. Instead, they went backwards and made a design that just serves to confuse and aggravate the person using the PS5.

I do not own a PS5 and will not for a long time as I have lots to keep me busy on PS3 and PS4. To this day, I liked the PS3 trophy list the most as the banners for each game were bigger and I liked that it is in alphabetical order.

I hate the whole party system now.  People create a party and add people just like before they don't use the already created party from the night before.  Only difference is now i have to leave about 30 parties that aren't in use every week, many of which are the same people over and over again or a combination of the same people.  Also, don't like the fact i can't see people already in a party or people can't see i'm already in one. Sure it's more private and I can see where some people prefer it but if I wanted privacy I always just hid offline.

 

  As far as the trophy cards and stuff I always used psn profiles to look at the list while I play which saves me going in and out of the trophy list at all.  But this whole big deal made about trophy tracking and  collectible videos at the touch of a button picture in picture, isn't really taking off.  Maybe in time This will get utilized but I see more companies cutting down on their involvement with trophies rather than doing more for them like including how to videos.  Look at battlefield and COD who haven't added DLC trophies in their most recent games as an example.  It's too much for some of the industry biggest earners to include dlc trophies might be an indication of where things are headed.

I'm a fan of the trophy card system when I don't have to actively use it. It's kind of nice to have a clean card for each trophy, but it's a pain when trying to look something up. I guess I'm more 50/50 on it because I tend to look my trophies up on trackers and leave my on system list for synch and forget. I'd imagine the changes were more about the intention to innovate or some such. Make the PS5 look and feel completely different than the PS4. Particularly so when the PS4 XMB was basically the PS3 XMB, but better. But, oh! Here comes PS5, with it's shiny new cards and easy social media buttons!

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the UI either. I like that it feels "new" but too many things were removed or changed for the worse. The worst thing they did though was change the trophy sound. I cannot hear trophies pop 99% of the time on PS5. Kind of pushing me back towards Xbox for multiplats because that "rare" achievement sound is music to the ears.

Hmm, this sounds very cumbersome and not very user friendly. Exactly why I don't mind waiting to purchase a PS5, in the hopes that they works these kinds of kinks out! Well that and I can't afford one right now either ? All the more reason to keep using PSNProfiles if you ask me!

I wonder if they'll fix it. Also when you go to pull up trophies you have to go to your profile, click trophies. Is there no way to double tap to access the full list from the game like on PS4?

Now that you mention it, yeah I'm not a huge fan just never thought too much about it. I like aspects of the new interface. However my biggest pet peeve is the ps store. That thing is a monstrosity and needs to be burned.

Another thing that is awful about the ps5 UI is you can never find the sale.  You literally have to back in and out of the store until it pops up on the bar.  Sometimes turn on my ps4 just to look at the sale which is really a pain in the ass considering my ps5 has the ability to completely replace my ps4.

I just tried comparing trophies which shows it the old way and it looks soooo much better I really hope they change it to that on the normal list or atleast provide option. It has all the info you need on one screen on that list and can see everything without needing to click

I don't have a PS5 yet but the Trophy UI automatically looked unappealing due to the change of the image resolutions being all wonky. 

 

Also cloud saves should be automatic without PS+ and free. Xbox having Gold lifted for free to play was a bigger issue, but their cloud saves are free. Same energy.
