Sweet Perfection - Complete 100% of the main story

 

After a long journey, I've finally reached the end. I never thought that I'd have to leave the final boss for last, instead of an optional boss, but that's because of the bestiary. I don't think I've done that in any other game, but I could be wrong.

 

Anyway, before I decided to finish the story, I wanted to tackle one last thing I was missing, which was the Den of Woe. It may be optional, but it never hurts to check it out. Especially, since you get to face both Rikku and Paine in one-on-one fights. Why do you have to fight against your friends? I won't spoil that.

 

Once I was done, it was time to move forward. The last obstacle standing in my way before the final area were the remaining aeons I hadn't fought before. Sadly, they were too easy, but at least I got the explanation of why they were sent to attack Yuna and the party. After that comes some puzzle solving, in order to reach Vegnagun. Alternatively, if you don't feel like doing so, you can always do it the second way by attempting to go through the electric gate which triggers a fight against another powerful enemy. However, since I've faced it before, I had no problem defeating it again. I did clear the first puzzle just fine, but the final one was rather confusing so I decided to take the other way and get over it. When it comes to Vegnagun itself, there's not much to say about it, even though it managed to deal enough damage in the first phase. I was, however, surprised how many phases it consisted of, but that's about it.

 

Now that I've finished the game, what did I think about the story? It was alright. It's not bad, but it's not my favorite either. I'd say the villain was the weakest part for me. Not only that, but the fact that he just happens to resemble Tidus, I don't know about that. I think I've seen this type of plot element before, but I can't remember where exactly. In the end, I'd say the plot in the prequel was better, despite some minor complaints.

 

As for whenever or not I managed to get 100% completion after the credits, I'll tell you. My final score was 98%, but I kind of saw that coming. Fortunately, it didn't take long to reach the required completion percent in NG+, as I could skip a lot of stuff. Once I reached the decision-making part, it was time to select the opposite choice. I like how different the dialogues and cutscenes are in certain areas, but I still feel bad about selecting the "Conquest" route, contrary to the "Birthright" route which was my favorite. In fact, I'd side with the Youth League any day.

 

Having now finished the main game, it's time to move on the final part of this journey, which is Last Mission. Unlike the main game, I know nothing about this one, although I've read a couple of things about it. Once I've conquered it, the platinum is finally mine.

And that's the first boss defeated. I was told it was the hardest boss in the game. Not sure if I was told wrong or not... but... I didn't really struggle with it. Obviously though... I am using a guide and I just did as my guide suggested. Maybe that's why...? Either way... looks like the whole country (Japan) will get to be explored for this game. Not necessarily a bad thing. It's always nice when you get to see new areas. ?

The most difficult trophy from a pretty difficult game, thankfully the last difficulty related one. Elite deep dives are pretty disgusting, several missions in a row on the highest difficulty setting and two primary objectives for each mission, with warnings on top, resources, health and ammo shared over all the missions. The EDDs change every week, this one looked way too nasty to try at first, but turned out doable after all, but man were there some close calls, especially in mission two when dealing with both the Dread boss and the Unknown Horror at the same time. Now only some of the severe grinding trophies are left before this platinum is mine. Rock and Stone!

I'm still not done with this game's hardest trophy, but I am finally done with its longest.

 

Upgrading a Chao specifically to win the Chao Races is extremely time-consuming and grindy. I didn't really keep track, but I think the whole process took about five hours of total Chao Garden playtime. I raised my Chao's Stamina to around Level 16 or so, and its Fly, Run, Swim and Power stats to Level 99 each. This allowed the Chao to complete all five Jewel Races on the first try. I probably could have gotten by just fine with lower stats, but I wanted these races to be as easy as humanly possible.

 

I raised my Chao's stats using animals procured from Emerald Coast and Red Mountain to get the stat upgrades I need, in tandem with the infinite animal use trick to speed the process along significantly. It's a good thing that your Chao doesn't need much Stamina to win these, because you can only raise that stat using fruits, so reaching Level 99 in Stamina would be agonizingly slow. I am very glad to have this one, because it was a massive grind and I'm relieved it's finally over.

 

The Chao's name was Shadow, in case you were wondering.
